Our Italian demijohns are collected exclusively for us in the ancient wine regions of Italy and have such a rich history!

Damigiana, as the Italian call these bulbuous vessels, have been used to hold wine and spirits for centuries. While some people still use them for that very purpose, they can also make a great conversation piece. Fill them with pennies or pebbles or use it as a vase for your fresh flowers. The options are limitless.

We can guarantee one thing: you'll absolutely LOVE the way the light filters through the antique glass. If you'd like to add an Italian demijohn to your decor, keep in mind that because these pieces range in age from 50 to 90 years, size and color will vary.

industrialize your look

Industrial home decor, while quite popular with many people, is also disliked by some who tend to be uncomfortable with the "rough" appearance. The key to achieving a great look with industrial decor is to soften the roughness.

First introduced this month more than 54 years ago, the peace sign remains an internationally recognized symbol among the young and young at heart. The "fork" in the middle of the circle depicts 'nuclear disarmament' using the letters 'N' and 'D' from the naval code of semaphore. The circle itself represents the concept of totality and completeness so that the image as a whole symbolizes complete nuclear disarmament.

Here's a look at some of our favorite pieces of peace sign decor:

Lids from tomato paste drums were re-purposed to create the funky set of three recycled peace signs on the left. If your decor has a more earthy feel to it, the handcrafted twig peace sign would make an excellent addition!

Of course, our hanging recycled glass peace signs always make for a great accent piece or a much-appreciated gift for a friend, co-worker or family member...

celebrate earth day with recycled art

While we're still in disbelief that April is coming to a close, we are looking forward to Earth Day on Sunday, April 22! As you may know by now, we strive to use recycled materials whenever possible.

Not only is it a great way to get use out of pieces that may otherwise waste away in a landfill, but recycling these materials adds to the character of the items you'll find at AWE. Take a look at some of our favorite pieces of recycled metal wall art...

This set of giant recycled silverware is the perfect conversation piece for the wall of any casual dining area--indoors or out. Measuring in around four feet tall, the pair would look equally AWEsome leaned up against a wall, as well!

Add some color to your space! This bright recycled kite serves as a great reminder to enjoy each day whether you're young or young at heart. And even if you've never lived in Texas, you can shouldn't hesitate to add this fun piece of recycled pop art to your indoor or outdoor decor.

how to decorate a bottle tree

Could your garden decor use a little sprucing? One of our favorite garden accessories is the bottle tree. And not just because they look AWEsome...the folklore behind it is pretty interesting, too!

Tracing back all the way to 9th century Congo, legend has it that natives hung hand-blown glass from trees and huts to ward off evil spirits. They believed the spirits were drawn to the sunlit colors and got trapped inside the bottles.

Decorating a bottle tree can be so much fun! The best part about it is that you can customize yours however you'd like: use a set of bottles that are all the same as pictured above on our hanging bottle tree, or gather a variety of bottles in all shapes, sizes and colors. Use the bottles of your favorite libation or seek out some that fit into your desired color scheme. Our set of 4 retro glass bottles would look great!

We've picked out some AWEsome new products to introduce to At West End during the next few months, and we've already started photographing some of it! Here's a picture of Bradley hard at work.

This is the photo he was taking. Aren't those antler ornaments cool?

One of the fun parts about doing photography is that we like to visit Jackson's best restaurants as much as we can, since we're out of the office anyway. Last week we went to Walker's Drive In over in Fondren, and this brave little birdie hopped up and stole a french fry right off of Sara's plate!

Last Friday we asked our Facebook fans: "If you could have our iron butterfly chair in another color, which would you choose?"

We received a lot of AWEsome answers, and by our unofficial count, red was the most popular choice. It just so happens that we have an iron butterfly chair in antique red!

With the official start of spring merely days away, we just cannot contain ourselves--we're going coastal! Owls are are associated with a variety of attributes such as intelligence or power. We think of them as a great way to add to your cool home decor. Well, we know we can at least count on My Owl Barn to back us up on that. How do we know? Their blog is dedicated to owl lovers everywhere. Count us in! Last week they were kind enough to devote an entire post to our 'owlsome' items...
