This stamp set was the first to catch my eye when I got my new catalog.

If I'm being honest, it was the sunflower that first caught my attention, I love them; but you know I've always been a sentiment fan.

Having been a cancer survivor twice over, and having seen many friends and family go through it, I was glad to see a new set to send some love and cheer -- not just to support others, but also to thank friends, family, and health care professionals that have held us up along the way.

Given that we're back here again, I expect I'll be needing a bunch of those.

I really like the "It's OK to not be OK" sentiment, I don't think we give ourselves permission to be human often enough. I know I'll use it a lot. I was sad to see that the set has already hit the retiring list. It is one that I thought would stick around for a while.

It will still get plenty of ink-time in my craft room both on its own and mix and matching it with retired sets I already have.

Thinking outside of the box a little bit, the ribbon could be stamped in virtually any colour to create a card to support any number of causes or organizations. There are many battles being fought each and every day - we could all use messages of love and support.

Paper Pumpkin Kit Sample

Hey there friends. It has been a while. Too long, and I'm sorry. I will try to do better.

It's hard to believe it but 2026 has finally arrived. Our family decided that 2025 was a dud when we were just a few months in. It certainly didn't give us many reasons to celebrate. Some might describe it as a bad sitcom with no off switch. We'd been saying for a while that we could really use a good slow down, but I've since realized that perhaps we need to be much more careful about what wish for. The Universe tends to deliver things in too literal a sense sometimes. I certainly would not have signed off on this plan as it stands.

I'm not one to spend a lot of time sitting in any one spot doing anything, but I got knocked back into the medzone earlier this year and I've been living in a state of forced statis. With so much taken from my control, I've spent a lot of time brainstorming how I could improve my situation, how I can push the envelope to take back a little more at a time. One recurring theme has been crafting. In the months leading up to Covid I'd added Chalk Couture and Handmarks to my list of hobbies. Let's just say that I have a lot of catching up to do.

It has been said that the simple act of creating is fuel for the soul. I know that it sure fires me up! I've always been a big fan of letting creativity shine - two of my favourite things have always been a good brainstorming session, and a creative get-together with friends.

Over the last while I've taken the opportunity to attend a few demo-only virtual events, and have taken time to reorganize and prioritize some of the key crafting supplies so that I can have a mini crafting experience outside of my craftroom. It's not perfect, but at least it is a start. I cannot get to the craftroom, and (as my hubby says) so the craft room must come to Tammy. Yes, I know - he's a keeper.

I rediscovered Paper Pumpkin this past year. Well discovered isn't quite accurate. In the hustle, I've acquired a healthy collection of kits that have become my UFO/PHDs. I had the brainfart while in hospital recently to ask my hubby to bring a few boxes in to me when he came up to visit. Oh the looks I got after midnight sitting in my dimly lit room, listening to music, and making cards til the wee hours of the morning. I told my grandson to pick whichever boxes he wanted. I don't know where he got it from but one of the boxes was from 2021! I didn't think I had any that were that vintage. It sure felt good to get inky again. It has been too long. I've shared a few photos here, but check my VIP group, and I'll share the rest there this week.

Up until recently, I don't think that I truly appreciated the convenience that is Paper Pumpkin. I'd always gotten the kit, and created leaving the enclosed stampin' spot intact. I figured that I already had the full ink pad so using the spot really didn't make sense. I made a mental note instead to save them for door prizes or something. The bonus of bringing the kit to hospital was that everything is included. If you've got a pair of scissors, and a stamp block you're good to go. I've seen a lot of posts lately about ladies repurposing the box that the kits come in. I haven't done that yet, but they do make a great spot to store the cards you've made if you don't have too many. I've seen them transformed in a variety of ways, so if you don't want them yourself, you might consider offering them on your local Freecycle/BuyNothing group. It saves landfill, and costs you nothing.

I've included a few photos from one of the kits that I got done recently. Watch for more in the days to come. I'm going to work on posting and blogging more regularly. The new catalog starts very soon and I cannot wait to share it with you!

Stampin' Up! Has announced 2 new join specials for the month of October. You won't want to miss this opportunity!

