• I recorded this podcast using the voice recorder app on my iPhone. I was also running the Runkeeper app, and I was concerned that if Runkeeper threw up an alert, it might kill the recorder app.
• I’m no longer using the Couch To 5k app. I’ve just gone back to taking walks.
• This month is turning out to be super busy already. Jen’s picked up some more writing work but it hasn’t entirely made up for the reduction in work she experienced earlier this year.
• Jen now knows about the crowd funding campaign I’ve started to help pay for her birthday celebration. (As of the time of recording, we had received one donation from Tiggr. We have since received another one from Nathan.) This happened because we had a somewhat serious conversation earlier this week about the state (and future) of our finances. We’ve started a new channel here at No Market called Destroying Debt and we’ll be blogging there about our experiences in trying to improve our finances. (Here’s the first post in the series, which I mentioned during the recording.)
• I talked a lot about our finances and gave some details about the debt we’re trying to pay off.
• I then talked about how the death of Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman made me really depressed. And yeah, I finished the podcast off with “Seasons In The Abyss:”

• I think we need an air conditioner in our studio room. In honor of Earth Day.
• We talked some more about the phenomena of crowd funding. The Heat Kills campaign I mentioned on the last show was funded! In the wake of the bombing at the Boston Marathon, a bunch of related crowd funding campaigns have popped up. (Including for a boat.)
• If I ever have the money to buy a boat, I won’t settle for anything less than a mega yacht. And if I had that kinda money, I’d just secretly crowd fund things all day long.
• Somewhat randomly, I was made aware of a Facebook “event” for a local lost cockatiel. Jen and I spent about an hour on Friday morning searching for the missing bird. I recently clipped one of our cockatiel’s wings for his own health and safety.
• I made a week’s worth of breakfast burritos!
• I have trouble with tying shoelaces and untying knots. This is why I’d never make it on the TV show “Survivor.”
• We played the song “Wreckage” by Silver Lake Chorus. Find this song in our ongoing Spotify playlist.

• Erk has been on a trip across America and he stopped at our studio here in San Luis Obispo before returning to Australia. Erk was also here in 2009 but during that trip, he stopped here first.

• After Erk arrived here in SLO, we had our first (of several during Erk’s visit) meals at Denny’s. Later, I went with Erk to his hotel so Erk could check in. LOLZ ensued.

I recorded nmr0022 earlier today, and about halfway thru the recording, an unusual static snuck its way into the right channel. It’s not the type of audio artifact that can easily be removed thru software (at least, not any software that I have). I can’t release this audio in good conscience, as I believe it’s not really listenable.

Perhaps it’ll surface someday on a super exclusive bonus something or other (FOR THE FANS).

If time permits, we’ll get another show out before next weekend. I wouldn’t count on that, tho.

• The weather was beautiful today here in California, with a nice breeze blowing in off of the Pacific Ocean. Those winds will carry all of that pure, fresh ocean air over the rest of the continent, where it’ll eventually be fouled up by the rest of the country’s carbon emissions. Also, jetpack raptors with freeze rays.
• I gave an update on my NaPodPoMo progress. (I’ve been keeping track.)
• I talked about how there probably won’t be any more mixtape episodes for awhile.
• I talked about an idea I have for a new music podcast. I got a tweet earlier today from Erk. He thinks I should do my own music podcast.
• I would like to do more live shows and I’d really like to add some cameras to the mix.

• Jen got her writing work done early for today because she was anticipating being heavily stoned on allergy medication later in the day.
• There are a lot of bicyclists on California streets. Some of them want to die. Also, I never saw a road with a bike lane on it until I came to California. Also, LEGO’s.
• During the last podcast I recorded, I mentioned that it must be hard to find singer/songwriter Laura Marie on Google. I was proven wrong.
• I’ve been using a USB gamepad with my iMac, thanks to a cool application called ControllerMate that makes it all work properly.
• Random commentary on cars and trucks on the road. (Lots of camper-trailers on the road.)
• I went into downtown San Luis Obispo on Black Friday. Not surprisingly, it was madness, wall-to-wall people. (Also, lunch at Louisa’s Place.)
• Jen recounted the horrors of working retail on Black Friday.
• We talked about how Walgreens stores are always located on corners, and yet they’re always difficult to get in and out of.
• On our drive home, Jen was looking kinda pale due to allergy overload.

