Getest, goedgekeurd en op slag verliefd : Apple iPhone 4 ! (thanks to MacMan)

the biggest thing to happen to iPhone since … iPhone ! ::: in so many ways, it’s a first ::: this changes everything. again !

Apple is er weer in geslaagd … na de hype rond de lancering van de (eerste) iPad enkele maanden geleden, zit nu de halve wereld te wachten op de iPhone 4 ; door dergelijke slogans creëer je uiteraard ook hoge verwachtingen. Gewoontegetrouw was het Apple-opperhoofd Steve Jobs die zijn nieuwste telg kwam voorstellen begin juni op Apple WorldWide Developers Conference 2010 en die daar de belangrijkste nieuwigheden kwam demonstreren. Zijn keynote speech sloeg blijkbaar aan want in de USA gingen er in de eerste 3 dagen na de lancering 1,7 miljoen stuks over de toonbank, wat deze vierde iPhone ineens de snelst verkopende “GSM” aller tijden maakte.

Wanneer de nieuwste iPhone precies in België arriveert is nog steeds onduidelijk, net zoals de prijs : volgens de geruchten zou dat eind juli zijn en zou hij rond de 700 € moeten kosten, afhankelijk van je keuze voor een geheugen van 16 GB of 32 GB. De ILoveStyle.be-redactie heeft echter al sinds vorige week een iPhone 4 (dankzij onze goeie vriend én leverancier/specialist van al onze Apple & Mac stuff, thanks MacMan !) in bezit, en we hebben hem dan ook uitgebreid getest.

Wat we volgens Apple zelf mochten verwachten wisten we dus al op voorhand en we keken vooral uit naar de nieuwe besturingssoftware iOS 4 die meer dan 100 nieuwe functies belooft waaronder Multitasking – eindelijk – waardoor je niet telkens de ene toepassing moet afsluiten als je een andere wil openen.

Andere opvallende funny new things zijn o.a. FaceTime (video calling), het nieuwe Retina Display (helderste en scherpste beeldscherm ooit) , opnemen en bewerken van HD Video en de 5-megapixel camera met LED Flash .

The proof of the pudding is nog steeds in the eating, en zeker bij iets als een GSM – voor zover we dat woord nog mogen gebruiken voor de iPhone 4. Na ondertussen 10 dagen intensief gebruik weten we het wel zeker : deze nieuwe iPhone 4 is nog meer dan zijn voorgangers het ideale toestel om mobiel te facebooken, twitteren, foursquaren, foto’s en video’s te maken en te bewerken, de weg te vinden, muziek te beluisteren of films te bekijken, … . Oh ja, je kan er trouwens ook nog steeds mee SMSen en bellen (wist je trouwens dat uit een enquête in de USA blijkt dat gewoon telefoneren pas op de vijfde plaats staat in het lijstje van wat mensen doen met hun iPhone !?!).

Vooral de multitasking is een echte verademing, zeker voor “app-switchers” (moderne versie van de very nineties TV-zapper-verslaafde) zoals de meesten van het ILoveStyle.be-team.Verder ziet deze 4 er opnieuw een stuk beter uit dan de naar mijn mening qua looks minder geslaagde 3; het scherm van de iPhone vond ik altijd al goed, maar toch merk je duidelijk het verschil met dit Retina Display.

Critici zullen zeggen dat er andere smartphones zoals de Droid X of de duurdere modellen van Blackberry op bepaalde details beter scoren en dat zal dan ook wel zo zijn, maar wat mij betreft is het zoals met een nieuw lief : dan kijk je ook niet naar futuliteiten, you just love him & enjoy !