While the title "Independent Demonstrator" can be daunting and create fear and misgivings. It need not be so big and scary - I prefer to welcome fellow crafters to my Stampin' Up! family.

The term "demonstrator" is also a little misleading because it implies that you will be demonstrating (presumably) to others, but this is not at all a requirement. In fact, many of my long-time customers have purchased the kit at one time or another. It truly is the best deal in the catalog - hands down - and when a deal like this occurs, even more so. Who are we to judge you if you want to get your kit and keep it all to yourself? You won't find any judgement here!

Yes, of course - many independent demonstrators hold in-person or virtual classes and workshops where they demonstrate card making and scrapbooking techniques to others, but as many -- if not more have purchased the kit in order to get a deep discount on the products; either for themselves, or to share with family and friends. Some may hold private parties, and others keep the great thing they've found all to themselves. The choice is yours!!

Today's the Day - New Catalog Launch - New Kit Special - Wowzers!

It's a Beautiful day in the neighborhood.. a beautiful day in the ... today is the day! I get to share the shiny new catalog with you! We also kick off a brand new kit special today. Read on..

The first thing I noticed was the texture of the cover - it's different, nothing drastic, but it did make me take pause for a moment to notice it.

As a demonstrator we get an advance copy of the catalog digitally, and our courtesy copy usually arrives before it launches to the public. I don't know about you, but there's something special about being able to hold the physical book in your hand. I like to mark the products that are on my wish list and mark them once I check them off my list. For me, it means that when I'm putting in an order I can quickly look at the book and at the list I've already cultivated and put together my order without having to put a lot of thought into it. Mind you, I'll be honest, it doesn't always work. Sometimes someone will post a card sample, and suddenly a stamp set you passed over moved to the top of the wish list. Let's Get the Party Started - What do I need to get started?

I am often asked by new crafters what they NEED to buy to get started. The answer really depends.. I have always prided myself on helping my customers meet their crafting goals, within their budgets. Not everybody is able to get everything they want up front - and I totally get that. Life is expensive enough, and our hobbies don't always get the time and attention that we'd love to shower them with.

Of course, the avid crafter in me wants to giggle, and rub my hands together and tell you all about the fabulous products that we carry, and how they are all designed to colour coordinate, and make your experience as easy as possible.

I would have no trouble showing you products and telling you about all of the wonderful things that you could create with them, and up-sell you on the wonders of our products without difficulty -- but let me share a little secret with you.. You don't have to do it all on day ONE.

When I was first introduced to Stampin' Up! I had already been scrapbooking for quite a while. I had amassed a large collection of tools and supplies from a variety of sources and my family had taken to buying me pound of paper packs, and multi-packs of Provocraft paper DSP in multiples so I'd have lots to work with. I already had a paper trimmer, some dies and such. I was very cautious about diving right in and buying a pile more, and wanted to be smart about it.

Looking at my craftroom today, you'd wonder where that girl went, but as I said.. not on the first day. LOL

My very first purchase was quite minimal. I had purchased a black stamp pad, a stamp set, and a spray bottle of stamp cleaner. At my demo's suggestion, I would later order a bone folder.

For the first while, I would stamp images and colour with markers, or pencil crayons. I used a lot of buttons for decorations, or as balloons and would draw in the strings. When I look at them now, I cringe a little but I'd been so proud of them back then. I still have one of the very first cards I ever made up in my craft room. I love showing newbies that we all started somewhere, and if *I* can do it, surely they can too.

I still colour stamped images fairly regularly, and sometimes my grandkids will join in. The kids love to use (what they call) Grandma's "good markers," but they have plenty of supplies of their own too.

When I was going through treatments, I'd cut card fronts on white card stock, and bring them with my water colour pencils, markers, and sometimes pencil crayons so that I could colour while I killed time during my treatment. There really is something calming about colouring. When I'd get home, I could just add the card front to a backing, add some embellishments and I'd have many cards done in a flash.

I picked up a small carry case that was manageable and often picked a colour family, or pencil crayons to take with me because I worried that if I set it down someone might feel the need to relieve me of my goodies. Thankfully that never happened.

It was also a great way to use up some of my retired card-stock, and paper and I have donated many cards to our local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion to be used by their Sick and Visiting chair. They were always well received.

