iPad 2 Announced

Apple has released the next generation of the iPad and have named it iPad 2.

The iPad 2 has the same size 9.7″ screen as it’s predecessor but now sports both a front facing camera as well as a rear facing camera that will also record 720p HD video which also means that Facetime is now available for the iPad 2.

A new dual-core A5 processor yields significant performance gains of approximately 2x faster and 9x the graphics performance. Video output to 1080p is now available as an option as well.

The iPad 2 is about 1/3rd slimmer and 15% lighter than the original iPad. The construction lends to a very rigid, sturdy, and comfortable to hold. Both black and white color models will be available.

Even with all of the performance gains and slimmer housing, the iPad 2 will provide 10 hours of battery life.

A new magnetic cover has been designed to semi-fold and roll up and act as stand (similar to how the original iPad cover converts to a stand).The iPad 2 detects when the cover is open and instantly wakes from sleep. It also detects when the cover is placed on the display and instantly puts it to sleep. There are 10 color choices to choose from.

The pricing has been posted to the Apple.com website and will be shipping out on March 11, 2011.

iPad 2 Spotted

Business Insider has noted that someone got caught sporting the next iPad at the News Corp./Apple press conference. The eyewitness cited a front-facing camera at the top edge of the glass screen. Very exciting and is rumored to be announced within the next month.

At last, a Verizon iPhone

On February 25, 2007, the first advertisement announcing the iPhone aired during the 79th Academy Awards on ABC.

Nearly 4 years later, at the Verizon press conference , Tim Cook, COO of Apple stated that they are pleased to provide the iPhone to Verizon’s 93 millions customers. The iPhone 4 will be available on the CDMA network, not LTE. Talks apparently started back in 2008 to bring the iPhone to Verizon.

According to Verizon’s website the Verizon iPhone 4 will be available on February 3, 2011 for existing Verizon customers online, and February 10, 2011 for everyone and priced at $199.99 for the 16GB model.

The Verizon iPhone 4 will be able to connect 5 Wi-Fi devices to the phone, which is unlike the AT&T model. Additionally, there is an antenna design change, which is intended to fix the infamous “death grip” drop call issues.

The rumors are flying all over the news. Verizon may soon have the Apple iPhone 4 available for sale, with some reporting Verizon to make the announcement on tomorrow!

BGR.com estimates the Verizon iPhone 4 to be available between February 3rd through February 6th.

AT&T has been offering HUGE incentives to lock consumers into a 2 year contract with their recent $49 iPhone 3GS price for upgrade-eligible AT&T customers.

So… Verizon iPhone 4 or stay with AT&T and wait for iPhone 5?

Apple expected to hold event by Valentine’s Day to announce Verizon iPhone

According to appleinsider.com Apple is expected to hold an event by Valentine’s Day to announce a Verizon iPhone.

It makes sense to wait until February. AT&T has been making a last ditch stand for sales. iPhones have been selling for the holidays at RadioShack and at Target and given the 30 day return policy, AT&T would have been smart to request/require Apple to wait until after 30 days after their sales to announce a Verizon iPhone in the case that some would return their AT&T phone for a Verizon iPhone. I know I would!

I am very excited to hear about the Verizon iPhone. Regardless to whether or not the Verizon iPhone will support simultaneous voice and data I will more than likely get a Verizon iPhone. I still use an iPhone 3G and it is getting quite painful to use. Its been about a year since I have been due for my 2 year upgrade but I was banking on the Verizon based iPhone.

Would you switch to a Verizon iPhone if you were me?

iPad 2 to add USB port?

Apple Insider has reported that “a well-connected industry insider has relayed that Apple’s second generation iPad will include a built-in USB port when it launches in 2011.”

A big question that I have is whether or not the USB port will be limited to the importing of photos (as in the current iPad adapter) or if it will serve as a fully functional USB port.

Skyfire Browser for iPad

The Skyfire browser was a pretty big success for the iPhone. It “sold-out” after just 5 hours of availability, in fact. According to Skyfire, the large demand for the iPhone app overloaded the company’s servers.

I was able to download and try it. The apps primary function takes websites that embed Flash video and automatically transacode that video into HTML5 so it’s viewable on iOS devices.

But is this really necessary? Most of the big sites like YouTube, CNET, Vimeo, The Onion, Daily Motion, etc. have already moved to HTML5.

The rumors are everywhere. New iPad for 2011. This time slimmer, lighter, a better resolution display, and front and rear mounted cameras.

More rumors state that Jobs will be announcing in January and will be delivering to stores in April. I can’t wait!

Apple Black Friday Teaser

Everyone knows that one of the biggest shopping days of the year is Black Friday and Apple has posted a teaser of the special shopping day.

After the Tech Talk training from November, many of you walked away asking yourself, “Am I a PC or am I Mac?”

For many of your I had made a recommendation that you go to the Apple store and take a look for yourself as to the fit and finish and overall quality that the Macs had to offer. Additionally, for those of your who wan/needed to run Windows for those pesky situations where you are required to run Microsoft Internet Explorer to render a specific website properly you can always run VMWare. However, please remember that you will need someone technically capable to install Windows and you will need to now maintain both your Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems, which can be quite time consuming.

If any of you are out there contemplating one of the new Apple MacBook, MacBook Pros, or the brand new MacBook Air, keep in mind that some discounts might be coming your way soon!
