Article 2: Ethical Bribes - 10 Most Effective Client Attraction Device Giveaways

One of the quickest ways to build your email marketing list is by creating an ethical bribe, or what I refer to as a client attraction device. This free giveaway serves to entice visitors to your site to sign up for your email list because they want to access your solution to their problem proffered in your email list opt-in box.

What are the two most important characteristics of an effective client attraction device? It must provide the solution to at least one of the problems of your target market and utilize the keywords that your target market might use when seeking this type of solution. Secondly, your offering must have a high enough perceived value that your visitors would be willing to pay for it.

I routinely opt into many lists just to get the client attraction device. More times than not, the giveaway is simply a long reiteration of a problem, with the solution being available for purchase on the web site. This is the WRONG way to introduce yourself to prospects. Don't be afraid to share some solutions with your prospects -- it's part of developing the Like, Know and Trust factor with them. If you are truly an expert in your field, the info you share for free is only the tip of the iceberg of the variety of solutions you can provide to your prospects.

What is the easiest way to create your own client attraction device? Here are 10 ideas that you can use to package your information into a valuable ethical bribe for your web site:

1. Audio of a presentation. Hold a teleclass on a particular topic and record it, or simply record a presentation with audio recording software on your computer. An audience isn't necessary for a good recording -- it is quality content that is the key.

2. Interview of an expert. Request to interview a noted expert in your target market. Ask the expert questions, or pull questions from a pre-assigned list you've been given. Record the interview and have it transcribed to create a two-part giveaway.

3. Special report or ebook. A special report is simply a short PDF report that runs between 2-5 pages. You can create this pretty easily by writing an article that's 1500-2000 words. Typically an ebook is longer than a special report, combining several articles, or topics, to make a more complete overview of a topic. Format it to be easily read and add a bio page and and upsell page and your report is complete.

4. Checklist. A checklist is a 1-2 page PDF file that walks someone through a to-do checklist to complete a task. To create a checklist, simple outline the steps required to complete a particular task and insert a checkmark box in front of each so that the user can print out the list and mark off the steps as they are completed.

5. Video. Using video to promote your business is one of the hottest Internet marketing strategies today. You can create an info video that is a training or tutorial video made by using video screen capture software, or record yourself answering questions or presenting a topic with an inexpensive video camera. Upload it to your site or to one of the video hosting sites, and you've got a new client attraction device to give away.

6. Software. For as little as $50, you can hire a programmer to create a simple piece of software to help your prospects automate a task or solve a problem. Another option is to buy a license for some inexpensive software that you can then distribute as you wish.

7. Rolodex (Resources) list. Once you have developed a relationship with your prospects, invariably you will get asked to make recommendations for vendors to perform certain tasks. Because this list is valuable in that you have already gone through a number of services to find just the right provider and are thus saving your prospects hundreds of dollars and hours of time, create a list of these providers in a PDF document.

8. Templates. Templates are another time-saving device that prevents your prospects from having to reinvent the wheel. Package together templates you regular use, like templates for telephone followup calls, emails, email newsletters, to-do list, budgets, etc. Anything that will let your prospect use as a model for developing her own version will be greatly appreciated.

9. Worksheet/workbook. Sometimes information is better delivered in a format where the prospect can jot down ideas, answer questions, or brainstorm. A PDF worksheet or workbook is the ideal format for that to happen. Create a document with a series of questions and space to answer the questions, along with a bit of introductory text to set up the question, and you've created a useful workbook.

10. Ecourse. An ecourse is a series of emails that deliver information over a specific course of time via email. Your ecourse can last as short as 3 days or as long as 52 weeks. Once you pick a topic, simply determine the number of points that you want to make as you discuss the topic, and then create an email that thoroughly explains each point. Put the emails together in a sequence in your email marketing program and you have an ecourse.

If you simply request visitors to opt into your ezine list or your blog list, you're not maximizing the work that your web site can do for you. Add a client attraction device to your opt-n box and watch your list grow!

Article 2: How to Write the Perfect Web Directory Submission

Backlinks are perhaps the most important aspect of SEO, and historically the best way to get these was through web directory submissions. Although there are now plenty of other ways to get these essential backlinks web directories can still play a valuable role in your website promotion efforts. However, with literally thousands of available web directories it's important that you focus only on those that will benefit you - directories with poor editorial guidelines have little to no value, either for the effect of the backlink on your search engine rankings or the direct traffic they might send.

Regardless of whether they offer free or paid listings the directories that Google gives authority to are all stringently edited by real people. While strict submission guidelines mean that it's more difficult to get your website listed in these authority directories, if you *are* lucky enough to get accepted your website details will appear alongside the listings of other quality websites.

When applying to authority directories the quality of your submission serves as an indicator to editors about what they can expect when they review your website. While a well written submission can greatly improve your chances of being accepted, an editor is likely to reject a poorly written submission out-of-hand. As a directory owner myself I can attest that only about 10% of submissions make it into my directory, but if you follow the common-sense advice here you will greatly increase your chances of inclusion.