De behuizing bestaat uit roestvrij staal en glas voor optische kwaliteit en krasbestendigheid.
Een camera aan de voorzijde om mee te videobellen (voorlopig alleen Wi-Fi) en een “gewone” 5-megapixelcamera op de achterzijde met LED-flitser en 5 keer digitale zoom. Deze camera kan tevens 720p HD-video opnemen.
Daarnaast zijn er de gebruikelijke zaken, zoals een microfoon, 30-pins-connector, speaker en koptelefooningang.
Nieuw is een tweede microfoon voor ‘noise cancellation’
In de rand van de nieuwe behuizing heeft Apple de antennes verwerkt. De ene kant heeft antennes voor Bluetooth, Wi-Fi en GPS. De andere kant is voor UMTS- en GSM-connectiviteit.
Het scherm is uitgerust met een zogenaamd nieuw ‘Retina Display’-beeldscherm met een resolutie van 960 x 460 pixels, 4 keer meer pixels dan de huidige iPhone.
De chip is een 1 GHz Apple A4 chip die ook in de iPad zit.
Het grootste component van het nieuwe toestel is de accu. Dit moet zorgen voor 40 procent meer gesprekstijd dan bij de huidige iPhone, in totaal 7 uur. Daarnaast moet het mogelijk zijn om 6 uur lang te browsen via een 3G-verbinding en 10 uur via een Wi-Fi-verbinding. Tevens is het mogelijk om 10 uur video te bekijken en 40 uur muziek te luisteren. De standbytijd bedraagt 300 uur.
De iPhone 4 heeft een gyroscoop, die beweging op het horizontale vlak kan meten. Zo kunnen hoekverdraaiing en hoeksnelheid gemeten worden.
Movie for iPhone: direct video bewerken op de iPhone, thema’s, geolocation aan video toegevoegd, audio toevoegen, exporteren naar 360p, 520p en 720p
quadband HSDPA/HSUPA ondersteuning, en ondersteuning voor 7.2 Mbit downstream en 5.8 Mbit upstream.
De nieuwe iPhone is te verkrijgen in 2 versies/kleuren (Wit en Zwart), 16- en 32 GB-modellen.

Interview Régis Camus : Chef de Cave Champagne Piper-Heidsieck & “Sparkling Winemaker of the Year”

Régis Camus, “Chef de Cave” van champagnehuis Piper-Heidsieck, viel onlangs in de prijzen en werd tijdens de prestigieuze Londense International Wine Challenge verkozen tot ‘Sparkling winemaker of the year’. Deze titel is de belangrijkste in zijn categorie en het is reeds de vierde maal dat hij deze onderscheiding krijgt aangemeten. Dit maakt Régis Camus tot één van de meest gerespecteerde wijnmakers in de wereld.

Op uitnodiging van PR-bureau Oona en Piper-Heidsieck had ILoveStyle.be een tasting en tête-à-tête in het prestigieuze Hotel Wielemans aan de Louizalaan met mister Champagne himself : Régis Camus !

Wat vind je het meest aangename aan uw job ?
“Vandaag zie ik veel mensen werken via internet en Facebook. Ik heb een job met een praktische kant. Ik heb nog echt voeling met de materie en ben daardoor ook meer tevreden over wat ik doe.”

Vanwaar de voorkeur voor de kleur rood ?
“Rood is een prominente kleur. Hoe de keuze is gemaakt? Het is eigenlijk spontaan gekomen. Onze mensen zochten in hun drukke dagen naar de ideale kleur om het merk te vertegenwoordigen. Tot 1 van hen naar me toe kwam en een kleur liet zien die me overweldigde… Het was rood. Vanaf 1997 is rood een belangrijke kleur voor Piper. In de zomer wordt er overgeschakeld naar het frivolere roze. Een frissere tint om de bubbels op een koele wijze te benutten.”

Piper-Heidsieck sponsort evenementen die met mode te maken hebben. Ze waren aanwezig op de opening van FFI’s Vitrine bij Dedon en op de Modeshow van La Cambre. Marylin Monroe werd ‘s morgens wakker met een coupe Piper-Heidsieck, Piper-Heidsieck is de gastheer voor de genodigden in Cannes en Jean-Paul Gaultier heeft voor Cuvée Speciale een rood corset met zwarte veters ontworpen. En dankzij Christian Louboutin kunnen we champagne drinken uit een speciaal daarvoor ontworpen schoen. Kortom: Piper-Heidsieck en kunst gaan hand in hand.