When I started, we didn't have all of the wonderful all-inclusive kits that we do now - and I would strongly suggest that you start there as a beginner. If you decide that the hobby is not for you, you can gift the cards and move on without any kind of remorse. Whereas if you've dropped a boatload on supplies and decide you don't like it - well I suppose you could post them online or donate them to a worthy cause - but I'd rather see you not be filled with regret. This is supposed to be a GOOD thing.

The very first thing I would recommend is that you decided what you want to make. Are you a scrapbooker? Do you want to make cards? Do you want to make 3-D boxes, and gift holders? You may want to do all of those things, but what you need to get started may vary somewhat.

For all options - you'll want to ensure that you have a pair of good scissors. I love our paper snips and wouldn't part with them - but you can start with any good pair of scissors. I would suggest that you test them on a scrap piece of paper before you ruin your coveted paper though -- not all scissors were created equal. At some point you will want to invest in a paper trimmer, but that can come later.

Next would be adhesive. We offer several options, and I'll happily pull them all out for you to play-test while you're here. In a pinch, a simple kids' glue stick or white glue will do the job -- for now. You aren't going to enjoy that as much for finer projects, but it will certainly get you started. I like the fine tip on our multipurpose glue - it helps keep the mess down.

I would suggest an ink pad - I suggest something neutral like black or navy to start, and I recommend a bone folder. It will help you with creating crisp fold lines in your projects. In a pinch you can use a special technique to use a marker to colour on the stamp, and stamp to your project - and buying a pack of markers would get you more colours at once than a single ink pad.

In a pinch you could go old school and use your kids' Crayola markers though that won't give you the benefits of coordinating products, it will get you started. That's the goal, right?

Though I have what my hubby likes to call a crafting warehouse, I will still pull out pencil crayons on occasion to colour in images. The plus side of colouring (whether with markers, blends, watercolour etc) is that you always get a different card - it's impossible to make the exact same card twice when you're creating by hand. I love it!

You may want to pick up a stamp set, or you can look at card stock and Designer Series Paper - purchase a colour you love, or a colour family that will give you more colours to work with. You will no doubt want some whisper white card stock as well. You might decide that you want to use our DSP, and not stamp at all - that's the beauty of paper crafting - you're in the driver's seat - you make what you would like.

If you're attending classes, you'll get to play with some of that during classes and get a chance to get more familiar with what you like in person. Our catalog photos don't always do them justice.

As you get going, you'll find punches, embossing folders, dies, thinlets, and a variety of embellishments. We joke that for a while every time you look at the catalog, you will see something that you hadn't seen before. The struggle is real. LOL

As we get back into the swing of things, I'm looking forward to doing some Card stock and paper samplers, ribbon shares, etc. That way you can sample a little bit of everything, and buy more of what you love best.

Oh my goodness I feel like this corner of my world has been way too neglected for too long. I promise, I'm working on it!

New Clubs Coming your way - Won't you join us?

Is your wish list bigger than your budget? Don't want to host an event - Join the club! 

As we head into December and January, my clubs are starting up again.  It seems like almost forever since we were all able to get together and create.  We're long overdue.  

My regular club has always been more of an "in person" adventure with a few virtual members here and there. Thanks to Covid-19 everything has shifted to a more distanced variety. 

The club can be done in a variety of ways depending on the group that is participating.  Each hinges on the premise of a qualifying party being $200 before receiving hostess benefits. Some wanted a make and take project to inspire them each month, and others only wanted the products. 

My most popular options are usually a commitment of 6 months, spending $35 each month but your group of 4 patrons could easily spend $50 for 4 months or $20 for 10 months and achieve the same goal. Each month a different member gets all the perks and spoils of having been a hostess and you don't even have to get dressed up or clean your house! 

You can join an already established club or gather a few friends and make your own.  We can plan a monthly get-together.  I usually plan it for after the orders have come in so you not only get "new stuff" but you have time to play with it right then and there.  We can also arrange a virtual get together on Skype or Zoom or Facebook for you, or your group so that we can still enjoy each other's company while we create. 

We can also make a private group for members to share and inspire each other. 

