I’ve said it on many stages in the last year and it bears repeating- visibility alone is not a wedding publicity strategy. Yes, we’re seeing more features, more opportunities on platforms and more chances to be seen but if there’s one shift defining 2026 so far, it’s this- purposeful publicity requires better alignment. We can’t just be seen to be seen- otherwise, we’re just creating noise instead of momentum.

At OFD Consulting, we’ve spent years encouraging wedding professionals to think about PR differently. PR is not as a race for attention, but as a long-term tool for building authority, trust, and recognition within the industry. And in today’s landscape, that distinction matters more than ever.

Let Alignment be the Ultimate Goal

For years, wedding PR conversations centered around exposure. We talk about how many features one has landed and I often hear talk of # of followers gained. But we’re finding that chasing numbers just to have them becomes exhausting (and quickly). The fact is, not every publicity opportunity is meant for every brand and some of the flashiest features may not actually support your long-term goals.

It’s time to start asking yourself more strategic questions-

Who are you trying to reach—and why?

If this is the year you are amping up your wedding publicity, you want to make sure that it’s supporting your reputation, attracting the right audience and reinforcing the positioning you want. Otherwise, you run the risk of time wasted.

The Wedding Media Landscape Has Changed

The media world wedding professionals are navigating today looks very different than it did even a few years ago. If you attended our annual State of the Wedding Media talk in January, then that will not be a surprise to you. So what exactly are we speaking?

Editorial teams are leaner.
Submission volume is higher.
Publishing timelines are longer.
And audiences are consuming information differently.

How you are being seen has changed too. Today, authority is being built through:

podcast interviews

speaking engagements

contributor opportunities

educational content

strategic collaborations

and thought leadership across owned platforms

That means publicity is no longer confined to traditional submissions alone. And honestly? That’s not necessarily a bad thing. And dare I said- it can be a fun thing. One of my favorite examples is my own recent AMA on Reddit’s Big Budget Bride– totally outside the box for me (but also, a blast).

Reputation Is Carrying More Weight Than Ever

One thing that hasn’t changed is the importance of reputation. If anything, it’s become far more important with unhappy couples and vendors taking to TikTok, Reels and Reddit. The good news? If you’re consistent with your publicity, your credibility will follow you into these challenges and help amplify all the good your brand is doing.

What Strategic Wedding PR Looks Like in 2026

The most effective wedding publicity strategies we’re seeing right now tend to have a few things in common. First, they prioritize consistency over urgency. In the Collective, we prefer to work with members year-round with their submissions versus a quick, urgent high-profile celebration every. now and then. The most effective wedding brands are ones that build a steady press portfolio.

Diversifying PR efforts is also a top priority- we can’t rely on just one channel, especially with how much the media landscape continues to change. Wedding brands should be open to new-to-them opportunities, be it guesting on a podcast or speaking on a panel. With that, there is more of a focus on utilizing your own platforms intentionally. Coming up in our Speaker Track, we’re chatting about just that- looking at your web site, social channels, blog and newsletter with fresh eyes

Finally, there is an understanding that publicity is cumulative. Yes, we can celebrate the big wins and publication goals met along the way- but always with the mindset that each one layers upon the other. And of course, that the best work is in front of you.

Visibility Works Best When It Supports Something Bigger

At its best, PR should support:

your business goals

your positioning

your reputation

and the kind of work you want to attract long-term

Not just short-term attention. That’s why we continue encouraging wedding professionals to approach publicity with more clarity and less pressure to “be everywhere.”

A Final Thought

The wedding professionals building the strongest publicity plans right now are not necessarily the loudest or the ones you see everywhere all the time. Instead, they are the ones who show up consistently, which is where long-term momentum tends to happen.

Want to Explore This Further?

Many of these ideas are explored more deeply in Meghan Ely’s Amazon Author Page, including her recent book 20 Wedding PR Lessons for 2026, focused on strategic visibility, reputation, and publicity within the wedding industry.

Getting a wedding featured is a massive win in wedding PR, and for good reason. There’s nothing like seeing a wedding you poured yourself into land in a publication you love!

However, in our work with wedding pros, we’ve seen even the most stunning weddings get passed over because of entirely avoidable missteps. Wedding submissions have a lot of moving parts, and the difference between a feature and a rejection comes down to the details. Here are five mistakes we see all the time, and exactly what to do instead.

Mistake #1: Not Doing Your Research First

Before you pull a single image, you’ll want to do your homework. Take a close look at the details of the wedding, like the style, location, and overall feel, and ask yourself whether it’s the right fit for the publication you have in mind. Pitching the wrong publication wastes everyone’s time and can accidentally damage the reputation you’re working hard to build.

Get to Know the Publication’s Niche First

Every blog and magazine has a niche, whether that’s a specific aesthetic, geographic focus, or particular photography style. What works for one publication won’t necessarily work for another, and assuming your submission fits without verifying is a gamble you don’t want to take.

Do an Instagram Audit

One of the easiest gut-checks is pulling up the publication’s Instagram before doing anything else. What does their recent content look like? Does this wedding match the vibe they consistently feature? These questions should all have answers before you prep your wedding submission.

Match the Wedding to the Publication

Once you have a feel for a publication’s niche and aesthetic, hold the wedding up against it honestly. If the fit isn’t there, it’s okay to move on and find a publication where it is. Submitting to the right place from the start is how you can improve your odds of getting featured.

Destination I Do feature with Sunshower Weddings; photography by Alex Elise Photography

Mistake #2: Skipping Permissions

Getting permissions in place early is the foundation of a smooth wedding submissions process, and it’s easier than you might think. Before moving forward, you’ll want explicit buy-in from two key people: the photographer and the couple.

Start With the Photographer

The photographer holds the copyright to the images, so their sign-off is an essential part of the process. Keep them in the loop every step of the way and give them final approval over the image selections. Building that collaborative relationship with your photographer makes for a stronger working relationship overall.

Loop In the Couple Early

Even if your contract includes language about wedding submissions, it’s worth a conversation with the couple to reiterate your plans. Between all the paperwork and excitement of planning, that detail can easily get lost in the shuffle. Giving them a heads-up means they won’t be caught off guard if a publication reaches out, and it gives you the peace of mind of moving forward with their support.

Make Sure Everyone’s on the Same Page

While you’re aligning with the photographer and couple, it’s also worth confirming that no other vendor plans to submit the same wedding. A check-in ensures there are no exclusivity conflicts down the road.

Mistake #3: Submitting a Disorganized Gallery

When preparing wedding submissions, you want to make an editor’s job as easy as possible, and your gallery is a chance to do that. A well-organized, thoughtfully curated set of images signals to an editor that you’re professional, detail-oriented, and invested in the feature. That impression starts the moment they open your folder.

Create With Intention

A folder with hundreds of images and no structure is homework you’re assigning to the editor, and it likely won’t land well. Carefully cull your gallery so the images are ordered chronologically, following the natural flow of the day. Get rid of any duplicates and flag anything that isn’t sized correctly. The goal is a cohesive set that tells the story of the day from start to finish.

Put Your Best Images Up Front

Once your gallery is organized, take it one step further and place your 5-10 best images at the top of the folder. Give the editor a reason to keep scrolling. Think of these lead images as your first impression, as they go a long way in capturing an editor’s attention right out of the gate.

Deliver It Cleanly

With your gallery polished and ready, deliver it in an easy-to-access format. Dropbox or a similar file-sharing platform is the standard, keeping everything in one place without clogging anyone’s inbox.

Mistake #4: Not Following Wedding Submissions Guidelines

Publications put wedding submissions guidelines there for a reason, and following them closely helps an editor out before they’ve even read a word of your write-up. Every publication is different, and treating their guidelines as a starting point rather than a checklist is a common mistake we see in wedding submissions.

Read the Guidelines Page Thoroughly

A lot of publications have a dedicated guidelines page on their website that outlines what they’re looking for. This is where you’ll find specifics on image count, word count, any additional questionnaires they require, and their exclusivity policy. Read it thoroughly, then come back to it and read it again. These details matter, and luckily, they’re right there waiting for you.

Understand the Exclusivity Policy

Pay special attention to the exclusivity policy, which will tell you whether the publication wants first rights to feature the wedding and how long that exclusivity window lasts after publication. Keeping this top of mind protects you from accidentally creating a conflict that could put your wedding submissions (or your relationship with the publication) at risk.

