International Muslim Culture Exhibition 2013 (IMCE 2013)

IMCE 2013 is an annual exhibition that held to introduce Muslim culture in Taiwan. This year, the exhibition will be held for 2 days (December 16-17 2013) in T4 Building National Taiwan University Science and Technology (NTUST), Taipei. Trip to Alishan Mountain

On 16^th March 2013, ICA member joint the trip to Alishan mountain. International Office of Chung Hua University (CHU) organized this activity. We went from CHU by charter bus and the trip took around 4 hours. After arrived in Alishan mountain, we separate in to several groups. Some took mountain forest railway to go to the peak of the mountain and others by did hiking to reach the top of the mountain. Most of visitor come to see sunrise from the top of mountain. There are several destination for tourist attraction in Alishan mountain, such as the Jushan, Giant trees trail, Shoujhen temple, and two sisters pond. Eventhough a little tired, but we get great experience about the trip.

BBQ ICA-MINT

On 9th December 2012, ICA and MINT held an activity in CHU. In the BBQ activity, we serve many kind of food from Jordan and Indonesia such as kebab, sate, and tempe. We prepared the food since the morning and serve it in the afternoon in BBQ area inside the school. In the activity, we also perform Jordan traditional dance. In the dance, all male dancer stand nearby and also move around the circle. The dance is quite simple, but sometimes it was difficult to follow. We enjoy the activity and have fun together.

BBQ ICA-MINT

ICA and MINT (CHU International volunteer) is just like brother and sister. Sometimes we held collaboration activity either in school or outside the school. On 7th August 2012, we held a BBQ activity in CHU school. Brothers and sisters from Muslim Student Club in Hsinchu (MSC) also attend this activity. MSC is a Muslim club in National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu. We served many kinds of food from Jordan, Indonesia and Taiwan. The activity held in Ramadhan, so Muslim brothers and sisters also did many activity such as pray Isya and Tarawih, and also discussion about Islam, etc.

CHU Club Exhibition

14th May 2012 is the exhibition day for all of club in CHU. In this activity, we must show our creativity and clubs activities. Many things are assessed by judge from school, such as the club meeting, financial report, and information about the activity through internet. Several teachers from school will give score for all clubs. We try our best to get the highest scores and get the same price as last year. However, after announcement we lost and get the third place for this year. But thats ok, because next year we will give better performance and get number one. Ciao!!

ICA Presidential Election

Islam and Culture Association of Chung Hua University(ICA-CHU), have done its anuual election for the management of the club, for the acamedic year 2012/13. notably the changes were for the Presidential and Vice-President positions which are filled by new members. They are bestowed with the responsibilties to uphold the integrity of the club by being role models and as well embarking on activites to aspired others and advance the club to a higher level.

For the election, Mohammad Jamal was elected as the President of the club, while Omar A.J Saho was elected as the Vice-President. The election was free and fair as members of ICA openly chose those that think can serve club for a better future, morally, academically and volunteerly. “It was conducted in a very successful way”.

National Chiao Tung University Anniversary

On April 14, 2012, several of ICA members went to the national chiao tung university (NCTU) to celebrate the anniversary of university. In the early morning, ICA member (Okta, Omar, Desi, and Munira) took the first bus to NCTU. After arrived in NCTU, our colleague join with Muslim Student Club (MSC) and the celebration was conducted outside of NCTU library.

The celebration was very successful. Team have also attend the job fair for graduate students, in which applications were done by few of the group members. Many big company participated in this job fair, such as IBM, Foxconn, Everlight and many companies located in Hsinchu science park. We also cooked halal food together with other Taiwanese friends and shared the happiness in that beautiful day.. ^^

Indonesia as a big country rich in culinary and cuisine which was presented on CHU anniversary celebration 2012. Fund Raising ICA and MINT for volunteering program

MINT is one of volunteering club in Chung Hua University and has annual program to Indonesia. MINT and ICA have a very good relationship and always together in many activities. In order to facilitate MINT club going to Padang, Indonesia, ICA as an official partner of the program have helped MINT in fund raising. Besides, ICA has also accompanied MINT in introducing Indonesia to them by teaching Indonesia culture and language. This mutual friendship, ICA and MINT, has enhanced strong relation and cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan.

Hsinchu is one of big city in Taiwan and popular with collection of building for research and high tech company called as Scince park. However most of the people don’t know one the bad impact of Hsinchu science park area for human and nature.

On April 30th 2011, ICA club association, International volunteer group and Bamboo community make a research to see the impact of this issue. We followed one of the rivers in Hsinchu city, called as Ke-ya river. We tried to observe the physical changes along the river, from upstream to downstream of the river.

On this research and observation, we used bicycle which lend by the department of hospitality and management. After the entire group members gather in Student Activity Center, then the group was divided in to 2 groups, we called group A and B. For group A, tried to find the impact of the manufacture In downstream of the rivers, while group B make the observation in upstream of the rivers.

From the observation, we can see clearly the physical difference between the rivers before unite with the sewer from Hsinchu science park and after. We also asked to the local people everything related to the Ke Ya river. In the observation, we also find out that several of people around the river used the water from Ke Ya river as their irrigation. Surely this is could produce the bad impact of the human that consume those food. After the observation, we went back to school and discussed the result of our observations. This activity gives us a very valuable experience about the impact of industrialization and also the importance of the nature and ecosystem for us.

Biking Activity and Visit Naluwan Aboriginal

Biking is quite fun activities, especially on weekends. Many people do this activity in Taiwan, and it’s quite different compare to our hometown in Indonesia. On 16th April 2011, we get change to do biking activity to explore around Nanliau. This activity fully support by BCUA, a partner local NGO in Taiwan. We arrive in Nanliau around 9.20 and then we rent bicycle in a rent shop. The price for one bicycle is around NT$100, but because we rent more than 10 bicycle, we just paid NT$80/bicycle.

The trip started from 9.45, and we just follow the bicycle route which is very clear and easy to follow. On the trip, we saw a big building which is a landfill for Hsinchu. Maybe you couldn’t imagine such a place for landfill, because in Indonesia most of the landfill just open and we think unmanaged and organize well.

We also visit Naluwan aboriginal community in Nanlaou. Slightly the people don’t look like Chinese people, because their skin a little bit looks like people in Indonesia or Indian. And what more make us surprise is when the count from 1 to 10, the counting just similar with language Gayo language in Aceh, Indonesia. So, we think maybe there is a relationship between Naluwan people and the Gayo people in Aceh, Indonesia. After all activities, we went back to Hsinchu downtown by bus around 5 pm. The trips make us get more knowledge about Taiwan and also we have fun and healty.
