Pulsars have always had this European flair in its design..

..and therefore decals / stickers does not suit it

The Pulsar 200 NS has been around for a year and half now and it was time for its first upgrade. Bajaj has responded by what looks like, making small cosmetic changes. It is actually quite uncharacteristic of Bajaj who is known to provide substantial additions in its upgrades.

So is it an indication of a maturing manufacturer? Or is it simply the lack or direct competition? You decide for yourself.

The All Black Color seems to be in Pure Black this time

So what are the changes in the 2014 Pulsar 200NS upgrade?

New Colors: 3 Dual Tone (Black with White, Blue, Red) and 1 Single Color (All Black)

"Matt" Finish Handlebars (Black Color)

Tank Pad/Tank scratch guard

Dark color engine casings/covers

Mustard Yellow Discontinued: Sadly Bajaj seems to have discontinued the "Mustard Yellow" color of the Pulsar 200NS. According to me that was the most attractive color and Bajaj should have continued with it. Nevertheless according to reports the all Black color seems to be in the Pure Black shade and not in the Brownish Black shade that was initially launched.

Pure Black replaces Brownish Black: The Pure Black shade has always been synonymous with Pulsars. In fact Black Pulsars have been infamous as the chosen vehicle involved in many police cases..!! I am sad to see the Mustard Yellow being discontinued but if the Black shade is indeed Pure Black, then it would be worth checking out.

Pulsars have always had this European flair in its design and therefore decals/stickers does not suit it. I am therefore not too excited by these dual tone paint/sticker jobs. A few so called bloggers are stating that the dual color is same as that on what is available in Indonesia. But actually the color combination/decals on the Indonesian Pulsar 200NS is different.

Small but thoughtful changes: What is similar to the Indonesian version is the darker colored engine casings, the tank pad and Matt finish handlebars. giving the handlebars the Matt finish is something which was needed. The glossy paint on the Pulsar 200NS was prone to chipping.

Any mechanical changes? Change in Price? There has been no official word about the 2014 Pulsar 200NS apart from uploading its photos on its Facebook page and official site. Therefore probably there would be any mechanical change or a change in its price. There was no big issues with the Pulsar 200NS anyway. But what would be welcome is if Bajaj has provided some improved damping on its engine block to cancel the slight resonance that seems to appear at some specific rpm range.

I have been planning to get the Pulsar 200NS someday and was thinking of getting the Mustard Yellow color, but now with it gone hope the Pure Black color saves the day for me. No dual tone Pulsar for me..!!

And by the way Mr. Bajaj, I wouldn't mind paying 10K-15K more for an ABS version. Thank You..!!

Enthusiasts seem disappointed with the Daytona 675R's price.. but one needs to look at the complete picture

Forget the knee jerk online reactions, Triumph Motorcycles has the potential to sell well in India..

Triumph Motorcycles Officially launched its product lineup in India on 28'th Nov and also announced the prices. Immediately post the launch, the online world started buzzing with reactions and comments. The general feedback so far (from internet forums and Facebook) is that most enthusiasts who were waiting seem disappointed with pricing. So has Triumph India got the pricing wrong?

Triumph India had revealed indicative pricing for the models in the 2012 Auto Expo. As seen in the table posted below, out of the 5 category of motorcycles, only in 2 (i.e. Roadsters and Super Sports) the pricing of has changed. The other prices of the other 3 categories have remained more or less same as the 2012 indicative price and in case of the Cruiser models the final price is actually lower..!!

Why do the enthusiasts seem disappointed?

Most of the disappointment seem to be due to the pricing of the Daytona 675R. The indicated price of 7 Lakhs for the Daytona 675 was a dream for those bikers who could not afford the 1000 cc (15-16 Lakh Rs.)Japanese Super Sports. The Daytona 675 is considered one of the best mid-weight (600 cc class) Super Sports and the exhaust note of the 3 cylinder engine is music to biker's ears.

I can visualize a typical "desi" middle class bike enthusiast, probably married, paying the EMI for his apartment and Hatchback car. He would have made plans to somehow somehow stretch for that 7 Lakh Daytona 675 Super Sports. But now at 11.5 lakhs those middle class Super Sports dreams have been shattered. And that's why the online despair.

