The famous astrophysicist, speaking in a new documentary, said spaceships could one day be capable of such high speeds that time slowed down for those on board.

According to the Times of London, Hawking has made a new documentary, "Stephen Hawking’s Universe," for the Discovery Channel, which is scheduled to be broadcast in May. In this film, which took three years to make, Hawking offers his view of what really might be out there.Hawking says in his new documentary series ,how man might truly conquer space. Also, how spacemen might come down to our little planet and dismember us as so much fast food.Hawking has already warned in his documentary that we should be very wary about making contact with beings from out there. "If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans," he said in "Stephen Hawking’s Universe."

Theoretically, such a space ship would allow the crew to repopulate the earth if they found our species had become extinct during their flight.

Stephen Hawking’s Universe, in which he makes the comments, will be screened on Discovery next Sunday. In another part of the series he says alien life is likely to exist but that humans should avoid making contact.

Hawking said a spaceship capable of travelling through time – but only forwards – would breach Albert Einstein’s theories of relativity

He although stresses however, that time travel will only be performed in a forward motion.

Having taken six years to reach its full speed of 98 per cent of the speed of light (650million miles per hour), a day on board the ship would be equivalent to a year on Earth, he said, allowing those on board to reach the edge of the galaxy in just 80 years.

But the ship required for the journey would have to be massive to allow for the required fuel.

He dismissed the idea of travelling backwards through time, saying doing so would violate a fundamental rule that cause comes before effect and that such an act could allow people to make themselves impossible, such as if a person travelled back in time and shot thir former self.

Doesn’t his words excite you?I am sure they do if you are even a little bit of a science maniac.But sadly, so many of us will not be able to benefit from such exalted science.

Google recently launched the developer version of Chrome, which now includes preliminary support for the W3C’s geolocation API.

Google’s Geolocation API allows developers to pinpoint your computer’s location by looking at the WiFi networks around you,Chrome has had geolocation support since March, but it wasn’t activated by default until now. The support hasn’t yet arrived in the beta or stable versions of Chrome.

For now, this new feature is still hidden behind a command line toggle and only available in the developer builds for Windows and OSX Leopard (it doesn’t work on Snow Leopard yet).

If you want to use geolocation for now in Firefox or Chrome , then one way is to go to Google Maps and click the small white circle in the upper-left corner of a map itself, below the navigation control and above the zoom control. A pop-up bar says, "http://maps.google.com/ wants to track your physical location," and if you click "allow," your location should then be shown with a blue circle on the map.

The Chrome team also notes that the geolocation UI is still incomplete and that Chrome will forget the permissions you set.

Drag-and-drop attachments, a feature which lets you drag files from your desktop machine right into your e-mail message to have them begin uploading, and hence save you a lot of time .

Now no more hassles of clicking on “attach a file” , finding that one file among the thousand others in your computer and uploading it .Now you can just drag and drop your attachments-a cakewalk .

It works the same as the system Google implemented in its Wave service for photos and other media types. It also has the same requirement of the user having to run Google Chrome or Firefox 3.6.

The drag-and-drop attachments is really the new, killer feature. For those users on Chrome or Firefox (with Mozilla’s Prism installed) who are running Gmail as a standalone desktop Web app, this adds a whole new layer of functionality, and one that more closely resembles a real piece of software.

Google software engineer Adam de Boor wrote in a blog post, "Suppose I want to attach some files to an email, and I already have a folder open containing those files. I used to have to click ‘Attach a file’, find the photos, click them, etc. [Now] I can just drag and drop the files to attach them.

For now, you can drag and drop attachments in Chrome and Firefox only.

Microsoft said on Friday that more than 7.5 million people have been using the beta version of Office 2010.

It also said that it has finished with the development work on the next version of the Office family, including Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010, and Project 2010.

The Office suite, in all its many flavors, will hit store shelves in June and Microsoft is planning a separate Gotham event to mark that occasion. Microsoft is also taking preorders for Office on its online store. Already Microsoft has been promising those buying Office 2007 a free upgrade to Office 2010.Sounds like a good deal !

The products were "released to manufacturing," which is the final engineering step. The products are slated to be available for businesses next month and Microsoft is holding a launch event on May 12 in New York.

RTM is the final engineering milestone of a product release and our engineering team has poured their heart and soul into reaching this milestone," vice president Takeshi Numoto said in a blog posting.

"It is also an appropriate time to re-emphasize our sincere gratitude to the more than 5,000 organizations and partners who have worked with us on rapid deployment and testing of the products."

This Wednesday Yahoo announced that it has decided to close the Yahoo Publisher Network, which was yahoo’s Google adsense counterpart.

