The fact that Safari refreshes the current page you are viewing each time you launch the app can sometimes become annoying because it is tedious to wait for it to load again. If you have ever wished there was a way to launch Safari and go to a blank page automatically to speed up the time it takes to launch the app, then you will be glad to know there is now a solution for Jailbroken iOS devices.

Introducing SafariBlankPage. The SafariBlankPage Cydia tweak simply makes it so that Safari opens with a blank page when it is not running in the background. This dramatically speeds up the rate at which the app opens as Safari no longer has to refresh the page you left off on.

In the beginning of this month a hacked carrier update for T-Mobile iPhone 5s was released that increased data speeds. The original hack was released by Joe Brown and Sky Zangas, who are the minds behind the website iTweakiOS. This isn’t to be confused with the hack that allowed you to enable LTE on T-Mobile’s network. This particular method actually was proved to increase your data speeds.

In case you didn’t have an iPhone on T-Mobile’s network the pair of hackers have released the same patch for the AT&T network. This time around, however, it isn’t just for the iPhone, but for the cellular iPad as well.

According to Brown “Just like with the T-Mobile hack, this hack does the same. Band preferences were set to limit you to a certain band rather than the band giving off the strongest signal, when available, both with LTE and HSPA+.”

He further goes on to explain “This hack enables Release 9 DC-HSPA+ on the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, 4, and mini as well as enhancing LTE data and signal. Though AT&T is limited to HSPA+ 21, the device itself becomes more open to an increased amount of bandwidth thus allowing for better throughput of data and data connection. This is very convenient for users in areas that don’t yet have LTE coverage.”

The 5th Generation iPad Will Reportedly Be 33% Lighter And Will Be Released In September

Earlier today we heard that trial production of Apple’s rumored iWatch had begun and now we are hearing the same thing about the 5th generation iPad. According to a report from Digitimes who has heard from the Taiwan supply chain, Apple’s trial production of the 5th generation 9.7-inch iPad will start soon, with volume production beginning in July. In September the fruit company will reportedly ramp up the production to 2-3 million units.

Although rumors about the production of future Apple products isn’t very exciting, the report went on to state that “the display of the new iPad, which will hit market shelves as early as September, will still be a 2,048 x 1,536 Retina display, the same as the one used in the 4th-generation model, except that the new display is built on a glass substrate of 0.2mm, thinner than the 0.25mm one for the 4th-generation device, the sources said, adding the new table will has a narrow bezel.”

This lines up with previous reports we have heard that claimed the 5th generation iPad would see a smaller bezel and Digitimes even believes that the iPad will use only one LED light bar for backlighting, compared to two LED light bars used in 4th-generation iPad. With all of these internal changes to the iPad it is expected that the next generation iPad will be 25-33% lighter than the 4th-generation one.

One thing that a lot of these new reports have in common is they point to a release date in September/October. As such if you were expecting new hardware to be unveiled at the WWDC 2013, you will probably be disappointed.

Yahoo Acquires Tumblr For $1.1 Billion And Promises Not To “Screw It Up”

In a surprising move today Yahoo has announced that they will be acquiring the micro blogging service Tumblr for $1.1 billion. In the press release this morning Yahoo has promised not to “screw it up” and has stated that Tumblr will still be operated as a separate business with David Karp remaining as CEO.

Tumblr currently has more than 300 million monthly unique visitors and 120,000 signups every day, Tumblr is one of the fastest-growing media networks in the world. The services sees 900 posts per second and 24 billion minutes spent on site each month.

If you have been paying attention to Yahoo’s recent acquisitions you will realize the company has been on a bit of a shopping spree lately. In March Yahoo purchased a mobile news startup by the name of Summly for $30 million, as well as an iOS/Android task management service called Astrid this month.

Many people are thinking that Yahoo is trying to prove that they are on par with the other tech giants such as Google and Facebook when it comes to bold acquisitions. According to Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer though, it is more to do with both companies being able to compliment each other ”On many levels, Tumblr and Yahoo! couldn’t be more different, but, at the same time, they couldn’t be more complementary. Yahoo is the Internet’s original media network. Tumblr is the Internet’s fastest-growing media frenzy. Both companies are homes for brands – established and emerging. And, fundamentally, Tumblr and Yahoo! are both all about users, design, and finding surprise and inspiration amidst the everyday.”

