I was hopeful this month. Really hopeful. I thought this was it. I thought it would happen. Last week I asked for your pregnancy announcement ideas. I was giddy thinking of cute ways to tell my husband I was pregnant. I ordered a "big brother" shirt off of Etsy and planned to take a picture of my son in it for Mother's Day gifts to our moms. Now I'm scrambling around trying to figure out what to get our moms for Mother's Day and instead of being giddy I'm constantly crying. My life has been consumed (again) by infertility.

I thought I could avoid it this time. I thought I was grateful enough for the one child we do have. I thought that I would hang on to the promise that it happened once before, it can happen again. I was wrong. I was holding onto hope until last Thursday. It was my "day 21" blood test where my dr. checks my LH levels to indicate ovulation. She called me that night with the news. My LH level was a 1.07. The last round of Clomid it was a 0.75. When we conceived our son, it was a 1.5. The number she is looking for is a 5 and above. We discussed how maybe that blood test isn't very accurate for me since I had conceived before with low numbers. I told her that I had 4 days of positive ovulation tests this month. She said to "wait and see".

I've been checking my Basal Body Temperature every morning. Despite the positive ovulation test, I never saw the classic dip and spike in temperature to indicate ovualtion. I wonder if I'm getting false positives. When we got pregnant before, my chart showed classic ovulation and then pregnancy temperatures. I started taking pregnancy tests every morning this week and nothing. I had hoped so much for two pink lines. I'm incredibly discouraged.

Now, we just wait...again. I get one more round of Clomid. At this rate, that pushes everything out by two months. That's how long a whole cycle takes me. Two more months of waiting. Meanwhile, there are pregnancy announcements everywhere. I don't know how much more I can take. If the next round of Clomid doesn't work, my dr. is referring me out to a specialist. This scares me. I worry about all the time it will take once we are there. More tests. More time. More impatience.

I'm trying to be hopeful. This was only our second round of Clomid. My son was conceived on the third round. I remember the second round being the hardest on me last time. That's when I became even more consumed with the struggles of infertility. The hopelessness.

Thank you for letting me pour out my heart in this blog post. It was very theraputic to share my deepest thoughts with you all. If you're pregnant and I don't talk to you about your pregnancy or I post a tweet about how I can't stand pregnant women, please forgive me. I don't mean it. I'm just struggling right now. I promise that once I get a baby growing in my belly, I will return to my normal self.
You might have heard of the Wolbybug Diaper Covers. They're fast becoming a favorite among cloth diapering moms. Their unique design makes them a onesize cover and their front and back flap will conveniently hold your prefold or insert in place and prevent bunching.

You don't have to worry about replacing your stash as your baby grows, but it can be confusing to figure out when it's time to adjust the size or to figure out what size your diapers should be on. Here's some tips to get you started:

bumGenius diapers sizing guide

Most manufacturers have a size guide. Start there! Adjust your diaper according to their recommendation, usually based on weight. If the diaper seems like a good fit, go with it! If not, adjust accordingly.

Newborns may not fit in one-size diapers, yet. Even though the manufacturer claims their diaper will fit from birth, sometimes they don't! It all depends on the shape of your baby. If the diaper doesn't fit on the smallest setting yet, don't worry, it will happen soon!

It's time to adjust the sizing on your one-size diapers when the fit becomes "weird." If the diaper doesn't look quite right in the current sizing, try going up a size. That may fix your problem.

You may worry that your baby will outgrow their diapers well before potty training like the manufacturer claims. Many babies, before becoming mobile, will need the diaper on a larger size. Once your child becomes mobile and loses some baby fat, you may find that you need to go down a size. It is typical for a child to slim down once walking.

Don't be afraid to "customize" your sizing. Sometimes I unsnap the middle snap on the rise adjustment, but leave the outer snaps together for a tighter fit around the legs.

Overall, don't stress! One Size diapers are versatile and durable. Perfect for growing families. Are you a fan of one size cloth diapers?

Let me start this post by stating, no, I am not pregnant...I don't think. It's too early to tell and I'm in that horrible stage where you have to wait! Where is patience when you need it?