For my in person clubs, I would normally advocate your purchase be in by the 1st or 15th of each month as the orders would come here and be packed and ready to go at the same time for everyone.  For a virtual club that isn't as imperative, but the group should agree on a date so that the host for that month isn't waiting endlessly for their chance to choose their host perks. During your month, sharing your hostess code with creative family and friends across Canada is encouraged and helps drive up the amount you get in free shopping dollars.

Thankful Thursday: Back to Basics

Do you ever get to feeling like you're so far behind that you might be in line for the next round already?   It's funny how we can give ourselves whole-heartedly in the service of others but somewhere in there, we forget to take care of ourselves.  It's time for a change.  Some might say that it's long overdue. 

These past few years have been hard - harder on some than most but hard just the same -- it's not a competition.  

I've dropped the ball here quite a bit, but I'm working hard to get that picked up and getting back to our previously scheduled programming as it were.  

Just when I was gearing up to get things going my laptop started blue-screening.  My beloved teddybear decided he'd get me a new laptop for my birthday.  In the middle of deliberating, my desktop machine bit the dust.  A new power supply was in order, but it seems that's not all that went for the ride.   So my office feels like it's limping along.  

So now the case sits abandoned in its home with a jazzy new microphone and a webcam that was bought for it last year as we were planning to start doing some online classes. I swear they're taunting me. 

Just when I started to give up on the tech portion of my world, my teddybear surprised me with the ordering of a new laptop.  The ad said it would be delivered by the 24th.  You can imagine the enthusiasm when he checked last night and it said that it would arrive tomorrow.  OH HAPPY DAY! 

It's perfect timing too!  I was accepted into the Business Development group for Stampin' Up! and I'm gearing back up again.  I've been plotting for a bit but we're long overdue for some action, some in-person craft sessions, and some virtual craft-along events.   It's long overdue.  I have missed you all!  

My hubby and our son have been plotting for software and programs to help me shift things into higher gear.  Hopefully, they'll also have a remedy for the gal who prefers to be behind the camera.  We will see. 

I will be taking the opportunity over the next few weeks to update my blog and my social media and I work on setting up my new laptop.  It feels like it has been so long since I got to run down to the cave and play I'm feeling like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning.  I'm calling it back to basics - simply because in many ways it feels like starting over. Don't worry, it's perfectly OK.  It's just been a long few years - you know - you were there too! 

The demonstrator previews of the upcoming Sale-a-bration and new mini catalog are out this week.  I cannot wait to share them with you all!  

I'll be celebrating 13 years back with Stampin' Up! at the end of March.  It hardly seems like it's been that long since I got back on my feet.  Just one of many blips in my rearview mirror. 

In the spirit of Thanksgiving for my friends and family down in the US.  I wanted to send a hearty thanks out to my friends and long-time customers that have stuck with me since the very beginning.  It's been a long ride.  I know some of us have lost touch, but I plan to reach out and reconnect.  It has been way too long!! 

I'd like to also thank my downline team.  Circumstances have made it difficult to support you in the way that I've always planned.  Stepping things up there is a big item on my to-do list for 2023.

New Clubs Starting in March!

Is your wish list bigger than your budget? Don't want to host an event - Join the club!

Joining a club is a great way to break down your wish-list into more manageable bites.

Club can be arranged in a variety of ways depending on the members of the group that are participating. Each club is based on the premise of a qualifying party being $200.00 before receiving host benefits

I've done paper shares, marker clubs, Paper Pumpkin clubs, In Colour clubs, Die Cutter Clubs and even a Sale-a-Bration club. By far, my most popular club is the standard club with a 6 month commitment of 6 months, with each member spending $35 each. Each month a different member gets to be the host/hostess and receive all the perks and spoils of having hosted a party -- and you didn't have to clean, make snacks or clean your house for company!

The club is customizable depending on the group. 4 people could easily spend $50 for 4 months, or 10 people could spend $20 for 10 months and achieve the same goal.

You can join an already established club, or gather a few friends and make your own club. Once we're all able to get together again we can meet in person in my craft room like we usd to. In the meantime we can arrange a virtual get together on Facebook, Skype or Zoom for you, or your group so that we can still enjoy each other's company while we create.