Yahoo plans to implement its personalization technology and search infrastructure to help its users discover creators, bloggers, and content they’ll love. In turn, Tumblr brings 50 billion blog posts (and 75 million more arriving each day) to Yahoo!’s media network and search experiences.

In the end the acquisition will likely result in more ads and other monetization strategies appearing on Tumblr, due to the fact that at the time being Tumblr isn’t very profitable.

The deal is expected to close during the second half of 2013, which is subject to customary closing conditions.

Apple’s iWatch Will Likely Have An OLED Display And Is Already Being Manufactured By Foxconn

Forget rumors about the iPhone 5S or entry-level iPhone, today we have a fresh rumor on the Apple iWatch.

According to the Japanese blog Macotakara, who has had a fairly accurate track record in the past, the Taiwanese newspaper Economic Times is reporting that Foxconn has received 1000 trial products of the iWatch from Apple.

What is even more interesting is the report goes on to state that Apple is looking into using 1.5-inch OLED panels for the iWatch. Generally the fruit company doesn’t like OLED displays and sticks to LCD IPS displays in its devices, which have proven to have better color accuracy.

The reason why OLED could make more sense for the iWatch though is because they don’t require a backlight and are often times thinner than LCDs making them a perfect fit for a smartwatch, which needs to be slim and have good battery life.

The report goes on to state that the displays are being manufactured by the organic EL panel maker RiTdisplay of Taiwan with touch sensors integrated right into the display, rather than there being a separate multitouch layer.

Considering that Apple hired an OLED expert from LG earlier this year, the report from Macotakara could make a lot of sense. The question now becomes whether or not the fruit company would actually release a smartwatch. My guess is as good as yours.

The sixth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise is about to hit international theaters this week and this is a perfect time to get pumped up by playing the movie based game on your iOS device. App developer Kabam has released the official Fast & Furious 6: The Game for iOS. The game is based on the upcoming movie and features several cut scenes, action sequences and more.

The graphics and gameplay are quite good, with the added Fast and Furious characters and cars. Your primary objective in this game is to take down the mercenary drivers. This can be done by being a part of the Fast and Furious crew, customizing your rides and winning races. There are different game modes to keep you interested, such as, Drag, Drift and Heist mode.

Fast & Furious 6: The Game takes place in the streets of London and features plenty of vehicles from the movie. Heist Mode lets you unlock new tier upgrades and win big money. Watch the official trailer for the game below:

The game is similar to CSR Racing, but has the Fast and Furious element that makes this more fun. However, the game doesn’t support iPhone 3GS, iPad 1st Gen and the iPod Touch 4th generation, which has led to a lot of disappointed Apple customers. Apart from that, it looks like Fast & Furious 6: The Game will please a lot of fans.

It’s a freemium game, which means you’ll have to shell out cash to upgrade your cars etc. Fast & Furious 6: The Game is available in the App Store for free.

A Closer Look At Google+ Hangouts For iOS

Wednesday’s Google I/O 2013 conference saw mostly software announcements – Google Music All Access (a music streaming service that will try to compete with Spotify); Game Services (Google’s response to Game Center, the gaming scoreboard developed by Apple) and Hangouts (a service that will try to stop the growing domain of chatting alternatives like WhatsApp or Skype).

This last one now has a mobile app compatible with iOS and Android, available at both the App Store and Play Store respectively – Google didn’t forget to release a desktop version through a Chrome browser extension either.

At first rumored to be named Babel (or Babble), Hangouts unifies all Google messaging platforms including Google+ and Gtalk. It lets you send photographs, start video chats, as well as send text messages to your contacts on Google. Once you launch the app, you’ll be promoted to a window where you will have to sign in with your Gmail account.

Hangouts has a pretty simple interface: white and grey with a “+” icon that enables you to start a conversation with one of your contacts, and a settings option. This may not sound like much, but the key aspect of Hangouts is that unification of services previously mentioned. You won’t have to swap apps to start or resume conversation.

On android, Hangouts replaces Gtalk, so if you like that one better I would advise you to stay away from Google’s new app. I’ve got the Galaxy S3 mini and regret installing Hangouts – I used to like Gtalk better. The problem I see with Hangouts is that it doesn’t show online contacts, Gtalk’s key aspect.

Google Updates Play Music App For Android With A New User Interface

I have to admit I love Play Music, simply because it lets me store my music library in the cloud for free – 7,000 songs and counting. I tried iTunes Match when it launched in the UK in late 2011, but having to pay £20 ($30) a year for pretty much the same Google provides for free is just ridiculous.

