[...] I’ll tell you that I didn’t mean to imply that The Ticker spends $10,000 on photography equipment alone, but The Ticker is apparently wasting your money. Whether it’s your tax money, your tuition money, or your student activity money, The Ticker uses a lot of it to produce a newspaper and pay themselves very nicely. According to Michael Wursthorn in a post on the Ticker’s website, the staff splits 35% of the revenue the Ticker takes in. He also claimed “the surplus” goes into the student activity fees. There is no surplus. The Ticker is funded through the communications budget of the school and student activity fees. If they were making a profit for the school there would not be any money budgeted to them. Since The Ticker has never operated in a transparent or democratic fashion, nobody knows what kind of money these people are stealing from you, and you just got tricked into paying more activity fees. (See “Did you know?“) [...]

Oh man, and that is why I need help in this effort! I am bleary eyed from programming a WordPress system and trying to keep up with the info. Thank you very much for pointing out the error, and the article will be updated via the use of strike through, leaving the original error in tact. When the time comes that an editorial staff is in place, a different policy might take effect.

This is a shame. I am completely against the USG constitutional amendments. The constitution removed all the Evening Student representatives and committees. USG argued that this makes for a fairer playing field, but I think they dropped the ball here. Having a number of senators and a committee dedicated to Evening Students forces the USG to consider the subset in all deliberations. With no enrollment distinction requirements more often than not those who will offer themselves to the commitment of the USG would be Day Students who have more opportunity to make the commitment and foster the relationships needed to run for USG.

I was even more angry that I only learned off the amendments last Thursday through Dr. Aylman's email. Where was the debate on the amendments? My fellow USG Evening Senator, Colin Rosenbaum, and I (we both were elected to vacant seats four wks ago) joined together to write a ltr about the referendum to the Ticker. Hopefully it will be printed, so we can at least address the injustice here.

Rob-
The numbers def add up. The Ticker just wrote the review in an odd way. If Ben received 1061 votes, 209 more than Garam; then Garam must have received 852 votes (1061 minus 209). When all three candidates vote count are added up we get more than two thousand votes. 1061 + 852 + 119 = 2032
I think that makes more sense.

Comment on If you want to vote, you better hurry. As in, you have 2 minutes 18 seconds to cast 47 of them. by Rob Reale

The following letter was sent to Carl Aylman with a copy to Stan Altman on Tuesday, April 13:

<blockquote>Dear Mr. Aylman,

With 3 voting booths, Baruch has not provided enough resources for a reasonable turnout for the USG election and referendums.

If the same number of students that voted in last year's USG election wanted to vote this year, that would give each student - if they all waited in line perfectly all day for the full 8 hours - 2 minutes and 18 seconds to cast 47 votes. So far voting is reportedly down 15% on the first day, and I witnessed a long line every time I passed the voting area today.

This is simply not acceptable. Presumably from all the reports, enrollment is up at Baruch this year. Baruch administration has a responsibility to provide resources sufficient for students to vote without being rushed at some point convenient for them during the school week.

When a student sees that the school has allotted three voting booths for 16,000 students, there is an automatic perception by any sensible person that there are insufficient resources for the student to vote in an expeditious manner, regardless of the reality of the situation. They will be automatically predisposed to abstain from voting.

This creates a de facto denial of the access to vote, and the right to vote is one bestowed on every Baruch student. It should go without saying that you have never had any intention of possibly allowing anywhere near the full student body the ability to vote in this election, but Baruch has to to better.

The least that Baruch can do is double the voting period through next week.

Please address this at once.
