Her best friend, Sylvie Fowler (Annette Bening), leads another enviable life – a happily single editor of a prominent fashion magazine, a possessor of a huge closet of designer clothes and a revered arbiter of taste and style poised on New York’s cutting edge. Mary and Sylvie’s relationship is tested to the breaking point while their tight-knit circle of friends, including mega-mommy Edie Cohen (Debra Messing) and author Alex Fisher (Jada Pinkett-Smith), all start to question their own friendships and romantic relationships as well.
Cast: Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, Candice Bergen
Director: Diane English
Genres: Comedy Drama, Feminist Film, Ensemble Film, Slice of Life

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; I wanted to use mainstream titles many people would already be familiar with, so chances are you've seen at least a few of these already.

1. The Usual Suspects
Most times a flashback is an undesirable, uncreative tool that takes us out of the storyline and gives the audience time to go to the bathroom. Why then, when half the movie is told in flashbacks, is The Usual Suspects one of the most popular movies of modern cinema? Simple, it beautifully uses the most fundamental device a screenwriter has; the 'need to know.' Within the first few minutes of any story, the audience must be curious about something in it. This story takes place in two areas, the past and the present. Whenever a question is asked in the present, it's answered in the past via flashback narration. Vice versa, when a question arises in the past it's answered in the present via the police investigation. Thus there is never really a 'cutaway' from the storyline.

In the present we want to know: What happened on that boat? Why were these people involved? Who is Keyser Soze?

In the past we want to know: Why are these criminals in cahoots? Who sent them on the heist? Why is Kobayashi manipulating these events?

As the movie progresses the two plotlines come closer and closer together, each revealing truths and twists in the other. The result, a double climax in one unifying scene. The need to know is what drives any storyline, and every scene. Without it the audience won't care what happens and the story will fall flat.

2. Finding Nemo
The first thing you learn in screenwriting class is that every story needs a strong force of opposition to the hero. Finding Nemo has plenty. Marlin is a clownfish, which is not the most fearsome of fish. His opposition includes divers, sharks, exploding mines, a monster anglerfish, a labyrinth of jellyfish, fog, a whale, seagulls, and getting lost more than once. And that's just HIS side of it. There's still Nemo trying to escape the aquarium. Every scene threatens to bring Marlin further from his goal, and he overcomes it. Sure he gets help sometimes, but it's his willful actions that make the story progress.

The best heroes face antagonism which seems impossible to overcome, but isn't. David vs. Goliath, the rebels vs. the Empire, wash-outs vs. pro players. They must also take deliberate action to fight against it. Imagine how boring Marlin's story would be if he just sulked and waited for Nemo to come back safely. Even while trapped in the whale's mouth he's bashing against the baleen to escape, "you tell him I'm not going to be lunch!" People enjoy rooting for active protagonists who willingly pursue their goal, despite overwhelming opposition.

3. Casablanca
I've never had a screenwriting teacher or screenwriting book that hasn't made a direct reference to this movie. There are many things people love about it; strong characters, moving plot twists, the best of many genres, powerful dialogue, and more. What this will focus on though is the methods of building tension.

Casablanca opens in Nazi occupied Morocco. Sure things could be better, but life is more or less in balance for these people. Rick's Café serves as a sort of haven for people waiting to leave the area. Then Rick's old flame shows up (tension) with her husband (more tension). They progressively take turns approaching each other and driving each other away (tension, tension, tension). Now, as if Rick doesn't have his hands full dealing with his problems with Ilsa, the Nazis become more of a threat. They close down the café and become much harder on the locals (bigger tension). Rick helps Ilsa and her husband escape the area as fugitives (very high tension). As they escape, Rick keeps the commander and Renault away with a gun (extreme tension).

If the movie focused mainly on the three of them running from the Nazis, the tension level would be flat and the audience would soon start fidgeting. This is why so many fugitive movies (The Fugitive, Minority Report, Enemy of the State, etc.) have a separate "detective" element where the hero tackles other progressing obstacles instead of just escaping all the time.

We know strong opposition is essential, but we can't bring it all in at once. How boring would a fairytale be if the knight slays the dragon at the beginning? Unless an even bigger, badder villain lies ahead the story's practically over. Opposition must come in increasing waves (or plot points), each one more formidable than the last. This builds tension and will keep the audience in their seats, or on the edge of them.