The Daytona 675 could/should have been priced Rs. 2 Lakhs lower and the Roadsters (Street & Speed Triple) around 1 Lakh less. But even then the Triumph models actually offer a good alternative to the current CBU imports of Japanese companies. There is still substantial savings on the triumph models compared to the Japanese imports.

Super Sports: There is no denying that had Triumph stuck to the indicated price of the Roadsters and Super Sports it could have wiped out Kawasaki 650 and Hyosung models. Nevertheless even at 11.5 lakhs, the Daytona 675R is still significantly cheaper than a 1000 cc Super Sports like the Yamaha R1 (@ 15.6 Lakhs Ex-Showroom Delhi).

With a little bit of marketing effort Triumph Motorcycles can change the decision of bikers who might be thinking of the 15-16 Lakh R1, CBR1000RR, Ninja ZX10R or the GSX-1000R. After all the Daytona 675R will be equally fast on normal roads, sound awesome and still make a significant amount of savings.

Roadster/Street: Even the 1000 cc Roadsters/Street models like the Yamaha FZ1 has a price tag of 10.7 Lakhs the pricing of which has been matched by the Speed Triple. The Street Triple is infact a good 3 Lakh rupees cheaper.

Classics: The Bonneville is priced at the same level as the current Harley Davidson entry model the Iron 883 in India. The Bonneville has its own charm and if promoted well, I am sure there will be lot of takers for this model.

Adventure: Apart from BMW models which are obscenely priced, there are no Adventure model available in India. At 12 Lakhs the Tiger 800 XC might appear a bit costly but there are a lot of rich bikers who have been riding 1000 cc models like the R1, CBR1000RR, Hayabusa etc. who would want to ride an Adventure model. The Tiger 800 XC would be an excellent model for such bikers. All Triumph has to do is to reach out to such bikers.

Cruisers: I can tell about the Thunderbird Storm but the Rocket III has the USP of having the Biggest Engine on a Production model, and that 3 cylider 2,300 cc engine sounds like a Super Spors instead of a thumper. This one would be able to stand in a crowd of Harley Davidson's and that itself can make some Harley Riders change loyalty and switch to the Rocket III.

The recent online reactions are mostly by guys who had been riding glorified commuter motorcycles and have dreamed of proper Super Sports (beg your pardon if I am getting a bit repetitive) "Dhoom" dreams at 7-8 Lakhs of Rupees. But as pointed out there is still a lot of opportunity for Triumph to attract interested bikers.

Hopefully the plant near Bangalore gets operational soon as Triumph starts manufacturing its mid-size models along with its small capacity (250 cc model) in India. Maybe the middle class Super Sport dream might become a reality one day.

Royal Enfield officially launches its Cafe Racer model the Continental GT in India..

Today Royal Enfield officially launches the Continental GT in India. Priced at Rs. 2.05 Lakhs On Road Delhi, the pricing has hit the sweet spot.

The Continental GT would definitely get you more stares than a full faired bike..

Reason enough to buy?

I have not seen the C-GT in flesh till now. But a few of my friends who have seen it have been impressed. They were impressed by the quality of parts, the glossy paint quality and attention to details. This is one model which Royal Enfield seems to have paid a lot of attention.

Auto journalists who have ridden it say that this is the best handling Royal Enfield till date. Performance is decent till around 120 Kmph and post that vibrations start appearing. According to them the bike seems to max out at around a speedo indicated 140 kmph. The riding position is quite sporty.

The Royal Enfield C-GT looks like an authentic Cafe Racer and not a modified Royal Enfield. In fact according to me, it is the best looking model in India and on the street this model would definitely get you more stares than a full faired bike. And that itself makes the bike worth it's 2 lakh price tag.

KTM will finally get in India what it is known to do best.. "Dirt Bikes"

At around Rs. 78K, the Impulse can't be positioned as a lifestyle motorcycle..

..and the average Indian commuter can't seem to understand dual purpose motorcycles

KTM is the world leader in the world of what is generically called as "dirt bikes". Bikes like the Duke Series are Sporty Street models and the RC Series are Super Sports models from KTM but it is the off road models which is KTM's forte.