I’m jealous to know that U.S. users will be able to subscribe to Google Play Music All Access for less than $8 a month before the end of June (it will normally cost $10). In the UK, Spotify Premium costs $7 extra a month and doesn’t even let you add your personal cloud library, like Google does – that’s 20,000 songs, plus all you can eat “paid” streaming tracks.

Who knows when All Access will be available for the rest of the 11 countries where Google Play Music already exists. That’s Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom, according to Google’s website.

The good news is that “the search giant” didn’t forget all of us who live outside the United States. Google updated Play Music’s app for Android and changed the interface completely.

For starters, Play Music has now an orange/white background, instead of the black/purple/white design included in the previous version. The carousel effect when in landscape mode has disappeared, but artists now have a profile picture at the top of their respective discography (which is a very nice touch).

Google also included a new sidebar with tabs like Library, Playlists, Radio (for All Access users) and a shortcut to the music section at the Play Store, so you can purchase songs more easily. Overall, Play Music now looks like a store instead of a radical music player. Still, I’m quite pleased with the change although I wish Google would have kept the iPod-touch-like carousel function.

Developer Behind Tweaks Like Springtomize — Filippo Bigarella — Releases An App Into The App Store Called Balances

Filippo Bigarella has made quite the name for himself in the Jailbreaking community by developing tweaks such as Springtomize, LivelyIcons, and PasswordPilot Pro. Now he is looking to also make a name for himself in the official Apple App Store.

Bigarella has just released an application called Balances that is an extremely simple finance app with a minimalistic interface you are sure to love. Using Balances you can quickly take note of the money you owe to your friend or of the credit they owe you.

Balances was designed to replace those sticky notes and makes the task of remembering how much money you owe your friend or how much they owe you simple.

Bigarella describes how the application functions below:

You can add debts or credits using the two main buttons: once one of them has been completed, you can swipe on it to the right to mark it as such. Never mind, though: you can always put it back on your list from the “Completed” section, by just swiping it to the left.

For every credit / debt, you can specify the amount of money and the person you have the credit / debt with. Additionally, you may want to add a brief description of every balance. You can also edit those details later by keeping a balance pressed from the main list.

If Apple Was Working On An iTV Then This Is How It Would Function [VIDEO]

Apple release a TV has been a hot topic the past year or so and whether or not the fruit company has plans to revolutionize the TV is unbeknownst, but that hasn’t stopped people from creating some amazing concepts.

Today we dive into probably one of the most polished Apple TV concepts we have ever seen. It was created by an individual by the name of Sam Beckett and it showcases what might be possible if Apple did ever release an iTV of sorts. In the video an Apple TV is shown being controlled by an iPad and features such as swiping between channels, scheduling recording, interactive TV guides and Siri integration are demoed.

It really is an impressive concept video to say the least and makes you hope that Apple really is working on revolutionizing the television.

This Is How Google Beat Apple To Releasing A Music Streaming Service

If you were paying attention this week, you would have realized that Google actually beat Apple to the music streaming punch when they released a music service called All Access at the Google I/O conference 2013.

The same thing happened in 2011 when both Google and Apple were rumored to release cloud storage services and Google also beat the fruit company, announcing theirs first.

The last thing we heard about Apple’s proposed iRadio service was that it was going to be released in the Summer as long as Apple could finalize a deal with label execs. Apple was rumored to of initially been offering labels 6 cents per 100 songs streamed, which is about half as much paid by Pandora. Now, however, it was rumored that in order to start moving things along Apple has bumped up its offer to 12 cents per hundred songs streamed and also a small portion of its ad profits.

If you are wondering just how Google was able to release its music streaming service first, The Verge has the answer. They wrote an in-depth article on just how Google was able to reach a licensing deal with major record labels before the fruit company.

How was Google able to secure deals for All Access, which was unveiled at Google I/O on Wednesday, while Apple has been stymied? For starters, Google chose to offer a standard subscription music service very similar to those built by Spotify and Rdio, and that meant the terms had largely been established, according to multiple sources close to the talks. Apple, on the other hand, is pioneering a hybrid web and radio service — one that resembles Pandora but melds it with some on-demand features, the sources said. The licensing agreement had to be created from scratch.

The article also mentioned that another thing Google had going for itself was that it was willing to pay advances to some of the major copyright owners. Typically Apple has a long history of refusing to pay advances and — at least initially — didn’t offer any.

