Recently a friend of mine asked me Whether he should choose Tumblr or Posterous for personal blogging.  Since I have been using both of these micro-blogging platform for quite sometime now. I don’t know why do people compare Posterous with Tumblr when both of these are totally .. Yes totally different services in my opinion. It’s like comparing a Desktop computer with a Television.

Tumblr has become a very popular blogging platform and has got hundreds and thousands of users. It allows you to post any kind of post like Text Post, Video Post, Audio Post etc. It’s an ideal platform for personal blogging. However Posterous on the other hand, in my opinion is built for Mobile Personal Blogging.

You even don’t need to have an account to start your blog with Posterous, Just send an email to their Email address and your blog would be up. However If you want to regularly post on your Blog then I would suggest to create an account for yourself and it’s Free too.

Posterous in my opinion is the easiest solution for blogging on the go, you just saw a great scene, Capture it with your Mobile Cam and send it via Email to your Posterous blog and let the World see it. And What I like most about Posterous that you can auto post to different online services including Tumblr.

For instance I have set auto posting for Facebook, Flickr, Youtube, and Tumblr, Whenever I post a picture to my posterous blog it’s automatically posted to my Facebook Account, Flickr and Tumblr too. So you see, you can keep all the communities happy at the same time with a single service ‘Posterous’ without needing to post your Photo manually to all of those services.

However that does not mean you should not create an account with Tumblr when you have posterous. Tumblr as i said is for posting any kind of stuff you like. It supports various kind of posts. It’s the micro-blogging in its best form. However I find Posterous more convenient to share something on the go. Like I mentioned above, Just capture an image on your Mobile and post it to all of the popular Online Social Networking sites with a single Email to Posterous. In short both of these are two different kind of services, both having their own value and advantages.

Google Chrome may be the fastest Web browser ever. However ironically it does not support its own Google Toolbar which is as of yet available for Firefox and Internet Explorer only. And Primarily I install the Google Toolbar to keep me notified of the emails  in my Gmail Inbox other than making Web search easier. Therefore I am more used to Firefox than Google Chrome which still does not support Google toolbar as i mentioned above.

However today i discovered an extension for Google Chrome Browser that would display a toolstrip showing unread Emails in your Gmail. Which i guess is pretty useful if you use Google Chrome as your primary Web browser and it would keep you informed of the unread Emails in your Inbox while you are surfing the Web.