Follow Up Properly

Once your submission is in, give the publication its full review period before following up. When you do reach out, stick to the appropriate channels, like the dedicated wedding submissions email or website portal. Following up professionally is one more way to show editors you’re someone they’ll want to work with again.

Style Me Pretty feature with Ashley Douglass Events; photography by Jenny Fu Studios

Mistake #5: Not Sharing the Feature

You did it! After you get the feature, what you do after it’s live matters more than you might think, both for your relationship with the publication and your own wedding publicity efforts.

Share It on Your Social Media

Though the publication will promote the feature on their end, sharing it on your social media goes a long way. Editors love to see that you’re excited about the pick-up, and it makes them more inclined to want to work with you. This closes the loop on all the hard work you put into the submission.

Tag Everyone Involved

When you share the feature, make sure you’re tagging all of the vendors involved, and always tag the photographer if you’re using their images. It’s a small gesture that shows professionalism and respect for the team that made the day happen.

Notify the Couple

Don’t forget to loop in the couple as well! They’ll be thrilled to see their wedding featured, and sharing the moment with them is a fantastic way to wrap up the experience on a high note.

The Formula for Successful Wedding Submissions

Wedding submissions should be in your wedding PR toolkit, and getting them right is absolutely within reach. The through line across all five of these mistakes is the same: do your research, communicate early, and bring the same care to the submission process that you bring to the wedding day itself.

Editors are looking for wedding pros who make their jobs easier, and every piece of this process is an opportunity to show them you’re that person. Put in the work on the front end, and you’ll set every submission up for the feature it deserves!

No matter how much the wedding industry evolves, in-person events are still one of the best ways to build real relationships. While social media and digital marketing continue changing how we market our businesses, one thing hasn’t shifted: vendor referrals are one of the top ways couples find their wedding day team.

That’s one of the reasons WIPA (Wedding Industry Professionals Association) has become such a valuable part of the industry. With Chapters across the country and a growing network of planners, venues, photographers, and other event professionals, WIPA events create a space where people can connect and support one another.

As many of you may know, I’ve personally enjoyed a 10+ year relationship with WIPA, serving on the National Board for much of that time. Now that I’m focused on being an active member/attendee, it’s been wonderful to watch the organization grow.

Lately, I’ve noticed more wedding pros attending their first WIPA event, along with many traveling between Chapters to expand their networks across the U.S. These gatherings have become a great opportunity to exchange ideas and spark opportunities around wedding publicity and wedding PR.

If you’re planning on attending a WIPA event or you’re thinking about joining your local chapter, a little preparation can go a long way. Below are a few of my favorite tips for making the most of your time at WIPA events and building industry relationships that last.

What Is WIPA?

Before heading to your first event, it helps to understand what WIPA is and why it’s become such a respected organization within the wedding industry.

Founded in 2008, WIPA was the first organization created specifically to support the needs of wedding professionals. Today, it’s grown to more than 3,000 members across 25+ Chapters.

At its core, WIPA’s mission is to elevate the wedding industry through education, collaboration, and ethical business practices. The organization focuses on creating meaningful opportunities for professionals to learn from one another, build strong referral networks, and continue improving the experience we provide to couples. For those of us focusing on wedding publicity, it’s also an incredible place to stay connected to trends and leaders shaping the industry.

My Personal Connection to WIPA

I’m fortunate to have been involved with WIPA for more than a decade. During that time, I spent nearly 10 years serving on the National Board, and I was also the Co-Founder of the Leadership Development Council, which focuses on mentoring and supporting chapter leaders across the organization.

These days, I’m happily an at-large member, meaning I get to attend different chapter events around the country. Sometimes I’m there as a speaker, sharing insights on wedding PR, and other times I’m attending as a fellow wedding pro who’s excited to network and learn something new.

What WIPA Events Are Typically Like

Most WIPA chapter events take place quarterly and combine both education and networking. Typically, you’ll find a guest speaker or panel alongside a meal or cocktail reception, so you can learn something new and connect with peers in a relaxed setting.

Though many events follow that format, Chapters also get creative. Some host larger gala-style gatherings, but others are experimenting with all-day masterminds and workshops that dive deeper into specific business topics.

Regardless of the format, the goal is the same: bringing wedding professionals together to build relationships, share knowledge, and strengthen the industry as a whole.

How Do I Know if WIPA Is the Right Fit for Me?

With so many industry groups available today, it’s normal to wonder whether WIPA is the right place to invest your time. The truth is, every wedding professional’s goals are a little different, so the best approach is to think about what you want to gain from joining.

Do Some Research First

Start by exploring your local WIPA chapter. Look at their social media and pay attention to the types of speakers and education they host. Does the community feel aligned with the type of professionals you want to collaborate with?

If possible, attend an event as a guest before joining. Most Chapters welcome non-members, and it’s the best way to get a feel for the room and the relationships forming.

Think About Your Goals

Before committing to any professional organization, it helps to ask yourself what would make the membership worthwhile. Are you hoping to build stronger vendor referral relationships? Or connect with peers who are also focused on growth?

For many wedding pros, WIPA events provide fantastic networking and education. And for those working toward opportunities like wedding publicity or wedding PR, the connections made within these rooms can be valuable.

Be Ready to Participate

Like any professional association, you’ll get the most out of WIPA when you actively participate. Attending events and staying engaged with the community is what ultimately turns membership into real opportunities.

Understanding the ROI of Networking

Like any professional investment, it’s fair to ask what kind of return you’ll see from attending WIPA events. Personally, I’ve found my ROI from WIPA to remain strong over the years, though it can vary depending on the chapter and how involved you are within the organization.

Some Chapters naturally have larger events or more active communities, and the value often grows the more consistently you attend. The relationships built through WIPA networking can lead to referrals, collaborations, and even opportunities tied to wedding publicity.

If you’re planning to attend (especially if travel and accommodations are involved!), it helps to do some research ahead of time. Check out the chapter’s Instagram or recent events to get a feel for attendance and the types of conversations happening in the room.

Then set a few simple goals before you arrive. Maybe you want to meet a handful of new pros or walk away with one actionable idea. Having a clear intention makes it much easier to evaluate the true ROI of attending WIPA events.

Tips for Making the Most of WIPA Events

There are plenty of things you can do to get the most out of WIPA events. Here are a few strategies I’ve found helpful over the years.

See Who’s Attending Ahead of Time

Before a WIPA event, I like to get a sense of who might be in the room. I’ll start by checking out the local chapter’s Board to see if I recognize any familiar faces. From there, I look at who’s engaging with the event announcements on Instagram or commenting on the chapter’s posts. Making a few connections in advance can make your first event feel much more welcoming.

Follow the Chapter on Social

Most of the pre-event activity for WIPA Chapters tends to happen on Instagram. Following the chapter account (and sometimes the Board members) helps you stay up to date on event details and speakers. It’s also a fun way to start recognizing names and brands before you meet in person.

Use an Attendee Guide to Prepare

Occasionally, a chapter will share an attendee list before the event. If that happens, I like to review it ahead of time and find a few people I’d love to meet. I’ve even used AI tools to organize names, find Instagram accounts, or create a quick list of people to connect with. It saves time later and helps you walk into the room with a plan.

Arrive On Time

Give yourself enough time to understand the logistics, like parking and venue layout, especially if it’s at a big property. I like arriving right when the event starts, so I can maximize my time connecting with people rather than rushing in halfway through.

Focus on Listening

The best networking conversations tend to happen when you focus more on listening than talking. Instead of leading with a polished pitch about your business, ask questions and get curious about the other person’s work. Authentic conversations lead to stronger relationships (and ultimately better referrals!).

Don’t Stress Too Much About the Dress Code

WIPA events sometimes include suggested dress codes, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident. When you’re relaxed in what you’re wearing, it’s much easier to show up as yourself and have genuine conversations.

Bring a Friend, But Don’t Stay Glued Together

Attending your first WIPA event can wrack up your nerves, but bringing a colleague or friend makes it easier. Just try not to spend the entire evening together. Use that comfort as a starting point, then branch out and meet new people!

Plan Time for Follow-Up

The networking doesn’t stop when the event ends. Set aside time the next day to follow people on social media, send an email, or respond to conversations you started. These small follow-ups are what turn a short introduction into a real professional relationship.

