In the spirit of HALLOWEEN, Nurul & I went to catch the cool dark slasher flick Jennifer’s Body starring the oh-so-ever-luscious body of Megan Fox at Illuma Bugis Junction on opening weekend.

Plot

Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) was your typical everyday hot cutie cheerleader which all the guys were yearning for. However, things take a sudden twist after attending a pub performance by Low Shoulder (a punk band with Adam Brody of the OC as the lead singer). After the performance, Jennifer never really came back. Gruesome murders & mutilated bodies starts surfacing around the school as Jennifer’s best friend, “Needy” Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried of Mamma Mia! & Mean Girls) begins to see the change in her once BFF. Well, it ends in an awesome showdown between the girls as Jennifer targets Needy’s boyfriend, Chip (Johnny Simmons).

Cinematography

It knows they have an unoriginal plot thus the moved away from horror to a more horror comedy. Scary yet light and funny. There are many scenes which gives this inter mix of horror and comedy especially the part when Jennifer was about to kill Goth Boy while Needy was making out with her boyfriend Chip. Also, I kinda like the last shot when Needy was trying to kill Jennifer in Jen’s bedroom. The slow motion and deep play in tensions from hate to hopelessness to self-sacrificial. A nice touch in my view.

Acting

I have to commend the strong chemistry between Megan Fox and especially Amanda Seyfried. They had an uncanny connection as we could believe a hot bombshell could be friends with a geeky plain girl. We all know Megan Fox can act as the hot bombshell but it’s different without the robots and when she’s actually a killer. Amanda also continued her Mamma Mia cutesy geeky gal that turns psychotic despairs upon learning the truth.

Overall

To be frank, it’s not an original plot. It has been seen countless of times lastly being used by Twilight. However, it’s a very nice dark humour horror. Thus, that’s what makes the difference. It’s a typical teen movie displaying the sexual tensions, desires & worries among pubescent adolescence. It’s not a respected horror movie (Do catch Darah. I heard strong reviews for it.) It’s a nice show to catch if your bored and just want to have a few laughs and scares.

Well, to be honest, we have never tried the GV Gold Class at VivoCity. So for our last anniversary, I decided to bring Nurul to catch The Ugly Truth starring Gerard Butler(He is so typecasted in Romance movies! Time to move on to some action flicks bro!) & Katherine Heigl. The film was kinda okay for me although I that felt He’s Just Not That Into You was way better and covered most of the angles in relationships. However, the movie wasn’t the main highlight. Its the GOLD CLASS.

Both of us were like nervous school kids entering the big doors saying GOLD CLASS. It felt like entering the First Class Vip check in entrance at Changi Airport. And I have to say, I was impressed with what awaited us. Truly, value for money.

We were greeted warmly by the staff and were invited to either have dinner or drinks first at the Cinema’s own GOLD Class Lounge while waiting for the movie to begin. (They must have seen the giggles & curious eyes as one of the staff asked if this is our first time.) We both looked at each other & immediately agreed to enter the cinema first wanting to enjoy the supposed exuberant & well-gossiped about cinema. (Also, it did help that we already stuffed ourselves with Barcelos Portuguese Chicken before that! )

When we entered the cinema hall, I was really impressed. Heheh. Big screen, few seats (only 20 if am not wrong) & LUSCIOUS SEATS! I immediately jumped onto my seat while playing with all the gizmos on it. I loved especially the recline button which allowed me go back 180 degrees as i lay there asleep. Hehe. And true to it’s words as a First Class Cabin, with a press of a button, a stewardess (Eh. hehe. Just kidding!) A staff came and took our order for a mouth watering hot chocolate brownie with Ben n Jerry’s ice cream & tortilla nacho chips with sour cream & cheese sauce. Not to mention, a root beer float too.

I nearly fell asleep on the chair while waiting for the movie to begin. Also, it was fun being pampered and served by Nurul. Haha. Some guys just have all the luck. A memorable experience (although I can’t say about the movie though). I can’t wait for my next Gold Class Experience! Hint : If you want to get me something for my birthday, this is a great idea! And I can certainly cross out on my wish list of wanting to ride First Class. Why take a plane, when I can just easily walk to Vivocity.

Well, most women in Singapore would certainly expressed their deepest gratitude and adoration for the Canadian label ALDO! From accessories to boots and heels, its a god send for women. However, I too have to thank ALDO for my new exquisite and stylish messenger bag! 

I was looking for a bag to fit all my items for work. To be frank, I was in love with another bag from Fossil. There was only one drawback, an exact$350 price tag. However, we can thank Nurul once again for her love of window shopping in Aldo. While she was eyeing a pair of heels, my eyes detected a wonderful messenger bag tucked hidden in the corner of the shop. I felt in love with it immediately. The smooth brown leather bag with a nice dark brown strap.