Brussels by night is rather particular… Indeed, the capital of Europe is undoubtedly also one of the 3 smallest capital of Europe… This creates an atmosphere of “village” where finally everyone knows everyone a little. But in Brussels one also feels accomodated…accepted…That is undoubtedly the influence of the European Institutions… They give Brussels nightlife a very cosmopolitan touch. Party is everywhere…there are so many things to do…

The best club of the capital is without any doubts the Libertine Supersport. The programation is super qualitative and Brussels best Dj’s are there the residents. On these nights, the masks fall, the emotions explode, the smiles dominate, and this on the sound of the best electronic music the world can propose…

We opened the club the 10th of october 2009, and these first 8 months have been quite crazy ;
Let’s try to sum it up for you..
It’s a two floor building by the water (in front of the canal of Brussels with a beautiful view on the business center buildings of Brussels (called “Little Manhattan”)), open every Saturday, with a capacity of approx. 1000 people.

* Upstairs, 1st floor, THE LIBERTINE : A cosy club with a pretty sexual atmosphere, disco balls, very good soundsystem, comfortable sofas, big bar and a small dancefloor (200 persons) with a view on the canal of Brussels. The music: Nu-Disco, Disco, Deep house… Past DJ’s: Joakim, Diskjokke, Pilooski, Tensnake Live, Italians Do It better Crew, Shit Robot, Still Going, Runaway, Golden Bug Live, Munk, Telonius, and Horse Meat Disco (as international residents).

Crowded House maakt spectaculaire come-back met hun nieuwe album Intriguer

De Nieuw-Zeelandse band Crowded House is helemaal terug. Met ‘Intriguer’ brachten ze een verfrissend album uit, niet helemaal in de lijn van hun vorig werk dus.

Er zijn nog maar weinig bands die al zo lang meegaan en tegelijkertijd zo’n constant hoog niveau halen als de groep van frontman Tim Finn. Na het vertrek van zijn broer Tim en de zelfmoord van drummer Paul Hester laste de groep een pauze in tussen 1996 en 2007.

Finn, die in het verleden haast perfecte popliedjes schreef als ‘Four seasons in one day’ en ‘It’s only natural’ laat zijn talent nog eens gelden op de nieuwe plaat die er best mag zijn. ‘Intriguer’ opent met de vlotte single “Saturday Sun” (gratis te downloaden op de site van de groep!) en ook in “Inside Out” laat de groep stevige kant zien. Op het heel knappe “Isolation”, dat uitmondt in een mooie climax, zingt mevrouw Finn een mopje mee en speelt zoon Liam mee op gitaar. De plaat bevat verder een rist kleine pareltjes maar echt grote hits of meezingers ontbreken. De plaat klinkt door het nieuwe Crowded House-geluid modern en eigentijds.

Intriguer is een prima album dat blijft nazinderen maar een aantal beluisteringen (zie onderaan dit artikel eerste clip) nodig heeft om te kunnen groeien.

Richie Hawtin introduces Griid, a modular touch controller for Ableton Live and iPad

Griid premiere at Plastikman Live, Detroit

Griid is proud to have had it’s world premiere performance at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival 2010. Richie Hawtin, performing as Plastikman, took to the stage with two iPads running Griid and made history as the first to use iPad technology on a major festival stage!

Griid is used to trigger clips from an Ableton Live set which trigger musical events as well as visual events in Derivative’s touch designer and lighting. Richie even uses Griid during soundcheck to be able to play his live show remotely from the Front of House mixer, 100 metres away from the stage setup and the rest of his gear!

It seems fitting that we take these steps into the future of technology and performance in a city so important in the history of today’s electronic music scene.
Richie says of the new Plastikman Live setup: “I think this is the beginning of it all, we’ve been testing and testing and here we go tonight!

Muscles from Brussels goes Kitsch in Knokke ! Jean-Claude Van Damme special guest @ 1 year Kitsch Club, friday June 25th

Wat vorig jaar als een tijdelijk zomerproject begon, groeide uit tot een vaste waarde in het Knokse nachtleven. Vandaag viert Kitsch Club zijn 1 jarig bestaan. De kleine club in het Casino van Knokke pakte het afgelopen jaar vaak groots uit. Zo werd de club door het gerenommeerde vokda merk Belvedere uitgeroepen tot aller eerste “Belvedere Flagship Store” in België en Nederland, ook in diverse magazines en internationale blogs werd Kitsch Club aangeschreven als “dé” place to be in België. Redenen genoeg om een feestje te bouwen ! Op vrijdag 25 juni blaast Kitsch Club zijn eerste kaars uit, in aanwezigheid van niemand minder dan Jean-Claude Van Damme!