Reach Out to the Speaker

If the event includes a speaker and something they shared resonated with you, don’t hesitate to reach out afterward. Many speakers, including myself when I present at WIPA events, love hearing from attendees and continuing the conversation after things wrap up.

If You’re Coming From Out of Town

Those traveling to attend a WIPA event should give themselves a bit of extra breathing room in their schedule. Delays happen, with layovers in particular, so building in a buffer can help you arrive relaxed and ready to connect.

If you can, I recommend arriving the day before a WIPA event. This helps with travel logistics, but also creates an opportunity to maximize your time in the area. When I’m visiting another chapter, I try setting up coffee meetings, dinners, or catch-ups with clients and colleagues. This way, you turn one networking opportunity into several connections during the trip.

Attending as a Member vs. a Non-Member

One of the nice things about WIPA events is that non-members are welcome to attend. This is an excellent way to get a feel for your local chapter and see whether the community aligns with your goals.

That said, like most professional associations, you’ll get more out of WIPA when you’re a member and actively involved. Membership opens the door to additional educational resources and leadership opportunities that can strengthen your network and provide support for wedding PR.

WIPA Membership Options

WIPA has a couple of different membership levels depending on your experience and business structure.

Individual Membership

Designed for wedding professionals with three or more years of industry experience. This membership is tied to an individual rather than a company, so it’s a good fit for independent professionals or small business owners.

Corporate Membership

Held by a business rather than a single person, this option includes two employee memberships with the ability to add additional team members. It’s a popular choice for bigger companies that want multiple people involved.

Emerging Membership

Created for professionals with less than three years of industry experience, this membership helps newer wedding pros begin building relationships within the WIPA community as they grow.

No matter which membership level you choose, the real value comes from participation. Attending events and finding ways to get involved can make WIPA one of the most rewarding professional communities in our entire wedding industry.

Why So Many Wedding Pros Turn to WIPA

Networking has always been one of the most powerful ways to grow as a wedding professional. The conversations you have with fellow vendors, whether over cocktails at an event or during a chat between sessions, can turn into referrals, collaborations, and opportunities you never expected. That’s one of the reasons WIPA events are such an outstanding place for wedding pros to connect.

If you’ve been curious about the organization, consider checking out a WIPA event in your area or exploring the chapter closest to you. Whether you’re hoping to stay plugged into industry conversations or meet more great people in the business, WIPA is a wonderful community to experience firsthand!

But let’s be honest: wedding PR for planners isn’t always simple. You’re juggling design decisions, vendor collaboration, and timelines that don’t leave much room for extra projects. It’s easy for wedding publicity to slide down the list.

Fortunately, with a clear approach, press for wedding pros doesn’t have to feel overwhelming, and it can absolutely support your long-term growth. Let’s talk about how to do it right.

Define What Success Looks Like in Your Wedding PR Strategy

For planners, wedding publicity should directly support the clients you want to serve and the market you want to stand out in. Before you pitch a single editor, you’ll want to clarify what success looks like for you.

Are you trying to:

Raise your pricing and attract more profitable events?

Shift into luxury or multi-day celebrations?

Expand into destination work?

Become a thought leader among other planners?

Your answers matter because wedding PR is highly customizable. The path for a planner wanting to get published in consumer-facing outlets is very different from one focused on speaking opportunities.

Without clear goals, you’re submitting wherever you can, pitching broad topics, and hoping something sticks. But with defined goals, media coverage becomes a deliberate brand-building tool.

Build a Media Plan Around Influence

It’s easy to chase marquee names. A national feature feels impressive, and sometimes it is. But wedding publicity works best when it reaches the audience that hires you.

When crafting your media plan, think beyond prestige and focus on influence:

Is your ideal client reading this?

Are venues and photographers in your market paying attention to this outlet?

Does the editorial voice align with your style?

Does the publication regularly feature planners in a meaningful way?

For example, a hyper-local luxury publication may drive more qualified leads than a broad national mention. Media coverage that puts you in front of decision-makers (not just a large audience!) is what creates tangible ROI.

Is Your Website Ready for Wedding Publicity?

One of the biggest missed opportunities in wedding PR isn’t pitching. Really, it’s preparation.

Even the most thoughtful outreach can stall if an editor clicks to your website and finds outdated galleries, no visible press presence, or no easy way to reach you.

If you want to consistently get published, your website needs to function as a credibility hub.

Here’s what that means in practice.

1. Keep It Current

Planners evolve quickly. Your design style, venues, and market positioning all shift over time. If your website doesn’t reflect your most recent and elevated work, wedding publicity won’t reinforce the brand you’re trying to build.

Make quarterly updates part of your workflow. Add recent events, awards, new team members, and any recent media coverage. Editors want to feature planners who are active and relevant.

2. Make Media Contact Frictionless

A detailed client inquiry form is great for couples. It’s not so great for journalists.

Include a direct email address for press inquiries. Media opportunities move quickly, and accessibility matters.

3. Showcase Your Authority

An “As Seen In” section immediately signals credibility. Even a small row of logos builds social proof with both editors and potential clients.

Once you have several strong features, create a dedicated press page. Include:

Direct links to media coverage

A short, polished bio

A downloadable headshot

Notable achievements or speaking engagements

Wedding PR becomes significantly easier when your digital foundation supports it.

Lead the Wedding Submission Process

If you’re a planner juggling packed wedding weekends and client communication, it’s completely understandable that wedding PR ends up at the bottom of your to-do list.

But the truth is, wedding submissions are one of the most powerful forms of wedding publicity available to you.

Unlike other vendors, you oversee the full story of the event. You know the budget pivots, cultural elements, logistical wins, and emotional moments. That perspective is invaluable to editors and uniquely positions you to get published.

The key is building a system so wedding PR supports your workflow instead of competing with it.

Make Submission Readiness Part of Your Planning Process

Instead of treating media coverage as an afterthought, weave it into your client journey.

That might mean:

Including a media release clause in your contract

Setting expectations with couples about potential submissions

Gathering a complete vendor list before the wedding day

Confirming who will lead the submission process (planner or photographer)

Make wedding publicity part of your standard operating procedure so it feels less overwhelming.

Follow Editorial Guidelines Like It’s Your Job

Ignoring deadlines or formatting rules is one of the fastest ways to stall a submission.

Editors are juggling dozens of galleries at a time. If they ask for 100 images, send 100. If they request three sentences, don’t send five. Precision and professionalism matter in wedding PR.

Treat the editor like you would a high-end client. Responsiveness and thoroughness build trust, and trusted sources are the ones who get published again and again.

Pitch Yourself for Podcasts and Expert Features

Wedding PR isn’t limited to real wedding submissions. Podcast interviews and expert commentary are often more repeatable forms of wedding publicity (especially if you’re positioning yourself as a thought leader).

There are countless B2B podcasts for event pros, and B2C shows aimed at engaged couples. The opportunity? Getting in front of your exact audience without waiting for a wedding gallery to be approved.

Research With Intention

Start by finding shows whose listeners match your goals.

Are you:

Trying to attract couples?

Hoping to speak to other planners?

Building a reputation in the luxury space?

Interested in education and speaking?

Search keywords related to your expertise. Use hashtags like #weddingpodcast or #eventpro. Then pay attention to recurring themes and the types of guests being featured.

Most importantly, listen before you pitch.

Hosts can immediately tell when someone hasn’t done their homework. Knowing their tone and previously covered topics will help you craft a pitch that feels relevant instead of generic.

Pitch With Clarity (Not Volume)

When reaching out:

Introduce who you are and your niche

Offer 2–3 specific topic ideas

Make sure those topics haven’t been covered recently

Keep your email concise and respectful of their time

The goal of wedding PR is not to throw ideas at every show available. It’s to position yourself where your expertise genuinely adds value.

And don’t forget to follow up! Popular hosts receive a high volume of pitches, so a thoughtful nudge after a few weeks is more than okay.

Become the Planner the Media Comes Back To

If you really want wedding publicity to compound, focus on becoming a reliable expert.

After working on hundreds of wedding articles, one thing becomes clear: writers return to professionals who make their jobs easier.

Lead With Depth

Top-tier outlets want planners who can defend a perspective, expand on it, and speak from lived experience.

So before raising your hand for an opportunity, ask yourself: Can I talk about this for ten minutes without notes?