4. The Godfather
Characters are revealed by the choices they make, and the most potent revelations occur when the character faces a true dilemma. A perfect demonstration of this, and one of my favorite scenes in movie history, is when Michael Corleone chooses to save his family by killing two enemies. From the beginning of the movie it's obvious Michael wants nothing to do with his family's crime business. He's an upstanding Marine, a college graduate, has a close relationship with Kay (whom he intends to marry), and is living a healthy civil life. This is actually a source of friction between him and some of the family members.

Solozzo (a drug dealer) and Capt. Mckrosky (a cop) are powerful figures working for a rival crime family. They are trying to have his father, head of the family, murdered. They actually came close in an earlier scene. Michael has a meeting with them in hopes of negotiating a truce, but he knows that they won't stop until Vito is dead.

Michael now faces a huge dilemma: he wants to continue living as a model citizen, but also wants to save his family. He makes the choice to kill Solozzo and McKrosky, forfeiting one goal to achieve another. True dilemmas like this offer the best dramatic payoff in the end. Deciding whether or not to fight the bad guy isn't a choice. Deciding whether or not to fight the bad guy when you have something to lose, now there's a choice.

Someone chooses to go to work in the morning, so what? Some one chooses to go to work knowing that their enemy is waiting there for them, now we're interested and anxious to see what happens. How the character chooses to resolve this situation will speak volumes about them, much more than what pizza toppings they prefer.

5. Wall Street
If you like Faustian stories then you'll love Wall Street. Bud Fox is a young, low-level stockbroker who's good at what he does and is hungry for the big time. He lands a meeting with financial powerhouse, Gordon Gekko, who takes him under as a protégé. In his search for success Bud lets himself become involved in Gordon's dubious business practices and nearly destroys the lives of those closest to him. In the end he loses his career, most of dignity, and all his professional hopes. Part of what makes this movie so compelling are it's excellent characters. Bud Fox is far from the noble hero. Sure he works an honest job, is good with people, and lives a clean cut life. Then we see him in the meeting with Gordon, where he willingly discloses inside trading information, and later partakes in blatant corporate espionage. He's revealed to be desperate, smug, and self-centered.

On the flip side we have Gordon Gekko, the beacon of wealth and power. Upon meeting him we know that he's a smooth, aggressive player. He openly seduces Bud into his corruption the first time he meets him. We immediately peg him as the typical malicious corporate scrooge. Then we see him behind the scenes, mentoring Bud, his "greed is good" speech, dealing with opposition. He's not hypocritical, there's no malice in his actions. He sees the world as a jungle and he's a lion, and if that means devouring weaker species, so be it.

Wall Street is a prime example of character complexity and how to work it to the best of it's potential. If Bud were the all noble gold-armored hero, and Gordon the moustache twirling, maniacally laughing villain, it would be your typical old-as-dirt good beats evil story. Nothing special.

By: Micah Sells↑
From: ezinearticles.com↑

100 Box Office [US] - Nov 30 - Dec 2

1 [1] Enchanted; Buena Vista Pictures Distribution; $16,403,316 [$70,000,316]
2 [3] Beowulf; Warner Bros. The Variety and the freedom to choose our full version movie downloads are almost endless. Just Google download full version movies and you will get 82,500,000!!! (To date) WebPages, many of them offer to download full version movies for free.

The disadvantage is that the amount of offers you are presented with could be overwhelming. Like going into a huge toy store and try to decide which toy you want to buy. That wouldn't be so bad, especially when you are presented with so many free offers. "Toys you can get for free".... BUT all that "free" stuff offered across the net could be very dangerous for your computer's safety. Downloads from an unknown sources could carry viruses and spyware that could attack your computer and cause great damage.

Another issue that must be addressed and to many of us ignore is the violation of copyright laws. There are quite a few online movie download sites that permit you to download free full version movies but they are illegal. It is of outmost importance to only download copyright free and piracy free movies.

To enjoy all the current, high quality full version movies downloads I highly recommend signing up for the credited and well established Paid Online Movie Sites. Yes, its not free, but for a one time membership fee which is about 45$ - 50$ you can download unlimited full version movies including the most current ones as well as get full access to all their archives of games and music – all legal.