If Apple wants to unveil a music streaming service at the WWDC 2013 it certainly better get its act into gear. Right now the only major label that has signed with Apple is Universal and that means Sony, Warner and BMG are still waiting to be offered a more lucrative deal.

The LSFlatAlerts Cydia Tweak Makes Lockscreen Notifications Function Properly

For the longest time the fact that when you get a single notification on the lockscreen it comes up as a dialog box has somewhat annoyed me. I would much prefer it to be consistent and just bunch together in the flat list view like what happens when you have more than one notification.

If you also feel the same way then you will be glad to know a new tweak by the name of LSFlatAlerts has landed into Cydia. The LSFlatAlerts Cydia tweak simply makes it so that all notifications on the lockscreen appear in the flat list view. This means you will no longer have a singular notification appear in a dialog box on the lockscreen, the experience will be consistent.

Although it is only a subtle change it is sure to please a lot of people.

We announced yesterday that the 50 billionth app had been downloaded and Apple would be contacting the individual who downloaded the 50 billionth app shortly.

Sure enough today NewsChannel5 is reporting that the winner of Apple’s $10,000 App Store gift card has been chosen. Meet Brandon Ashmore, a 21 year old resident of Mentor, Ohio, who reportedly waited until Wednesday night to go on a downloading spree so that he would have a better chance of winning the contest.

He saved up about five apps to download on his iPhone 5 Wednesday night to try to win the contest and the app that ended up winning it for him was Say the Same Thing by Space Inch.

Like all the winners of these App Store gift cards, he thought it was a prank when an Apple representative called him. Corning Introduces Lotus XT: The Next Generation Of High Performance Glass

Corning Glass, Inc. has really made a name for itself recently and if you have a top of the line smartphone or tablet, chances are it is made using Corning glass.

The company has been on a role lately releasing brand new products and upgrading existing products. In June the unbelievably slim Willow Glass was unveiled and who could forget the Gorilla Glass 3 announcement at CES 2013. The company isn’t done innovating just yet though, Corning has announced today the commercial launch of Corning Lotus XT.

When Corning’s Lotus glass was initially introduced in 2011 it promised to be a thin high performance display, but because it was so advanced it wasn’t easy to build with the volumes or features that customers wanted. With the new Corning Lotus XT glass, however, clients can produce it more reliably at high temperatures, leading to more usable panels for our LCDs and OLEDs.

Engadget explains “The improved yields should not only result in larger device volumes than the original Lotus Glass could muster, but push the technological limits — Corning notes that hotter manufacturing allows for brighter, sharper and more efficient screens.”

Although the glass is available commercially starting today it will be some time before we see devices shipped with the new Lotus XT glass. Nevertheless it is an exciting announcement that will make already extraordinary displays on mobile devices even better.

BlackBerry Messenger Will Not Be Available On The iPad Initially

Earlier this week we announced that BlackBerry Messenger would be coming to both iOS and Android, but if you anticipated being able to us BBM on your iPad you will likely be disappointed.

The folks over at Trusted Reviews have figured out that when BlackBerry launches BBM for iOS it will only be for iPhone and iPod Touch owners. If you have an Android tablet, rather than an iPad, you will also be disappointed because it will only be coming to Android smartphones initially.

“At this point it is iOS and Android, and that’s iOS phones running iOS 6 and higher,” Vivek Bhardwaj, Head of the BlackBerry Software Portfolio said. He further went on to add “Smartphone is our real focus and again it comes back to what BBM is. If you look BBM and the engagement and the activity, it’s because it is mobile, because people are on the go.”

Bhardwaj does have a point, the messaging experience does change when you are on a tablet compared to a smartphone.

Not all is dark and dismal for tablet owners wanting BBM, however, Bhardwaj didn’t say BBM wouldn’t be coming for tablets, but rather it could face a bit of a wait. “When you start looking at tablets, computers and other screens, the usage model changes and behaviour changes. For us right now the absolute focus is getting BBM onto smartphones.”

On another note Bhardwaj also hinted that BBM could be rolled out across all manner of connected devices, with the automotive industry and even Smart TVs two areas currently being explored.

Get A Taste Of What iOS 7 Would Look Like On Your iPhone With The FlatIcons WinterBoard Theme

We have seen a ton of iOS 7 concepts lately, but what if you could get a taste of how many people envision iOS 7 to be like right now on your iPhone or iPod Touch?

