Who Is He is the first song I releashed here in 2008,a Bill Withers cover.This time with the help of listening to all the fine artist here I learned a lot about about mixing(still a hell of a lot to learn) and I like to thank a lot of you for that.The first time I did this ,I did it pretty much Like BW did it,but this time Im doing it more like I would have done it,lots of harmony parts and guitar and violins,so its a lot different and better in my opinion than the first one I did,I hope you tnink so as well.

So ... we were trawling the Luna archives and I took a shine to this song which Daniel wrote in about 1993. I recorded a quick live version of the vocal, accompanying myself on my Strat ... and when Daniel got hold of it he blended it with some live recordings of his own.

There is a certain rawness to this, but it is what it is - a composite of one-take wonders and improvised instrumental flourishes in a dreamy blend which captures the moment.

To hear this old song resurrected after so many years.... and my thanks to Rebsie for taking an interest in it. The original was a lot different in that it was sort of written as a pop song - but I like this version so much better. One thing I am enjoying about our musical partnership is that we are finding more ways to blend and use classical guitar and cello.

I deeply want to thank Bob Turner for playing bass on this tune. In my opinion he is one of the best bass players to come out of Philadelphia. I am still working on the lyrics on this tune but it is good enough to stand alone as an instrumental. I play all the instruments except for bass. The vocals will be done by someone we all know here at icomps but not for a little while.

I dreamt that I was floating down a very slow moving river in a dug out canoe kind of thing with ancient trees leaning over the water with their incredibly gnarled branches and tiny, tiny blossoms falling like snow down onto the river and me and the boat. Out of the air, the trees, the river came this incredible voice (which I realized, upon waking, was Nick's) and some intertwined angelic voices (possibly mine, on a good day). I asked Nick if he'd be willing to work on trying to reproduce that dream and he said yes. Woohoo! And this is the first result. I wrote a prose poem for him to read and then sang/whistled/made noises in reaction to listening to him read it and then he added the heartbeat-like drums. We hope you enjoy it!

This piece, believe it or not, was inspired by Naaji Barretok, Ravens, Hiphopmoses and Cudda Brown. Why? Ramona can sing and perform anything on the map and always tells how she feels. Barretok bares his soul in every song I hear him sing which is why the first song I ever wrote on this site was about his "Cigarette." When Ravens sings I have to have my headphones on and the volume turned up! How she gets that volume and clarity is so pro. Thanks for the tip Dani about the headphones because you take me on a TRIP! Cudda Brown can sing and rap and it's so much fun working with him. Hiphopmoses is just as much fun as Cudda Brown---both very talented yet so amazingly humble and FUNNNNEEEEEEEEEE! I am not a rapper but each day I become more empowered.

Thanks to all the well-wishers. I'm doing fine as long as I avoid stress and learn how to manage stressful situations. Your thoughts, meditations and prayers were DEEPLY felt. What a great family to have! You can choose your friends but LAWDY LAWDY LAWDY the FAMILY will send you over the edge if you don't learn how to be cool like I'm learning.

I had a realization as I was driving this morning... I realized I should live to fulfill my soul, and not worry about all the other things that seem to take over one's life...

and I realized too that making music IS one of those things that are fulfilling for the soul...! I made this song with a couple a loops and several layers of keyboard played by moi... when I play the music, I find making music even more fulfilling...
some day I hope to make my songs completely... but I also do love working with loops, as that's a collaboration in some ways... at least to my mind...

Fractals are a geometric pattern that are repeated at scales to produce irregular shapes and surfaces that cannot be represented by classical geometry. Fractals are used especially in computer modeling of irregular patterns and structures in nature.

Musically, the piece doesn't proceed traditionally with the development of motives. Instead the music repeats and at each repeat a new motive is added and accumulated. By the time the piece climaxes there are about 15 lines played simultaneously to create a textured, polyrhythmic sound.