If the answer is yes, you’re likely the right fit.

Give Everything Upfront

Don’t hold back your best insights until you’re confirmed.

Strong wedding PR responses include:

Complete answers

Clear examples

All requested images

Proper credits

Context the first time around

Editors appreciate thoroughness. Consistently provide it so you become a trusted resource.

Use Wedding Trends to Stay Ahead of the Media

Trend coverage is one of the most predictable (and underutilized!) avenues in wedding PR.

Contrary to popular belief, wedding trend stories don’t appear out of nowhere. Most major trend articles are planned months in advance, often in late summer and early fall for Q4 and Q1 publication.

The planners who secure consistent media coverage are prepared for these.

Create a Living Trends Document

Start tracking:

Trends you’re seeing in inquiries

Design elements gaining momentum

Requests that are fading out

Cultural or economic shifts impacting weddings

This way, when an editor asks for insights on 2027 wedding trends, you’ll be ready.

Publish Trend Content on Your Owned Channels

If you want to increase your chances of getting published, don’t wait to be asked.

Consider:

Writing a yearly wedding trend forecast on your blog

Adding a “Trends We’re Watching” section to your site

Sharing thoughtful predictions on social media

Journalists use Google. Sharing your perspective on upcoming trends positions you as proactive and ahead of the curve.

And that’s the kind of expert media coverage favors.

Nail the Etiquette of Wedding PR

Strong wedding PR is all about how you show up behind the scenes. And unfortunately, one small misstep can stall things faster than you’d think.

Wedding Submission Etiquette

As a planner, collaboration is everything.

Do:

Confirm permission from both the couple and the photographer (they hold copyright!).

Be transparent with your vendor team. Only one person should lead the submission.

Follow editorial guidelines exactly (image counts, questionnaires, deadlines).

Respond quickly and thoroughly if an editor reaches out.

Promote the feature and tag vendors once it goes live.

Don’t:

Submit a wedding if another vendor is already doing so.

Ignore exclusivity rules.

Over-follow up or pressure editors for decisions.

Remember: Professionalism protects both your relationships and your chances of getting published.

Media Pitch Etiquette

Whether you’re pitching a writer or trying to land a podcast, precision matters in wedding publicity.

Do:

Keep pitches short and relevant.

Offer timely, fresh topic ideas.

Proofread everything.

Have your bio and headshot ready.

Don’t:

Pitch topics that were just covered.

Use AI-generated answers for media quotes.

Follow up more than once or twice.

Editors and hosts remember who makes their job easier. That’s how press for wedding pros turns into repeat opportunities.

Keep Your Wedding Publicity Expectations Grounded

Wedding PR is strategic, but that doesn’t mean it’s always a success. Not every submission will land, and that’s okay.

Media coverage builds long-term authority, brand awareness, and SEO value. The impact compounds over time, even if it doesn’t show up as an inquiry the next day.

Approach wedding PR with patience, and it can become one of the most powerful visibility tools in your business.

Don’t Forget to Promote Your Press

Getting published is only half of wedding PR. The real impact of wedding publicity happens after the feature goes live.

If you want media coverage to build authority (and not just feel good for a day), you need to actively leverage it.

Start with your website. A well-organized press page is essential if you want to continue getting published. Lead with your most notable and most recent features. And make sure your page is easy to update, whether that’s something you manage quarterly or outsource.

Next, promote strategically:

Share the feature across social media and tag the outlet and vendor team.

Add it to your email newsletter.

Include it in proposals or discovery call follow-ups.

Send a genuine thank-you note to the editor.

Wedding PR builds momentum when you amplify it.

Don’t forget accessibility: make sure editors can easily contact you for future wedding publicity opportunities. A dedicated press email (like press@yourcompany.com) signals professionalism and keeps opportunities organized.

Wedding PR That Supports Your Growth

Wedding publicity can be one of the smartest additions to your marketing mix. The opportunities are endless, but the key is choosing the strategies that align with your goals and bandwidth. You don’t have to do everything—just what makes sense for where you’re headed.

And if your plate is already full, bringing on a wedding publicist can help you maintain momentum and secure consistent media coverage without adding more to your to-do list.

Approached strategically, wedding PR becomes more than a feature. Instead, becomes long-term brand equity!

We’re so excited for the upcoming Venue Masterclass, with its incredible lineup of speakers designed for wedding venue owners and event pros! I loved speaking at last year’s conference, and I’m thrilled to see wedding industry speakers Loni, Dixie, Kate, and Lauren taking the stage this year, alongside our longtime friend and client Dana, who runs the event.

As one of the most impactful conferences for the venue business, The Venue Masterclass offers unmatched education, strategy, and networking for venue professionals at every stage.

This year’s theme, “Refine Your Process, Redefine the Experience,” couldn’t be more timely. The Venue Masterclass focuses on the operational side of running a wedding venue, helping owners and their teams become more efficient and customer-centric. From evolving marketing trends to automation and the latest technology shifts, each session is designed to make it easier for clients to book, plan, and communicate.

But to get the most from this experience, preparation matters. Knowing what to focus on before you arrive can help you choose the right sessions and walk away with takeaways you can quickly implement in your venue business.

Below, we’re sharing exactly what to know before attending The Venue Masterclass, so you can arrive ready to refine your process.

Plan Your Travel With Intention

Before heading to Houston for The Venue Masterclass, take a little extra care with travel logistics. This can make a big difference in how energized you feel once the conference begins. January travel can bring unpredictable weather, so it’s smart to build in buffer time for flights and transfers when possible.

Because The Venue Masterclass runs for a few days (January 12–14, 2026), consider arriving a day early to settle in and adjust to any time zone changes. It’s also a good idea to prep your team and clients before you leave. Let them know you’ll be less available, and set expectations around response times. Even a short absence from your venue business can feel smoother when communication is handled in advance.

Pack Smart for Full Days on Your Feet

Venue Masterclass days are full. Between sessions and networking, you’ll be on the move more than you expect. Comfortable shoes are a must, along with layers for indoor meeting spaces.

Beyond outfits, think about your conference toolkit. Whether you prefer digital notes or pen and paper, come prepared with a system that works for you. Portable chargers, a reusable water bottle, and snacks can also go a long way in keeping your energy up so you can stay engaged.

Being prepared allows you to focus less on logistics and more on learning.

Decide What “Worth It” Looks Like for Your Venue Business

After you finalize your travel details, it’s important to step back and define what you want to gain from the experience. This conference is an investment in your wedding venue and broader venue business, so having clarity ahead of time will help you make intentional decisions once you’re on-site.

Chat With Your Team

Don’t wait until you’re seated in the opening session to think about your goals. Take time before the conference to check in with yourself and your team about what would make The Venue Masterclass a success.

Education is often the first thing that comes to mind, but it’s only one part of the equation. Many venue owners find the greatest value comes from networking with other event pros and finding systems they can refine once they’re home.

Consider what matters most right now:

Improving internal processes at your wedding venue

Elevating the client experience

Building relationships with other venue owners and industry peers

Finding ideas you can implement right away

When your goals are clear, it becomes much easier to prioritize sessions during the conference.

Create a Loose Schedule (Even If You’re a Speaker)

Having a general outline for your days at Venue Masterclass can help you stay focused without feeling overbooked. Review the agenda ahead of time and flag the sessions most aligned with your goals.

If there are attendees, speakers, or sponsors you’d love to connect with, consider reaching out in advance to plan a quick introduction or coffee. Even a brief conversation can lead to long-term connections within the venue business.

Attending with a team? Coordinate schedules beforehand so everyone isn’t in the same room all day. After the conference, plan time to share insights and how each takeaway can support your wedding venue’s growth.

Build a Game Plan for Education and Networking

One of the biggest advantages of attending Venue Masterclass is the opportunity to connect beyond the classroom. While the education sessions are packed with value, the social events and informal gatherings often spark the most memorable conversations. Planning how you’ll approach these moments can help you get more out of the overall experience.

Don’t Skip the Social Side of Venue Masterclass

Industry events are where relationships really take shape. This year’s closing celebration is a standout moment to unwind and connect after several full days of learning. Let this be your chance to strengthen new relationships and leave the conference feeling energized rather than rushed.