Well, the good news is you can! Obviously no one knows how far Jony Ive will take iOS 7 in terms of reducing skeuomorphism and making the operating system, as a whole, more flat, but this new theme I recently discovered called FlatIcons gives you a good idea of how it might look.

FlatIcons is a very well done theme that is on par with well-known themes such as Ayecon. There is auto-app skinning, 750 hand-rendered icons, Retina support and much more. FlatIcons will dramatically alter the appearance of your iPhone or iPod Touch, reducing skeuomorphic elements and making the entire operating system more flat.

There is a skinned Phone dialler, Auxo theme, lockscreen theme and pre-made wallpapers that can be download from the FlatIcons official website. Unfortunately besides the phone dialler there are no other app skins, such as for the Calculator app and Music app, but hopefully this will come in a future update.

What is kind of neat is that there is a secondary theme that can make your app icons square instead of round, which gives it an almost Windows 8 like appearance. If you want the keyboard to match the FlatIcons theme then you can even download the free Color Keyboard theme called FlatIcons ColorKeyboard.

I usually don’t keep themes installed very long, but I am going to make an exception for FlatIcons. If you are interested in the WinterBoard theme you can find it in the ZodTTD & MacCiti repo for only $0.99. It really is a steal of a deal.

iTunes 11.0.3 Released With A New MiniPlayer And Much More [Download Now]

iTunes has been updated today to version 11.0.3 to include quite a few new features that are worth talking about. The first feature is a brand new MiniPlayer that beautifully shows off your album artwork, along with music controls and other functions you would expect to see in MiniPlayer.

I have briefly had a chance to play around with it and it is a wonderful addition to iTunes that you will be sure to enjoy. It actually reminds me of the MiniPlayer Cydia tweak that we previously covered here on iJailbreak that adds a similar looking MiniPlayer to iOS.

Among other things you will find an improved song view allowing you to enjoy album artwork while in the Songs view along with proper multi-disc album support. Then there is of course your stereotypical performance and stability improvements.

Update #1: iTunes v11.0.3 is indeed Jailbreak safe. I have been able to sync both my Jailbroken iPhone 5 and 3rd generation iPad without any problems.

Upcoming Semi-Restore Tool Will Allow You To Restore To Your Current Firmware Version

Right now, depending on your iOS device, it is not possible to re-restore your device back to the firmware version it is running as Apple forces you to update to the latest version. If you are not Jailbroken then this isn’t a bad thing, but because Apple patched the Evasi0n exploit in iOS 6.1.3, this is something Jailbreakers obviously want to avoid like the plague.

A new application is currently being developed though called Semi-Restore that will allow you to do a clean semi-restore to the firmware version you are currently running. This means if you want to restore your iPhone 5 back to iOS 6.1.2 you could do a semi-restore (it cannot be a full restore as this would force an update) and essentially run a clean version of iOS 6.1.2 again.

If your device is running slow then doing a semi-restore back to the current firmware version it is running could be what it needs. Best of all you don’t even have to have saved SHSH blobs or APTickets.

All the Semi-Restore requires is:

5-10 minutes of your time!
A computer running Windows or Mac OS X
OpenSSH and APT 0.7 Strict (NOT THE LIB) installed on your device
An SSH client on your computer (USB version coming soon)

It is important to keep in mind that this will not downgrade your device, but as mentioned previously, semi-restore it back to the firmware version it is currently running for a clean slate.

At the time of writing this article Semi-Restore is about 60% complete and when it is finished it will be available for both Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. You can learn more about the tool by visiting its official website.

Yet Another iOS 7 Concept That Depicts A Google Now Like Lockscreen Experience [VIDEO]

Another day and another concept.

The last concept we shared with you was by none other than Martin Hajek. He had created a new budget iPhone rendering and integrated a user interface concept by Dámaso Benítez to show us what a handset would look like running iOS 7.

It was well done to say the least.

Now another 3D artist by the name of Jürgen Ulbrich has shared a concept of what he thinks the iPhone 5S would look like running iOS 7. All we are shown in this particular concept is the lockscreen on the iPhone 5S, but Ulbrich threw in some things we haven’t seen before. Check out the video for yourself below:

I am really liking how in the concept the iPhone 5S is shown pulling together all of the users personal data on aggregating it on the lockscreen in a Google Now like fashion. What do you think of this particular concept? Let us know in the comments section below.