Checking various free movie download sites I also found the movies to be of low quality and in many cases the download speed was very slow. Paid movie download sites, on the other hand, offer superb quality movies and the download speed is much faster.

If you want to download full version movies I highly recommend paid movie download sites.

By: Eyal Barzilay↑

From: ezinearticles.com↑

Top Horror Movies

This particular movie genre is often confused and misrepresented. While it has many fans across the world, several films which fall in different categories are placed under the "horror" label and they are accepted by the general public. Sites which should provide a good definition of horror, such as the site with the same domain name, features movies such as "Pan's Labyrinth" in such genre which is absolutely erroneous. Movies such as Pans's Labyrinth fall within the "Fantasie/Sci-Fi" genre which has nothing to do with horror.

To have a better idea of what this particular genre involves we can define horror films such as: "films that are designed to elicit fright, fear, terror, or horror from viewers. In horror film plots, evil forces, events, or characters, sometimes of supernatural origin, intrude into the everyday world."

Keeping this definition in mind, the best horror movies tend to leave a certain impression in the viewer. Movies such as "Hostel" or "Saw", while they are very cool in their own "gory way" fail to deliver the after effects of a good horror movie, for instance, after watching any of the previously mentioned films, an average horror movie fan would go to bed like nothing ever happened, however, if the same viewer were to see a good foreign horror movie such as "The Ring - AKA Ringu" or "Dark Water", right at the time to turn off the lights and go to bed, an overwhelming feeling of fear takes over; and that's exactly the way we know that the movie we have seen is a great "horror" movie.

Films which show a great deal of killing are "disturbing" but we all know that if a killer were to attack any of us we'd have a way to fight back, after all, regardless of how twisted a killer might be, he/she is still human. On the other hand, films which portray evil spirits, ghosts, apparitions and demons are a whole different story; what is really frightening to us humans is the fact that if we were in the actor's shoes we'd realize that "There is absolutely NO way to fight back against these forces", and relying on a sacred object is not as reassuring as having a weapon which we know is going to injure or vanish whoever or whatever is after us, of course this is all figurative speech, we are just illustrating a point!

Asian horror movies tend to deliver the right blow as far as horror movies go. Since not much is invested in "special effects" they focus their efforts towards 'the story' which is way more effective and leaves a stronger impression. All of the movies mentioned below were so good that each had an english remake, which had visual effects improvements in the remake but as many hardcore-horror movie fans can tell, the story might have been ruined which fails to deliver the horrifying effects (in the viewers) compared to the original. Good examples of such movies are:

Ringu: This is also known as "The Ring". The story revolves around a girl's death story and the way she was apparently killed by her own parents, then thrown into the depths of a well where she now lives, and escapes into the real world through a cursed video tape in order to take revenge and kill people.

Dark Water (Honogurai mizu no soko kara): This is a particularly exceptional Japanese production which shows bone chilling scenes of a little girl who all she ever wanted was to have a mother, even after death! The title describes part of how she died and the element she used to haunt people.

Ju-On: The title translates to english as "The Curse of the Grudge". This particular movie has no happy ending compared to American movies where the vengeful spirit is exorcised at the end. The story revolves around a house where a mother and a child were murdered by the father, and the way that these spirits come back to hunt whoever who lies within the walls of this residence.

Very few american movies have taken the horror movie making factors into their own productions. The very best example we have of a good english horror movie is "Silent Hill" which was derived from a video game but had a terrific story and amazingly frightening special effects. Besides such rare movies, asian films know how to deliver bone chilling productions relying mostly on good story telling rather than gory scenes and visual effects. Other Asian movie recommendations are: A tale of two sisters, Phone, Premonition, Uzumaki, The Cure.

By: Ivan Cuxeva Jr.↑

From: articles-heaven.com↑

Step by Step to Download Free Movies

So you've brought your new computer and you want to download some movies for it. Where can you go though for a reliable site? There are so many sites out with many of them being unreliable or downright scams. To help you in making the right decision there are several sure fire things you can do to help you in choosing the right product and prevent yourself from being ripped off.

