They sent members over to Uganda and poured the foundation to the orphanage in Bukaleba, they've help numerous fund-raising events, they manage our webpage (Thanks Colton!) and they do numerous other things. Thirty five children of the forty have arrived in the home. We are yet to receive more three. Unfortunately two died, as their health and conditions could not wait that long. We greatly regret their death. When the children arrived they had mixed reactions; the young ones welcomed their new life with yelling and crying as they were separated from their guardians; the older ones just walked around in silent, it was interesting looking at them as we wondered what was going on in their little hearts and minds. A few minutes later it was clear that they had come to a better home compared to where they had been. The toys, hot shower and the new clothes left by the visiting team from USA cleared all their fears. Eleven of the children where having a high fever, which we suspected to be as a result of Malaria for one actually had convulsions, (as seen in the down middle picture on the table being prayed for). The eleven were taken to the hospital immediately for treatment and they are recovering quite well. Most of the other children are suffering from malnutrition and we have put them on a high protein and vitamins diet hopefully they will recover soon.

The twenty two staff working in the babies’ home, are simply wonderful, they are doing such a wonderful job taking care of the children day and night. They cook for the children, feed and clean them, wash their cloth, read them Gods word, pray with them and as well play with them, they are doing everything and they are a blessing.. The older children are ready to begin nursery school. There is need to finish the nursery school immediately. It was awesome to see all the people rally around the needs of the Bukaleba orphans. Their church is spending the whole month of November raising funds for the Children's Center and the other Bukaleba projects. Thanks First Baptist Augusta for your commitment to loving the orphans of the world!

Lillian

We are very sad to report that Lillian Kalemara passed away on Sunday, September 7. Lillian was a Director of Arise Africa who we loved dearly. She was truly a saint who loved the Lord with everything she had. When our team was in Africa in July for the groundbreaking, Lillian is the one who worked so hard at Bukaleba to make sure the groundbreaking was a success. In addition to her sweet spirit, her love for the children is what will be remembered most about her. She told us that the building of the Children's Center means to her that "Christ has come." Her family and the entire Arise Africa Staff will be in our prayers through this difficult time.

iloveorphans.com on YouTube

An iloveorphans.com video is now up on YouTube. Carver Academy organized a "change for change" drive at their school. For three weeks, students went around with a large white bucket, encouraging classmates to find spare change at home, in their car, or in their rooms and bring it to school. At the end of the fundraiser, the students had collected just over $350 dollars in loose change. The group started the fundraiser to help raise awareness of poverty in Africa. They decided that they wanted to help create change for kids their age in Africa. iloveorphans.com graciously accepted the donation G.W. Carver Academy and is glad that we are partners with such a neat group of students.

Godfrey

Godfrey Wanamitsa, director of Arise Africa International, and our partner with this project, visited the United States during the month of October.
