I sleep in a Spiderman bed

A month ago, my youngest daughter moved into my bedroom. And she brought her Spiderman bedset with her. I always wanted a Spiderman bed… when I was a kid.

As part of her new bedtime routine, my six-year old daughter tucks me in by reading to me. I love hearing her read to me in her pitchy high voice. And she makes me laugh when she tries to read something she wrote at school, but can’t read her own handwriting.

Mommy sleeps with our toddler so I love having someone to snuggle with at night. However, I don’t like the part when my daughter sleeps sideways and kicks me in the chest. Or the times she slept with her feet on the pillow and kicked me in the head. And I wish she would stop waking me up in the middle of the night to tell me she’s going to the bathroom.

We got our first 70° day on Saturday, then our first 80° day on Sunday. As you can tell in the above photo, the heat was too much for mommy. She was completely out of her mind.

Crazy hair or Medusa?

It was crazy hair day at the kids’ school. My son didn’t take part, but my girls did. In the photo below, my youngest daughter reminds me of Medusa. Look at the way she’s trying to stare me down.

Parents can be stupid when it comes to Easter egg hunts

We took the kids to an Easter egg hunt last Saturday. I’m not sure if I will do this again because I’ve concluded some parents are idiots when it comes to Easter egg hunts. Before the egg hunt started, the organizers warned the parents several times not to go out in the designated area with their kids. Let the children have fun. Didn’t work. As soon as the kids went out to look for the Easter goodies, about a hundred parents went out too. This happened with the event for three to four year olds and again for the event for the five to seven year olds. I don’t mind parents helping their children because my kids don’t really need more sweets. What I didn’t like was that I couldn’t keep track of my children with all the parents surrounding the kids. In fact, one of the moms was crying afterwards because she couldn’t find her child after the hunt was over. Luckily, one of the volunteers found the missing child.

We also had an Easter egg hunt at our house on Sunday, which is what we normally do. While we were out, the sister-in-law hid eggs in our house. I’m not sure which one our kids enjoyed more, but I prefer the Easter egg hunt at our house. It doesn’t give me a heart attack.

A dry day after the wettest March ever

According to the news, last month was the wettest March ever for the city Portland. With all the rain we got, I was beginning to wonder if Portland should change their tagline from City of Roses to Land of Rain, Gloom and Doom. Luckily, April is a new month and we finally got a dry day. Unfortunately, it’s suppose to rain the rest of the week. Ugggh. Hopefully it won’t rain for the rest of the month.

Is it suppose to snow in the spring?

During the winter, we get a lot of snow in the mountains. But we don’t get much snow down here in the valley of Portland, Oregon. So imagine my surprise when I got caught in a snow storm while driving back from an early screening of The Hunger Games [review] last Wednesday night. In all the years I’ve lived here, I don’t remember ever getting snow so late in the year. I feel like I’ve been punked my Mother Nature. At least the kids got to play in the snow this time. But I’m not happy because the little monsters kept throwing snowballs at me when I was trying to take their pictures.

Ever see Forrest Gump? One of the better lines in the movie was, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Same thing applies to my youngest daughter when it comes to taking photos. On the other hand, it does look like she has a fondness for sticking out her tongue at me someone behind me.

Leprechaun or supermodel?

Now she’s a St. Patrick’s Day model. Someday she will either be a spy, or work at a costume shop.
