Things I forgot to Ask During the Interview:

I wanted to ask Marshall about the rappers who swiped his audio clips but I honestly just forgot. After the interview I asked Marshall  if he wouldn’t mind answering a few question about it. He was so cool that he didn’t it over an FB chat ;-)

Questions about the Swiping Rappers:

Q1: How did you find out they used your audio clips?

A: A fellow social media marketer had messaged me with the link, around Christmas time, saying, “Marshall, I’ve heard your voice in enough videos to know this is you. How did you make this happen?”

I thought he had done a fun gesture and put my voice in the track. Then I checked the source, and it was on Soulja Boys official Youtube page. The same one with his, “Soulja Boy: Tell ‘Em – Crank That” hit single with 139,059,834 views.

Q2: Did Soulja Boy ask you for permission to use you audio clip?

A: Souja Boy didn’t use permission. He and his friends were apparently looking around Youtube, found me reading the Forbes list, and then talking about what it’s like to have my friend be the daughter of a billionaire.

Q3: Did you contact them about it?

A: I did private message on Youtube, and Twitter, just to see if it would result in anything, but knew it was just a shot in the dark with how cluttered their inbox is.

Q4: Has that gotten you any traction as far as traffic, more clients, etc.?

A: It doesn’t bring me traffic since it’s unknown that it’s me as far as any normal listener would know. However, it’s been priceless in my own branding, and being interesting to prospective clients. “Tell me about this Soulja Boy song, ‘Gettin Paid’. How did that come about?” is a question I get all the time. That sparks a useful intro conversation about the power of putting yourself out there to the world.

IP 032: Marshall Wayne – From Dinar Dealer to Icon Engineer

The reality is that this is the hardest damn thing ever to do. Not because it’s hard to make money or hard to reach success or any of that shit.

It’s the hardest thing ever because it’s so damn lonely!

For many of us, we come from a world where we bust our asses day in and day out. We work for “the man”. We’re laborers. For most, not by choice. But still, even though we work in these odd jobs that many of us hate, we’re not alone. It’s not lonely.

Why? Because we work with about 10, 20, even a 100 other people. Depending on the company you work at.

We’re surrounded by other people. People that do the same thing as we do. You could say they are like minded only because they can relate to you and vice versa.

We have the chance to interact, talk, and enjoy the company of others in our workplace. I remember when I worked at Wal-Mart, the best part of my day was at lunch time. A group of us, like 10 or 15 would sit together and just have a blast for an hour.

I miss those days. Not so much the work, but the people. I really miss them.

Even outside of work we know a ton of people that are just like us, 9 – 5 type of people. So even though we don’t work at the same place, we still understand and relate to each other.

When we make the move to this Marketing thing, we’re literally alone. Hell, it’s not enough that we don’t know shit about marketing, building a site, getting leads, and making money, but then you add the fact that you know absolutely no one that does this. It’s overwhelming!

When you try to talk to your co-workers about it, they look at you like you’re crazy, or worst, like you’re trying to sell them on some MLM crap.

You’re family just thinks you’re going through a phase, and the worst part is that you’re spouse doesn’t really get it. The one that you heavily rely on the most for support.

We’re so use to having people around us that do the same thing we do that we take for granted something as simple as interaction.

It’s a tough thing this thing of ours. It took me many years to figure it out. Long after I got use to being alone in this. To find and talk to people that have to same interests or do the same as I do. Like minded people.

Even though now I know all these like minded people, I still find myself alone in this. I only see these great people once in a while in marketing events, or skype calls, or social media sites.

It’s not the same.

Right now, as I’m writing this rant or whatever you call it, to me I consider it work. And right now I’m working alone.

It’s 12:21 AM. May 7, 2013. My birthday. 21 minutes ago I turned 37. My wife and kids are sleeping. It’s just me, my laptop, and a cold beer.

This is outside of my normal thing I do here on this blog, but I just thought I’d get a little personal with ya. To let you know how it really is. What to expect when you come over to “the other side”, lol.

It’s not really that bad, but the loneliness can get a bit discouraging at times. It’s enough to make you call it quits. Believe me, I’ve been there.

I know exactly what you’re going through right now. How hard it is to get started, get the ball rolling, get things moving forward instead of backwards, or worst, not moving at all.