Leave Room for Follow-Up and Implementation

The end of Venue Masterclass isn’t the finish line. Really, it’s the starting point for turning ideas into action. Thinking about follow-up before you even head home can help ensure that conversations and insights don’t fade once daily business takes over again.

Turn Conversations Into Real Connections

Before leaving Houston, block time on your calendar dedicated to follow-up. Whether it’s sending a thank-you message, connecting on LinkedIn, or scheduling a follow-up call, small steps go a long way in building meaningful professional relationships.

Avoid Letting Your Notes Collect Dust

Take time shortly after the conference (while you’re still in Houston!) to revisit your notes while everything is still fresh. Highlight ideas that feel actionable now versus those better suited for later planning. Even implementing one or two key takeaways can make a noticeable difference in your venue business.

Implement the Education While Momentum Is High

Education is only valuable if it’s applied. Venue Masterclass delivers a wealth of insights, but the real impact happens when those ideas are thoughtfully implemented back at your wedding venue. Building in time and structure for this step helps ensure the conference delivers long-term value.

Start With a Quick Post-Conference Review

Once you’re home, schedule a short debrief with yourself or your team. Reflect on what worked well, what you’d do differently next time, and which sessions or conversations had the most significant impact.

Writing these thoughts down creates a helpful reference when planning future conferences and prevents important lessons from being forgotten.

Prioritize Action Items From What You Learned

Instead of trying to implement everything at once, focus on what will move the needle right now. Identify:

One or two immediate action steps

Ideas worth sharing with your team

Resources to explore further

How you’ll measure success

By intentionally approaching implementation, you’ll extend the value of Venue Masterclass well beyond January.

Why Venue Masterclass Is Worth the Investment

At its core, Venue Masterclass is a hands-on, highly immersive experience designed to support real growth within the venue business. The education goes beyond theory, offering practical strategies that venue owners can apply immediately, while also delivering meaningful value for event pros who work closely with wedding venues.

No matter if you’re focused on improving operations at your wedding venue or strengthening your relationships across the industry, Venue Masterclass offers the education and long-term support to help you meet your goals. We can’t wait to see you there!

Wedding PR can do so much for photographers, helping you build authority and even boost your SEO through valuable backlinks. Getting your work featured gives couples and creative partners another reason to trust you, and keeps your name circulating in places that matter for bookings. It’s one of the few marketing strategies that continues to work for you long after the feature goes live.

Of course, photographers also face their own unique challenges with wedding publicity. Between busy shooting seasons, navigating permissions, and figuring out what editors actually want, PR can feel like a lot to take on. The good news? It becomes much easier with a clear plan. This guide walks you through how to get published as a wedding photographer in a way that feels manageable and strategic.

Set Clear Wedding PR Goals First

Before you dive into pitching or preparing submissions, it’s worth slowing down and defining exactly what you want from your wedding PR efforts. Photographers often jump straight to “I want to get published,” but the reason behind that goal matters as much as the feature itself.

Ask yourself a few simple questions:

Do I want to attract higher-budget couples who value my style?

Do I want more referrals from planners and venues?

Am I trying to break into a new market or niche?

Do I want to be seen as an educator or expert in the industry?

Each goal points you toward a different type of wedding publicity.

If your focus is reaching engaged couples, you’ll want to prioritize real wedding submissions and consumer-facing outlets. If you’re hoping to grow your presence within the industry, think podcasts, behind-the-scenes features, or interviews for business publications that speak to creative pros.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to media coverage, and your PR strategy should reflect what will move the needle for your business rather than what someone else is chasing.

Create a Simple (But Smart) Media Plan

Once you’re clear on your goals, sketch out a media plan that supports them. You don’t need spreadsheets or color-coded calendars here (unless that’s your thing!). You just need something to give you direction.

Start by finding outlets that reach the people you want to attract. Ask:

Does my ideal client read this publication?

Do planners, venues, or other referral partners spend time here?

Does this outlet accept submissions or expert commentary?

Does its editorial style align with my brand and work?

Landing a national placement like Vogue or The New York Times feels amazing, but local and niche publications often drive far more inquiries and referrals. The best PR wins are those that put you in front of the right audience, not the biggest audience.

Make Sure Your Website Is Media-Friendly

Even the strongest pitch can fall flat if an editor visits your website and can’t find what they need. A media-friendly website makes a huge difference in whether a journalist chooses to feature you or reach back out for more information.

Here are a few tips to make sure everything’s in place.

1. Keep your content current.

Make sure your website reflects your latest work, recent publications, awards, and anything else that supports your credibility. Editors want to see that you’re active and engaged in the industry.

2. Make it easy to contact you.

A general inquiry form isn’t enough. Journalists don’t have time to fill out long questionnaires meant for couples. Include a direct email, ideally something like press@yourphotography.com, so media contacts can reach you quickly.

3. Add an “As Seen In” section.

A small row of publication logos on your homepage can instantly communicate trust and social proof. It tells editors (and clients) that your work has already been recognized elsewhere.

4. Create a full Press Page.

Once you have a few solid features, build a dedicated page that houses your press portfolio. Include links, publication names, and the most impressive features at the top. This becomes an invaluable resource for anyone vetting your brand.

What to Do Next: Wedding PR Steps Photographers Can Take Now

Ready to build your wedding publicity foundation? Here are practical steps photographers can take to start nurturing media relationships and getting their work seen.

Start With Wedding Submissions

For photographers, real wedding submissions are the foundation of a strong wedding PR strategy. Your images already tell a complete visual story, so you’re in a unique position to lead the submission process.

Editors rely heavily on photography to decide whether a wedding is the right fit for their publication, and that gives you more influence than you may realize. To make the most of this, build a simple workflow that starts before the wedding day. Gather vendor lists early, encourage couples to share meaningful details, and add a quick “submission check” to your post-production process.

Real weddings are one of the most effective ways to get published and earn media coverage that stands the test of time.

Pitch Yourself for Podcasts

Podcasts are an excellent way for photographers to build authority and strengthen their wedding PR. Start by finding shows that align with your goals, whether that’s connecting with engaged couples or speaking to other creative pros. Search relevant keywords, browse recommended episodes, and listen to a few shows to make sure your expertise is a natural fit.

When you’re ready to pitch, keep it simple and follow each host’s submission guidelines. Introduce who you are and share a few topic ideas that highlight your unique perspective as a photographer. Short, thoughtful pitches stand out, and even a handful of well-targeted interviews can significantly boost your wedding publicity.

Establish Yourself as a Go-To Media Expert

Another strategic way to elevate your wedding PR is by positioning yourself as a trusted expert whom journalists can quote. Writers constantly look for credible sources who can speak to trends, and couples tend to trust vendors who appear in expert-driven articles.

Start by defining your niche beyond simply being a wedding photographer. Maybe you specialize in destination weddings, elopements, bold editorial portraits, or inclusive celebrations. Clear expertise gives you a stronger angle and makes your wedding publicity efforts more effective.

To get quoted more often, build a visible reputation that proves you know your craft. Keep your website updated with fresh content and share thoughtful insights on social media.

When you’re ready to pitch, keep it short and focused. And if a writer reaches out, respond quickly. Fast, helpful answers make you the kind of source journalists return to, leading to more consistent media coverage and ongoing press for wedding pros.

Promote Your Press Wins

Securing media coverage is only half the work. How you share and leverage that coverage is what turns a feature into long-term visibility and SEO value. Here’s how to make the most of every feature.

Be Strategic In How You Share

Once you get published, make it a point to amplify the win across your social channels. Tag the publication, thank the writer, and celebrate the vendor team involved. Remember: potential clients and planners love social proof, and showcasing real press wins positions you as a well-loved photographer.

Add Press Wins to Your Website

Remember to update the aforementioned Press Page on your website with each piece. Be sure to keep your most recent placements front and center. Use high-quality logos, test all links, and make sure your press page is easy to navigate, as this is often one of the first places journalists check when considering you as a source.

Keep Your Press Expectations Grounded

It’s important to remember that wedding PR is a long game. Not every pitch will be picked up, and media relationships are built over months, not days. Press won’t always translate into immediate bookings, but it will build authority and long-term brand recognition. Stay consistent, stay patient, and treat every editor interaction as an opportunity to establish trust!

Wedding PR That Elevates Your Brand for the Long Run

Wedding publicity can be one of the most valuable additions to a photographer’s marketing strategy. Just remember: You don’t need to do everything at once. Instead, stay consistent with the approaches that feel sustainable and impactful for your business.