So, to fill the time in between now and a reasonable test date, I'm coming up with cute ideas to announce my pregnancy (hopefully) to my husband. Last time was not cute at all. This is how it happened:

The morning I tested, I woke up at 5 am to pee. Even though I was in a sleepy haze, I knew that testing with the first urine of the day was best, so I grabbed a test and turned on the light. I stood in the bathroom and waited for the result. I had seen so many negative tests that I was shocked to finally see a positive! I couldn't believe it! I stood in the bathroom for a minute trying to figure out what to do. I then, ran into our bedroom where my sweet husband was sound asleep. I turned on the light, jumped on the bed, shook him awake, and said "I'm pregnant." I was wide awake and he went back to sleep.

Not the greatest, cutest announcement story and this time I want to do better! I have some time to plan and I need help! I've found some really cute ideas on Pinterest from some bloggers:

Sized Pocket Diapers? You will love the fit of the Knickernappies Custom Fit diaper!

Sure, the one size cloth diaper is popular and makes a lot of sense to a lot of families but there will always be a place and purpose for sized pocket diapers like the Knickernappies Custom Fit Diaper.

It's easy to create a diaper that's supposed to fit babies from birth through potty training but the truth is that not all babies are shaped the same and one size diapers just don't fit or function the same on all of them. Skinny legged babies might have trouble with gaping legs and leaks, chunky babies might outgrow the diaper too soon or you might find the fit is too tight.

What about the bulk factor? OS diapers are the bulkiest on newborns and often new mothers find that those adorable clothes just won't fit over their new cloth diapers. With a sized diaper, they would!

Knickernappies Custom Fit pocket diapers feature elastic at both the waist and back. This keeps messes where they belong: in the diaper! With hidden snaps and gentle leg elastic, Knickernappies are designed for your baby's comfort.

Side snaps give this diaper a very smooth fit across the tummy. No more poofing or drooping! In addition, side snaps are great for curious toddlers who have mastered aplix or front-snapping diapers.

I'm counting the days until ovulation and crossing my fingers and toes that this month is the month! So, I'm doing everything I can in my power this month to make sure it happens! Of course, I don't have complete control, but it can't hurt to try right! I've researched some ways to help with pregnancy while ovulating and have found the ovulation diet! Okay, so there isn't a real ovulation "diet", but if you are trying to get pregnant, these foods can only do good while ovulating!

Beans - According to research women have an easier time getting pregnant when consuming a diet high in plant protein.

Ice Cream or other whole milk products - One to two servings daily will help protect against ovulatory infertility.

Leafy Greens - Eat your salads! Leafy greens are full of folates which is good for both you and your husband! The folates lead to healthier sperm which leads to a reduced chance of miscarriage.

Pumpkin Seeds - full of iron! You could substitute this with other foods full of iron or take an iron supplement. Research shows that women who take an iron supplement have an easier time to getting pregnant.

Olive oil - Olive oil reduces inflammation which can interfere with ovulation.

Salmon - Salmon is full of omega 3 fatty acids which help regulate your reproductive hormones and increase blood flow to your reproductive organs.

Looks like it's a week of healthy eating for me offset with a bowl or two of ice cream daily!

BumGenius diapers are some of the best selling diapers on the cloth diaper scene! There are a few different styles to choose from. It can be hard to decide what is best for you. Here's a look at the 4.0 and the Freetime.

4.0
The 4.0 is a pocket style diaper. The diaper has a PUL outer layer and a suede cloth inner layer. It comes with two microfiber inserts, a small newborn insert and a larger one-size insert with a snap down sizing system. The 4.0 fits from 8-35 pounds and has a snap down rise for size adjustment. This diaper comes in both hook and loop and snaps.

To use this diaper you will need to stuff the inserts inside the rear pocket before use. You will need to remove the inserts before washing.

Cost: $17.95

Freetime
The Freetime is an all-in-one style diaper. The diaper has a PUL outer layer and two microfiber soakers attached, one at each end. The soakers are lined with suede cloth that goes against your baby's skin. This diaper fits from 8-35 pounds and has a snap down rise for size adjustment. This diaper comes in both hook and loop and snaps.

To use this diaper you just make sure the soakers are laying flat in the diaper.

Cost: $19.95

So which do you choose? Honestly, these diapers are very similar. They use the same materials and at first glance, you won't be able to tell a difference when your baby is wearing the diaper. It's a great deal to get the Freetime for only $2 more and not have to worry about stuffing diapers when doing diaper laundry. A benefit to the 4.0 is you can stuff more into the pocket to boost absorbency or use a natural fiber insert. Also, microfiber wears down over time and needs to be replaced. Replacing the inserts for the 4.0 is going to much easier than removing the soakers and replacing them in a Freetime.

