Sharpen perception

Argument

2017-05-15T18:00:00.001+02:00

Indy says: if the purpose of argument is to learn something, then the person who loses the argument is actually the winner. The reason is that the loser has learnt something and the winner may not have learnt anything!

Playing Classical Themes Using Chords - Beethoven Adagio.

2016-02-15T17:44:00.001+02:00

John loves playing themes from classical music. He improvises using chords with the left hand. John is quite frank - he tells me there is no chance of him playing to a packed Carnegie Hall! But John is sorry that more ordinary people who love music don't learn to play the piano using chords. He is certain they would enjoy doing it - as he has enjoyed it for about 60 years. Here is John explaining what he does. (If you type JohnBartelsPiano into Google you can hear more including some of John's compositions).

Poaching Eggs Without Breaking the Yellow

2016-02-11T09:30:00.001+02:00

Hi

John thinks he is a great cook - Jamie Oliver beware!

Here is a video that John did on how he puts an egg into the poaching holder without breaking the yellow part of the egg. Frankly, I don't think Jamie Oliver's position at the top of cooking demos is under threat. I am not telling John!

Warning: You are about to see a very amateur video.

John's Musical Tribute to Quakers

2015-08-05T10:31:00.001+02:00

John composed this a few month ago. He hopes you enjoy it.
Here is what John thought:
"Quaker Dawn. Written in four short parts. Hopefully the music (although way far from perfect and very amateurish) shows that almost excruciating soft gentle compassion can have a steel and resolute backbone, both buttressed by independent thought. All this resulting in a life of quiet practical compassion guided by the Light."

Cecil the lion killed - Warning: This will upset you

2015-07-29T09:18:00.000+02:00

Cecil the famous lion has been killed in Zimbabwe.

Please Google: Cecil lion
See what is on the web
In Google, click on images for pictures of Cecil.
Click on this link as well.

Do your research responsibly.

Words cannot express how outraged I am about what happened, according to news reports.

To those who say: "Why are you so upset about the death of a lion when millions of innocent people are dying throughout the world?" my answer is: "We should of course be more outraged when innocent people are killed and I hope we are and always will be. But lets stick to the point - this blog is about Cecil the lion who was killed in Zimbabwe recently.