John Noseda : “Het 1-jarig bestaan van Kitsch Club, was iets waar ik bij de aanvang van vorige zomer nooit had kunnen van dromen, we hadden het project voor een tijdelijke periode gepland, in de toenmalige Prince club ofte ex-dubbels, maar na het onverwacht succesverhaal van de zomer hadden we besloten om het verhaal verder te zetten. We konden onszelf afgelopen winter profileren met een sterke line-up met guests zoals 2 many DJs, Goose, The Glimmers, TLP, Hermanos Inglesos, N8N,… en met originele thema feesten zoals “Fluo Fun Club”, “I Wear My Sunglasses At Night”, “The Wedding Chappel” op Valentijn en “Moustache Club”.

Deze zomer staan er opnieuw enkele leuke party’s op de planning zoals “Wimbledon” op 2 juli, “Who’s The King” op 21 juli en “Bob Marley Is Playing At My House” met TLP op 30 juli. Verder werken we deze zomer opnieuw samen met Le Baron uit Parijs en het Brusselse Libertine Supersport. Ook is er het hippe kledingmerk “Filles A Papa” die hun party bij ons organiseert op vrijdag 6 augustus. Kers op de taart wordt alvast Kitsch Club on the beach op zaterdag 7 augustus op het evenementenstrand in Duinbergen.”

Bart Roman (rechts naast TroubleMan TLP): “Naast het drukke zomerprogramma in de Kitsch Club, staan we ook in voor de uitbating van de A1 Lounge op de hoek van het Van Bunnenplein en de Zeedijk (Ex – Cambridge). De Audi A1 lounge is een tweemaand pop-up concept waarbij de gloednieuwe Audi A1 aan het grote publiek wordt voorgesteld, het wordt een trendy meeting point met een originele drank en cocktailkaart en een exquisite tapas kaart. De A1 lounge zal 7 op 7 open zijn van 11u ‘s ochtends tot1u ‘s nachts, met DJ sets op donderdag, vrijdag en zaterdag.”

Kitsch club is gedurende de maanden juli en augustus telkens open van woensdag tot en met zaterdag en dat telkens vanaf 23h. Gezien de beperkte capaciteit van de club is een reservatie op voorhand vaak aangeraden. Op zaterdag 7 augustus vindt de allereerste editie van Kitsch Club on the beach plaats op het evenementenstrand van Duinbergen. Op de Affiche staan onder meer N8N, Gus & Sense, Hermanos Inglesos en Monsieur Moustache. Kaarten hiervoor kosten in voorverkoop 10 € en kunnen verkregen worden in alle Fnac filialen in België, bij Brooklyn Knokke, Brugge en Oostende en bij Beverly Screens en Billboard in Knokke.

Who Is He ? het funky raw soul debuut van N8N, a.k.a. Nathan Ambach

N8N, lees en zeg ‘Nathan’, ‘N-eight-N’, is het muzikale alias van Nathan Ambach, 26 jaar en tegelijkertijd zanger, artiest, entertainer, DJ, songschrijver en … podiumbeest. N8N stamt uit een muzikale familie (vader Paul Ambach is wereldberoemd als Boogie Boy) en heeft het geluk om van jongsafaan de grote Soul- & Blues-legendes live aan het werk te kunnen zien. Legendes die zijn ziel, stijl en rauw geluid zullen kneden en smeden. Van Ray Charles over James Brown, B.B. King, Bill Withers, Sly Stone, Donny Hathaway tot Michael Jackson. Ze leveren de muzikale mosterd die N8N inspireren voor zijn eigen muziek.

In 2008 acht N8N de tijd rijp om zelf muziek te schrijven en te experimenteren totdat live de kiem groeit van een geluid dat N8N zelf omschrijft als ‘raw soul’. Waarin ‘raw’ N8N’s ‘bluesy’ stemgeluid benadrukt.