The best part is certainly the interior of the bad. Roomy and spacious with lots of small compartments. And I like the intricate cloth lining that gives the bag a classier edge. WE can thank Aldo Bensadoun, the designer himself for making this intricate and brilliant messenger bag. For your info, I got it on a sale at $100 (original price $300). And thanks to Nurul for forking out the cash. ;p

I bet most of you may have seen the ad to this popular perfume. Supermodel and fashionista Kate Moss is the face of it.  As usual, I was thrilled when Total Beauty announced that they were going to send me a bottle of 50ml YSL Parisienne perfume. In fact, they were very timely. My favourite scent – Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, is only a few sprays from finishing.

Now, if you have seen the YSL Parisienne ad starring Kate Moss in tight black leather suit, I would have expected that the first thought that comes into your mind about the Parisienne is that it is not a perfume for the sweet girl-next-door. As you know, Kate Moss is also the face of high street fashion – Topshop. Therefore, sweet doesn’t cut out for it.

Surprisingly, the Parisienne is all about sweetness and feminity. Although at first whiff, my sister thought it smelt like one of my uncle’s cologne, while I think it was just too strong for me as compared to my favourite Green Tea scent. You see, rose scents were never particularly popular with me as most of them try too hard to be the real thing.

As for the Parisienne, surprisingly, it started off strong, but gradually you only sniff subtle hint of roses. The scent is sweet and very feminine just like me. Also, I like its bottle’s packaging.

A grand floral with a woody structure, luminous even in its mystery, Parisienne is the perfume of ultra feminity, warmed by the touch of the man who embraced her.

The hunt for a new face wash is finally here once again. I did love my Men-Ufacial set but for the benefit of our readers, here i am sacrificing my clean handsome face (Haha! ;p) to test out the current brands in the market! I was at Watson Takashimaya when i finally made my purchase upon the advice of Men’s Health magazine award 2009 : Nugeno Men Cool Facial Set! 

Well, a few brands caught my eye while i was skimming the shelves and I was looking at Givenchy & Skin Lab. However, you can thank the Watson staff that simply won me over.

 I am fine with cleansers as I feel most in the market does the job. I am though very particular on moisturisers. I tend to perspire a lot and irritates the hell out of me when my sweat mixed with the moisturiser begins to burn my eyes. Trust me, its not a pretty sight. When i noticed it was a cream, I was skeptical as am sure it was gonna give me those burning sensations in my eyes. But upon testing, the moisturiser is cool! It leaves a refreshing cold touch that immediately saturates into the skin pores (All thanks to the menthol feeling). Even when I sweat, no burning sensation occurs near my eyes. Another important aspect is the oil control and SPF25 sunblock chemical.

The cleanser gives a nice tight clean feeling after the wash. I can feel my skin being rejuvenated and indeed begin to imagine my dark circles start to disappear. Sadly though, it reappeared later in the day. But, it is a good cleanser that doesn’t dry the skin and gives a smooth deep cleansing touch.

Frankly, I kinda like this set. A refreshing, super absorptive and brilliant facial set for men! The Menthol Men Moisturiser goes for $9.95 while the cleanser is $8.90 at Watsons. Do give it a try and feel the difference today.

Honestly, before receiving the mascara, I have no idea how it looks like. But from the email I received, it raved that the L’Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara has become a household name in the United Kingdom (UK).

Unfortunately, our L’Oreal don’t currently carry it here in Singapore.

Anyways, the moment I received the mascara, the first thing that comes into my mind is that I have seen such a mascara before – Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara. The L’Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara has the same spherical brush as the Givenchy mascara. Now, unfortunately I do not have the luxury to try out such an expensive brand.

But fortunately for you dear readers, I am lucky enough to try the L’Oreal version.

It is said with the revolutionary brush (Spherical and Flexi-Globe Brush), it is possible to apply the mascara to every angle to reach every last lash for a completely fanned-out explosive effect. It even reaches hard to reach corner lashes.

After trying the mascara myself, I now understand why the mascara is such a phenomenon in UK. My lashes are longer and thicker. Although, at first try, I had a slight problem – the mascara was gooey and clumpy. But I managed to overcome it after swiping it off with tissue. My next few tries went on pretty smoothly.

However, you need to get used to the spherical brush (I have always been a fan of thick conventional mascara brushes). At the end of the day, the mascara stays on well and doesn’t smudge. But becareful when you start tearing, it doesn’t get along well with tears.

Before and After

The mascara formula is made of soft-wax system of paraffin, jojoba oil and Pro-Vitamin B5 for lash conditioning. It is also suitable for contact lens wearer such as moi. 

