Audio interface connections with monitors?

I am looking to connect my new Novation Nio interface with new Rokit 6 monitors.

The monitors have 1/4 inch, xlr and rca connections, but unfortunately the audio interface only has RCA!!

So i need to connect output 1 & 2 to the single rca input on each monitor.

Can somebody please advise (maybe provide a link) as to which cables I should use to connect them up.

(i presume you can't connect the 1/4 inch headphone outs to the monitors??!)

Volume settings on back of monitors?

What should the volume be set to on the back of monitors?

I have a new pair of Rokit 6's. It appears to say in the instructions that the factory setting should be 6dbs level. I duno what this means really.

However, if I try to turn up the monitors volume to anywhere near this level they both hiss like crazy (nothing is plugged in to them).

The only setting they don't hiss at appears to be the lowest setting pretty much (about -30dbs)

Is this normal?

Every musical cliches has been played out one billion times.....
even in less popoluar 'underground musical genres

In rock it feels like everyone is copying and pasting what the beatles, sonic youth, fugazi, the cure did at least 20 years ago

And in the the electronic realm it isn't much different....either artists sound like aphex, venetian snares,brian eno or fennessz....etc...

For some people individuality isn't that important....but it is for me and it issomething I struggle with....finding something that genuinely sounds like nothing else....

So how do you try to make your music unique against the millions of other bedroom producers out there....What sounds and techniques that are different do you use?

Help loading sound bank, wtf is up

My sound banks all show they're .sy1 files, but when I try to load programs or sound banks on any of my software it need .fbx files. I didn't have this problem before.. everything worked without any issues but now that I've reformatted my computer and re-installed everything I'm stuck on this. Anything sound funny here? What is a .sy1 file? I googled and couldn't find much. (didn't look that hard).

Any idea would be appreciated.

Using a single midi controller for two programs

I'm relatively new to the whole electronic side of music (played in bands for 5-6 years). And recently, I've been doodling around with electronic music programs (abletone, fl studio and reason)...and I'm using a KORG MicroKONTROL.

And I'm wondering how to use that single MIDI controller to control ableton and reason. I can only use it for a single program at a time (when I use it for ableton, I will need to take it off the control device list in order to use it in reason). So I wanna know if there's a possible way to control both programs in a much efficient way other than taking it off the control device list each time.

What are the Psycho-Acoustics behin large spaces?

For most people, large amounts of reverb can produce a sense of detachment, insignificance, and even fear.

Can anyone postulate the psycho-acoustics of this?

Is it familiarity? Even the darkest metal or hip-hop track is still more "aggressive" than it is fear inducing or sinister.

Do coherent lyrics and familiar instruments automatically detract from a music's ability to provoke fear and isolation?

In other words, is ambient music supremely more impactful in these areas than rock, hip hop, or even dance tracks that try to do the same?

I just bought an Echo Mia Midi sound card. Now I plan to build a desktop computer from scratch based around this sound card. Does anyone have an Echo Mia Midi that they use with their desktops? If so, can you suggest a motherboard, processor and anything I else I need to buy so that it will be compatible with the Echo Mia Midi sound card? Also, I'm a newbie at building computers and have done it before. Is there anything that you can suggest before I get started?

I want to get to one soon, would be interested to hear if people have been to any recently and can recommend good ones I should plan on going to. I'd like somewhere to try out and buy new equipment, get to see some big names and even better if there were workshop-style things going on. Any opinions on BPM in England, Analogue to Digital in England, Frankfurt Musikmesse or others would be great to hear.

this is just curiousity. Simply for convenience sake(my entire cd collection is on my hard drive as wma files) i know mixx doesnt, i thnk deckadance doesnt, but do any dj prgrams support wma files?

and any more clarification on if you can run two midi applications at once EXAMPLE: virtual dj and a dj controller while using the bcr 2000 with ableton? would they conflict?

I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread regarding this topic yet. 3rd harmonic distortion can basically make a wimpy synth sound very prominent. It allows you to increase the volume of a given synth without incurring peaking. (You can also implement this technique concurrently on multiple synths - meaning potentially all synths in your tracks will sound a lot more prominent than they otherwise would have.)

I've provided an example to give you a SMALL idea of what 3rd harmonic distortion can do. Best way to see how this functions is by experimenting with it yourself.

The first 40 seconds of this track I'm working on is WITHOUT 3rd harmonic distortion, the remaining 40 seconds or so is the same segment with 3rd harmonic distortion on the 2 synths. (Scrub for best A/B comparison)
