I was spying on the Tree-trimmers to make sure they weren't going to ruin our shed, AND because they're truck is pretty neat. Oh the things I could do with that truck...

So some older Macbook's Chipsets don't support more than 2GB of RAM. I get that. But what happens when you put too much RAM in? The disc drive gets angry.

I really wish flash and acrobat were good. I really do. When they work, they're amazing. But for all they're awesomeness, they've caused as much strife as they've solved. I really think its because they tried to do too much to fast. It's incredibly hard to make things work well across browsers AND Operating systems. But if you start rolling out all sorts of new features that work well here or there, they end up being a liability.

Maybe its just because I'm a Mac user?

Also, Maureen is a NaNoWriMo Here to me. She's not out of the woods yet, but she's making amazing progress. Go Maureen!

Thinkpad

I didn't spend a lot of time with the tablet, but it was overall a good experience. The 3d/expose-ish desktop motif was cool, and overall things worked well. I had the web-browser die on me, and stopped doing anything until I rebooted the unit, so that's a bummer.

The tablet is a Lenovo Thinkpad, and it has the same matte plastic finish as my olllldddd IBM thinkpad laptop. I remember getting together with Wade and installing games and widgets on windows '95. It makes me kinda sad that I have no clue where it ended up.

So now I've got to decide what platform I want to develop for. I'm more used to Objective C and iOS (not to mention I have much more ready access to those devices), but the prospect of developing for a linux system is pretty cool too. Really I just need to buy a beagle board and start with that.

So I finally bit the bullet and got an iPhone. I'm still getting used to this having-data-everywhere thing. Still not sure if its a good or a bad thing.

My new glasses look pretty identical to my last pair, but the lenses are new and awesome. Let's see how long I can go before scratching them up...hopefully a long time.

The Challenger Center is pretty awesome, and I finally get to start volunteering there! As part of my orientation, I got a personal screening at their planetarium. The projector there is pretty great. Its not quite as daunting, but honestly I liked the experience more than the one I had at the MSI's IMAX. Also, the movie (which was a CG one about the origins of spaceflight) was pretty intense. It had me tearing up at a couple of points.

Dear Neil, I still don't understand football, but I'm happy to watch it with you.

The Chicago Swap-o-rama is a huge flea market with a crazy selection (as any good flea market should have). Some of this season't big items are animal hats and xbox skins. I picked up a firewire 800-400 adaptor, and lament passing up a nice pair of bluetooth headphones.

The Rock Bottom is much more appetizing than my drawing might suggest. Not to mention the great atmosphere. I forgot to mention tasty chicken wings.

So MailChimp is my favorite email newsletter service. There free account is great for what you get, and they're service is pretty great. They're interfaces are both clean and user friendly. In general its a joy to use they're services. There are a few things I don't like about replicating campaigns (for beginning users at least) but overall I love 'em. They even send you a shirt after your first big campaign.

Facebook needs some kind of sandbox dev environment, where you can make a fake user and page. Then you can have automatic bot friends with auto posting behavior. You could also simulate outages, deleted users, etc.

Sadly, the bots behavior would be indistinguishable from that of a normal user.
