First treat of the week! Ever got tired of looking at the same word icon? That acrobat pictograph is the reason of boredom in your life?? Well, Iconshock comes to the rescue!! 100 Best hardware and gadget icon sets on the net

Ok friends, now it’s four in a row. Hurray for me! Four top 100 lists in a month, only one away to make the 500 straight. I had a very good time assembling this list in particular, specially because I discovered the work of “starvingartist” with his antiseptic video game system icon set, which I truly believe is one of the best icon sets I’ve reviewed on the blog ever. There are many other gems as well, as I featured the works of well known artists and regulars like Hans Christian Løberg, Booby Perux and Javier Ocasio. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned researching for these large lists, is that no matter your field, you can never consider yourself the best of your trade. You can feel deep inside that you are good, but never be so foolish to think there is no one better than yourself. It's so obvious that there is so many people creating stuff in this world that you will be surprised every time you take a peek at what’s happening out there. Get inspired, sit back, and enjoy!

Free incredible 3d software icon set!

3d Software is like a miracle in technology, it has changed the graphic design and film industries forever, and has empowered many other fields, like medicine and gaming. The weird part is, that many 3D applications have ugly icons. It seems as if the genius programmers ended up so exhausted, they didn’t want to invest a couple of hours more into the design of a cool icon for their apps.

We searched a lot and found that there are not many artists making 3d software dock icon sets or filetype icons. It is almost impossible to find free icons for powerful and popular packages like Mudbox and Modo, so we wanted to honor those great tools, giving to their users another possibility to revamp their looks and aid their creativity.

Hello to all! As you might already know, we have uploaded a new icon set for your delight in the community forum. Please remember that all these icons are free to anyone, you just have to register. We are not going to spam you, bill you, or send you bad voodoo in your mail. Last week, some weird guy said we were “ripping” off people with our free sets. Can you believe that? How on earth can you rip off somebody with something free?

I have a question. Is there any member that has accumulated so many point that could own all Iconshock free sets?

We at Iconshock have made a little bet. Nobody at the office thinks I can be able to list a hundred icons of any topic or style, for 5 straight weeks. And I’m beginning to endorse that thought too. There is so many weed in the internet, so many low quality sets, that I really don’t know how am I going to win. Nevertheless, faith is the last thing one can loose in this world right? So, I will endure in my quest to list 500 icon sets! The best thing is that you, my dear readers are the lucky ones, because regardless of the outcome, either I loose the bet or not, you are going to rejoice with the best icon sets in the world.

I really enjoyed making this list, since I have always thought that many high end applications like compositing and 3d modeling software have hideous icons that I always wanted to change, but didn’t have either the time or the will. Now that at last, the time and will is provided by my dear employers, I’ve managed to dig out the dirt and showcase the best of what’s around. Bon apetit!

At last, the people have decided! Power to the people as John Lennon said… here it is, the new, the fantastic, the ultra awesome….DARK NIGHT ICON SET! What I loved about Chris Nolan’s movie was it’s grandiloquence and sheer style. Young directors now days think that making a good movie is to hang the camera on the actors shoulder like a parrot, and inserting what ever C.G. tricks they can. The huge success of the Dark Night proves that audiences crave over good story lines and rich characters. I hope you enjoy the icons, and their whimsical details. The joker icon is my favorite.

By the way… Who else thinks Batman got ripped off at the oscars?

So, did you like the 100 folder list last week? We know you guys just can´t have enough, so we are giving away an awesome folder set just for our blog readers.

I know my posts are the best solution around for insomnia, so I want to give you another extra reason to stay tuned to my weekly nonsense. From now on, the icon set we will give away on the blog will be in a brand new, unissued style, totally departed from the Iconshock usual commercial and free stocks. This is a really special thing we are doing as payback to your support and comments. Each week we will feature a different designer from our staff, and each artist will have total aesthetic freedom in order to give each set a unique trademark.

I am preparing my brains and my soul for three straight days of loud Rock and Roll at the “Rock al Parque” festival, the biggest free rock festival in the world, so I will be back on Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Extra Extra! 100 best adobe icon sets on the net!

Didn’t like the icons Adobe proposed for their application since Suite version Cs3? Minimalism isn’t your style? I personally think the new icons are not what you would call beauty pageant runner ups, but its futile to say they are not poignant and effective. Despite general reluctance, everyone now knows that the little blue square is Photoshop, the red one is flash, and the green one is Dreamweaver; I think that is the whole point in good icon design, achieve remembrance and increase productivity with an accessible interface. Using color for analogy and process memorization always has been very effective in design and art throughout the ages. Just look at the Underground map in London to realize the power of color and simplicity.

Nevertheless, if you are disappointed with the new design, and think of it as rather lazy and just too simple, I have gathered for you the ultimate, definitive collection of Adobe icon sets in the net. There are so many styles that probably you will just get bored and go back to the default one. Delight on each of these skillful, genius attempts to reinvent the wheel. Surprisingly enough, these artists do pull it off.

And… mmm…. I hate to say it, but …again, this is biggest set on the entire Internet. Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Please tell me which one is your favorite so we can send something to the artist. A congratulation mail, a flower bouquet…a brand new Ferrari…

We talk about icons everyday. We search desperately for the next holy grail of icons. Some of us even make a living out of icons. Ok so, what in the world is an icon? The word “icon” comes from the Greek word “eikon” which means image. Before the consolidation of semiotics, the word “icon” referred mainly to the pictorial depictions of religious characters, but from quite some time now (a century or two) the word refers to a picture, a drawing or an image that represents by analogy or concretely, a concept, an idea, or a word. The term is much broader and deep if you get into semiotics and the meaning of symbols, but I will leave it there. I guess you clever readers get the point.

In our beloved digital world, were anything is as it seems, an icon is any graphic symbol that represents an option for interaction between a given software and the user. Brain shift to teaching-computers-to-grandma-mode, icons are those tiny pictures on a computer screen that we have to click in order to do anything. See that colored square thingy at the bottom left of your screen? See that “X” on the upper right corner of your screen? See the 700.000 little pictures on the Iconshock site?