Have you tried both? Which do you prefer?

Trophy Tuesday: Win a Fuzzi Bunz Diaper Tote or save 15% when you order one this week!

There are so many adorable prints on the market in the cloth diapering community! You may find yourself dying to own every new diaper that comes out because you just *have* to have that new print! My question for you is this...

Do you only buy prints based on the gender of your child?

If you have a boy, do you stick to boy prints? Does your little girl only wear girly prints? Thankfully there are quite a few gender neutral prints available for those parents who only like to buy based on gender.

I have a boy and I remember when Fuzzibunz came out with new Spring prints last year. I quickly scooped a Whimsical Whale because I loved it and had to have it! I also loved the "girl" print, Strawberry Fields, but I didn't buy it because I had a boy. I told myself I would buy one before they were discontinued so I wouldn't miss out and I didn't. I'm kicking myself now for missing out on that adorable print!

P.S. I hear Fuzzibunz has new prints on the horizon! Can't wait to see what they are!

In case you're wondering, the prints above are:

Top: WolbyBug Pink Dot, GroVia Peacocks

Middle: BumGenius Albert, GroVia Nature, Kawaii White Animal

Bottom: GroVia Woodland, GroVia Robots

So, is your cloth diaper stash gender specific or more gender neutral?

Saturday Project - Organize your freezer to fit MORE inside!

I suspect most of us have areas in our house that silently bug us...places that are messy, inefficiently used, etc. For me, one such spot was my kitchen freezer. It seemed like it never fit enough into it and something was always falling out on my toes when I opened the door. At best, it was inefficient use of space. At worst, it was a plain mess.

One day, while nesting before the birth of baby #3, I tackled the freezer. I emptied everything out onto the counter, threw away anything that was just too old, and wiped down the inside. But now what? Hmmm...

I pulled out my measuring tape for some quick measurements, then hit the road. At Big Lots, I found 3 plastic shoe boxes for $1 each. They were the perfect size for the bottom shelf. I envisioned neatly labeled "drawers" for meats, veggies, and cheese.

At The Container Store, I found plastic file boxes in various widths. Turned out that they would fit perfectly on the top shelf. I imagined bags of tater tots finally having a home.

Sadly, I didn't think to take a "Before" photo. I suppose I could empty everything out again and shove it back in willy nilly and take a picture, but hopefully you can just use your imagination. Be sure to include something diving for the floor every time we wanted ice.

This is my "After" photo:

My dream of neatly labeled drawers came true! And those tater tots finally have a home with walls so the bag isn't always falling over. I like how the clear file drawers still allow plenty of light through. Nothing falls on my feet, but best of all, I now have MORE in my freezer than I've ever had in there before. And I can find it!

Total cost: about $12
Total time: about 1 hour plus shopping time

Here I am, waiting to start our second round of Clomid. I have taken the progesterone to induce a period and nothing is happening. It's been 5 days since I completed the medication and nothing. I've taken this medicine so many times in the future and still don't remember what I'm supposed to expect! Is it 3 days after finishing the medicine that I get a period or 10? I'm so anxious to start another round of Clomid in hopes of getting pregnant that it's hard to be patient. I feel like one whole cycle takes forever. I have to take the progesterone for 10 days. Then I have wait to for the period. Then I start the real cycle. If I'm not pregnant, I have to wait until day 35 to start the progesterone all over again. All in all, it's like a two month cycle! It's so hard to be patient when you want something so badly.

Then again, I look at our life, at our toddler and think the timing was perfect. When we got married, we didn't go on birth control. I knew I wasn't ovulating, but our thought process was, let's see what happened. And for a year and a half nothing happens. We would have been pleased to get pregnant right away, it would have been a welcome surprise, but that's not what happened. Instead, our son was born a month after our second wedding anniversary and that was perfect! We got two years to create memories, save money, and live in a tiny, one bedroom apartment. Our life would have been very different if we had gotten pregnant right away and I'm so thankful for the time that we had as a childless couple.

I'm trying to remind myself all of that now as I impatiently wait for my period to start. I'm thankful for the time with our toddler. The memories of one-on-one time, the ease of getting just one child at the door when we want to leave. I'm trusting that things don't happen in my time, but at the right time. And that is comforting.