After co-developing and manufacturing the 125/200/390 Duke out of India, Bajaj will very soon start churning out the Super Sports models the RC 125/200/390 from Chakan, Pune. Now according to KTM CEO Stefan Pierer, KTM would launch Enduro/Dual Purpose models based on the same engine platforms next. Read here

2014 KTM Enduro 690R

KTM already makes hi-end Enduro models the EXC series which include models ranging from 125 cc to 500 cc and includes 2 stroke and 4 stroke models. These models are designed in keeping in participation of "Enduro" competition events. KTM also makes the 690 Enduro R model that is based on the 690 Duke. This particular model is more dual purpose than the EXC series, but nevertheless KTM calls it under "Enduro".

We can expect the 125/200/390 Enduro to share the same engine and frame from the 125/200/390 Duke and RC Series, but the suspension on the enduro models will be special. We can probably expect the Enduro 125/200/390 to look similar to the 2014 Enduro 690 R. i.e minimalistic body work, with a slim seat that extends over the fuel tank, a tall seat height, high suspension, high ground clearance and dual purpose tyres.

Hero is the first one to bring to India the first Dual Purpose motorcycle, the Honda 150 Bros based Impulse. So far the sales might have been very modest, but I know of 2 prominent auto journalists in India who could have bought anything but have decided to go for the Impulse..!!

I have yet to ride the Impulse, but am sure that it will be a fun experience. My only worry is that the seat height on the KTM Enduro 125/200/390 might turn out to be bit too much. For the record the seat height on the Enduro 690 R is 910 mm, the Impulse has a 835mm seat height and that's that nearly the max that someone like me can ride..!!

Interestingly Mr. Pierer has said that "there are two platforms. One is the smaller engine platform, 125cc upto 200cc and then it is the platform 250cc upto 390cc". So far we have seen 125,200 & 390 variants but curiously the 250 cc variant that has been mentioned is yet to surface.

Why has the Hero Impulse not sold well?

Hero has spend a lot in promoting its Impulse. But why has the dual purpose model not become as successful as Hero might have wanted? According to me, it could be that the average Indian commuter can't understand such types of motorcycles. For them more the plastic on a motorcycle, the more is its perceived value.

Maybe its better off for manufacturers to price and position such motorcycles as hi-end models. In that way only the serious enthusiast will get this models. And this according to me is the issue with Impulse, at around Rs. 78K On-Road, it can't be positioned as a lifestyle motorcycle.

I would love to check out the KTM Dual Purpose Enduro 200/390, but that probable tall seat height is scaring me. But would Indians prefer a high end Enduro/Dual Purpose model from KTM?

Finally Yamaha shows the R25 (250 cc, twin cylinder) concept..

Internationally Kawasaki has ruled the sporty 250 cc class with its Ninja 250 over 2 decades now. Taking a cue out of Kawasaki’s book, Honda made the plunge a couple of years back with a VFR inspired 250 cc, calling it the CBR250R. To keep costs low Honda gave it a single cylinder and manufactured both from Thailand and India. Meanwhile Kawasaki upped the Twin cylinder Ninja from 250 to 300 cc (except in Indonesia), and Honda too is now following suit with the CBR 250R replacement with the 300R and thankfully with non VFR like styling this time.

Missing in the picture was Suzuki and Yamaha. Most have actually forgotten that Suzuki makes motorcycles too but the absence of Yamaha from this quarter litre segment was very much felt. Yamaha has finally revealed its quarter litre model in the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. Calling it as the R25, it is a sporty concept that looks very much similar to the European R125. Although Yamaha insists that it is inspired from Yamaha’s MotoGP bike the M1.

Yamaha R25 Details:

The model is just a concept for now, but it definitely doesn’t look too far from production. The only details of the R25 made public is:

Engine: 250 cc, Parallel Twin Engine

Chassis/Frame: Tubular

Transmission: 6 Speed

My Take: Looks Despite skipping the Perimeter frame (which incidentally the lower capacity R125 and R15 gets), the R25 concept looks very promising. The package is racy and unlike the Honda CBR250R, this one deserves the Yamaha “R” tag. For the enthusiast the absence of the perimeter frame is an eyesore, especially when the tubes are exposed. But the bike looks overall looks neat.