If you’re a Yahoo Publisher Network member, chances are you might have received an email notification already stating that Yahoo is about to close down the service on April 30. According to the email, Yahoo is asking YPN members to remove the YPN codes from all of their sites and Yahoo will be paying outstanding YPN revenues by May 31, 2010.

The Yahoo Publisher Network is an advertising platform enabling small Web publishers to place ads on their sites to drive revenue, which is officially closing on April 30. The service had been in beta testing since its launch nearly five years ago.

After a review, Yahoo decided that the resources required to take the program to a more advanced stage would be better used in other parts of its business, Yahoo spokeswoman Kristen Morquecho said on Wednesday.

Yahoo Publisher Network Beta is not to be confused with a similar ad network that Yahoo runs for large publishers, which remains active, nor with Yahoo’s various other services to sell and display ads,

she said…

Now here’s the interesting part. The email being sent to YPN publishers is suggesting that as an alternative to YPN, users who want to continue earning from their sites use Chitika instead. In fact, Chitika has already put up a landing page welcoming YPN publishers. The said page directs those who are coming from the link given by the Yahoo email to various information that will make publishers’ transition from YPN to the Chitika network smoothly.

In fact, probably a month ago Chitika has announced the release of Chitika Select for non search engine traffic! May be they have planned this migration! What ever it is, it is quite obvious now that Chitika will be getting some publishers from YPN. Do you think that it was Yahoo’s plan to join Google Adsense’ biggest rival?

Publisher Network joins the increasing list of services that Yahoo has shut down for not making strong financial sense. One of the more notable examples occurred last April, when the company announced that it would be shutting down GeoCities which was officially discontinued in October.

Your very own google is about to get its connection to Asia in no time.A reason for all us Asians to be happy and excited.Google and group of other companies have invested about $300 million dollars in developing a super fast internet cable running under the Pacific Ocean from the U.S. to Japan, increasing bandwidth by about 20 percent.The Unity Consortium, which consists of Google, Bharti Airtel, Global Transit, KDDI, Pacnet, and SingTel, has nearly completed the testing of the $300 million project.

If you spend half your precious time in cursing your net speed then its a time to rejoice for you because its being said that this cable can supports speeds up to 7.68Tbps (Tera bytes per second)! WOW… sounds exciting. Google is expected to formally announce the completion of the project next week…

Google’s officials said on thursday that

The need for information is a global requirement. As the economies of Asian countries continue to grow, data traffic and the use of the Internet expands. Google is a global company and is committed to providing the best quality of user experience regardless of geography

Now another point which you should note is that although Google leaves China on 10th April yet (i know i sound selfish) we people living in other Asian countries will get an even faster internet access because More bandwidth from the fast pipe (under Google’s 20%) will help Google deliver faster internet speed.
In return for its investment—an undisclosed amount–Google is entitled to 20 percent of the overall capacity for its needs, according to partners involved with the project.Internet companies need bandwidth to provide their services, and usually have to rent that from the companies that build and maintain the cables and network connections. That’s expensive, which is why Google and several telecommunications companies asked Pacnet to help build the cable
Anyways, i am just hoping for my sloppy internet to fasten up and i hope that you are waiting for the same……..Well just in case you have a slow internet like mine

UPDATE: Feedburner has solved this issue now! Feed Count is back to normal and it is now showing counts from FriendFeeds

Just today only (26/12/2009), I saw a sudden decrease in my Feedburner count! The amount was quite surprising… My Feed count decreased from 270+ to straight 73… As obvious, it was really shocking. After a bit of investigation I find out that, I was not only the victim. Popular blogs like BlogKori, iTechArena and some other blogs are also facing the same situation.

After going through the details of my feed subscription, I was finally able to find out the reason behind this… Read below if you are also facing the same situation and want to know the cause…

FriendFeed Subscription count is not shown by FeedBurner:

FriendFeed is a popular service to share and connect with your friends using Feeds. It is also a good platform to increase your Feed Subscriber count. ITechArena has already discussed about this before. So a good portion of our Subscriber was from FriendFeed only. It was also shown at the status of Feedburner.

Now all of a sudden, Feedburner has stopped showing the count for FriendFeed subscription, resulting in sharp decrease of Feed Count. So if you are wondering why my feed count decreased suddenly, then the possible reason is…

FeedBurner, is not showing Feed Counts from FriendFeed any more. So the current count is the sum of your Google Feed Subscribers, Feedburner Email Subscriber and some other supported services.

Is it an Update or Error?