You should choose a program where you can have access to other types of media. The site you choose should also have access to Games, Music, TV Shows, and downloading software - all with the simple click of a button.

Make sure you choose a site that does not have a monthly subscription fee. Ongoing monthly payments can add up to large amounts over time. Ensure your site has a once off payment for unlimited access and that there is the option for a refund if you are unsatisfied with the product.

Choose a site that has fast unlimited 24/7 downloads. You don't want to be waiting hours for a product to download or find out just at the end that it won't complete the download. Also ensure that the site has a customer service center incase something goes wrong with the product. The best sites have 24 hour phone lines with customer service people ready to help you out.

Good sites will also have CD burning software embedded in them to help you out with managing the files that you will download.

If you want a highly recommended movie downloading site that contains all the current movies, music, games, TV shows and more then click here now to find out more and start downloading the programe.

By: Debra Miller↑

From: ezinearticles.com↑

Online Movie Rental Future

Since 1999, movie fans have had the luxury of selecting movies for viewing from the comfort of their home computer and then receiving them at their door through the mail.
Online movie rental services allow users a huge selection and affordable prices as well as convenience. Perhaps the only drawback to these services has been the wait between returning movies and receiving the next ones in the queue.

It appears that those movie fans who prefer more immediate gratification may soon see the method of movie delivery begin shifting in their favor. Netflix announced early in 2007 on their website that they were beginning to phase in electronic delivery of movies to their subscribers. Switching service over to internet delivery exclusively will take a number of years as the online movie rental service has over 85,000 titles to its credit and the readiness of many consumers and the film industry is still a step behind. However, some current subscribers began seeing 1,000 titles available for immediate viewing in January 2007 with additional subscribers having the service added each week through the remainder of 2007.

In its infancy, the new Netflix "Watch Now" feature allows viewing of movies on personal computers/laptops that have a high speed connection and a Microsoft Windows operating system. However, the company reports that the future goal is to make their movies available on all internet connected screens; for instance on cell phones, iPods and computers with Apple OS.

The electronic delivery offered by Netflix offers some advantages over many download services as it is a real-time playback technology and allows viewers to begin viewing films as they are received versus waiting for the download to occur. Although meeting the demand for greater immediacy is a primary advantage to the Netflix "Watch Now" option, some convenience features will be welcomed by subscribers as well. After a 60 second browser applet installation, subscribers will even be able to pause and move forward within films using a simple position bar, giving viewers greater control.

Current subscribers to the Netflix online movie rental service have access to view up to 48 hours of films per month on the internet streaming service based on the plan in which they participate; the more films per month included in their plan, the more streamed movies they will be able to view. There is no additional charge for viewing streamed movies versus those delivered through the traditional mail method.

Obviously, this news offers current Netflix customers a great new option for getting movies delivered into their home. For those who aren't current customers it certainly demonstrates that the future of online movie rental is firmly headed in the direction of electronic delivery.

By: Christine Peppler↑

From: articles-heaven.com↑

Best Asian Movie

Asian film productions tend to be extremely original due to the vast history and traditions which makes their culture. The Asian continent is often thought to be a different world due to their language, ideology and massive amount of people which counts for one third of the world's population, so there is a lot of tales and stories yet waiting to be told.

To mention the best Asian films we will use different categories such as action, horror and animation. This last genre has become extremely popular due to the artwork quality as well as the original and interesting story lines. Animation is often thought to be a "child-aimed" genre which is true in the American market but when it comes to Asian productions, animation goes a long way and diversifies from "child-aimed" productions to psychological movies and series which are aimed to an young-adult/mature audience, for instance: Monster (series), Death Note (series-movie), etc.

Asian movies have yet another strong characteristic, most of them feature great opening and ending songs (OP & ED) and the soundtracks are great as well. Some examples of terrific Asian films which were introduced to the market recently are:

- So Close (2003): This is an action movie and perhaps one of the best foreign productions which can be compared to "Charlie's Angels" without actually copying a single fact. The fighting sequences and female action were beautifully performed by Shu Qi, Zhao Wei and Karen Mok. The ending song which is also featured in part of the film is called "Close to You" which was originally performed by the Carpenters, however, the remake was flawless.