With a bargain at USD9.49 – out in November 2009, definitely a mascara to look out for. Let’s pray and hope that it will reach our sunny shores soon.

I first saw this product through an advertorial a couple months back in most of the popular women’s magazine. I was obviously intrigued with claims and the survey L’Occitane had conducted. A couple dozen women claimed that the product has helped rebalance their skin. At once, I was sold! I was looking for something that can help my oily and combination skin you see.

Also, according to the people at L’Occitane, the product not only helps rebalances sebum production on the skin while moisturising. It also tighten pores and help absorb sebum to control that shine. Now, anything that helps control sebum and oil, I am sold! I was determined to purchase the product even before checking out the price. I was desperate!

Hmmm.. Frankly, at 30ml, I think the product is too expensive for its size. I used it sparingly so it can last quite a while. Therefore I was amazed when it lasted longer than expected as I wasn’t scripming.

Although it moisturisers, it does not help much at absorbing excess sebum and controlling it a couple of hours later. I noticed, after two to three hours my skin becomes it oily-self. Immediately applied however, it does absorb and controls sebum. It even makes my applying sunblock simpler.

Another plus point to this popular product is that, because of its natural ingredients, I did not break out at all during my usage. The very mild aromatic smell also isn’t a turn off for me.

But having to pay S$59 for it once, I might consider getting a different moisturiser.

BlackBerry Curve (8900)

Nurul and I certainly are handphone freaks. We jump from phone to phone following the latest gizmos and technology that’s ever changing in our society. After our foray into the Samsung G400, we decided to move on to a different phone altogether. Frankly, we have to thank the famous Singapore blogger Xiaxue! Her post on the Blackberry certainly piqued Nurul’s curiosity! Thus, we finally attain the BLACKBERRY CURVE!

For starters, we weren’t looking for a new phone. In actual fact, we loved our Samsung G400. It was just that we wanted to change our network from Starhub to M1. Why? Well, it’s thanks to M1’s special Free Calls to 3 M1 numbers (I have to commend M1 for their brilliant and attractive phone plans that’s really customer friendly) - You just have to pick the plan that fits you. And this Free Calls to 3 M1 numbers is brilliant for me especially with Nurul in the group. All I have to do is just pick up the phone and call Nurul for FREE! One month into the plan has definitely saved me a fortune on phone bills. And it frees up time to call other people and clients.

So why did we get the Blackberry Curve? Well, firstly it was free under that SunSaver Plus Take 3 package. However, the drawback of the Take3 package is that you have to return the phone at the end of your contract or else incur charges. Thus, the phone was going for $298 under a normal 2 year contract. However, with M1’s promotion of changing from a different subscriber we get $100 discount and on top of that another $100 discount for new contract promotion. Thus, we finally got our Blackberry for only $98 under a two-year contract plan.

Blackberry Curve (8900)

As they say, once you have a Blackberry, you will never switch back. I am a Blackberry Convert! I love my Blackberry! I never knew how I could have lived my life without a Blackberry (other than Nurul! hehe!) In the beginning, I disliked the QWERTY keyboard. After seeing Nabihah (Nurul’s second sister) using her Nokia with QWERTY ketboard, I was vehemently adamant into believing that it is far more troublesome and a pain in the ass. I thought my fingers were too fat and big, thus typing would have been hard. But after using it, I realised just how easy and fun it is to use a QWERTY keyboard. Not to mention, the many wonderful applications in the Blackberry.

Pros

• QWERTY KEYBOARD (A breeze once you get used to it. Easier than all the touch screen or typing styles)
• The keyboard is very responsive and sensitive to a fingers pressure.
• Brilliant Applications! Like the Blackberry Messenger (BB to BB free!)
• I love the integrated Google Maps (Never get lost ever even while am driving!), Documents Spreadsheets Applications, Instant Email Notifications, Twitter and Standard Chartered Internet Banking! Also GOOGLE to help me discover anything that i need on the go.
• Simple to Use with an in-built guide to show the magic of BB!
• Processor is very fast
• Slim & Stylish

Cons

• Battery life is a killer usually lasting me at the most 1 & half days
• Loading up is a pain taking at least 2 mins for start up
• Average Camera: Only 3.2 MP
• Messages are messily arranged following days. Not under names.
• No 3G application

Overall

I give the Blackberry 4/5 for its ingenuity, its usability, its black sexiness, its brilliant applications and its ability to be the number ONE contender to the iPhone! A must try, trust me that you will end up as BlackBerry Converts in no time. Although, I certainly do hope though that they increase the battery life, camera megapixels and upload timing.

So, thinking of switching yet?