And if you ever find your plate getting a little too full, you don’t have to navigate it alone. A wedding publicist can help streamline submissions and build media relationships that keep your work in the spotlight.

With a little strategy and a commitment to showing up, wedding PR becomes a fantastic tool for positioning your photography brand as one of the most trusted and sought-after in the industry!

When it comes to standing out in a competitive market, wedding PR can be one of the most powerful tools in a venue’s marketing toolkit. Great wedding publicity can instantly elevate your venue’s reputation, strengthen your SEO, and open doors to new relationships within the industry.

But while the benefits of press are clear, getting consistent media coverage as a wedding venue comes with its own set of challenges. Unlike other wedding pros, venues often have to balance showcasing their space with telling a compelling story that appeals to editors and audiences alike.

From real wedding features to industry awards, the right wedding publicity strategy can help your venue earn the kind of press that drives both visibility and bookings. Below, I’m breaking down how to get published as a wedding venue and make every feature work double-duty for your brand’s credibility.

Venue: Mankin Mansion / Photography: Morgan Renee Photography

Set Your Wedding PR Goals

Before diving into wedding publicity opportunities, take a step back and define what you actually want from wedding PR. Are you hoping to attract higher-end clients? Build more awareness in your local market? Or strengthen your reputation so other pros refer you more often?

The truth is, press for wedding pros isn’t one-size-fits-all. Your approach should be shaped by your goals. A venue focused on positioning itself as a luxury destination will pursue different media coverage than one hoping to boost weekday bookings or highlight inclusive events.

When you’re clear about what success looks like, it becomes much easier to find opportunities that will move the needle.

Create a Media Plan That Fits Your Venue

Once your wedding PR goals are in place, the next step is to craft a targeted media plan. Think of this as your roadmap to getting published and earning meaningful media coverage.

You’ll want to begin by aligning your PR efforts with your audience. If your ideal couples are reading wedding blogs and local magazines, focus your outreach there. Submit real weddings, pitch story ideas to writers who cover wedding trends, and collaborate with planners who frequently get featured.

If your goal is to expand your industry presence and attract referrals, you may want to look for opportunities that speak to your peers, like podcast interviews, styled shoots, or expert roundups for wedding business outlets.

When building your list of target publications, ask yourself:

Does my ideal client or referral partner read this outlet?

Does the publication accept venue submissions or expert commentary?

Does its editorial style align with my venue’s brand and strengths?

Remember: major wins like Vogue or The New York Times are great for credibility, but they won’t necessarily reach your core audience (especially if you’re focused on local bookings). The best wedding publicity for venues comes from placements that connect you directly with your ideal couples and partners.

Start With Real Wedding Submissions

Real wedding features are the foundation of strong wedding PR. Beyond showcasing your property at its best, these features create long-term visibility and drive SEO through backlinks and referral traffic.

It’s a common misconception that only photographers can get published through real wedding submissions. In truth, many venues successfully lead this process. You simply need to collaborate closely with the photographer to secure permission for image use and align on where and when the feature is submitted. Done thoughtfully, it’s a win for everyone: your venue gains media coverage, your creative partners gain exposure, and your couple gets the joy of reliving their wedding in print or online.

How to Choose Where to Submit

Start by finding publications that align with your venue’s goals and audience. It’s tempting to dream big (and by all means, do!), but strategic alignment matters more than name recognition.

A feature in a well-read local publication often does far more for your brand than a fleeting mention in a national magazine. Aim for outlets where your next booking is likely to come from, whether that’s a regional blog or a niche style platform.

What Editors Look For

Editors receive hundreds of submissions each month, so a little preparation goes a long way. The most successful submissions typically include:

A compelling story: How did the couple meet? What made their day unique? Editors love emotion, personality, and details.

High-quality, diverse imagery: Include everything from venue shots and décor details to emotional moments and guest interactions.

A complete vendor list: Always credit your creative partners with URLs. It builds goodwill and boosts everyone’s SEO.

Proper permissions: Ensure your couple and photographer are comfortable with the submission.

With thoughtful planning and a collaborative spirit, getting published can become a consistent part of your wedding PR strategy.

Venue: Mankin Mansion / Photography: Nikki Santerre Photography

Diversify Your Wedding Publicity Opportunities

While real wedding submissions are the cornerstone of wedding PR, they’re just one part of a well-rounded wedding publicity strategy. The media landscape is constantly evolving, and venues that stay visible are the ones embracing a mix of traditional and new opportunities to get published.

Today’s editors, podcasters, and local journalists are hungry for fresh voices and unique stories. That’s great news for venues, as you’re sitting on a goldmine of content—love stories, design inspiration, and event expertise that’s both visual and newsworthy. Here are a few ways to expand your visibility.

1. Pitch Yourself for Podcasts

Podcasts have quickly become one of the most engaging ways to share your expertise and personality. They allow you to connect with listeners in a deeper way, especially if your ideal clients or referral partners tune in.

Look for podcasts that align with your brand. These could be wedding industry shows that speak to creative pros or local lifestyle podcasts that feature community stories. Craft a short, compelling pitch that outlines what makes your venue unique or what insights you can offer (think “behind the scenes of hosting 100 weddings a year” or “how to plan an unforgettable guest experience”).

The best part? Each podcast episode you appear on lives online indefinitely, often with a backlink to your website (another win for your SEO and wedding PR footprint!).

2. Apply for Industry Awards

Awards are an underrated powerhouse of wedding publicity. They offer third-party validation and add an instant layer of credibility that prospective couples trust. Whether it’s The Knot Best of Weddings, Zola’s Vendor Awards, or local recognitions like Best of [Your City] Weddings, these accolades boost your reputation.

Avoid limiting yourself to strictly wedding awards, also. Broaden your reach with small business or design-based honors, like “Top 40 Under 40” or local chamber recognitions. These credentials can improve your image while opening up new PR angles for storytelling.

3. Get Featured on “Best Of” and “Top Venue” Lists

Online “best of” lists and roundups are SEO gold. They’re a blend of media coverage and social proof, helping both search engines and couples see your venue as a trusted choice.

Make a list of outlets that publish regional or national venue roundups. For example, “Best Outdoor Wedding Venues in [State]” or “Most Romantic Spots to Get Married Near [City].” Submit your venue or reach out to the editors behind these lists with professional imagery and a short pitch highlighting what makes your property special.

These articles often rank highly in Google searches, meaning a single feature can drive steady traffic to your site for months (or even years!).

4. Don’t Forget Traditional Local Media

Though we live in a digital-first world, local news outlets, magazines, and TV segments can still deliver incredible wedding publicity results. A human-interest story about a unique couple or your involvement in community events can easily catch a local journalist’s attention.

Think beyond the wedding itself. Maybe your venue is hosting charity galas, offering sustainable upgrades, or creating innovative packages for micro-weddings. Local media love stories that blend emotion with relevance.

To start, draft a short pitch and send it directly to lifestyle reporters or editors at your regional paper or station. The coverage you gain often includes a link to your website, reaching couples in your market while improving your SEO.

Establish Yourself as a Media Expert

One of the smartest ways to elevate your wedding PR is by positioning yourself as a trusted media expert. When journalists and editors see you as a credible source, you open the door to media coverage that builds authority for your brand.

Start by defining your niche. What’s your area of expertise beyond being a wedding venue? Maybe you’re known for destination-style weddings, historic properties, or inclusive celebrations. A clear focus helps writers understand where you fit into their stories and makes you more quotable.

From there, build credibility before you pitch. Regularly share helpful insights on your blog or social media and collaborate on industry content. This way, when a journalist researches you, your expertise is already evident.

Then, find writers and editors who cover weddings or lifestyle topics and reach out with a thoughtful introduction. Offer useful commentary (rather than generic advice) and always be quick to respond when they reach out.

Promote Your Press Wins

Securing wedding publicity is only half the equation. The real magic happens when you share it. Every time your venue gets published, that feature becomes a strong piece of content that keeps working for you long after it goes live.

Be sure to celebrate each feature across your social channels. Tag the publication, thank the editor or journalist, and recognize your vendor team. A simple acknowledgment can go a long way in strengthening relationships and opening the door for future media coverage.

