The 4 Do’s to Lovely Layering

Do start from the bottom. Build a good base look underneath that you can remove without totally unraveling your look, remember this when slowly building your layers, you might end up shedding them later.

Do avoid excess. Use complimentary colors and patterns and never overdo too much of one thing (this goes for accessories too!) layers is all about artfully mixing shades and details.

Do minimize bulk. To avoid the stuffed turkey look, always keep things sleek, the thinner the better underneath and you can afford bulk with the heavier outerwear layers such as jackets and coats.

Do wear longer pieces on the bottom. Don’t forget to pay attention to proportions, make sure to top long pieces such as a tunic-length blouse with a shorter cropped jacket on top to balance it out.

Models seem so unapproachable sometimes. They fly around the world for glamorous photoshoots, seem to always have an enviable complexion, and get gorgeous designer goodies after walking catwalk shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Now that we’re in the midst of Milan Fashion Week, there has been a plethora of new street style shots from models on the streets of Milan, and we’re starting to find that even though we may never achieve their smooth and poreless skin even through an insane regimen, we can at least channel their style (on a more comfortable budget, of course). Ikat? A lot of this season’s trends are based upon mixing and matching textures and patterns. These variations do that in spades. The crop tops bear the midriff and the bodycon skirts are high-waisted – the real interest comes within the individual pieces. It was really hard to decide on just one streetstyle look of Liu Wen’s to highlight, because she has really turned her style up a notch this runway season (not that she’s not always absolutely stunning), but, during New York Fashion Week, she was snapped wearing this urban, casual-cool outfit that we absolutely cannot get enough of. We’re starting off our rendition of Liu’s outfit with a pair of black, moto-embellishment inspired pants (zippers! Fading!), a pair of colorful loafers that transform the “borrowed-from-the-boys” vibe into a totally fun alternative, and a classic black satchel that can pair with just about anything.

All in all, the look has a carefree, youthful aspect that remains wearable enough for the more mature dude.

Clearly, Harry can’t get enough of this look either because he was caught on camera sporting the Burberry top on more than one occasion. While we can appreciate the budding sophistication of Harry’s style, Burberry might not be the most practical look for our wallets.