Firstly, you need to make sure that your website is finished and has no broken links. You shouldn't even consider submitting to directories if your website is "under construction" or has navigation or hosting problems - address these issues first or you will be wasting your time and your website may be blacklisted from future submissions.

Next, make sure you only submit to directories that are appropriate to your website. I run a free travel links directory and every day I receive submissions from websites totally unrelated to travel and tourism. In cases like these not only do I delete the submission, but I also ban the IP address of the submitter so that they cannot submit in the future, regardless of whether future submissions are relevant or not.

Once you're sure your website is appropriate for a directory you need to find the right category to submit to. By choosing carefully you'll make sure that directory users can find your listing easily and your backlink will be surrounded by keyword rich descriptions of other similar websites, improving the relevance of your backlink, which is beneficial for SEO purposes.

The title you provide for your listing should ideally be the name of your website. I know how tempting it can be to use keyword rich, generic search phrases for your title, but it's unlikely that your submission would be pass editorial review.

Likewise, your description should be grammatically correct prose, not a string of comma separated keywords. It's perfectly fine to use keywords, and they are in fact essential from a marketing perspective, but first and foremost your site description should be useful to visitors to the directory. There's a fine art in tweaking your description for the perfect balance between keywords and useful text.

If there is a "keywords" or "tags" field available you can put all your keywords here, but don't repeat keywords multiple times - although the directory software might remove duplicates it's a sure sign of desperation and a warning signal to editors that your website uses "spammy" marketing techniques.

Finally, once you're confident that you've submitted a quality listing you might need to check your email. Many directories won't queue your submission for editorial approval until it has been confirmed by email, and some will automatically delete submissions that remain unconfirmed after a set period. Directory editors make full use of the tools available to them to reduce the number of spammy and poor quality submissions they have to wade through, so unless you confirm via email there's a good chance that your submission will never even be reviewed.

So, now that you know how to write the perfect directory submission why not put it into practice and get yourself some authority backlinks? Lists of quality directories with high PageRank can easily be found with an online search, and if you're promoting a travel or tourism related website you can start by submitting to my travel links directory.

Sitemaps

There are two types of site maps: the content index and the search engine index defined as the Sitemap with an uppercase "S".

This article is concerned with the search engine. We want to tell the spiders and crawlers how to read our site.

Site Index

The content index is a document that lists content for visitors to your site. A link is displayed on your web pages that will take your visitor to this index and displays a listing of your site content. Some people call this a "sitemap" but it's really a part of the navigational menu, an extra page on the site.

Map Creation.

HTML tags communicate the important structural information about your site. The information is summarized using tags and makes it easy for the spiders and crawlers to digest.

Indexing.

To make sure that your entire site is indexed, the xhtml Sitemap document is necessary.

You probably thinking, "What the heck?".

Probably my biggest frustration is attracting enough highly qualified prospects to my business.

The first issue is highly qualified. I know that if I have the opportunity to speak to enough highly qualified people, I will attract leaders and producers into my business. This has been proven over the years in several different businesses. Leaders and producers want to work with leaders and producers. No top level business person seeks out the inexperienced newbie to join his/her team. That is just a fact. Even Aaron Parkinson said that when he attended his first live event he sat with someone who said they had been in x number of months and did not have a sale. Aaron got up, picked up his food, politely excused himself and left.

Noted business experts have stated that there is never a long line waiting to speak to the person at the bottom of the mountain.

People want to work with successful leaders. Until I had success of my own, I leveraged the success of my sponsor. If you and your sponsor are both new then leverage the success of your sponsor's sponsor. If necessary, go all the way up the chain and leverage Jay and Aaron. People want to work with someone who knows how to "get it done."

Once you have your own success story, the next step is absolutely self-branding. You can do that in any number of ways: web 2.0 (social networking) where your picture, your video, your story, your voice create an image of you as a person and a leader. Social networking is the "new kid on the block." It is the new media for reaching out and touching vast numbers of people. Is there a learning curve? Of course. Every form of marketing has a learning curve. If you don't believe that, you are either genius or delusional. How long or short that learning curve depends on your prior experience, desire to plunge in and learn, and perhaps your financial ability to seek qualified help to shorten the curve. In any case, you want to attract top quality. In order to attract top quality, you must be top quality.

Everyone has strong points. Learn to bring yours out in such a way that others will be attracted to you. You have successes in your life. You have accomplishments. Express them openly and honestly. Don't embellish, but don't put yourself down either. Be honest. Look at yourself through objective eyes and see yourself for the great person that you are. Others will be attracted to honesty and accomplishment. Whatever you have already accomplished is still a goal of someone reading your story or seeing your video. Don't be afraid to express your goals. They will follow you not only for where you have been but also where you are going.

