Taking a moment

I would encourage you to take a moment today and remember all of our veterans.  Each and every one has sacrificed more than we will ever know.  We are blessed to live in a country that is rooted in freedom and bravery.

Daddy Compressed2

Happy Veteran’s Day Daddy.  I’m so proud that you served our country in Vietnam.  I love you!

(Please feel free to remember loved ones serving in the military by leaving an encouraging word in the comments section.)

Lost in Borders

You know how I’m always about six months to a year late on getting on board with what is new and hot in pop culture?

So there I was in Borders Bookstore trying to figure out where the latest book in the Sookie Stackhouse series would be located (fiction? fantasy? romance?) when an associate came to ask me if I needed help.  I was too embarrassed to admit that I wanted a romance vampire book and was this close to asking where I could find the extended works of Shakespeare when I decided the obligatory, “I’m just looking” would suffice for this nice young man.

I wander around the store for a good 30 minutes, refusing to ask where the book was located.  However, I didn’t mind at all.  Michael Buble’s new album was playing in the background and I was rather enjoying myself.

I spotted an “under $10″ sign and decided I should probably puruse those titles.  You never know what you might find.

Six books later, four people are crossed off my Christmas list.  SCORE!

But the pièce de résistance was an entire collection of Jane Austen.  For $7.99.  HELLO MR. DARCY!

I know what you are thinking.

BBC Mr. Darcy?

colinfirthdarcy

Or Kiera Knightly Mr. Darcy?

KNMD

Toe-MAY-toe…Toe-MAH-toe.  Truly.

So I drag away from the reduced items section, only to find myself in the music section.  And there’s Michael Buble starring at me as if to say, “Wouldn’t you like for me to croon to you in your car as you drive back to the office?  It will make the afternoon so much nicer!”

Knowing that my Sookie book (what am I supposed to call those books anyway?  Sookie?  Dead books?  Charlaine Harris books?) would be about $20, I refrained from taking Michael home.  Perhaps I’ll see him in a stocking in about six weeks?

Just as I’m about to give in and ask the high school kid where I can find Sookie Harris Vampire Series of Southern Romance, I spot a huge display of the books.  Right by the front door.  Adjacent to the Twilight display.

How in heaven’s name I didn’t see either display is beyond me.  After playing a Jedi mind trick on myself to refrain from an impulse purchase of sultry Jacob on a black shirt that would have certainly received jealous looks from innocent teeny boppers at next week’s opening of New Moon, I decided to just buy the last Sookie book.

And by the way…

Can I get that face on a t-shirt?  Or maybe a pillow case.  Is that weird?

Whatever…TEAM ERIC!

You know you love him.  Share it with the WORLD in the comment section!

An email to my co-workers

Dear Work People:

The sound you just heard from the break room was me gagging. I’m so sorry about that. I took the liberty of throwing out the majority of the Tupperware containers in the refrigerator.  The mold on on the inside hindered me from identifying the original contents.  There’s no way I will allow the person who belongs to that Tupperware take the monstrosity home and try to scrub away the filth.  I’m sorry.  It was ingrained in the plastic.

There was also a nice little surprise in a Pappacito’s styrofoam take-home box.  It was sealed tight in a plastic bag.  Why on earth I decided to open the bag and investigate is beyond me, but I did.  The smell that wafted from said bag was indescribable.  There were no words.  That is why I had to literally go primal and make a guttural noise.  Obviously, the bag was thrown in the trash.  Good luck janitor lady.

All this to say, if you are looking for your Tupperware from four months ago, it died a slow painful death and was laid to rest today.

You are welcome.

www.imdb.com

You know how you always go to the Internet Movie Database (imdb) to see what movie Jake Gyllenhall will be in next?  And then that reminds you that you haven’t seen Reese Witherspoon in a movie in a while, so you go to her page and you remember the cute dude that played her adorable husband in Sweet Home Alabama but you can’t remember his name, but you do know he reminds you of Ryan Gosling?  And you go to Ryan Goslings page and you feel sad that he and Rachel McAdams are no longer dating and you go to Rachel’s page to find out in the trivia section that she is dating…you guessed it…the adorable guy from Sweet Home Alabama. And you realize that the person who came up with IMDB is a freakin’ genius!

Then you look at your watch and it’s been like an hour.

I did that the other day and found out some startling news.

Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole Christmas–the Jim Carey version

cindylouwho

is none other than Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl!

Why this was surprising to me is a mystery.  Everyone knows that child actors often go through a rebellious phase.  I just find it interesting that sweet Cindy Lou Who, whom I loved in that movie with her quirky hair, beaver-esque two front teeth, adorable giggle and dogmatic love for the mean old Grinch would turn into a girl who always wears black, sings in a rock band, has a desperate need to hide her caked-on ebony eyeliner behind bangs that are always too long as she whines about being the new Queen Bee at school.

It’s nice to know that she still pays homage to her Whoville roots with that hat.  But mostly I just want to feed her a sandwich.

XoXo