I think that’s enough for now. I think I’m just rambling now. But one more thing before I go and have a few more beers.

When you finally reach success, it’s a whole ‘nother ballgame of loneliness. But we’ll talk about that on a personal note.

IP 031: Andrew Warner on Getting The Most Out of Your Interviews

I was originally going to just have a podcast and then a post for this topic, but since I’m covering the same thing, thought it be best to combine them.

It’s been a long time dream and goal of mine to get into Public Speaking.

On April 20, 2013, my dream came true. I spoke for the first time ever at an Internet Marketing Event (JV Alert Live) in front of a live crowed.

Now I only got a 10 minute spot, but man let me tell ya, that felt like for ever.

I have to thank Ken McArthur for this opportunity. He’s an amazing person and really does care for people, especially people just starting out in this thing of ours.

Here’s another cool thing. JV Alert Live was the very first event I ever went to. Before then I knew nothing about events, let alone knew they existed. So it was kinda cool it being my first speaking gig at the first event I ever went to.

I had only ten minutes to speak:

Ken had 8 or 10 slots open for a quick ten minute talk. If you weren’t done in ten, you get buzzed!

Now this got me thinking all kinds of crazy.

• What the hell can I talk about in ten minutes
• How can I deliver something great in ten minutes
• and if I don’t finish in ten minutes, I’m gonna get BUZZED! WTF!

Just knowing that I’ll get buzzed was enough.

What I Did to prepare for a ten minute talk

Since I only had 10 minutes to deliver something great, and since this was my first time, I had to do some good ol’ fashion searching.

So the first thing I did was listen to a ton of TEDxTalks presentations. They’re usually about 15 – 20 minutes long and are always jammed packed with great content.

I’ve been to a lot of Marketing Events and the talks are usually about 90 – 120 minutes, sometimes longer. That’s like 2 hours plus. However, though the 2 hours plus content are great, it always amazes me how the people on TEDxTalks do the same in under 20 minutes.

Then I listened to some World Championship of Public Speaking videos. This was recommended by my good buddy Sergio Felix. Thanks a ton for this Sergio, this really helped a lot ;-)

I thought TEDxTalks were great, but man, these guys were doing talks in less than 10 minutes. In fact the 2011 and 2012 Champs won it with talks less than 10 minutes. This is exactly what I needed!

I couldn’t believe the amount of information and content that was giving in such a short amount of time. I thought to myself …If they can do it, I know I can.

Now it’s time to figure out what I was going to talk about

Now that I was done watching and listening to videos, I needed to get my talk down. Actually figure out what I was going to talk about.

I read (again) one of my favorite books by Dale Carnegie, Stand and Deliver. I love this book.

The first chapter really made a huge impact on what I was going to talk about, how I structured it, and how I was going to present it.

These are three key things that helped me with my talk:

Key Thing 1: What I was going to talk about. – I needed to know exactly what I was talking about. I needed to know the material so well that I could literally talk about it to anyone at any giving time. Like a true master of his craft.

So I decided to talk about something that I’m currently doing now, something that’s working and not only that, but something that I’ve been doing for years.

It was important to me to talk about something that’s current, working, and that I’ve been doing for a long period of time.

Key Thing 2: How I structured it. – I was originally going to right down the entire talk, word for word. But according to Dale Carnegie, you shouldn’t do that or you shouldn’t memorize the entire talk because then it’ll sound like you’re reading it.

So I didn’t.

To structure my talk I followed the rule of three. Break down your talk into 3 main sections. Then talk about each section. That’s it!

There’s a famous quote written in the book that says …

Tell ‘em what you’re gonna tell ‘em. Tell ‘em. Then tell ‘em what you told ‘em.”

This really helped structure my talk because it gave me an opening, middle, and a close.

Key Thing 3: How I was going to present it. – The most important thing to do at the beginning of a presentation, talk, webinar, or interview is to Break the Ice.

Usually people do this by making some kind of joke. I didn’t have anything funny to say, plus I was going to be to nervous to even attempt to crack a joke.

So what I decided to do is to start off by telling them the truth about this being my first speaking gig and to give a small bit of history of that particular event. This really calmed my nerves and broke the ice so to speak.