- Ringu (1998): Asian productions also include several bone-chilling movies which are mostly focused on the story and suspense rather than visual effects and gore; that is the main difference between American Films and Asian horror films. This is a 2 part film which quickly became the favorite film of many horror movie aficionados. The story line revolves around a mysterious film which kills its viewers 7 days after they saw it and the past of Sadako.

- Ghost in The Shell: This is truly an animation masterpiece, GITS Innocence as well as the two parts series revolves around a future where cybernetics and humans are combined through fully prosthetic bodies which brings up the theory of 'ghosts living inside a shell'. The plot lines are very complicated and require moderate analysis by the viewers for the situations to be completely understood which attracts intelligent adult viewers who love sci-fi psychological thrillers.

Asian movies would make a great addition to foreign movies fans due to their diversity and interesting stories.

By: Ivan Cuxeva Jr.↑

From: articles-heaven.com↑

Movie clips are those clips that are available free of cost

Free movie clips are those clips that are available free of cost over the Internet. These clips can be downloaded from the website, which offers them without any charge. Free movie clips are generally released to popularize upcoming movies by providing the audience a sneak preview of the main attractions in the feature film, be it its special effect or its music. Releasing a movie clip over the Internet has become a useful marketing strategy for studios.

Free movie clips are released both in video and audio format. The main platforms targeted for free video clips include computers and laptops, which can be used to directly download these clips from the Internet and which already have pre-installed programs to view them. The other viewing platforms that can be used to view movie clips include cellular phones and portable video players, most of which do not have the capacity to download these clips directly.

In case of free audio clips, the main platforms that can be used to play these are cell phones and other music devices such as MP3 players and iPods. A simple method of downloading free audio and video movie clips to devices that cannot download them directly is to first download the clip on your computer and then transfer it to the device, using a data cable or any other transfer method such as blue-tooth or infra red transfer.

Before downloading free movie clips, it is advisable to confirm whether the website offering them is legitimate. This is important, since downloading movies or movie clips from an illegal or unauthorized website is a crime under the federal law.

As a part of their marketing efforts, most studios create a unique website for each movie that they release. Short clips of the movie are usually available for download on these websites.

Movie Clips provides detailed information on Movie Clips, Free Movie Clips, Animation Movie Clips, Movie Sound Clips and more. Movie Clips is affiliated with Free Streaming Videos.

By: Steve Valentino↑

From: ezinearticles.com↑

Movie Review: Bee Movie

Barry B. When you think of free movie downloads, the first thought that springs to mind is not high quality DVD's or digitized adaptations of movies you can attain; instead, what comes to mind when someone references free movie downloads is they are going to save them a great deal of money. Clearly, the term has quite by nature become synonymous with saving money on the great American pastime. There are an astonishing number of Internet Web sites that do just that, they offer free movie downloads, or movie downloads at an amazingly low cost. The number of movie lover's downloading free movies appears to be on the rise. And to meet this demand, the number of sites that offer free movie downloads for users who want to get superb movies for the cost of a membership has risen exponentially. And why not, a lifetime of movies for the miniscule cost of a membership is a fantastic deal, although there are some consumers who become irate and start screaming false advertisement upon finding out about the small membership fee. My answer to them is, while there is a small membership fee, their dollars are not paying for their lifetime of free movies. Can you imagine what costs are involved in running a movie membership site. The servers and software needed aren't free or cheap, the time involved to keep it going plus employee's fees. I know I wouldn't work for free, would you? There is also a non-stop flow of new movies, new music, new games, new software and a lot more being added to the archives for you to download. All of the better free movie download memberships don't only give you movies to download for free. I'm sure there are a great deal more expenses involved that I am not aware of. What I'm trying to say is, while there is a small fee involved, it helps pays for the expense of keeping your club (membership) going. Your lifetime of movie downloads are indeed free. For reviews of the best membership sites where you can find millions of free movie downloads available, head on over to Movies, Music, Games & More. With their huge archive of movies, the movie download sites reviewed will surely have all of your favorite movies and are the perfect choice when you're looking for movies to download for free. Read the reviews - make your choice - search through their movie archives from A-Z and start downloading movies - download your movies in minutes.