De demo’s worden enthousiast onthaald en N8N start de opnames van zijn debuutalbum ‘Who Is He’. Hij mag hierbij rekenen op de hulp van een schare topmuzikanten. Onder andere Toots Thielemans, Daniel Romeo, Leendert Haaksma (Anouk) en DJ Grazzhoppa bieden hun diensten aan en duiken de studio in om ‘Who Is He’ van klank en kleur te voorzien. Amp Fiddler (credits: George Clinton, Prince, Jamiroquai) werkt mee aan drie songs, waaronder de titeltrack ‘Who Is He’.

De eerste single uit ‘Who Is He ?’ is ‘Lost Soul’, een up tempo nummer met een soulvolle riff en aanstekelijke baslijn. Een uitgelezen track voor de Nederlandse soul remixers van Kraak & Smaak die er een extra mix voor producen.

Live staat N8N op het podium met een 7-koppige band en een deejay. De ‘Raw Soul Experience” knoopt aan bij N8N’s stevige live reputatie die hij vergaarde in live-sessies met oa. Aaaaah summer !

How I’ve been longing for you, waiting for you, thinking about you.

It’s supposed to be clear skies and nothing but sun right about now, so you better get your accessories ready.

I know it’s not easy to find the perfect shades, since the range is endless.

And it really doesn’t stop: every year we see new frames, new brands, new shapes, …

But don’t worry, I’m going to give you a small ‘science’ summary in to finding the right pair for you.

It’s all about your proportions.

In other words: What suits your face shape?

Round Face : If the shape of your face is round, then it’s better you avoid circular, small frames, as they will make you appear rounder and wider. Oversized styles with a square shape will help your face appear much slimmer and longer. Balenciaga has some very nice frames. Celeb with round face shape: Keira Knightley.

Heart Shape : People like Reese Witherspoon, who have a heart shaped face, can’t do wrong with round or square frames. They will draw attention to the middle of your face instead of the width at the top. Armani Exchange has some very nice ones for this summer.

One not to miss in that same category is the very nice collabo called MDG : the first collection personally designed by Madonna herself , with Domenico Dolce and Sefano Gabbana. Six styles have been launched so far, including some very nice oversized round frames. You can all check them out, and buy them through the online Verso boutique.

Square shape : Angular faces don’t need those square frames we talked about before. They rather go with something that has curved edges and wrap around-frames that will soften the face a little bit. If you choose shades with a muted color, it will even look better. When we think of celebrities with square shapes, Demi Moore and Angelina Jolie come to mind. Prada has definately something for you.

Long face: Our famous Sex & The City girl, Sarah Jessica Parker fits perfectly in this category. You should steer clear of very thin metal frames, since you will only make your face look longer. Oversized round shapes will add some width, and will suit you best. Label to check out would be Chloé.

Oval face : Women like Kate Bosworth and Gwyneth Paltrow probably have the biggest choice, as most styles will suit their face shape. There’s only one thing here to remember and that’s for people with a small oval face who should avoid outsize frames. We can’t forget about one of the most famous brands, Ray-Ban, whose wayfarer has been out there for more than fifty years now. They extended their collection with so many styles, it would actually be a surprise if you don’t find anything at all.

So we had our little science talk, but it’s also important to think of the colour of your frame.

When you’re blonde, then taupe and cream will certainly add some warmth to your complexion.

Dark haired people can opt for a dark brown or black one, it will only look prettier with your rich hair tone.

The flamed hair beauties, aka the redheads, can follow the rules for blondes and choose something like bronze, gold or chocolate to give a glow to their skin.

Mid-brown hair is going to brighten up when you choose a frame in royal blue, dark grey or dark green.

When you’ve made up your mind, what style to go for, and you look at brands that I told you about in this article, you know they don’t come cheap.

So take your time, and try on as many pairs as possible. Buy the one that makes you look good, and feel good. Think about the occasion, where you wanna wear yours. What looks good on the beach, doesn’t always look good in the city. Beach equals laying in the sun equals tan lines equals avoiding big, oversized frames. Get my drift?

