iPhone Dev team has pushed an update to Redsn0w jailbreaking utility making it to the version 0.9.12 beta 2 which includes several bug fixes including a new addon for injecting Rocky racoon on limera1n-able devices.

“Update #1: Starting with version 0.9.12b2, redsn0w will now explicitly ask users with limera1n-able devices whether they want to inject rocky-racoon using the DFU ramdisk method, ro the backup/restore method (the ramdisk method is better for those with lots of media on their device that would create very large backups, and it’s required for those with unactivated iPhones). If you’ll always want to use limera1n, you can select that in the Preferences pane. It also fixes an iBooks issue an old-bootrom 3GS iPhones, and provides more useful error messages when things go wrong.”

iPhone 4 Baseband 4.12.01, 4.11.08 Unlock

Many of my readers and friends ask me this question weather is there a way to unlock iPhone 4 on baseband 4.12.01 or 4.11.08 or not.

Last month, there popped up many unlocking solutions for these two basebands including SAM unlock method, Gevey SIM ultra 5.1, R-SIM IV and Rebel Micro sim interposer. But the only legit and working method was SAM unlock which required nothing but Cydia inside your iPhone. Just a few days later, Apple fixed the SAM unlock method and thus it stopped working but people who already got their iPhone unlocked using sam technique were safe as long as they have had backed up unlock activation tickets.

Then there came ApplenBerry's Gevey sim ultra 5.1 who promised to unlock iPhone 4 on any baseband till 4.12.01. Just when the SAM unlock got patched, ApplenBerry announced that Gevey ultra interposer was based on the SAM unlock and so they recalled all the Sim cards back.

If your iPhone 4 is locked on Vodafone carrier, then you can get it unlocked for free by following the guide posted here. And if it is locked on At&t and your phone is off-contract, you can get it unlocked for free by simply contacting them. There is also an iPhone unlocking service available. Try that.

Other than these, there is no unlocking solution for these two basebands, I guess. Though R-SIM IV and Rebel Micro sim pro are there but why trust them? There are no words on these two interposers if they really work or not. If someone have tried any of these interposers, please let me know if they are legit or not in the comments below.

How to unlock iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.1.1

Once jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1, you can unlock it using ultrasn0w fixer as dev team's ultrasn0w is not yet made compatible with iOs 5.1.1. Follow the guide posted here to do so.

How to unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1.1
If your iPhone 4 has baseband 1.59.00, you can unlock it using the same procedure described above. If it has higher than 1.59.00 and upto 4.10.01, you can unlock it using Gevey Sim. I am not sure if Gevey sim is yet made compatible with 5.1.1 or not. Please confirm this from applenberry.

How to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 using Sn0wbreeze 2.9.5

Developer of sn0wbreeze has updated it to version 2.9.5 that can be used to jailbreak all A4 devices on iOs 5.1.1 with added support for the newly released iPhone 4 5.1.1 build 9B208.

Remember that sn0wbreeze can't jailbreak A5 devices so use Absinthe 2.0.2 if you want to jailbreak iPad 2, iPad 3 or iPhone 4s. Sn0wbreeze 2.9.5 also comes with a location service fix for iPhone 3GS users having iPad baseband (6.15.00). So let's proceed with to the jailbreak tutorial:

You will need:
1. Stock 5.1.1 IPSW file for your device
2. Sn0wbreeze 2.9.5
3. Latest version of iTunes which you can get at itunes.apple.com

Step 1: Run Sn0wbreeze and connect your device with computer.

Step 2: Proceed to next step by clicking the blue arrow button and then choose Browse for an IPSW

Step 3: Select the 5.1.1 IPSW file of your device and click open.

Step 4: Sn0wbreeze will now verify the provided ipsw file. Click blue arrow after that to continue.

Step 5: Now select Expert Mode and then Build IPSW.

Step 6: Sn0wbreeze will now start to make your custom IPSW file and will it place it on your desktop after it has completed the task.

Step 7: It will now ask you to put your device into dfu mode. Follow the instructions to do so.

Step 9: Once in Dfu mode, open iTunes and Shift + click on Restore button to bring up a pop-up window. Select the custom created 5.1.1 file from your desktop.

That's it. Leave the rest to iTunes. If you get 3194 error, follow the guide posted here to resolve that.

Cydia not appearing after jailbreaking iOS 5.1.1 with Absinthe 2.0

I have been trying to jailbreak my iPad 2 3G iOS 5.1.1 using Absinthe 2.0 on Windows but after a successful jailbreak, Cydia icon does not appear on the device. But I just managed to fix this issue.

I backed up my iPad from iTunes then reset it by going to Settings > General > reset > Reset all content and settings and then applied the jailbreak. It worked like a charm.

Just follow the guidlines from the video below to downgrade your iPad 2, iPad 3 or iPhone 4S.

Note: You must have SHSH blobs saved for the iOs you wish to downgrade your device to. Either locally on your Pc or on Cydia. If you don't have SHSH for the firmware you want to downgrade to, you cannot downgrade.