From: ezinearticles.com↑

Saw IV #1 Box Office This Week

Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead. They found that around two-thirds of the two thousand 18-24 year olds surveyed cared not at all about punctuation, spelling and grammar when composing e-mail.

This overly casual attitude to e-mail seems to be quite widespread — and not just among 18-24 year olds. Much of the e-mail I receive (from both friends and business colleagues) is poorly written. Now this may be defensible in personal correspondence, but sloppy writing has no place in business.

Remember, you're judged on the way you write.

In a face-to-face meeting, you'll be judged on your looks, height, clothing, perceived wealth, accent, social class and a whole host of other features. While we tell our children not to judge a book by its cover, the reality is that we do exactly that every day of our lives.

When reading a piece of correspondence from someone you haven't met face-to-face, though, none of these factors are present. You have only one thing with which to form an impression of them — their writing.

So, in this twenty-first century world of increasingly faceless communication, your writing is more important than ever. I'll say it again: you're judged on the way you write, so write well.

betterwritingskills.com↑

Book Alternatives

The e-book has been a long time in coming. Way back in the 1980s, when the Personal Computer was in its infancy, we were told that the logic was inescapable: now that ordinary people could read text on a screen, then the days of the printed page were numbered. There was a better way. After all, the Personal Computer - we were assured - would soon be in every office, in every home, and it would give everybody access to the biggest library in the world, in digital form. In the future, so the story went, you would walk into someone's new house and the most striking feature would be that there would be no bookshelves. There would be no need for any! All data would be stored on disks, out of sight.

From: goarticles.com↑

Write Fastly

So how can you fast-write a book? The answer is that there are multiple ways. You can write it yourself. You can have it ghostwritten. You can coauthor it. You can dictate it. You can interview your way to a book.

Writing Yourself
Before you write a book, have a soul-storming session with yourself, friends or Mastermind group and write out as many titles as you can. Include areas of interest you’d like to write about. Plan to review and add to this list regularly.

Write what you know. Surely you have a signature story that you frequently tell to the delight of listeners. Use that to get your mental juices flowing. Don’t try to be perfect. Remember, nobody ever publishes their first draft!

You don’t have to sit down and write a book today or tomorrow. Take it one step, or sentence, at a time. Write a little each day and watch your book develop.

Hiring a Ghostwriter
Almost all celebrities and people of fame have ghostwriters who interview them and do the “heavy lifting” for them in writing their books. Inexpensive ghostwriters can be found in a multitude of places. For instance, ask other authors if they know great ghostwriters, every English department head will cheerfully tell you who the students are with great talent and promise, and, in Hollywood, the Screen Writers Guild is loaded and overflowing with talented writers who are hungry for work.

Sample their work before you sign a contract. Many are superb, we are told. You dictate what you want written; and they write it, research it, and finish it for you.

Co-Authorship is Wonderfully Beneficial
Co-authorship is another way to get your book out of you and do it fast! It keeps you dedicated to your writing, publishing, and marketing assignments, because you don’t want to let down your colleagues, friends, co-authors and future readers. As a result of our co-authorship partnership, we wrote 100 books in 95 days, a feat that has never been achieved in the publishing industry anywhere on earth, and we had a tremendous amount of fund doing it!

Dictate Your Book
Many would-be great writers don’t have the desire to physically write, type, or compute, yet they could master the fine art of dictation. Again, you can hire a great assistant to transcribe and perfect your dictation.

The software from Nuance is called Dragon NaturallySpeaking and claims to have 99% accuracy after training. Alternatively, you could use www.idictate.com (very inexpensive); and send your dictated files from your computer to theirs in India. Or call your dictation in daily by phone over Skype.com for free.

The possibilities for how to do it obviously keep expanding as an increasingly literate world becomes hungry for information, insight, and wisdom.

You Could Interview Experts and Put Their Thinking into Your Books
Interviewing experts is another way to fast-write a book. This is what Napoleon Hill did to write a book called Think and Grow Rich. It has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. (It is becoming a major motion picture directed by Martin Dunkerton, and it will feature Mark Victor Hansen.)

You can interview the leaders of any field and turn it instantly into money-making books, CDs, videos, movies, documentaries, or whatever. As Hill’s title says, “Think! And grow rich!”

From: easyarticles.com↑

© eghy.
