The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) campuses recently held a barbecue, a massage clinic fundraiser in addition to an internal promotion to benefit the Wild West Multiple Sclerosis Walkabout (August 20th-22nd), an event which helps benefit those who are stricken by this disease. During the drive students, staff and faculty members pitched in with a unified effort to assist in the effort with a total of over $3,200 dollars were donated.

The Wild West Multiple Sclerosis Walkabout is a 50 mile 3 day walk along the trails of Fort Collins. Each walker is to raise a minimum of $750 through sponsorships. For information go to http://wildwestmswalkabout.org/. The IBMC team of walkers includes: Tom Goehring, Hideo Matsushita, Rick Jennings and Paul Anderson. To donate go to this team go to: http://www.active.com/donate/2010wwmsw/jonnygeewalkers.

Tom Goehring the Director of Technology Services at IBMC, has a direct interest in this foundation. His son Jonathan was stricken with MS several years ago. Jonathan has received several scholarships directly from the Center for Neurorehabilitation Services CNS Foundation, a beneficiary of this fundraiser.

Wild West MS Walkabout & Multiple Sclerosis Information:

The proceeds of the fundraiser Wild West MS Walkabout will be divided with 20% going to the support the local research and wellness programs of the Colorado Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS). Another 20% will support the Rocky Mountain MS Center. The mission of the Rocky Mountain MS Center is to help people living with MS and their families lead a quality life by providing individualized care, support, education and research.

The remaining 60% will go directly to people in need who live with MS providing items including medical equipment, environmental modifications, ramps, and mobility devices as well as therapy services not covered by other sources

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of the brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves. Colorado has one of the highest prevalence rates of multiple sclerosis in the country. One in every 580 Coloradoans lives with MS. In fact, MS is ten times more prevalent in Colorado than it is in the South and the most commonly diagnosed neurological disease in adults ages 20-50. For more information about MS please visit the Rocky Mountain MS Center at www.mscenter.org and the National MS Society at www.nmss.org.

Your network is essential to your job search.

Not all job opportunities are posted which is why word of mouth is key.

Don’t wait until you are desperate for a job to start connecting with your network.

Break down your network to determine who in it can be most helpful.

Take the time to learn what people in your network need first and try to help them.

Always be prepared for a job search by keeping your network up to date.

But due to the type of information that many of us share on FB privacy is always a concern. As IBMC moves to stay more in touch with students via Facebook we want to make sure you are familiar with Facebook’s privacy settings and how to adjust them.

This brief video tutorial shows you exactly where to find your settings and how to adjust them:

Facebook is a social networking website launched in February 2004 and operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. Users can add people as friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organized by workplace, school, or college. The website’s name stems from the colloquial name of books given to students at the start of the academic year by university administrations in the US with the intention of helping students to get to know each other better. Anyone age 13 or older can become a Facebook user.
