<media:description>This film reports on work by the Tata Founation supported 'enhancing livelihoods through livestock knowledge systems' (ELKS) project. It explains how ILRI and the Himmotthan foundation have been increasing the availabillity of fodder for dairying in Uttarakhand in India.

ELKS (Enhancing Livelihoods through Livestock Knowledge Systems), a TATA-ILRI partnership project, is an ambitious initiative to generate new livestock knowl¬edge and put the accumulated knowledge directly to use by disadvantaged livestock rearing communities in rural India. ELKS aims to support SRTT and its Allied Trusts and their partners to enhance their capacities to improve livestock based livelihoods in the hilly/tribal areas in Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand by (1) conducting research to fill technical knowledge gaps (2) strengthening institutional mechanisms and (3) facilitating pro-poor policies. This site/portal is developed for Himmottan initiative of the Tata trust in the state of Uttarakhand.