Don’t stop at social media. Create a dedicated Press Page on your website to showcase your features. Keep it current by updating it quarterly and removing anything outdated. Include recognizable publication logos, link directly to each feature, and set up a dedicated media contact email like press@yourvenue.com to make inquiries simple.

Finally, remember to manage your press expectations. Wedding PR takes time. Not every pitch will get picked up, and that’s okay! Be patient and focus on consistency rather than instant results.

Wedding PR That Builds Legacy, Not Just Buzz

Wedding publicity makes for an incredible addition to your venue’s marketing mix, especially as you make plans for a busy booking season. The key is simply choosing wedding PR strategies that align with your goals, audience, and available bandwidth.

That might mean starting small with a few well-chosen submissions, or going all in with a more comprehensive media plan. Whatever your path, consistency and clarity will always win over volume.

And if your plate already feels full, you don’t have to do it alone. A seasoned wedding publicist can help you find the right opportunities, manage submissions, and build lasting media relationships, so you can focus on what you do best: creating unforgettable wedding experiences.

With the right strategy, getting published is the next step toward positioning your venue as one of the most sought-after names in the market!

I’m thrilled to share my recent feature on D’Arcy Benincosa’s Play It Brave podcast, where we sat down for a candid conversation about publicity, visibility, and what it really takes to stand out in today’s wedding industry.

I ran across D’Arcy’s podcast some time ago and after giving it a good listen, just knew we could have a candid and timely chat about getting published. Little did I know, I was one of the first guests to ever be accepted from a blind pitch (a true honor!).

Key Takeaways from the Episode

D’Arcy and I covered a wide range of topics during our discussion, including:

Why publicity matters now more than ever in an era where couples are looking for trust and credibility before booking vendors.

How to get published without feeling overwhelmed — from smart submission strategies to managing editor relationships.

Visibility beyond press mentions — the role of social proof, speaking engagements, and networking in building long-term authority.

The mindset shift pros need to move from “chasing features” to building a sustainable publicity plan.

As I shared with D’Arcy, my goal is always to equip wedding pros with tools that position them as experts, while making publicity feel less intimidating and more achievable.

Why Podcast Features Matter

Podcasts like Play It Brave offer such a powerful platform and can be some of the most manageable education during the busy wedding season. D’Arcy and I both have extensive experience in pitching submissions and it was great to be able to come together from our own point of views to discuss. Once you dive in, you’ll find the content to be meaty so you may want to consider breaking it down into bite-size pieces.

More Features + Resources

If you’d like to explore additional publicity insights, you can also find me featured in:

My guest blog on SEO + Wedding PR with Sara Does SEO

Special Events Magazine – Author Page

Wedding Industry Speakers Directory

As always, I’m deeply appreciative to D’Arcy as well as those who bring me in to educate on my favorite topic.
Looking to pitch yourself to a wedding industry podcast? Here are a few of my quick tips-

Listen, then pitch.

Before moving forward with your list, be sure to tune into the podcasts to educate yourself prior to pitching. Many hosts want to invite listeners to their show, so they may ask about your favorite episode, and you’ll want to be prepared to answer!

It’s wise to curate a list of topic ideas as well – none of which have been covered on the show within the last year. Lean into your unique expertise and offer one-of-a-kind ideas to help your pitch stand out from the rest.

Follow the host’s pitching guidelines.

Most podcast hosts outline how to pitch and what to include in your submission, so follow their instructions to the T. Many prefer to accept pitches through an online form, requesting details like who you are, what you do, and why you’d be a great guest. Keep it straightforward — draft a few brief lines about your proposed topics and how they’ll provide value to listeners.

If a podcast doesn’t have a submission form, you can typically send your pitch through an email instead. Be respectful of the host’s time and keep it short, covering the same details you’d share in a form – who you are, what you do, and why you’re an excellent fit for their show. If they request additional information, make sure to include it!

Remember to follow up.

Popular podcast hosts are often bombarded with pitches on a daily basis, so yours may go unanswered. If you haven’t heard back after a few weeks, don’t hesitate to follow up and offer additional information to help them. Always be sure to thank them for their consideration!

About the Play It Brave Podcast

In today’s crowded wedding industry, standing out takes more than just beautiful work. Now, it takes visibility. Enter, wedding PR. From getting published in top blogs to securing podcast interviews, effective publicity builds your authority, boosts your reputation, and helps you earn valuable backlinks that improve your SEO.

But once you understand the value of press for wedding pros, the next big question comes up: Should you hire a wedding publicist? And if the answer is yes, how do you know which one is right for you?

Choosing the right partner can make all the difference in getting published consistently and building lasting media relationships. Below, we’ll walk through the signs it’s time to hire a publicist and what to look for when making your decision.

When to Know It’s Time to Hire a Wedding Publicist

So how do you know when it’s the right time to bring in a wedding publicist? For many wedding pros, the decision comes down to two common challenges: lack of time and lack of expertise.

You don’t have the time to be consistent

PR takes consistent effort—pitching, following up, maintaining an editorial calendar, and building relationships with editors. If you’re already managing clients and a growing business, you may find yourself missing out on great wedding publicity opportunities simply because you can’t keep up. Even when you have a high-profile wedding that’s worthy of publication, it’s easy for those opportunities to slip by without dedicated attention.

It’s not your skill set

PR is a specialized discipline. Just as you might outsource accounting to free up energy for client work, many pros find it makes sense to outsource PR to someone who lives and breathes media. A wedding publicist brings expertise in crafting pitches, aligning your story with editorial needs, and knowing exactly where your work will have the most impact.

You’re entering a new market or level

Publicists are often brought in when a wedding pro wants to uplevel their brand. Whether you’re expanding into luxury weddings or breaking into destination markets, a wedding publicist can create a visibility strategy that helps you reach the right audience.

You’re celebrating a rebrand or milestone

A rebrand, business anniversary, or other major milestone is a natural fit for PR support. These are prime opportunities to build credibility and secure media coverage that amplifies your message.

If you find yourself with great work but little visibility, or if you’re ready to step into a new stage of your business, it may be the perfect time to bring on a wedding publicist.

What a Wedding Publicist Can Do for You

Hiring a wedding publicist isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience. Every publicist brings their own specialties and service models, which is why it’s so important to understand what they actually do before deciding who’s right for you.

Different service models

Some publicists work on retainer, offering ongoing strategy and support with frequent check-ins. Others provide consulting services for those who want to DIY with expert guidance.

At OFD Collective, for example, our membership model focuses on editorial opportunities, real wedding submissions, and podcast features. We’re an excellent fit for pros who want consistent visibility without a large monthly retainer.

Areas of specialization

Not all publicists operate the same way. Some focus exclusively on wedding PR, while others branch out into industries like lifestyle, real estate, or interior design.

Media channels also differ. One publicist may specialize in online features and podcasts, while another might focus on television or print magazines. The key is to align their expertise with where you want to be seen.

Core responsibilities

At the heart of their work, most wedding publicists focus on media relations and strategy. That might include:

Pitching real weddings, styled shoots, and expert commentary.

Crafting story angles that resonate with editors.

Timing pitches around seasonal trends and editorial calendars.

Maintaining relationships with media outlets and journalists.

Supporting reputation management, ensuring your brand is represented positively in both good times and challenging moments.

Matching needs to services

Ultimately, the most important question to ask is: What do I need help with most? For some, it’s consistent media coverage to get published in industry outlets. For others, it’s the strategy and execution behind the scenes. Think identifying the right platforms, aligning PR goals with business goals, and managing the ongoing follow-up that ensures press opportunities don’t get lost.

The right wedding publicist will combine strategy with execution, helping you not only get published but also stay visible in the places that matter most to your ideal clients.

What to Look For in a Wedding Publicist

Not all publicists are created equal, and the right fit for one wedding pro may not be the same for another. When you’re deciding who to trust with your wedding PR, here are the key factors to consider.

1. Industry experience

Look for someone who understands the wedding industry inside and out. A background in events or venues can be especially valuable because it gives the publicist first-hand knowledge of how weddings work and what editors are looking for. The more they understand your world, the more effectively they can pitch your expertise.

2. Wedding PR specialization

Ask whether wedding publicity is their primary focus. Some publicists work across multiple industries, while others dedicate their entire practice to weddings. Since the wedding media landscape has its own trends, seasonal cycles, and editorial styles, a specialist will usually have stronger relationships and a sharper understanding of how to get you published.

