January 15, 2012 – Despite a dominating week by a little known up and comer comics writer, the veterans of the comic book industry were victorious this week earning the pick of the week nod. Beyond that, it was a strong week that lead to some startling confessions and some Real World reminiscing amongst the iFanboy gang. Comics: 00:01:42 – It might have been predictable, but James Robinson and Darwyn Cooke earned the pick of the week with The Shade #4 00:11:32 – Mere inches kept Wolverine and The X-Men #4 from the pick, because Nick Bradshaw is awesome. Jason Aaron is pretty good too… 00:16:01 – …as evidenced on the milestone issue Wolverine #300, which Aaron continues to rule over Wolverine. Talksplode #49 – Ron Marz, writer of Witchblade, Artifacts, Shinku and More

December 15, 2011 - Ron Marz has written a lot of comics. Starting out at Marvel, his first work was on a Silver Surfer Annual. Eventually he moved on to DC to create Kyle Rayner, an all new Green Lantern. While on that run, he had to deal with controversy, including fans angry about replacing Hal Jordan (or H.E.A.T. as some were known), as well as the more serious charges of violence against women being depicted in comics by the famous “Women in Refrigerators” protest, as started by Gail Simone. Later, Ron moved down to Florida to take place in the Crossgen Comics experiment, which was a whole new way of making comics. We talk in detail about what that was like, and all the really different ways comics could be made in an office setting. More recently he moved to Top Cow, where he’s just completed a 70 issue run on Witchblade concluding in issue #150, out now. He still has Magdalena and Artifacts going strong, as well as Shinku, coming out from Image Comics. We talk about going from big 2 comics to working on creator owned projects later in his career instead of the beginning, as is often done now. Finally, we chat about Ron’s scripting process, and his use of layouts instead of a full script format, finishing with a bit of behind the scenes process talk. Music: Life on Mars David Bowie

Josh Flanagan has been working on iFanboy.com, talking, reviewing, and thinking about comics for over a decade, as well as writing and creating some of his own. The first episode deals with, appropriately, where to start if you want to write comics. (Hint: it involves writing.) GREAT Chaykin. 00:13:09 – Ron and Conor disagree over X-Men: Schism #5. And then things go off the rails… 00:18:18 – Chew #21 shows again that this is one of the best series out there. 00:21:26 – Yes, The Strange Talent of Luther Strode #1 is somewhat similar to Kick-Ass. 00:24:07 – Penguin: Pain and Prejudice #1 made Josh feel bad. But is that good? 00:25:24 – The most surprising thing this week? The Huntress #1 was really good. 00:26:41 – Steve Rogers said… what in Thunderbolts #164? 00:28:22 – Action Comics #2? Great story. Comics: 00:02:52 – The breakout hit of the new DC books for Ron was clearly Animal Man #1 from Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman 00:14:03 – Thoroughly enjoyed by Josh and Conor was Grant Morrison and Rags Morales on Action Comics #1 00:17:04 – As thoroughly enjoyed by all was Scott Snyder and Yanick Paquette on Swamp Thing #1 00:20:25 – Conor and Ron had a blast reading Justice League International #1 00:22:13 – Much ado about nothing in Batgirl #1 00:24:24 – A pleasant surprise for Conor and Ron was Detective Comics #1, not so much for Josh 00:26:57 – Conor really enjoyed Batwing #1, Ron wasn’t a big fan of the art 00:28:48 – Everyone was really intrigued by Stormwatch #1 and look forward to more 00:30:48 – Talk about fun comics? As a result, there were some problems with Josh's audio. We fixed the most glaring issues with Josh's mic after the first five minutes or so, but up until that point the audio quality is not what you would normally expect from our show. There are also a few random audio glitches here and there throughout the show (as a result of the afroementioned problems with Josh's mic) that we couldn't do anyting about. We apologize.

June 10, 2010 - Josh Flanagan, Tom Katers, and Jim Mroczkowski tuck in for a nice long discussion on Marvel's Invincible Iron Man. The first Omnibus covers the first 19 issues of the impressive run by writer Matt Fraction and artist Salvador Larroca. The discussion covers the characterization of Tony, as well as the inclusion of major storylines involving Pepper Potts, and her 'Rescue' armor, and the once maligned Maria Hill. Even Norman Osborn came out OK in this one. This story is certain to be essential Iron Man reading as the movies continue to total ever higher box office receipts, and the book does it without Robert Downey Jr.

These slightly animated adaptations of popular works have been much discussed by fans and discovered by non-fans alike. The latest entry is Iron Man: Extremis, adapting Warren Ellis and Adi Granov's classic story. We spoke with Ruwan Jayatilleke, a VP at Marvel, about Iron Man: Extremis, the various motion comics from Marvel, what the difference between a motion comic and animation is, as well as some speculation over future motion comics from Marvel for Captain America and Thor.