My Take: Probable Price For the model to be competitively priced in India, the bike have to be made in India. Now even if the bike is made here, the Yamaha R25 would be difficult to be priced less than 2.5 Lakhs on road. The CBR250R ABS is already at 2 Lakhs and therefore with the twin cylinder, the R25 can be at best priced at Rs. 2.5 lakh. Ok 2.3 at best (non-ABS version).

The only issue would be the KTM RC390 which is a much sharper looking and more desirable, which will be definitely more powerful and being manufactured by Bajaj in India means that the KTM 390 will be available for around Rs. 2.3 Lakhs..!! Now I am not even even taking the Pulsar 375 into consideration here.

My Take: Probable Performance Being a Yamaha product, I expect it to handle well despite the budget frame. In terms of its competitors, the CBR250R might not be a great track handler but one can at expect the KTM 390 to be a sharp handler. In terms of peak power, I’ll be realistic here. Expecting 40 plus bhp from a 250 cc 4 stoke engine will be too much. Kawasaki Ninja 250R made around 32 bhp and that according to me would be the max that the Yamaha R25 will be able to manage legally. Which will be a significant 8-10 bhp less than the KTM RC 390 and the Pulsar 375 as well.

My Final Take: The majority of the buying public won’t be bothered with the power output or if the bike lacks a perimeter frame or if the bike has a single or multi cylinder.

For the average buyer, if it bike “looks worth the price”, they will be more than happy to get this “Dhoom bike”. And in case of the Yamaha R25, if the production model would be not too different from this concept, then Yamaha has done the styling and the desirability quotient right. So now it will ultimately boil down to the pricing.

Anyway Yamaha, better late than never. Welcome to the 250 cc club. Now please price it sensibly in India.

Harley Davidson to launch the "Made in India" Street 750 at a shocking price in India

Its nothing less than a historic moment when Harley Davidson has decided to manufacture in India. The recently displayed Street 750 and 500 will be manufactured in India and sold in India and also exported to other countries.

The Harley Davidson Street 750 is bad news especially for DSK-Hyosung..

Harley Davidson has today officially stated that the Street 750 will be priced at below Rs. 5 Lakhs..!! It means that Harley wasn't to make things tougher with brands like Kawasaki (Ninja 650 is priced at around 5 lakhs). But the real hit would be for Hyosung Aquila Pro (at Rs. 5 Lakh) and ST7.

DSK-Hyosung will now have a real hard time convincing the Indian customer as to why he should not go for a Harley Davidson instead.

The Street 500 might be launched in 2015. It is the Street 750 that would be unveiled in the 2014 Jan India Bike Week at Goa and officially launched in Feb 2014 at the New Delhi AutoExpo [Source: Hindu Businessline]

This would make things a bit tough for even Triumph Motorcycles which are slated to officially launch its models in Nov 28, 2013. Competition is a good thing and hopefully other manufacturers too will take a leaf out of Harley Davidson's strategy of manufacturing in India. At the end, its the Indian biker that stands to benefit.

I am not a cruiser and Harley Davidson fan, but looking at how things are shaping up in India in the motorcycle space, it's great to be Indian..!!

International website Visordown has has posted a computer generated image of what looks like the Full Faired Pulsar. The image looks quite similar to the Spy photos of the full faired Pulsar that were spied recently.

Visor down states that a 200 cc and a 375 cc variants will be launched sporting the 200 cc engine of the Pulsar 200NS and the 375 cc engine of the KTM 390 Duke and the recently shown KTM RC 390.

Triumph all set to officially launch its India models on Nov 28 2013..

Its taken sometime but Triumph Motorcycles is definitely here in India. On Nov 28, 2013 Triumph will officially launch it India models. The model lineup originally planned for India has undergone some change though. The official Triumph India website is up and the model line for India is interesting.

Triumph will have to target Harley Davidson's Market share in India:

Of all the international motorcycle brands in India, Harley Davidson has been the most successful so far. According to reports Harley Davidson currently sell about 2,000 units per year in India. Thanks to Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda which are more interested in selling 100-150 cc commuters and automatic scooters, Harley's only competitor so far in India has been Kawasaki and Hyosung Motorcycles.