• We drove Highway 101, California’s (in)famous statewide freeway. We’re originally from Illinois where tollways are much more common. I mentioned a story I had recently heard about a new tollway being constructed in the Los Angeles area.
• We were headed to Atascadero, CA to check out a washer and dryer that some friends are willing to give to us. (We passed a wildlife awareness road sign that Jen calls “bear chasing deer” because the sign includes a leaping deer on top and a family of bears below.)
• We exited the freeway at the tiny town of Santa Margarita, CA. There are cows! And horses.
• Jen punched my iPhone! She hates Apple.
• After missing the target initially, we eventually reached our destination.
• A helpful contractor who was working at our friends’ home gave us some information about the appliances. What he told us made us decide to not test them out after all.
• Then, we drove home and Jen commented on everyone else’s driving.

• Matt and I first met about 15 years ago at an open mic in Crystal Lake, IL. We played in the first version of Matt’s ongoing musical project, Somnistatic, as a real-life band but due to the usual life circumstances, the band members had to go their separate ways.
• Matt talked about what he did musically after the original version of the band broke up, and then we discussed how we started working together again thru the Internet.
• I asked Matt to explain how he came up with the same “Somnistatic,” which lead to a discussion of different band names we had before settling on this one.
• Matt has been playing some live shows around the Chicago area. Some as a solo act, and some as a band. You can see a lot of videos of Matt’s performances on the Somnistatic YouTube page.
• Matt recently played at Madame Zuxu’s, a teahouse owned by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins. Matt is a huge fan of the Pumpkins and he got to interact a little with Billy during his time at Zuzu’s. Including this video of Billy playing a Beatles song on piano:

• I was pleasantly surprised to find that a local restaurant refunded my credit card charge after an online order mixup. I figured I was gonna have to go over there and get it straightened out.
• It was 75 degrees and sunny today. This is one of the reasons I moved from Illinois to California. I still get homesick sometimes, tho. (Here’s the Tumblr blog I mentioned during the podcast.)
• I encountered some interesting modes of transportation. One of them was an ATV type of thing. The other was a powered wheelchair. Oh, and then there was a car on the sidewalk?
• I shared my thoughts about this episode of Flyswatter Show where Laura vented some of her frustrations about the state of podcasting.

• Nathan bought an iPhone 5 right after the 5 was released. I invited him on the show to get his opinions on it as I’m considering upgrading to the 5 myself.

• I recorded this show while Jen was still sleeping so it’s just me. I talked a little about my job and how I had to work earlier in the day. I don’t always work weekends, and my employer is nice about pushing the fact. Unlike this:
  
• I have ideas. Like starting a web hosting company for creatives and/or other small operations.
• I had lunch today at Cool Cat Cafe. A nice waitress gave me part of a chocolate milkshake that I didn’t order. The milkshake isn’t really good for my diet but it was good to drink.
• I added Google Analytics to the No Market website. I don’t really know what to make of the statistical information so far. Regardless, this article I posted about a drunk city council candidate has had the most page views.
• I played the song “Pay Off” by O’Spada:

• As a followup to the article I mentioned earlier, that same drunk guy has been arrested. Also, a guy got stabbed to death for being in a laundromat at the wrong time.
• I’ve spent a lot of time trying to reposition my iMac to make it easier for me to see. I haven’t found a setting yet that I’m happy with.
• We haven’t had daily No Market Radios for NaPodPoMo but I still have had enough total ‘casts on my own to stay in the game.

• Yesterday was the big presidential election day. We put a self-imposed media blackout on ourselves in order to avoid the insanity of constant election coverage.
• We went back to the grocery store we visited on Sunday because we had to make an exchange. Also, Jen is trying to sabotage my diet.
• From there, we went and had a meal at McLintocks (pictured above). We sat in the back of the restaurant so we could avoid all of the TV’s and all of the boisterous regulars who hang out at the bar.
• A few hours later, I saw the news on Twitter that Barack Obama had won the election. We talked about that. A lot.
• We played the song “My Pre-Existing Conditions” by The Public Good. You can listen to this song thru our ongoing No Market Radio Spotify playlist.
• We wrapped up this show in the usual way. I also quoted a bit of writing by Thomas Jefferson.

