To correct a few bad notes isnt all that bad. However Like Cee said it can become a complete crutch, and like Melly said, "I turn the crap off".....

The only "REAL" way to get over your problem is to keep doing it. Surely you can find a vocal coach in your area that would be willing to help. The more you sing the better you get. Dont be a lightweight in your singing, there are some singers here that sing very quietly and go off pitch, Belt that stuff out. I'd much rather you did that then get caught up in autotune.

Wishing you all the best

Auto is great, the funny thing is that T-Pain is actually a good singer, I always gave him s h i t because I didn't know he could actually sing. Then I did some more research and saw so very good acapella vids of his songs live. I guess he uses it like composing for vocals, some of his arrangements are very complex and you can tell he put alot of thought into his melodies and tunes. so yea, I think it has its place
It's an obviously overused feature. As a producer, I would only use it for effect and not tuning to correct a vocal. It has it's place alongside a Talkbox or vocoder as an element to define a certain style of music or song. I prefer a good vocalist any day over autoune, but it can be fun to work with in a production setting if used correctly and within the proper context.
oh for the good old days when if you called yourself a vocalist.......it meant you could .....SING!......I can't count how many times I've heard so-called vocalists that have entered my studio say....'yeah I'm out of tune, but you can fix it right?".....Autotune in and of itself isn't a bad thing....I've used it discretely just to fix minor tonal shifts....but when it's used as a total crutch, or to mask lack of skills or even basic talent is where I get ticked off.....

William .. there is an autotune feature within Garageband and Logic, without by any new software.

Not really sure how effective it is though .. I doubt it will tune up vocals that are completely out of tune .. I guess you've got to be able to get close to pitch.
For mixing????

I think Cuckos Reaper is the way to go.
1) It's free
2) Supports any VST effect/plug-in you need
3) It's light-weight and doesn't hog up your system resources

My second choice would be Acid Pro 7. It's kind of a memory hog but it gets the job done with professional sounding mixes on the back end.
If the re-tuning is too fast it starts to sound too computerized (a la Britney Spears). I will say, however, there are a lot of artists like telecaster29 said that have defined their sound with products like Antares Auto-Tune and other pitch correcting software. Like Tele said, Cuckos Reaper is probably your best bet if you're not willing to pay for Antares.
reaper daw is cheap and includes an autotune feature. it is sometimes used as an effect in itself of course but if you really need it to be able to sing anywhere near in tune then you're probably better off getting one of the very fine singers here on icomps to help you out. if you're just fixing the odd howler and you have limited opportunity to re-record the line it can be useful. incidentally the top two records in the uk singles chart a couple of weeks ago, credited to famous female singers, both to my ears included liberal use of the autotune. could have been deliberate of course.
Have any of you had a chance to try out this new software from Harrison, the people that make Pro Studio mixing boards and outboard gear.

I've been thinking about getting it, but money is tight right now. They have it on sale for 79.99 but I'm not sure for how long.

If any of you have tried it out, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