The world constantly alternates between a desire for quality and quantity. Once you have the quality, expand what you are doing to attract more quantity. Keep going, never quit. Tweak the process. Do more of whatever works best. Sounds simple, it is basic.

Article 1: Google - We Know Who You Are and We Know What You Like

As of 11 March 2008 Google began to roll out its "Interest Based" advertising engine. The new system is aimed at providing what Google calls "more interesting ads".

AdSense = Immediate Interest

AdSense Google's current advert delivery system serves adverts on Google and its partner sites (Google's Content Network). AdSense ads are flighted based on a surfer's immediate interest. Google guesses the browser's immediate interest based on the content of the current page being viewed.

Thus if you happen to be browsing a home improvements site and you land on a page that explains how to use a power drill, AdSense will display adverts with products and services based on home improvements and maybe even drills on special offer. This guesswork has a good chance of being correct.

But immediate interest is not abiding interest. Our surfer could be a lady executive looking to buy her husband a new drill for Christmas and the drill is only her very brief and immediate interest.

Interest Based Advertising = Abiding Interests

Core to the way the new system works is a profile of your interests. Google builds up your personal profile over time. Your profile is based on the kind of sites you regularly visit. Google then shows you ads based on your profile. This is called behavioural targeting.

Your profile is available to you at any time. Go to Google dot com/ ads/preferences to view your personal profile. You can also adjust your profile, by adding or removing areas of interest. You can also choose to opt out of having ads shown to you based on your previous browsing experiences.

This type of behavioural targeting advertising will give advertisers the capability to deliver ads that are filtered by various interest categories. Google has developed a web site that allows advertisers to login and manage their Interest Based ad campaigns.

How It Works

Let's say you are a keen cyclist. Google's engine will over time be well aware of your cycling interests, because you often visit sites like Cycling News and Cycling Today and Tour de France results etc. So not only will Google know that you are interested in cycling but it will probably be specific enough to know that you are a road cycling person and not at all interested in mountain biking.

Thus when your surf the net Google will consult your behavioural history and try to show you cycling based ads even when you are not browsing a cycling site.

Choice is Yours

Google Says You Have Choice and Control. This means that you can go the preferences link (above) and add or adjust your preferences using Ads Preferences Manager. You can also opt out of the system altogether.

Opinion

The way the system has been implemented seem quite fair to me. I suppose that many observers will get upset by some perceived invasion of privacy issues. No other behavioural advertising systems allow you to view the data assembled about you. Nor is there one that goes so far as to provide tools for you to adjust how it interacts with you or and even allows for you to opt out completely.

I would be surprised if the system does not quickly become something we are very comfortable and familiar with. A system that we end up relying on to deliver us interesting offers and products that we would normally have missed out on.

Article 2: Internet Marketing Phenomenon - The Rise of the 9-5 Entrepreneur

In a recent article in the highly respected Sunday Times, the Business Section featured an insight story into the significant growth of enterprising individuals starting businesses in their spare time while keeping their day jobs. In this review article, the author identifies many of the similar characteristics which are introducing the world of internet marketing to progressive entrepreneurs.

As individuals seek to provide second income streams and more security around their career prospects, a whole new breed of business start-ups are being launches. Fueled by fears about the economy, the difficulty of raising bank finance, and the potential offered by latest technologies, a new wave of entrepreneurs are running their own companies while holding onto full time jobs.

This new category of business innovator- referred to as the '5-9ers' because they run their businesses from 5pm to 9pm - can maintain a regular income until their new business ventures reach a point where they can give up the full time job and enjoy the security and reward of being their own bosses.

For this group, the ability to launch a new business without having to take major financial risk out weighs some of the disadvantages like lack of personal leisure and social time and the inability to devote one hundred percent of their time to their company.

Of these, two/thirds plan that the businesses they are starting will become big enough and profitable enough to enable them to move to running them full time within one year. This is a hugely exciting statistic for budding internet marketers.

It is clear that the continuing emergence of progressive technologies which support outsourcing, home working and remote internet access are fueling the market for new home based entrepreneurs. A number of the people interviewed for The Times article confirmed that they have outsourced many processes as well as made use of hand held computing devices and services like Skype to provide effective online access and low cost communication.

According to Enterprise Nation, a home business website, people are building businesses along side their full time role to ease themselves out of employment and into self employment. This is generally regarded as the best way to launch a business because it keeps cost and risk low and allows the entrepreneur to build confidence whilst generating cash flow.

Indeed, such as the growth of the five to nine phenomenon that from September 2009 Staples, the office supplies group will start testing a business club aimed at people who are running their own ventures in the evenings and at weekends. This club will offer discounts on products and there are plans to hold special events for 5-9ers in Staples stores, such as question-and- answer sessions with business experts and technology trainers

As retailers, commentators, journalists and other business groups continue to appreciate the significant growth in the home based industry, so the opportunities for internet marketing professionals will only magnify.
