Oh hi. It has been awhile. A long while.

I have been spending a bit of time on Tumblr. Check it out here.

My big news is that I am moving to Sydney on Friday! Exciting!

As such it will be kind of hard to post Brisbane Street Fashion, so I'm not exactly sure what is going to happen with this here digital space.

I am going to be writing fashion related things for Bossy Beauty when I'm in Sydney Town, so check that out.

Blame Darren Aronofsky and Natalie “could-she-be-any-more-perfect” Portman, but ballet is having a bit of a moment right now. Models everywhere are sporting painfully tight topknots a la Centre Stage (sadly no sparkly red ballet shoes) and pretty pinks featured heavily on the Spring '11 runways.

Australian label Lover’s Autumn/Winter '11 collection, “A Dance for One,” also takes its cue from ballet. Despite this overtly feminine inspiration, the range leaves behind the brand’s trademark sweetness for a darker, more forward collection. Neutral pieces in luxe silk are given life through injections of spidery lace and unexpected volume. Season staples like a gorgeous camel coat and '70s inspired flares deserve a place in your wardrobe, as do each of the three black lace dresses featured in the collection. And there is nothing excessive about that at all.

The pallet is muted pastels and crisp whites, but what this collection lacks in punchy colour it makes up for in texture and daring silhouettes. If I see someone on the street wearing the tapered above-the-knee leather shorts, I will kiss them. To be honest, not all of the collection is 100% wearable. I am still trying to think of an occasion appropriate for a heavy knit cream onesie. If you have any ideas, let me know!

Still, overall it’s a pretty stellar collection and not hard to see why the likes of Ms Alexa Chung are major fans of the label. Thankfully for you (and your wardrobe) Lover can be found at Brisbane's The Loft. Get into it. Now.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival 2011

A little press release landed in my inbox today informing me that the dates for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival have been announced. Horray! (True enough I had already read this on Pedestrian.tv, but I appreciated the heads up anyway). Queensland has had a tough year, so I'm all for supporting our local designers and so should you. Guilt tactics are the best.

I am actually quite excited about this year's festival and look forward to seeing who will be showing. The call for designers is currently on and the line up will be announced Thursday 19th May. I shall keep you posted.

If you're keen on a bit of fashion show action, MBFF is running from Saturday 20th August to Friday 26th August at South Bank. Funtimes people, funtimes.

Enjoy two more smiling faces from the Rummage last weekend.

I hope to get out and about this weekend for more photos, but the weather is looking rather tragic. Will keep you posted.

In the meantime, if you're after another dose of Brisbane based sartorial awesomeness, check out my dear friend Rachel's blog i make. you wear it. She's making a dress every Saturday night for 20 weeks and trying to raise some moolah for Napcan, a charity that works at preventing child abuse in Australia. So checks it out and maybe even donate a spare dollar, it's a most worthy cause.

Rummaging

Last Sunday I sat under cover at King George Square while my pal Rachel sold her soul/old clothes at the Suitcase Rummage. Heaps of peeps turned up, despite the epic rain, and there were many fashionable souls around.

The average age of the rummagers seemed to be about 12 (it terrifies me how trendy these preteens are) and I feel weird asking under 15s to pose for photos, so I targeted a couple of the other sellers. In the next day or so I will put some of those photos up. Starting with this cool chickadee. The whole fake-flower-head-band thing is everywhere (with about 7 stalls selling them at the rummage) but I feel this lass adds a bit more edge to it with her witchy-goth-chic aesthetic. She's a bit blurry (my bad) but you get the idea.

And I like her rings.

And her boots.

But it's spring, a new season, and we're ready to take photos of many well dressed humans around town.

First cab off the rank is this treasure of a girl I saw coming out of the 711 in the Valley. Best dressed convenience store patron ever?

Saw this girl at Laneway lounging against a wall. Although her outift was a bit of a uniform at the festival (vintage high waisted denim shorts and Docs) the vintage shirt and brooch helped her stand out.

I stopped this guy as he was riding his bike through Paddington today. His look is so effortlessly cool. The light was a bit intense so some of the detail has blown, but his grey pants have a fine check and they go up into matching suspenders. Love.
