South Korean super-star, Psy, showed up on the “Today Show” set this morning (Friday, May 3) at New York City’s Rockefeller Center and persuaded beleaguered host, Matt Lauer, to try a little gangnam style.  Lauer’s been dealing with fallout the past few weeks following the publication of  Brian Stelter’s Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. Stelter alleges that former “Today Show” co-host, Ann Curry, was ousted from the show through machinations by Lauer and others. Lauer appeared on Jay Leno’s “The Tonight Show” last night, saying simply that “This has been an interesting year,” maintaining that the “Today Show” is still a contender in the morning TV shows ratings war. Lauer has anchored the NBC show for 18 years

Meanwhile, if Matt Lauer is fighting to stay on top, Psy’s star keeps rising. His trademark “Gangnam Style” is the number one hit in YouTube’s history with over 1 billion views, he released “Gentleman”  last month, live-streaming it to a YouTube audience of 150,000, South Korea named him “Tourism Ambassador” last month, and today Bluewater publishers announced the publication of “Fame: Psy,” a comic book/graphic novel style biography. Psy, whose real name is Park  Jae-sang, is married to Yoo Hye-yeon. They have twin daughters.

The Golden Globes fashion shone this year with lots of bright colors and beautiful gowns. Zooey Deschanel had a manicure done to match her dress, Paula Patton and Maria Menounos were radiant in bright yellow, Michelle Williams and Charlize Theron were among those wearing a headband, more than one gown featured feathers, trains or ruffles, and there were a bevy of dresses in neutral colors too. So, who better to ask who wore the loveliest dresses than the folks who work so hard photographing the red carpet arrivals for us? The blog has been seriously neglected, so lets see if mid-awards season can get it going again. Tonight is the 69th Annual Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globes Awards. The Globes are generally regarded as the major pre-cursor to the Academy Awards with many of the same winners. There’s occasionally a bit of intrigue mixed in with HFPA- but I think that adds to the fun. Morgan Freeman is being awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award this evening.

Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann have added baby number three to their brood. A mere six months ago, the couple adopted Amaya Josephine. They welcomed Andrew Nicolas Hargitay Herman into the family this week. Andrew was born on August 5, a preemie born a few months early.
Mariska and Peter’s eldest son, August (not to be confused with the month his new brother was born), is five years old and has been known to visit the “Law & Order: SVU” set to see his mom.
Late last month, Mariska endowed the Mariska Hargitay Scholarship for Acting Students with a gift of $100,000. The scholarship, to be awarded on need and merit, is available for students at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film & Television.

The 13th season of “Law & Order: SVU” started a few weeks ago with some big changes. Mariska’s character Olivia Benson has lost her long-time partner, Elliot Stabler, and a couple new detectives (Danny Pino as Nick Amaro & Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins) have been added to the cast. A trademark L&O “ripped from the headlines” episode started off the season.

Mariska is the daughter of the Mickey Hargitay and Jayne Mansfield. She married Peter on August 28, 2004. She is one of the top five highest-paid television actresses earning close to $400,000 per episode. She founded the Joyful Heart Foundation in 2004 to aide victims of sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence.

Steve Jobs: 1955 - 2011

One of the world’s great visionaries, Steve Jobs of Apple, passed away today from pancreatic cancer. Apple Computer was formed in 1976 by Steve Jobs along with Ronald Wayne and Steve Wozniak. It grew to become of the most influential computing companies of all time. Jobs may well have been one of the most fascinating people of the 20th century. He held over 330 patents on items ranging from computers to lanyards, and owned NeXT Computers as well as Pixar Animation. He was married to Laurene Powell, with whom he had three children. He also had one daughter from a previous relationship. Jobs was intensely private, going so far as to ban publisher John Wiley & Sons from selling books at any Apple retail operation, due to an unauthorized biography they published of him in 1995. Wiley & Sons finally reached an agreement to sell books for the iPad last year.  His many honors and awards included one of the first National Medals of Technology in 1984, Fortune Magazine named him CEO of the Decade in 2009 as well as the Most Powerful Person in Business in 2007.
Jobs resigned as CEO in August of this year, saying that he could no longer fulfill the demands required as Apple CEO. He was a man who lived life large and full, in time to his own drummer.

Last nights winners included “Mad Men” and “Modern Family,” a tribute to “Two and 1/2 Men” from none other than Charlie Sheen, and at least one person who did not expect to win – and had nothing prepared. Kyle Chandler won Best Actor for “Friday Night Lights” and said “I knew for a fact I would not be standing here. I did not write anything and now I’m starting to worry.” You can see a full list of winners here. There were lots of great gowns on the red carpet and some dapper looking gents as well.

Red was a popular choice last night- Kate Winslet (who won for “Mildred Pierce”) wore Elie Saab, Nina Dobrev rocked Donna Karan, Lea Michele was in Marchesa and Sofia Vergara looked sensational in Vera Wang. Fashionistas in white include Maria Bello wearing an off-the-shoulder Kaufman Franco, Juliana Margolies dressed in Armani Prive and Jane Krakowski looking stunning in J Mendel.
Lots of blue was seen- Claire Danes was elegant in Oscar de la Renta, Kyle Richards wore Ines de Santo and Dianna Agron was dressed in Roksanda Ilincic. Melissa McCarthy- (won an Emmy for “Mike & Molly”) created her own dress- both designing and sewing her gown. You can’t get much more original than that! Critics didn’t care for either Katie Holmes‘ royal blue sheath from Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein nor Olivia Munn‘s jade green Carolina Herrera gown. The dresses may not have been up to par, but the color of both was lovely. Although Gwyneth Paltrow’s Emilio Pucci dress was lovely, some didn’t like her exposed midriff. Eh, what’s the difference between exposed cleavage and a midriff?

Television’s biggest night of the year happens Sunday night with the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards held at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.

Jane Lynch is both hosting and up for an award at Sunday's Emmy Awards.

Lots of events have been leading up to the Emmys. Neil Patrick Harris, a prior Emmy host, received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Los Angeles “Confidential” magazine held a big pre-Emmy party, the Emmy Award writers nominees luncheon and of course there was the “Abduction” premiere with Hollywood favorite Taylor Lautner.

Cameron Diaz is turning 39 today! You may have seen pics of the actress’ baby bump. But she is not expecting- and nor has she gained weight in her belly. It is for her latest role in the upcoming comedy “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” Cameron’s been dating NY Yankee ball player Alex Rodriguez since July of last year.

Warren Buffett, investor extraordinaire is 81 today. Although Warren is one of the three richest men in the world, he lives rather simply and in fact, signed a pledge last December that he would give one half of his fortune away.

Andy Roddick is swinging into his 29th year today. For 7 years, the tennis pro held the record for the fast serve ever at 155 mph. The record was broken only this March by Ivo Karlovic. Andy is married to Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker. He was at one time linked to fellow tennis player Maria Sharapova.
