It has been raining quite a bit as of late and this is how I spent July 5th, 2010; sleeping.

I think I over cropped this in the process of trying to achieve 2:35. I’m learning as I go. I’m not a professional. Anyway I hope it’s effective artistically. This was edited in Final Cut Express, and graded in Adobe After Effects. Additionally, I used time re-mapping to achieve the slightly slowed effect in the middle portion of the video. The majority of the video was shot at 24 fps.

I was in my room and apparently my brother was outside. My mom stops dead in her tracks and yells at the top of her lungs.

Jonathan! If you don’t CLOSE that refrigerator I’m just gonna stick you with this fork!!

All the while I’m lying in bed surfing Twitter on my iPhone as I hear this and quickly turn to bury my face in my pillow laughing hysterically.

It is 12:27am as I start writing this and I’m about to go to bed because I’m yawning to no end. So this will be brief and to the point.

Counting today now that it’s passed midnight, I have 34 days remaining of freedom (lol) before I have to report back to the MEPS station to ship off to basic combat training, followed by advanced individual training. I most certainly will not lie nor hold back in saying that I am a bit nervous and hope that I will be successful. I have heard seemingly countless stories from soldiers at my unit during drill weekends, and have been given an overwhelming amount of advice, almost strictly in the form of “Do’s” and “Don’ts”. Every soldier has been absolutely encouraging to me, in word and deed. I feel that I am in the right place and honestly cannot wait to complete my initial entry training to get back to my unit to be and do what a soldier does.

All in all, I am very excited!

Okay this is the last feature on my mom’s dog Reed for a while. I just couldn’t resist sharing this background info and video I made of him.

This is Reed. He was ironically rescued from an animal rescue in bad condition, and fortunately taken in by the Humane Society of Broward County. He is a golden retriever-labrador mixed and very loving. He was 12 weeks old at the time my mom decided to make a home for him. He will be five months old as of July 2010.

Notes:

We live in sunny South Florida with some intense summer heat this year, and I wanted to however highlight the beauty of a summer day in nice way. So I grabbed my camera and took Reed outside for his usual walk, and this is the final result. Comment if you like it and thanks for watching.

My mother recently got herself a dog in light of my departure for army training for four months and would be alone (Yes, I live with my mom. But I’m no scrub. I am a working professional with my personal affairs in order. We’re in a recession!! lol). Additionally, my brother will be away at college. So it would have been an empty home, until now.

So animals and what not have just been on the brain, and while taking photos today of our little addition named Reed in the front yard, I came across a little story I snapped from the teacher’s lounge at work. It’s a story about a boy who truthfully told his teacher what his favorite animal was. The story is below the picture.

Reed is my favorite animal at the moment because of this ultra cute picture I snapped of him this morning (excuse my silly finger that got in the way at the top-left of the photograph. I cropped it a bit. Silly fingers!! lol) Do you have a favorite animal?

Camera: iPhone 4 – Click image to enlarge

My Favorite Animal

Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, “Fried chicken.” She said I wasn’t funny, but she couldn’t have been right, because everyone else in the class laughed.

My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals so much.

I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal’s office. I told him what happened, and he laughed too. Then he told me not to do it again.

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she’d asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal’s office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again.

I don’t understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn’t like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most.

I told her, “Colonel Sanders.”

Guess where I am now…???