If Triumph has to make its mark in India, then it will have to make its maximum presence in the 6.0-9.0 lakh Rupees sweet spot which is currently dominated in India by Harley Davidson with its entry level model like the Iron 883 which is available at a price of around 6.7 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

Exploiting the Weakness in Harley Davidson's Strength..!!:

Harley Davidson is only about cruisers and a Harley is usually bought more for attitude and image than riding ability. On the other hand, Triumph has a wonderful lineup of motorcycles ranging from Adventure Tourers, Super Sports, Street Sports/Fighters (Triumph calls it Roadsters), beautiful Classic/Retro British Models and yes Cruisers too..!!

As a classic business case study, it would be wise for Triumph not to take Harley head on with cruisers. Instead Triumph can try to exploit Harley's weakness in it strength i.e. Harley Davidson is only about Cruisers.

A look at Triumph's India lineup indicates that Triumph is trying to do exactly this. Triumph will display it's impressive lineup of motorcycles for all kinds of riders in India.

Adventure Motorcycle: Tiger 800 XC and Tiger Explorer

Roadsters (Street Fighters): Street Triple and Speed Triple

Super Sports: Daytona 675 and 675R

Classic/Retro Models: Bonneville, Bonneville T1000 and Thruxton

The Rocket III is very different than a typical V-twin Harley, it has a huge 2.3 litre 3 cylinder engine and sounds more like a Super Sports on the move.

So its clear that Triumph is steering clearly away from Harley Davidson by playing to its strength of providing different kinds of motorcycles to different kinds of riders.

But ultimately it will boil down to the Pricing..:

This is India and in order to succeed one got to have a best seller and in most cases the best seller is found in the form of an entry level model. Harley Davidson will now manufacture its new Street 750 in India and due to that it would be most probably be able to price it lower than even Hyosung models..!!

Another issue for Triumph is also that by the time the average motorcycle enthusiast is financially ready to make a purchase of Rs. 7.0-9.0 lakhs on a motorcycle, he will either have a receding hairline or have reading glasses. And thereore the laidback attitude of the Harley might appeal more to this guy.

..and basics like After Sales Service and Brand Engagement:

Brands like BMW Motrcycles, Ducati, Aprilia are present in India too but the after sales service is almost non existant. Kawasaki enjoys its tie up with Bajaj and gets access to its service centers. Also Harley Davidson is doing a great job at engaging with its customers in the form of Organized Group Rides and Rider Meets. Triumph India will have to look at all these aspects if it has ambitious plans in India.

Anyway, Triumph is ultimately here in India.. and if like Harley Davidson if it can too start manufacturing in India, that would be great news.

New Colors for the Pulsar 200NS..

A few years back one could be sure that Bajaj used to make substantial change/upgrade to its models 2 years (on an average) after its launch. Of late Bajaj has been actually been slow in doing so. In case of the Pulsar 200NS, after about a year and half of its launch, Bajaj has finally given the Pulsar 200NS new colors and what looks like, small changes as well.

Bajaj has posted a few photos of what looks like new colors for the Pulsar 200NS. The bike now has more decals on it now. Whether its a good thing or not and if it goes with what Pulsar stands for? Well, debatable. Will have to check it out in the flesh.

The decals are different in design from the ones (Pulsar 200NS) that are on sale in Indonesia but the color on the engine casings and the tank pad look similar to what is found on Indonesian Pulsar 200NS models. I hope that the handlebars on the new Pulsar 200NS also gets the same matt black power coating on the handlebars instead of the current glossy black paint (on the Indian models).

Indonesian Pulsar 200NS

Till now two new colors have been uploaded on the Pulsar Facebook Page. It remains to be seen if more colors will be introduced, whether these are replacements of the existing colors, additional color options or maybe limited edition colors. One have to wait for the official confirmation.

According to me it could well be the new colors for the Pulsar 200NS as a similar thing happened with the older Pulsars when they were converted into dual color schemes (in 2011). In that case we can expect a couple of more colors as well.

Personally I would love the current "Mustard Yellow" color to continue and if possible a "White" color as well.

History and photos of the Limited Editions of the Yamaha Fazer & FZ launched by Yamaha in India so far..

My personal favorite in the "LE" is the "Military Green" color. Which is your favourite?

Yamaha launched the 150 cc FZ series in India in 2008 and since then there has been a predictable trend in Yamaha launching new color combinations of the models (Fazer, FZ-S and FZ-16) at the beginning of the calender year and following it up by launching a "Limited Edition" of the same models towards the end of the calender year and near the festive season.