We can also make a private group for members to share and inspire each other.

I've offered in person classes as well as Crop nights, with or without make and takes but we seemed to transition to a space where my patrons were getting busy and we gravitated to more of a virtual club, and some groups would come with their own projects in mind and didn't want the make and take. I'd started putting together goodie bags that I came to consider as challenge bags. One of my favourite things was seeing how each person would take the same supplies and create based on the contents of the package. It was a lot of fun. Those days feel like they were way too long ago.

For my in person clubs, I would normally advocate your purchase be in by the 1st or 15th of each month as the orders would come here and be packed and ready to go at the same time for everyone. For a virtual club that isn't as imperative, but the group should agree on a date so that the host for that month isn't waiting endlessly for their chance to choose their host perks. During your month, sharing your hostess code with creative family and friends across Canada is encouraged and helps drive up the amount you get in free shopping dollars.

As we head into March, we've all been talking about how much more we need our creative outlets; perhaps more than ever before.

I know, I've been marveling at the fact that it has been almost 2 years since my best crafting buddies have come out to play.

It seems like I was just getting out of many months of prepping for major surgery, having the surgery, doing homecare -- I finally got discharged and we were celebrating my feeling great and planning ahead with March break with our youngest grandson, followed soon after by our youngest granddaughter and then there was lockdown. Full stop.

Full stop.. to just about everything. Everything seemed upside down. I was a whole lot younger that first time that I was a full time parent. I'd forgotten how toys multiply in the dark, and how much it hurts to walk on Lego and so many other things. The way we look at so many things has changed, thankfully many have also stayed the same. Having said that, we were lucky - so many of our friends weren't able to see their grandchildren and here we were with two of ours full time. Despite the crazy, we cannot help but be grateful for this time. The two cousins have become so very close for getting to spend so much more time together than they might have, had they been at home.

I've been feeling a little scattered, I'm not gonna lie. You'd think that getting to be at home that so much more of that honey-do list would be getting done, but it's exactly the opposite. Burning that candle at both ends while someone sets a campfire in the middle. We're all feeling rather burnt out and uninspired. It has been a challenge to carve out "me" time of any kind but I have been working on it, and for the last few months I've seen a difference. In amid the crazy, I have been plotting, collecting feedback and plotting. I cannot wait to share with you!

I've been asked to get back at clubs, and to offer some kind of classes. I've been working on re-vamping my regular clubs, as well as the specialized clubs and product shares. I'm hoping to start doing some live crafting get togethers and perhaps some lives, or video card classes. Despite my job, this is still outside my comfort zone. I'm working on that though. Also on that list is being a better resource to my growing team. One of the many things that I've let slide.

I've put in a couple of orders and have a great mix of sets, so I'll be featuring different sets monthly in hopes of inspiring us all to get back to getting ink on our fingers, and perhaps more importantly sharing what we are working on. I've been having fun creating graphics. I cannot wait to share them with you. I do have some Sale-a-bration projects that I'll be sharing posthumously since SAB ends today, but that's ok. I'd like to get back to my retired Sundays. This isn't all about sales (though they are great) more than anything it's about getting the gang back together and cranking out some crafty!

Someone once told me that the life expectancy of a paper crafter was about 2 years. At that point they've either gotten everything they feel they need and they stop shopping, they sign up to be a demonstrator themselves, or they move onto something else. I am lucky that most of my customers and friends have been with me since my early beginning, through 2 different uplines and many many of life's challenges. I am grateful for each and every one of you!

When I think about the hurdles in the 20-some years since I became a paper crafter. They weren't all mine, of course, but they all took their toll. Getting to dig into a creative project is good for the heart and soul. It's even better when we can do it together!

The downside is that we aren't getting to play in person, and I have so missed my crafty friends but the upside is that nobody is having to pay for fuel or brave the weather, and perhaps most importantly ~ we aren't taking the chance of getting anyone sick!

Don't Blink: Where does the time go?

I'm not gonna lie ~ when I hopped in today to update all the links for our new catalogs and ensure all the website information was still functional with the changes I was more than a little taken aback when I realized how long it had been since I'd shared here.

Could it really have been that long? It sure doesn't feel like it!