3. Proven press portfolio

A track record speaks louder than promises. Review the publicist’s most recent placements, ideally from the last 6–12 months. Wedding media moves quickly, so you’ll want to see proof they’re still active and effective in today’s market. Make sure any coverage they share is work they directly influenced, not just “mentions” where they had no role.

4. Relationship structure

How do they work with clients? Some offer retainers with ongoing strategy calls, others provide coaching with monthly check-ins, and some (like OFD Collective) operate as a membership with access to editorial opportunities and office hours. Think about which model best fits your needs and budget.

5. Process & communication

PR is an ongoing process, so communication matters. Ask how they report results, how often they provide updates, and whether their workflow aligns with how you like to operate. Clear reporting and consistent touchpoints will keep you informed about your progress.

6. Personality fit

Finally, remember that PR is a partnership. Beyond skills and strategy, you’ll want to feel comfortable with your wedding publicist. Do they take time to get to know your brand and goals? Do you feel your communication styles align? Just like choosing your own wedding clients, the relationship needs to be a good fit for it to succeed.

Choosing a publicist is about finding someone who understands your vision, has the relationships to make it happen, and feels like the right partner for your business.

Myths About Hiring a Wedding Publicist

Before investing in wedding PR, it’s important to clear up some common misconceptions. Many wedding pros hesitate to hire a wedding publicist because of unrealistic expectations or myths about what PR can do. Let’s set the record straight.

Myth 1: PR is the same as advertising or marketing

While PR works closely with both, it’s not the same thing. Wedding publicity is all about earned media—features, interviews, and mentions you don’t pay for. Advertising guarantees placement because you’re buying the space. PR, on the other hand, builds credibility and trust through authentic media coverage that editors and writers choose to share.

Myth 2: You’ll get published overnight

PR isn’t an instant win; it’s a long-term strategy. Editors may take weeks to review your submission, and even once accepted, it can take months before a feature or podcast goes live. A wedding publicist helps you build consistent visibility over time, but patience is part of the process.

Myth 3: Publicists control the outcome

Even the most connected publicist can’t guarantee you’ll be in your dream publication tomorrow. What they can do is craft compelling pitches, maintain strong editorial relationships, and position your brand for the best chance at success. Think of PR as influence and expertise, not control.

The Long-Term Value of Wedding PR

Hiring a wedding publicist is a big decision, but for many wedding pros, it’s the missing piece that unlocks greater visibility and credibility. The right partner can help you earn press that boosts your reputation and free up time so you can focus on growing your business.

Remember, wedding PR is a long game built on relationships and persistence. When you find the right publicist for your brand, the investment pays off in long-lasting authority and the kind of publicity that keeps your business top of mind.

Choosing a wedding publicist can help you build a foundation for sustainable growth and a stronger presence in the wedding industry. With the right match, you’ll be glad you made the leap!

Last updated: August 29, 2025

Every now and then, the wedding industry lives on the national stage for more than a news cycle. In nearly 17 years of wedding PR, I’ve only seen it a handful of times: William & Kate, Harry & Meghan, the pandemic’s impact on our industry—and now, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

What’s exciting? This isn’t a one-week spike. It’s a sustained story with pop culture significance, and that makes it a rare opportunity for wedding pros who are prepared to enjoy an opportunity for visibility.

Why this Matters Right Now for Wedding PR

Celebrity weddings always spark some semblance of coverage. Taylor plus Travis touches upon music, sports, fashion, business, and internet culture—so multiple desks are watching the same story and greenlighting ideas over weeks, not just hours.

Pair that with the collective appetite for happy news, and you have conditions where lifestyle, business, and trend editors want informed commentary from people who do this work every day (that’s you!).

The fact is this- if you can be fast, clear, and credible, you have a real shot at building authority, enhancing your press portfolio and building long-term media relationships—long after the wedding celebration has come and gone.

What the Next Few Weeks of Media Coverage Will Look Like

At the time of this publish date, we’re in what I’d call the “initial fervor era”—the sprint where editors dissect the proposal and the first images. You’ll want to expect quick-turn questions about cost ranges, how to identify details, and how couples can interpret the look without a celebrity budget. Turnarounds are measured in hours, not days which means you may need to prioritize your to do list to take advantage of the opportunities happening right now.

That initial sprint gives way to speculation: date, location, privacy level, who might be on the creative team, and how security and logistics scale for an A-list event. This is where category experts shine. If you have true expertise—destination logistics, large-scale florals, lighting and power, security, legal considerations, sound and stage design—leverage your educated perspective (just remember to stay in your lane!).

Simultaneously, we’ll see coverage on industry impact. Editors will ask whether inquiries tick up, which aesthetics couples try to emulate, how budgets shift, and what trends feel adoptable versus aspirational.

If the event stays private, the conversation moves to “signs it’s happening”—permitting, production trucks, hotel buyouts—and what those clues tend to mean. Should verified details surface, the microscope turns to florals, fashion, music, menu, and the behind-the-scenes realities: NDAs, vendor vetting, load-in schedules, refrigeration, power needs, transportation plans, and so on. Finally, if and when assets drop, expect a second deluge: instant analysis, then postgame breakdowns of what will stick for the next season.

Make your Digital Presence Media-Friendly

Before you pitch anything, fix the basics. Do a quick audit of your website and top social channels. Accuracy and access matter more than perfection in this moment: update your company profile, location, team size, years in business, recent awards, and leadership roles.

On your contact page, keep your inquiry form—but add a direct email and phone number. If you’re slammed, create a simple press-focused email (media@yourwebsite.com) that forwards to you. During fast-moving coverage, aim to be as helpful as possible and anticipate the reporter’s needs.

If you claim authority in a specific niche—destination planner, blackout-tent reception designer, weather expert—your digital footprint should prove it. Make sure your portfolio, highlights, and captions actually reflect the work you want to be quoted on, as the editors will check.

How to Pitch (Yes, Even without a Wedding Publicist)

I still use a framework inspired by the RACE model I learned two decades ago: research, ideation, contact, execution.

I would encourage you to start small, selecting 2-3 realistic outlets where your market knowledge is of real value. Search the outlet for their current Swift/Kelce wedding coverage and land on the writers whose beat is clearly a match.

When you email, keep it tight: start by acknowledging their coverage, offer a couple of sentences on who you are and why your perspective is useful now, and include up to three timely angles you can support with specifics (numbers, examples, rights-cleared images you own, or introductions to complementary experts). Keep exclusivity in mind, offering the idea to one outlet at a time; if it’s a no, move on.

Then track it with a basic spreadsheet. Set up an alert so you don’t miss when features go live (remember- the writers aren’t always told!).

And of course, share, share, share- it’s great for you and the writer who worked hard to pull together the piece.

Source Etiquette: The Rules of Wedding PR

This news cycle rewards people who are fast, clear, and easy to work with. Hit deadlines—early if you can, as it will be appreciated. Answer exactly what was asked, in the format requested. If they need you to answer all of the questions, then make sure to do it- and avoid deviating, as well as any self-promotion.

Keep quotes clean and specific. Don’t say “lavish florals” but instead, include what production actually takes: stem counts, staffing, refrigeration, load-in windows, and realistic cost ranges for your market. Do a quick grammar and spelling pass before sending—sloppy copy costs editors time they don’t have (especially now!).

Again- please don’t sell. After all, your attribution and link are the promotion, along with the credibility that comes with being included.

Get Organized + Quickly

Busy season isn’t going to pause for pop culture so it’s essential to stay organized. Create a press folder with quick assets- your bio, a company boilerplate, a professional headshot (or two!) and a logo. If available, it would be great to have a professional action shot of you at a wedding.

Keep a simple running list of pitches, responses, and live links so you can spot which angles resonate and where to invest your time.

Given the busyness of the season, consider creating a comprehensive check list of how to promote the feature, so it can be handed off to anyone on your team in a pinch.

A Final Word (+ Pep Talk)

The Taylor/Travis storyline is bigger than a single headline. It’s one of those rare moments when wedding expertise is culturally relevant far beyond our industry. Show up prepared, stay ethical, and make editors’ lives easier. Do that, and you’ll convert this Swift news cycle into something far more durable: authority, backlinks, and relationships that keep paying off long after the story fades.