This transparency was well received, even by the more experienced speakers. They all said I did very well which was pretty cool ;-)

For the rest of the talk I pretty much followed the structure in key thing 2. I told them what I was going to tell them. I told them. Then I told them what I just told them.

How I rehearsed for my ten minute talk

Now that I figured out what I was going to talk about, structured it, and how I was going to present it, I needed to bring it to life.

So I rehearsed it in my head, in my car, while I took a shower, bathroom duties, while I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner, and anywhere I could rehearse it on my own, I did it. I did it over and over and over again.

I used my iPhone’s timer. I set it at ten minutes and let it run down. I wanted to get my talk down to less than 8 minutes.

Once I got the time down to 8 minutes, I rehearsed it in front of my son first, then my 2 daughters, then my wife, and then all of them together.

Here’s how I timed my talk:

1. First minute: Brief mention of my first speaking gig, what my talk was about, who I was and what I do.
2. Next 6 minutes: My talk, the actual presentation
3. Last minute: a quick Recap of my talk

There you have it. That’s my first speaking experience.

It took all of 7.17 for the entire talk. I was the fastest to finish, the only one who went through it without stopping to ask for how much time I got, and 1 of 3 who finished it in ten minutes or less.

I’d say it was pretty good for my first time out. Yes, there are a ton of things I need to work on, but all in all, I’m pretty happy with it.

Now that I’ve showed you some quick and easy ways to create a product, it’s now time for you to create one of your own.

Start with the Non-Premium Type and work your way up. Create something as simple as a PDF handbook or guide with just text and maybe a few images.

Write down a list of product ideas you can create and post them in the comments below.

Do this now.

First, make a list of 5 potential products you can create in the next month.

Second, Tell me in detail what niche market you’re targeting and why. Be specific.

In both scenarios, explain WHY you think your product will help the marketplace. This is important, and if you skip this step, the exercise is pointless.

IP 028: Repurposing Content

He said he had four speaker slots open and was taking requests, so naturally I submitted my request.

It’s been a long time goal of mine to speak live on stage at an Internet Marketing event. No so much to sell, but to give out some great content. You know I’m all about Nothing but Content right, lol.

Anyway, a few days later he contacted me saying I was accepted.

WOW! AWESOME!!!

This is absolutely great, really it is. My dreams to speak at a live event is finally coming true.

Only one problem…

The event takes place in one week! And it’s only a ten minute slot…

So on top of it being my first ever speaking engagement, I’ve got ten minutes to deliver bad ass content and I only got a week to prepare. HOT DAMN! Talk about pressure huh!

It’s all good though, I do well under heavy pressure.

Most people wouldn’t take a gig on such short notice, but here’s the thing.

I’ve been trying to land a speaking gig for a while now, and no luck. This is my first shot and the way I see it, it’s a HUGE door that’s opening up for me.

This will get the ball rolling. It’s the beginning of my speaking career. It’s experience I’ll be gaining.

I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Here’s the cool part about this…

My first ever live event I went to was at a JV Alert Live event. It was back in 2009 in Washington D.C.

Before then, I knew nothing about events, I didn’t even know they existed. My buddy told me about it and since we were both fairly new to this I.M. world, we decided to go.

He flew in from London here to Florida where I live, then we both flew to D.C. to attend the event. Best experience EVER!

So it’s kind of ironic that my first speaking gig would be at the same event that started it all for me. How cool is that ;-)

So what am I going to do to prepare?

Well for one, I’m gonna watch a ton of TEDTalk presentations. Their presentations usually takes about 15 – 20 minutes.

I’ve been to a ton of Marketing events and most all presenters take 1 – 2 hours for one presentation.

Since I’ve only got 10 minutes, I could learn a ton from TED Talks.

• How they present
• How they pack so much content in such a short time
• How they deliver the content
• How they begin
• How they end
• and so much more

As far as the content, I really have to think about it. Remember, it’s only ten minutes so I have to make sure that whatever I present, it must make sense, and have a huge impact on the crowd.

Where will this event take place?

I just wanted to say thanks to Ken McArthur for this opportunity. It’s truly a dream come true. This event did so many things for me at the beginning and I have no doubt that it will be great for my Speaking Career.

I send it out all the time, it’s in my newsletter, and it gives me a chance to gather a bunch of great questions I can answer right on the Podcast.