At the time I was gearing up for chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. That seems like so long ago now, but the time has flown right by.

I found myself chuckling a bit at how that particular week or so has had so many connotations and medical things around it. Both rounds of my cancer occurred in that time-frame strangely enough -- but this past October I was fortunate to be going in for surgery on my own terms with an amazing man. The first doctor since my gastric bypass that was willing to tackle the mess left behind.

I had my surgery and was in the hospital for a week, made it home for one day, and then was back in the hospital with a wound infection for another week. During that time, our youngest daughter gave us the precious gift of a brand new granddaughter. Dezorae arrived later than expected, but we didn't manage to get her for Grandma's birthday. She'd been due on the 7th and we teased that Mommy needed to bake her 2 more short days til my birthday, but then she waited several more. A true testament and promise to her future independence. Good for her, already living life on her own terms.

Our big giggle now is that Brayden arrived on Easter Sunday, and now Dezorae had arrived for Thanksgiving Sunday. I asked the girls to please let us know ahead of time which holiday they were picking next. I was in the hospital when our newest addition was being born. I was so happy when Mommy asked Grandpa to pick them up so I could meet her. Not the scenario I'd have picked, but she is such a precious gift. One look and nothing else matters.

We're not counting the knowledge of how much further behind I now am in scrapbooking.. LOL

I was home for several months with home care, and a vacuum therapy on my wound to help it heal faster. After all the problems we'd had years ago with that vacuum experience, I was reluctant but they've come a very long way since then.

Sadly, just when I was waving my pom-poms and gearing up to get back into things, celebrating being able to finally drive the new-to-me van that my hubby bought me prior to me going in for surgery. I got to drive it home, and once more after that before surgery took that ability away for quite some time, crafting, being able to lift more than 10 pounds finally among so many other things, March Break was upon us, and right on its heels Covid-19.

We've had our 2 youngest grandkids since this all began. Each has at least one parent working front-line retail and they needed to be safe. The Ottawa area was going crazy at the time and few were social distancing. The girls made the ultimate sacrifice to have Grandma and Grandpa bring them home until things blew over. We had no idea we'd still be juggling them (and everything else) some 4 months later. It has been crazy.

Brayden turned 6, and got to experience the strangest Easter and birthday he's ever had. Surprisingly he's got a better grasp of things than many of the adults we've seen.

Dezorae met and surpassed many milestones and in just a few short weeks she hit 9 months old, learned to stand, to crawl, and cut 6 teeth!

The kids have had more time together than they normally would have. They've become very close ~ my hubby keeps teasing that they're cousin-siblings. They both adore each other, it's a wonderful thing.

I've been working on the craft room. It's amazing how much "stuff" gets tucked in a room "for now" when nobody is using the space. I put in a couple of orders and was just settling into plotting for classes as this all hit, and I haven't played with things as much as I would have liked.

I got my first Annual Catalog order, and have been plotting. Not meeting in person adds a new challenge but together we'll meet that challenge too - right guys? Now we've got a brand new mini catalog ~ so much crafty goodness to share!

I cannot WAIT to share it all with you! Let me know if I can set you up with a set of catalogs ~ as always you can download them from my demonstrator website. The website is brand new as of today and I think you'll really like the look of that new site. Much of what you'd normally want from a website is now stacked on the main page and not spread out all over. It looks like it will be a lot more user friendly.

In any case, I want to thank all of my fabulous crafty customers and friends that stuck it out with me through all of this. I cannot wait to get back at crafting with YOU!

Changing up the Club for October 1st!

A new round of club starts in October, and I have decided to change things up somewhat.

Our regular club members have been a very busy bunch! So much so that we have often been found preparing for patrons who indicated they were coming but didn't arrive. Likewise much time has been spent in reminding members to place their orders, and in some cases get their payments in.

The ladies that have submitted on time have been submitting on time have been very patient, but they too have their limits. To be honest, having to nag for attendance, orders and payments sucks all the fun out of the whole exercise for everyone. It is definitely time for change!

I have some ladies who haven't even had time to pick up their goodies --- now that's pout worthy!!

