Yes, defragmenting your hard drive is one of the ways to speed up your computer but also the most that takes a lot of time to finish. There is a huge difference between the two days gap that i checked my blog Alexa ranking. Last 2 days ago, may blog Alexa ranking is somewhere in 360k, while today that i checked it has a ranking of 250K. That's more than 100k of improvements and it's very unlikely for an Alexa ranking to boost that big in just a very short period of time without changing on the number of daily blog visitors. But that improvements on ranking on most of the sites doesn't just happen without a cause, that happens because of the new method of Alexa to gather information on the number of site visitors. Unlike the previous method which only rely on the number of site visitor that has the Alexa toolbar installed.

Allows Windows to Remember up to 1024 items Copied on Clipboard

One of the bad things about Windows built-in clipboard is the lack of support to remember more that one items on clipboard. Meaning, the item that is saved on clipboard will be overwritten whenever you copied an item again on clipboard.

Luckily, there is a little freeware utility called ClipX that can allows you to save from 4 items up to 1024 items on your clipboard. This will prevent from loosing important items from clipboard if you've accidentally click "Copy" instead of "Paste" (I'm sure you know what i mean). ClipX is very handy for those who are frequently using Clipboard or for those who want to have an easy access of clipboard history.

If you've installed ClipX on your computer, just press "CTRL + SHIFT + INSERT" or "CTRL + SHIFT + V" for all the items on your Clipboard to appear. And voila, you can use your mouse to choose the item you need or just press the number on your keyboard that corresponds to the item you need.

You can also customize ClipX according to your needs. Like for example, you can set the number of items that can be saved on Clipx from 4 - 1024.

Microsoft Unveiled Improved Destop Search For Windows XP

If you have used the built-in Search feature of Windows XP, you've probably been dismayed with the performance of it. When you're searching for a specific file on your Windows XP machine and use its built-in search feature you'll surely get search result in a couple of minutes unlike using a 3rd party utilities like the so popular Copernic Desktop Search which will give you search result in a matter of seconds. That's why the built-in search feature of Windows XP has been discarded by PC power users long ago.

Windows Users are Not Allowed to Install Safari Browser

We all know that Apple have released a version of its Safari browser for Windows users, but why Safari license agreement clearly forbids the installation of it to a non-apple labeled computer?

The question is, why Apple released such a version of its own Safari browser for Windows wherein it doesn't allows to install it on a non-apple labeled system? In fact, the licensing agreement of Safari is updated last January 2008 which is six months after the released of Windows version of Safari.

Actually, I am not much affected by this issue because I've already uninstalled Safari browser on all my systems after i tried and have blog about it last year. But of course I'm just concern about this issue because it involves very important thing to be cleared.

What Apple must do is to update the EULA of Safari or discontinue offering Safari for Windows if Apple can't really take Windows Users using their software.

OpenOffice has released the latest version 2.4. The new version includes many new features, bug fixes and enhancements. GIF is one of the most common image format used on the net. Almost everyone who have surf the Internet are surely have seen a GIF formatted image. GIF is composed of different images to show a movie-like image. But how do you split those different images on a GIF image? Actually, there are a bunch of ways on how to extract or split the images on a GIF image but editing online is the most easiest way because you don't need to install an editing program on your computer.

GIFWorks can easily extract images on a GIF image online. It's so easy to use, just upload the file or just enter the URL of the image if it's already on the net and choose "Optimize" then "Split Into Frames". GIFWorks will then extract the images on the GIF which you can download or do whatever you want. You can also perform different things aside from extracting the images like reducing the color.

Lifehacker's editors have compiled a list of 10 software Easter eggs which includes the top 10 Easter eggs found on softwares like Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Earth, OpenOffice, Emacs, Minesweeper, excel 97, Picasa and uTorrent.

Easter Eggs on softwares are features that can be found but are not included in the documentation of a software. Those features are mostly leave intentionally by the software developer as an Easter Eggs.

One of the best Easter Eggs that i know but not included on Lifehacker's list is the hidden game that can be found on Spybot.

Are you tired of repeatedly doing computer works everyday in your office? Why not pause for a moment and relax you mind and use your existing Windows XP Command Prompt to watch Star Wars? Yeah, you read it right, you can watch Star Wars IV directly on your PC Command Prompt. Here's how to do it:

Open a Command Prompt windows (Start>Run> type "cmd")
On the open Command Prompt windows just type "TELNET" without the quotes and press enter
Then type "o" (the Letter O not the number 0) and press enter
After that, type "towel.blinkenlights.nl" again without the quotes and press enter
Then wait for Star Wars to entertain you.