Infertility can feel very lonely. You wonder how anyone could understand where you're feelings are coming from. For me, I realized many of my thoughts and feelings were irrational, but I didn't feel like I had a lot of people to talk to about it. My best friend was pregnant, so I didn't feel like she could possibly understand. My husband got to deal with the brunt of my feelings and thank goodness for him.

He never really could understand my fears and feelings. For him, having a child wasn't a must. He was okay with just the two of us. He didn't need a baby to feel complete. There was no deep yearning or broken heart every month that passed. When friends announced their pregnancies, it didn't hurt his feelings. If anything, it caused a dread for him. He dreaded the heartache that I would feel and the sobbing that would come.

He was always supportive, holding me while I cried and praying for me. He couldn't understand where I came from, but he never belittled my thoughts. My friends and family members would say things like...

"Don't worry, you'll have a baby." (My thoughts: You don't know that)

"You're young and healthy, it's impossible for you to be infertile." (Gee, really?)

"You've only been trying for a little while. I know people that have been trying for years." (That doesn't make my longing go away.)

I could go on and on with the hurtful comments I encountered. Of course, no one meant to hurt me. They meant well. These people loved me, but they couldn't possibly understand where I was coming from. They hadn't been there. There were no struggles to get pregnant. Babies came easily. Even typing this, I feel bitter. Bitter that fertility is so easy for others. I hated when someone would say, "Sorry, I can't help you. I just have to think about getting pregnant and it happens." Comments like that were the worst. They infuriated me. All I could think was, "Thanks for rubbing it in."

Of course, these are irrational thoughts, but they were real. My husband stood by me when I spoke the truth. I poured out my heart and soul to him, every irrational thought, and he loved me through it. He didn't understand it, but he didn't make me feel like my feelings weren't important. He helped me through the rough battle to get pregnant the first time and he's doing it again this time.

I have to admit, it seems easier this time. I've cried probably a tenth of the amount I did last time. The bitterness and hurt is still there and very real, but I'm working through it. I busy myself with time spent with my toddler, so thankful for the blessing of his life. I would love to see him become a big brother, but I know that I just need to be patient and thankful. It was proven to me once before that things don't happen in my time and so I try to remember that.

I was hopeful that last month would be the month, but it wasn't. During my two week wait, I was happy and excited. I thought, maybe, just maybe. Once again, I was disappointed, but ready to start over again this month. So here I am again, waiting for a new cycle to start, a new month of hope. Another month where I get to be thankful for my supportive husband who loves me through my hormonal craziness.

I think my nesting instinct has kicked in as the birth of our 3rd child draws near. I'm organizing everything!

One day this week, I tackled our linen closet/medicine cabinet. Our closet is really small and never fits the things I want to put inside. One thing in particular was medical-related items that are too big to fit into the small cabinet I have for meds.

I hit Pinterest for some ideas and found inspiration in this:

This clever person bought a shoe holder and cut it down to size for her bathroom cabinet. I loved the idea! I already use shoe holders in most of our closets to store game pieces, hats & gloves, etc. Just one problem...THIS idea wouldn't fit in my narrow linen closet.

I headed to the store to take a look at my favorite cheap shoe holders. Sure enough, I could cut one in half lengthwise. Perfect.

For $6, this is what I have. There are two more rows of shoe pouches that you don't see in the pic, so lots of extra storage without any fuss. I simply trimmed right down the center between the two seams. I still have half left that I can use elsewhere. I can put extra boxes of kid meds up high, and lower down put the safe items or things the kids are allowed to get themselves. LOVE it!

When you're trying to get pregnant, it's helpful to become more in tune with your body. Knowing when you ovulate can help you time your intercourse correctly and improve your chances of getting pregnant. Here's some tips to help you know when you are ovulating:

Basal Body Temperature dips then rises. If you are charting your temperatures, you will be able to see ovulation on the chart! There will be a dip on ovulation day and then a rise immediatedly after. For more information on charting, see this post.

Ovulation Prediction Tests are great! They work the same way as pregnancy tests, but check for a rise in your luteneizing hormones (LH).

Cramping - This one is a little more difficult to figure out and varies for each woman. Some women cramp during ovulation, some before, and some after. If you pay attention for a few months, you should be able to figure out which one happens for you.

Change in cervical fluid - Typically, the fluid becomes more like "egg whites", but definitely very wet.

All that said, just because you know you ovulated and took action doesn't mean you'll get pregnant that month...unfortunately!