As many of you know, I will also be starting chemotherapy and radiation in the near future for breast cancer. It is not known yet what the duration or frequency of either is. I know only that chemo comes first. I will know more later this week and then I will begin to work on the calendar for the last quarter of this year.

I've opted for more of a virtual club model this time around. I will continue to make a hostess code for each month so that those that would like to can order online and have shipped direct to them (anywhere in Canada). Of course you can also shop in person if you prefer.

Going forward, club orders will be due on the 1st of each month. That is both order and payment to be received by this time.

Instead of having a set "club" class day you will instead be able to choose a convenient day and time from my event calendar each month to come out and get your creative game on. There will be a variety of open crop days/times and classes to choose from.

It is my hope that by changing things up a little we can put the focus back on our crafting where it belongs.

Along with many of you, we are watching with concern as stories unfold about the devastation left behind in Texas and Louisiana by Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey. Though no one knows how many lives have been affected, Harvey is said to be one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history, and the damage caused by massive flooding will be felt for years to come.

With you, we’re also trying to stay informed on the progress of Hurricane Irma; as we write this, Irma has not yet made landfall but is currently classified as a catastrophic Category 5 storm. It will almost certainly leave as much destruction in its wake as Hurricane Harvey and will affect the lives of tens of thousands of people.

Though I hadn't really made a big announcement, I was pretty sure that by now most had heard my "big news." Aside from some personal notifications, I'd posted a few things about the tests on social media and had posted on my personal blog. I was pretty sure most knew.. Until this weekend.

I'd gotten a message from someone that had heard a rumor and was hoping I'd provide some kind of confirmation. (Insert laugh track here).

I've never been one to operate in rumor. Perhaps a bit of a job hazard, but I much prefer living in hard facts, and leaving the innuendo and whispering for the folks who have nothing better to do.

If you want me to know something, you'll tell me. If I want you to know something, I'll tell you. Life's too short to be sitting around whispering about people down the road you barely know.

I always laugh when that meme pops up that says something to the effect of "Oh.. You didn't know? Maybe it's none of your damned business!" Cracks me up every time. #TrueStory material right there.

I'm not one to post a lot of med-stuff, I'd much rather post about my grandkids and crafting and the fun stuff life brings. In this case it was important. In the same week I found some hope in clearing up a med zone fiasco. I was over the moon excited that I might finally be rid of the cyst we've been cultivating for the past 12 or so years, and that some of the mess left unfixed after my gastric bypass would be rectified. God Bless this doctor for daring to be confident to believe it could be a reality.

In the same week, I would also get the news that I have breast cancer. I was annoyed that I didn't get to enjoy the good news for a little while longer before getting more crap news, but I'm still putting one foot in front of the other. It's not the first time I've heard the words "You have cancer." It's been 23 years of med-zone "sh-tuff". I've become pretty resilient.

I've been told that I'll be doing radiation this time around which means I won't lose my hair. This makes me happy. I didn't do well as a bald blond woman the last time around. (Chuckles). I still don't know how many or how often, or how far along it might be. I won't know that for another week or so yet.

I am taking solace in the fact that it grew fast, it was caught and extricated immediately. I have to believe that this is not the way my story ends. I have much left to do, and I refuse to give up my pen.

For my ScrapNStampin' Friends: Fear not. I'm plotting for a variety of drop in play dates and crafting therapy as I've be affectionately calling it. I may have to reschedule a few things here and there, but I know you guys are awesome and won't leave me in the time out chair too long.

I've got Sunday Class/Club on the calendar at the moment for August, and I'm looking at August 20th for an all-day crop. I won't be plotting much else until after my follow up appointment on the 9th so that I'll know what comes next.

James tells me that the 9th will bring me luck as it's our 21st Anniversary. August also marks 12 years since we bought our first home and moved to Cardinal. We have much to be grateful for. Here's hoping that lucky horseshoe holds up for another round.

Hi!
Have you noticed the This Little Piggy Stamp Set (item 143922) in the annual catalog (US/CA)? If you are anything like me, it did not take you long to add it to your wish list.
I happen to know lots of people who love pigs, including my brother, who inherited the “piggy” nickname when he was little. My husband also loves them with a passion.
Needless to say, I could not pass up on getting this stamp set. So without further ado, let me show you what I created!