BTW, this is a very old story, but surely there are still lots of PC users who have no knowledge about it. That's why i decided to post it here.

Read DOCX Files Without Word2007 via Internet Explorer

Reading a .docx file on a computer without the latest Microsoft Office installed is the most common problem that computer users experienced nowadays. As we all know, .docx is the newest format of word that is written on Office 2007 and you can't easily open it on previous versions of Office from Office 2003 downwards.

Luckily, if you'll just need to read what inside of a .docx file and don't want to install any programs or convert the file online, you can use Internet Explorer to read the text contained by the .docx file. What you need to do is change the filename extension of the file from .docx to .zip (example "homework.docx" will become "homework.zip") then extract the file using any of the available compression utility installed on your computer. Then open the folder with filename "word" and open the contain file with filename document.xml using Internet Explorer. You'll then have the complete text of your .docx file.

This is very handy if you want to easily read the text on a .docx file without needing to install a third party utility.

Safari 3.1 is Out

It's much better not to mentions speed when comparing Safari to other much popular web browser like Firefox, Internet Explorer (IE) and Opera, because you'll just end up debating. Even thou Apple claims that their very own Safari is the world's best browser there are still lots of Internet surfers that are not yet convinced with Safari to be the world's best browser. That's why it's better not mentions speed when you're referring to Safari.

So, I'll not mention speed here, instead I'll only tell you that Apple has released the newest version of Safari, the version 3.1. Surely, there are lots of bug fixes and improvements from the previous version and we'll expect a better web surfing experience than the previous version.

Create a Junk File via File Destructor

Do you have a deadline tomorrow to submit a powerpoint presentation to your professor, but don't want to interrupt your adventure with your favorite MMORPG. File Destructor can come in handy in such cases. File Destructor can create you a FAKE file that can be use as a replica of the file you're intended to submit. The file that can be generated by File Destructor can have a common format like .doc, .ppt, .zip, .mpg, etc. Meaning, if you're really to lazy to finish your project you can use File Destructor and create a FAKE file, for example, if you need to pass 10MB of powerpoint presentation then you can generate a FAKE file with a .ppt format and a size of 10MB. You'll then have much time to finish the real powerpoint presentation file until your professor tells you about the corrupted file you've submitted.

Choose the File Format of the FAKE file

Send the FAKE file to your professor

Blogger Now Supports Publishing a Post to Future Date

As we all know, blogger is not so rich in features unlike the blog client Wordpress, but Google is adding new features to blogger frequently. Like the ability to publish a post in a future date which is a long-time missing feature in blogger, is now added in the draft page of blogger which will also be included soon as a regular features of blogger.

But as of know, this new feature of blogger can only be used if you log-in in draft page of blogger. So to experience the schedule posting and other soon to be added features in blogger you must log-in to http://draft.blogger.com instead of http://www.blogger.com.

The ability to publish a post in a future date can be used if you want to write a post now but want to publish it in a future date, which is very handy if there's is a scheduled power outrage in your area or a scheduled maintenance by your ISP but don't want to leave your blog not updated.

This move of Google just indicate that it's making its way for blogger to be a rich in features like wordpress.

Yeah there are lots of software that can turn your .doc file to PDF file but only few software can turn your PDF file to .doc. Turning a PDF file to .doc format is much complicated than doing it vice versa, that's why only few software support converting a PDF file to a Word Document.

Use StumbleUpon Without Installing a Toolbar

As we all know, to use the service of StumbleUpon you only need to install a browser toolbar and you can then start to discover new sites but this also become the biggest problem of some StumbleUpon user because the StumbleUpon browser toolbar only support IE and Firefox leaving the other browser unsupported. What if you're using different browser like Opera and Safari?

Luckily, StumbleUpon has a demo feature that lets you stumble sites using a virtual toolbar without needing to install a browser toolbar. What you need to do is enter http://www.stumbleupon.com/demo/#url= in your browser and click the stumble button to immediately see a site. This is quite good if you only want to stumble but don't want to register or install the toolbar. But of course, this has disadvantages than installing the toolbar. Here are some of the disadvantages:

You can't get/log-in your account
You can't actually vote for a page
You can't personalize the pages that will be shown to your taste
etc...

But for Opera and Safari users, this is good enough if they only want to stumble interesting and cool sites and don't want to change their beloved browser.
