I promised to show how I look like in a traditional Norwegian dress “bunad” – the type we use for big events like weddings, confirmations and 17th of May – Norwegian Independence Day – hey that’s today.

The dresses are made to be worn from age 15 till death – so it ca be changed in the waist ( my aunt has had hers for nearly 50 years!). It’s hand-sewn, with lovely embroidery and silver decorations – and it can cost up to 40 000 NOK! I don’t have one my self but I have borrowed a plain one from my sister(it’s a Hulderdrakt) but here is some details from my sisters dresses – they have different ones – the white is a Jærdrakt and the blue one is a Oslobudnad.

by the way if I get a bunad I hope to get this one. These pictures was taken earlier this month when I visited my oldest sister in West Norway and we celebrated my nieces confirmation. Today you can find many people including my little A in national costume celebrating the day – I’m off to the Norwegian church here in Copenhagen – pictures from there coming up later on the Facebook page.

Although we live in Copenhagen we will be celebrating it traditional sense. First off to big brunch with 8 other babies and their parents. It’s a pot luck and I’m bringing my tun salad. Then we’re marching, screaming “hurrah” together with the very large Norwegian community here in CPH; all ending in singing of the national anthem and consumption of loads of Norwegian food at the Norwegian sailors church. Most people will be in National costume but I haven’t got one as they are very pricy, but you can see me in the one I borrowed from my sister last weekend on the blog tomorrow.
Little A will be in his baby version and look fantastic. And I’ll be in my blue Karla’s Forbindelse dress as red, white and blue is the colors for us without National costume. Can’t wait to see what he thinks of it all – although he can celebrate in the normal kid way – with plenty of ice cream, soda, hot dogs and candy – but next year I hope we can do that and that time waving at the king in Oslo.

Norwegian Rain is a small designer label from the rainiest city of Europe (Bergen, Norway). They have won so many prices and I can see why – I adore the tailor style and the way the rain gear don’t look like rain gear.

Hi-tech, recycled fabrics from Japan, seam sealing and techniques from the extreme rainwear industry – Norwegian Rain’s garments conceal some of the highest level of weather protection available. Traditional men’s tailoring, clean cut aesthetics and draping with hints to the purity in Japanese dressing traditions keep the functionality in each piece visually understated.

And I have to say I have a weakness for men with a good beard….

We have driven from Oslo back to Copenhagen today so pretty tired and desperate for a cup of coffee (!) In that regards I wanted to show you something I discovered in my mums house. I just love this printed coffee cup. It says in Norwegian:

For all the other moments go to Soulemama.

Actually I want to have some words with this photo. I just can’t believe that he is 7 months already. At the moment he is so busy learning how to crawl forwards, he has started to nearly sit up as you can see on this picture. He sings, talks loudly (no volume control), smiles at everyone and when he does he smiles with his whole head! He loves to be swung around and want something to happen all the time. He still loves apple but sweet potato is closing in as a good second. Bread is fun but not much is actually eaten so I wish we had a dog and not a cat. Right now we are all holidaying at my mums so plenty of attention and fresh Norwegian air for the baby.