I love the flying pig and the little kisses from this set, so I started by putting together a Cupid-themed card, with a pig in place of the cherub.
If you like background stamps but aren’t sure how to use them, here’s an idea: stamp the image on Vellum 8-1/2" Cardstock using VersaMark ink (item 102283) and heat emboss with the powder of your choice. The patterns really stand out and the Vellum Cardstock adds a wonderful touch to your project. I used the Tree Rings Background Stamp with the wood rings. (I love the circles of various sizes!)
For the circle embellishment, die cut the biggest one from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies (item 145372) and use the new Pattern Party Decorative Masks (item 144103) and a Stamping Sponge (item 141337) or a Sponge Dauber (item 133773) to make the clouds. By moving the mask and sponging, you’ll get a sky full of clouds. (Try to make the clouds on top a little darker.)

I wanted a rounded shape for my gift tag, so I used only half of the Stitched Shapes Framelits large oval and ran my cardstock through the Big Shot (item 143263); in keeping with the theme, I added a hole using one of the cloud dies from the Up & Away Thinlits Dies (item 142748). For the background, I used the new Marbled Background Stamp (item 144772).
Do you like the 1/4" Copper Trim (item 144179)? I don’t know if it’s possible to appreciate its true beauty by just looking at the catalog, but the mesh trim gives you all kinds of different options. Here I stretched the wiring to create a little copper net. Fast and easy!
I considered two different types of paper for stamping the pigs: Shimmery White Cardstock (item 101910) or Watercolor Paper (item 122959) (used on the project). In general, I prefer Watercolor Paper, but the shimmer of the cardstock can really add a nice touch to small surfaces like the pigs. It’s just a matter of personal preference.
Here’s another tip for background stamps, which are large and tricky to handle: ink the whole surface (or part of it) with the ink pad, then place the paper on the part of the image you’re interested in. Use your fingers to apply pressure on the whole surface without moving the paper. It’s that simple!

For the gift packaging, I created a Whisper White Cardstock (item 100730) pocket using the Gift Bag Punch Board (item 135862) (size M/ 6" tall). To get more volume, I played with the 1/4" Copper Trim bows to make them wider. I wanted to make the pig look as if he were leaping, so I cut out the grass and placed it all around him.
We should always keep embellishments in mind when finishing projects. I used the new Metallics Sequin Assortment (item 144214) to add shine. As for the small hearts, they come from the Everyday Jars Thinlits Dies (item 141490).

Those little piggies seem so blissful! I hope they will make you as happy as they make me!

Hi stampers! I’m one of those people who is obsessed with succulents right now so I knew I wanted to do something with them for you—but not the same old same old. As I was playing around with my Live, Love, Grow Stamp Set (141905), I thought about spraying them with a Stampin’ Spritzer (126185) and I LOVED the effect!

I probably made no less than a million of these! It’s so fun to play around with color combinations and no two will look alike, which I love! I stamped my succulents on our Watercolor Paper (item 122959) in combinations of Mint Macaron (item 138326), Old Olive (item 126953), and Always Artichoke (item 126972) ink.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with colors and with different levels of saturation. Start off with just a little spray and go from there. I got a little heavy-handed a few times and it didn’t end well. You can always add more water but you can’t take it back! You can see that some of them blended more than others. The look is subtle and soft and I just love it.

I then cut each one out with our Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies (item 145372). I accented my cards with the Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper (item 142778), Succulent Garden 3/8" Ribbon Combo Pack (item 142781), Classy Designer Buttons (item 138393), and Linen Thread (item 104199). I used my stitched dies again to make a few accents, as well. Finally, I punched out my sentiments with the Classic Label Punch (item 141491) for a fun and modern look.

Here’s a little tip for cutting banners using the Big Shot (item 143263) and your Layering Squares Framelits Dies (item 141708). Simply take a strip of paper and line a die up with the edges to make your “V” cut. You’ll have a perfect corner every time!

While I used the Live, Love, Grow Stamp Set from the annual catalog, you could totally use the Oh So Succulent Stamp Set (item 142992) from the occasions catalog as well. Here’s a card I made with it!
