It is one of the most serious livestock diseases, and has the worst effects in pastoralist areas.
Up to 15% of infected animals die. Milk yields of infected cows drop by up to 90%. Meat production is reduced, and infected draught oxen are less able to work. Existing vaccines have side effects and give limited protection.
Research is underway at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) to develop a more effective vaccine to protect the livestock of pastoralists.yt:video:vM35fjNp2FEvM35fjNp2FEUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwBattling an African cattle killer: Second-generation vaccine against East Coast feverInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2014-02-02T07:56:46+00:002024-02-24T21:14:23+00:00Battling an African cattle killer: Second-generation vaccine against East Coast feverIn this film, Vish Nene, director of the Vaccines Biosciences program at ILRI, talks about new research that is seeking to create a second-generation vaccine against East Coast fever.yt:video:Gr7nHyABmqYGr7nHyABmqYUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwBattling an African cattle killer: Why East Coast fever mattersInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2014-02-02T07:59:48+00:002024-02-22T08:51:01+00:00Battling an African cattle killer: Why East Coast fever mattersHenry Kiara, a veterinary epidemiologist at ILRI talks about the risk posed by East Coast fever and how a vaccine against the disease helps protect cattle in the continent.yt:video:h-IKmaDxUkgh-IKmaDxUkgUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwILRI's Vaccine Biosciences programInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2015-05-10T10:05:27+00:002024-02-23T05:32:50+00:00ILRI's Vaccine Biosciences programBy Vish Nene at the ILRI Institute Planning Meeting, 11-15 May 2015yt:video:KoEf9brwXFcKoEf9brwXFcUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwTony Musoke: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2014-02-04T04:23:02+00:002023-12-27T18:45:24+00:00Tony Musoke: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopAn interview with Tony Musoke, chair of the External Advisory Committee for the Improved Vaccines of the Control of East Coast Fever in Cattle in Africa Project at an inception workshop held 27-29 Jan in Nairobi, Kenya.yt:video:c-qV045zGPQc-qV045zGPQUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwCynthia Baldwin: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2014-02-04T04:25:11+00:002024-02-24T05:34:02+00:00Cynthia Baldwin: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopAn interview with Cynthia Baldwin of the US Agency for International Development on the sidelines of an inception workshop for the Improved Vaccines of the Control of East Coast Fever in Cattle in Africa Project, held 27-29 Jan in Nairobi, Kenya.yt:video:xYbYqUbEkmYxYbYqUbEkmYUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwIvan Morrison: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2014-02-04T04:25:34+00:002024-02-22T03:49:34+00:00Ivan Morrison: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopAn interview with Ivan Morrison of the Roslin Institute on the sidelines of an inception workshop for the Improved Vaccines of the Control of East Coast Fever in Cattle in Africa Project, held 27-29 Jan in Nairobi, Kenyayt:video:IwF8bi3wg3UIwF8bi3wg3UUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwLucilla Steinaa: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2014-02-04T04:25:57+00:002023-12-26T21:56:24+00:00Lucilla Steinaa: Improved Vaccines for the Control of East Coast Fever Inception WorkshopAn interview with Lucilla Steinaa of ILRI on the sidelines of an inception workshop for the Improved Vaccines of the Control of East Coast Fever in Cattle in Africa Project, held 27-29 Jan in Nairobi, Kenya.yt:video:KlOtL6MZHEcKlOtL6MZHEcUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCwVaccine solutions to East Coast fever for smallholder farmers in TanzaniaInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2017-02-18T10:45:57+00:002024-02-28T15:52:28+00:00Vaccine solutions to East Coast fever for smallholder farmers in TanzaniaHenry Kiara, a veterinary epidemiologist at ILRI, explains his work and how it is helping smallholder farmers in Tanzania battle East Coast fever.yt:video:xKJi-EK-CvIxKJi-EK-CvIUC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw8 May 2020 - The race to develop a COVID-19 vaccineInternational Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3Lza_tjzG7gWz5_xCMYCw2020-05-18T07:25:12+00:002024-02-24T21:28:51+00:008 May 2020 - The race to develop a COVID-19 vaccineVish Nene, co-leader of the Animal and Human Health Program at ILRI, gives an update on vaccines and treatment options under development for COVID-19.
