A Thai Inspired Tea and Sandwich Shop in Winter Park

Starting a business is the one of the hardest things to do. Not only does  it take time, effort, and determination, but also a creative and enterprising spirit.   Two years ago, Ping and Pemi worked to create a new and unique tea house in Orlando, with the idea of bringing their culture and food in a classy and modern twist.

One year ago, KrungThep Tea Time opened on the corner of Fairbanks and Ward in Winter Park.  Since then, people have enjoyed their variety of teas and Thai flavor inspired sandwiches. We had a chance to interview them a week ago, and see what inspired them to create the minimalist eatery in Winter Park.

Ping (Pannarint) and Pemi (Pemika) both immigrated from Thailand a handful of years ago and moved to Los Angeles to study.  Pemi also studied a couple years at Full Sail. After a couple years of moving back and forth between there and Orlando, they finally decided to set off on creating a shop.

Carie and Clint’s Wedding

Our first wedding blog in a while!  This past June, Carie and Clint tied the knot at Little Gardens in Lawrenceville, GA, and we had the honor of photographing the celebration! Let’s get to it.

 

Before the Ceremony

 

We started out the day at the Clint’s parents house where the Carie and her bridesmaids were getting ready.  The great thing about working with a friend for their big day is usually there are familiar faces in the crowd, which makes photographing all the more fun.  Rachael a.k.a. The Fashion Cat was the first person we caught up with, since she was doing the bride’s make up for the day!

A couple of our great friends were in the bridal party as well!  Betsy and Sarah whom you possibly have seen in our photos on multiple occasions were two of Carie’s five bridesmaids. Having them around and out of cosplay was such a trip for us. They and Clare, the sister of the bride, Hayley, the sister of the groom, and Stephanie, Carie’s best friend got ready in the room next door.  Usually before the wedding there’s an air of urgency or mild stress, but the sounds of the ladies goofing off made for a really relaxed atmosphere, which I always appreciate. :]

Hey Friends!  Happy Feature Friday! This week we visited Duo 58 Coffee Bar & Cafe! Elysia had found this cute little place on Instagram and suggested I go and try it out. :]

Hidden away in an unassuming plaza in Oviedo, DUO 58 is a warm and inviting space with pallets on the wall and retro light fixtures and string lights hanging from the ceiling. This cafe not only serves great coffee, but also orphan care, education, and health care for Haiti, and work for disadvantaged individuals here in Orlando. I sat down and chatted with manager Sam Veatch and Lisa Puckey about the company!

The Company

 

DUO 58:  DUO actually stands for “Do unto others”, and 58 represents the chapter of Isaiah in which verse 10 states:

“and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
    and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
    and your night will become like the noonday.”

This is the essence of their business. DUO 58 is a non profit company, donating its proceeds from its cafe and catering to Mission of Hope Haiti.

What’s going on, friends?  MetroCon was this past weekend and we got the chance to hang out, take photos, and do a few private sessions on Friday and Saturday! Gallery and recap ahead; let’s get to it!

 

MetroCon is an anime convention held annually in Tampa, FL since 2003.  Along with the standard set of convention features such as dealers room, artists alley, VIPs and panels, MetroCon features multiple costume contests, a photography contest, a living chess match, fire spinning, and raves throughout the weekend!  The last recorded attendance according to Wikipedia was more than 11,000 people!

We took so many hallway shots this MetroCon.  SO. MANY.  We really wanted to meet people since for the last year or two, we spent most of our time doing private shoots. While we love doing private shoots, it’s nice to break out of the routine.  Besides, meeting new people is fun!  Many of the super talented people I met I was already following on instagram, or one my fellow photographers has worked with them before.  You should see all the shots I got in the gallery below!