• We experienced record-high temperatures today in San Luis Obispo. I had to get out of here because it was too warm inside the house.
• I went to a “new” Subway for lunch today. Not just to escape the heat, but also to (apparently) have an exciting chopped salad!
• I haven’t been able to update the Odd News California sub channel since we started the podcast. So I thought we should cover a few of the stories that had been waiting in queue for the Odd News California blog. First, a shark fell from the sky onto a golf course and some resourceful people were able to rescue it and take it back to sea. Jen told a story about a shark she used to have in an aquarium that made a similar death-defying recovery.
• In the nearby town of Templeton, someone hung a chair from a tree. Some say this is a racial statement aimed at the president. Others say it’s just an unusual prank.
• A friend of ours sent us this blog entry about Halloween costumes. The writer of the blog used a photo of Jen as an example of a “non-slutty witch.”
• Our song of the day is “America” by Imagine Dragons:

• I started things off by explaining the idea behind today’s show. Then, I gave my thoughts on this “2012 Election Literary Smackdown” article as well as the life of Ayn Rand and Objectivism.
• I commented on a scam-tastic ad from the local Craigslist job board. ‘Cause, you know, that’s where they’d be making casting calls for the next Captain America movie.
• I talked about editing the Shattered Soulstone podcast, and what a “multi-ender” is.
• Jen and I did some grocery shopping. But first, we had lunch at one of our local Chipotle restaurants. We talked about furniture left on the sidewalk, as well as a TV that was recently left outside and then destroyed (see image above). It tends to be very loud inside of Chipotles. Here’s proof in the form of a decibel measurement I took using an iPhone app that does that:
  
  Then, we ate burrito bowls and they were good.
• After Chipotle, we drove to Fresh & Easy. During the drive, we talked about the upcoming presidential election and bumper stickers. I believe in maximum efficiency. AKA “max effish.” We wondered about whatever happened to Second Life and if anyone still uses it.
• We then drove from Fresh & Easy to Vons and talked about our shopping experiences at both stores.
• While driving home, we discussed our pleasant surprise at finding Zevia soda at Vons, and how “natural” foods are becoming trendy.
• We wrapped up the podcast after we returned home. Jen enjoyed a peppermint mocha frappuccino. There’s no song of the day for today’s show. But all of the music that was played during the show is by Tycho. You can listen to all of these songs thru the ongoing No Market Radio Spotify playlist.

• I think I’m coming down with a cold. This happens every November.
• Song four is by Ahmond and it’s kinda weird. It’s called “The Extraordinary Life Of Jimmie Dandelion” (I incorrectly called it “The Dangerous Life Of Jimmie Dandelion” during the show) and I’d like to know what the hell this song is about. • We started off talking about my uncanny ability to do a high-pitch falsetto, despite my natural baritone voice.
• The current election season is almost over. We’re all happy about that. We covered why we vote using absentee ballots. And how, in order to get thru the last few hectic election days, Jen’s been taking a special herbal supplement so she won’t end up punching her computer screen.
• I, as President Harry S. Truman, recommended dropping A-bombs on our noisy neighbors. Jen recommended dropping a cone of silence around their yard. In reality, they’ve been much quieter lately. We theorized as to why that is.
• I’ve been on a weird diet for the last month. I’ve lost some weight but I’ve also gained some back. I talked about my history of weight issues and we both talked about our experiences with different diets. Also, why we no longer go to Panda Express and why Jen doesn’t like gluten-free fad diets. In related news, she did eat a gluten-free donut last night that she does like.
• Before we finished the show, we played a topical song by Lenelle Moise.

• It’s November, and that means NaPodPoMo; 30 podcasts in 30 days. I’m officially doing NaPodPoMo this year but Jen isn’t. This doesn’t automatically mean that there’ll be 30 No Market Radio’s this month, but it’s possible.
• We’re still in the process of moving the old Inside My Head podcast site over to the new No Market site. Some of the holdup is because Jen likes to print her websites out onto paper. I have doubts about the sustainability of this practice.
• Yesterday was Halloween. In accordance, we went on a walking tour of a local cemetery. We learned a lot about San Luis Obispo history, as well as some of the people who helped to shape it. Also, Jen found some ghosts.
• After the cemetery tour, we went home and watched some Halloween-type movies. The first was Land Of The Dead. The second one was From Dusk Till Dawn. We reviewed both films.
• Capping off our Halloween recap, we talked about an apartment fire that happened across the street from where we live.
