The workshop is produced by Fernanda Cohen.

Although we’ll provide some junk for you to play with, attendees must bring their own ordinary objects to be able to work in-class.

Over the next 7 days at Escape From Illustration Island, I’ll be covering the most important elements that make up a successful online portfolio website, and how to use them to the best effect, in a series called 7 Elements of an Effective Portfolio Website.

What does it mean to have a successful portfolio website?

This means that when an Art Director or other type of potential client visits your site, they get a clear sense of who you are, what you do, and why you are the right person for their project. Ideally, a winning portfolio will lead to more contracts, more referrals, and more work doing the types of projects you really want to do.

The way I see it, there are 7 major points to focus on when creating or refining your online portfolio:

If you follow the steps in this series, you can apply these ideas to your own online portfolio, which will maximize the potential effectiveness of your promotional efforts in a growing sea of Illustrators.

The Graphic Eye is a collection of photographs taken by Graphic Designers, and is a great exploration into the concept of experimenting with different mediums. Many creators appreciate other forms of art, such as film, music, sculpture, or others that in turn inform our own Illustration or Graphic Design work.

I recently interviewed Stefan Bucher of 344 Design for Episode 11 of the EFII Podcast, and he generously offered to send a signed copy of his book to the winner of the drawing. This giveaway has the added value of helping you to create more content for your blog (if you have one) and sharing your experiences with your fellow creators.

How To Enter: Publish a post to your blog sharing your experience of working with, or being inspired by, a medium other than the one you most often work in. Be sure to link back to Episode 11 in your post. (You can see an example of how I did it here.)  Then, go to the comments section of Episode 11 and share the link to your blog post. Feel free to tell us what to expect when we visit your post. The deadline for your submission is Sunday, November 8th at midnight, PST.