Ready for another hot & housy Ibiza summer ? Defected in the House opening Party @ Pacha, June 5th

And so, after months of speculation, gossip, anticipation, rumours and announcements, the 2010 Ibiza season has finally swung into action with all the unstoppable momentum of a giant rhino on speed. But what with a global recession still tightly squeezing the purses of those would-be travellers to the clubbers Mecca of the White Isle, what would those telling first parties be like? Happily for those worried about the potential thinning of the crowds I can report that I haven’t seen the island this busy and this ready to party in a long, long time…

The infamous Opening parties of the Ibiza season act a barometer by which you can usually predict how the rest of the season will pan out; if busy it usually bodes well for the months ahead, if not, the club and bar owners start to sweat a little in the Ibizan heat at the prospect of trying to convince a less that healthy summer population that theirs is the establishment in which they want dance the night away. Having seen footage from the opening of David Guetta’s F*** Me I’m Famous party I was optimistic; it was ridiculously busy, although Guetta is not such a pop-machine that this was hardly surprising.

The Saturday night Defected party started – as always – with a trip to Mambo to catch the end of a devastatingly beautiful sunset and to get us in the frame of mind you need to be in with the prospect of 7 hours dancing ahead of us. In the car on the way we’d been listening to the Defected In The House Radio Show, for which Simon Dunmore had delivered a special hour-long mix, so we were already tapping our feet in anticipation by the time we arrived on the shoreline of San Antonio. Both Bob Sinclar and Riva Starr – both of whom were playing later at Pacha – were also spinning some tunes for the pre-party, and by the time Bob hit the decks there was already a sizeable crowd outside. Bob started by playing a load of tracks from his Made in Jamaica remix album – with a few Bob Marley originals thrown in for good measure – before upping the pace as the darkness descended with some melodic house numbers. Riva took over and got heads nodding and fingers tapping, but after a quick bite to eat and hooking up an interview with Bob Sinclar it was time to accompany Simon Dunmore to Pacha in time to prepare for the opening set of the party.

Dunmore kicked off the season beautifully, going back to his disco and soul roots and keeping the tempo teasingly low. Timmy Thomas, Imagination, Tom Tom Club, and Kool & The Gang all featured in the first hour before the 4/4 beat took control; a truly exceptional way to start the season. The club filled up faster than I’ve ever seen it before, and by about 1am it was genuinely busy with most people opting to head straight for the dancefloor – pretty impressive when you consider that most people in Ibiza don’t usually hit the clubs until well after 2. The entire place was jumping by the time Dunmore started rolling out the big guns; ATFC’s Bring the Beat Back got an absolutely massive reaction from the packed dancefloor with cheers and whoops of appreciation before the breakdown and a sea of raised arms and pumping fists after. Later, Simon told me that he wanted to stay on for another hour at least, and who could blame him? The reaction he was getting was incredible, but he had to step aside and make way for the night’s headliner, Bob Sinclar.

By the time Bob slipped his first CD into the brand new Pioneer 2000′s the place was throbbing and the dancefloor was insanely busy – just moving around the main room was proving difficult and time consuming. His set was an eclectic mix of straight up dancefloor tracks like his own ‘Russian March’, some cheeky re-edits of fellow producers’ work including an excellent Junior Jack Da Hype re-working and some quick-fire indie mash ups, all of which kept the place jumping for the duration of his three hour set.

Coming on at 5am, Riva Starr had a tough act to follow, and though the crowd inevitably thinned slightly after the great Frenchman left, the vast majority of people stayed and were treated to some no-nonsense tech thumpers from the prolific Italian. His own remix of Dennis Ferrer’s ubiquitous Hey Hey (available on iTunes from Monday) went down a storm, and the final half an hour or so showed how creative a DJ he is, expertly teasing with the horns from The Bucketheads The Bomb before dropping Jaydee’s Plastic Dreams for an incredibly satisfying finale.

And so, right on cue at a minute before 7am Riva killed the sound and sent hundreds of weary but satisfied clubbers on their way. The journey back to the villa accompanied by the first golden beams of sunlight streaking across the cloudless sky was a subdued yet happy one, with everyone needing to catch as much sleep as possible before checking out the much talked about opening party of Luciano’s Cadenza the following day. First test passed with flying colours; now here’s to the rest of the season.