Well, even I don’t know exactly about this! Also there is no notification from the FeedBurner Blog as well. May be this is just an error which will be resolved after some time. It can also be a permanent update from FeedBurner. The reason may be that many were using this service to increase their Feed Count easily.

What ever the reason may be, we are still unaware of this. I hope FeedBurner either fixes it soon or officially announce that Counts from FriendFeed will no longer be included.

Yahoo will shut down its
four-year-old Yahoo Go service from the 12th of january
next year(2010), so that it focus on building services in the browser and
applications for high-end smartphones, like the iPhone, Blackberry and Android.Those who haven’t used the app should know it provides
users with quick access to news, weather, search, and other content from Yahoo
network.Yahoo Go was Yahoo’s all-in-one native app of Yahoo services for Windows
Mobile, BlackBerry, and Symbian phones, since January 2006. It gathers together
Yahoo’s services around a rotating carousel motif, the application’s start
page.

Killing Yahoo! Go, as per with Yahoo! Mobile Strategy:

Yahoo Go was first introduced several years ago in 2006 and it offered a way
for mobile phone users to access and interact with their Yahoo accounts and
content.

Yahoo Go users received an email yesterday morning,
notifying them that the service will be shutdown at 12 a.m. Pacific on Jan. 12.
In the email, Yahoo encourages the users to visit its new mobile homepage from
the browser to “access an even richer, more personalized Yahoo!
experience.”Yahoo Mobile still isn’t perfect, and it can also suffer from
information overload. However, active Yahoo Go users will find that their
content is intact, albeit somewhat rearranged.

Killing Yahoo Go is in line with Yahoo’s mobile strategy, says
Yahoo’s global head of mobile product marketing, Adam
Taggart.

In the past 18 months, browser quality has been increasing at an accelerated
rate. We’ve doubled down on our mobile Web strategy.It was the first high
quality PC-like interactive experience on the phone

Taggart would not say how many users the service has, but
said it has attracted millions over time, and was a “hugely
successful product”.

Multiple Search Feature Comes to Google Maps

Google has added a new feature to Google Maps, which allows you to perform multiple searches, while keeping them around for future reference. It’s hard to explain without an example .It lets you conduct multiple searches within one search for directions.

This feature lets you add visual layers to a particular map as you add more search parameters. So let’s say you are searching for a particular route to get from one destination to another. You can now search for several restaurants and bars within that route.

As you conduct multiple searches, you’ll see a blue bar at the bottom of the left side of the Maps page. You can click on it to expand the widget, which will list the searches that you have made. You can also turn searches on or off by clicking on the box to the side of each search. And each search is color coded, so you know which is which.

What’s here option is another useful option that Google maps added. If you right-click somewhere on the map, it will bring up a menu with a bunch of options. The new last option allows you to select “What’s here?” And if Google knows — which it does for a lot of places — it will pop up information about what is actually at the location you’re pointing at. If it knows the name of say, a store that is there, it will give that to you. Otherwise, it will give you the address of where you are pointing.

The good thing about the multiple search feature is that once you search in a particular location, the following searches will pertain to that location. For example, if you searched Hana first, you would then simply be able to just search for “supermarkets” to get listings for supermarkets in the area.

Quoting from the Google Lat Long blog :

Consider another scenario, where you want to meet a friend for dinner on your way to downtown San Francisco. You search for transit directions from where you are on 24th and Valencia to Downtown SF, and then search for two of your favorite restaurants, Bar Jules and Walzwerk. Clicking on the blue bar at the bottom of the left panel reveals both searches for the restaurants as well as your route downtown. You can click on the checkboxes to turn each search on and off.

Did you people like kung fu panda ?? Well at least i loved it and am waiting for the sequel …. But the sequel is to be released in 3D and this summer there are at least three major motion pictures in 3D.The format is exploding in popularity, and already there are countless 3D videos on YouTube. Well a good news for all you movie buffs YouTube now allows uploading of 3D videos

Though still very much in experimental mode, a YouTube developer has built a stereoscopic player—a fancy way of saying you can already view some YouTube videos in 3D. The project is open for testing now.

This is a new feature and many of the kinks are still being worked out (for instance, 3D videos cannot be embedded).

Some basics around shooting 3D videos (this isn’t as easy as it seems, so patience is key):

Use two cameras arranged like a pair of eyes.
Start both cameras recording simultaneously.
In your video editing program, place the footage for the left and right eyes together in the frame side by side, with the right eye on the left and the left eye on the right.
Upload your video! Edit your videos tags and add yt3d:enable=true. If video is widescreen, add yt3d:aspect=16:9 too.