2013: Military Green Limited Edition Fazer & FZ-S

Even this year (in Aug 2013) Yamaha launched a "Limited Edition" color scheme called the Military Green for the Fazer and FZ-S. There is a premium of around Rs. 2,000 on the on-+road prices for the respective models. I checked out them in the showroom and I have to say that this is the best color for the Fazer/FZ series of bikes to have come out so far. Apart from the Glossy Green color of the exhaust, the rest of the bike looks quite cool in this military shade.

Great stuff for “Dhoom” bike lovers but personally I would love to see a naked Pulsar 400"NS"..!!

This name is not the official name given by Bajaj but doing the rounds due to speculations given birth after by Mr. Bajaj’s statement that "Bajaj would launch 2 Super Sport models soon".. hence the speculated “SS” tag, since Bajaj already calls the naked 200 Pulsar as Pulsar 200NS (naked sports).

Pulsar 400SS (?)

Mr. Bajaj has already mentioned that one of the full faired variants would be based on the 375 cc (373 to be specific) engine that does duty on the KTM 390 Duke (and now the RC 390 as well). If KTM can call the 375 cc model as 390 Duke and RC 390 why can’t Bajaj call its big full faired model as Pulsar 400SS..??

Nevertheless just in one day, 2 sets of the full faired Pulsar have surfaced. The model under test is heavily camouflaged which makes it difficult to make out the details. But what is obvious from the photos is the Perimeter frame and engine casing that looks similar to the Pulsar 200NS, which raises doubts that the under test model could be based on the 200 cc engine. Still it is not clear is the models caught testing sports the 200 cc engine or the 375 cc engine. But there are a few things and features that can be made out from the photos..

Tech and features on the Full Faired Pulsar

[1] Fuel injection tech should be a natural addition as people will be ready to pay premium because it’s a full faired model (and not because of the Fi tech per se)

[2] ABS: The speed sensors can be clearly seem in one set of photos

[3]Steel braided brake hoses: The steel braiding prevents in expansion of the rubber brake hoses and helps in providing much better feedback especially when ridden (& braked) hard

[4] Twin Projector headlamps: Most probably utilizing the set that would be used on the KTM RC series that would be manufactured in the same plant where the Pulsars are manufactured

[5] LED Turn Indicators: The ones that are seen on the KTM 200/390 Duke

[6] Perimeter Frame: The frame that makes the Pulsar 200NS a special bike has also been carried forward

[7] Comfortable and slightly sporty handlebars: The handlebar position seems to be in the Honda CBR250R Sports Tourer mould. Makes sense as the KTM RC 200/390 already have Super Sports riding position. But.. in that case does the Super Sports Tag really suit the full faired Pulsars?

ABS on the Pulsar 200SS?

It’s a typical Bajaj modus operandi to give maximum value so the Pulsar 200SS might very well get Full Fairing, Fuel Injection and ABS as well.. only issue is that it makes the KTM 200 Duke look bad. But who says that the KTM 200 Duke can’t get ABS in India, after all in Europe even the 125 Duke gets it.

Price of the Pulsar 200SS..?

In my previous post, I have put my reasons how the KTM RC 200 & 390 would be priced to tackle the Standard and ABS variant of the Honda CBR 250R (or 300R). I therefore am of the opinion that the Pulsar 200SS & 400SS would be priced aimed at taking the market share of the Yamaha R15. Which means we should expect a price point of around Rs. 1.25-1.35 Lakhs for the Pulsar 200SS.

Price of the Pulsar 400SS..?

Now this is something which I am not too sure.. will it be more than the KTM 200 Duke (currently at Rs. 1.50 Lakhs on road) and would it be more, less or at par with the yet to be launched KTM RC 200. It’ll be interesting to see.

What could be the on road price of the RC 200 and 390 that would be launched in India?

If KTM matches the price as I have speculated..

..one has to be ignorant about motorcycles or a Honda fanboy to go for the Honda CBR250R/300R

It's just a matter of time before KTM launches its "mini" Super Sport models the RC 200 and RC 390 in India. In most certainty the RC 125 much like the 125 Duke won’t arrive in India as it would be priced out of reach of what Indian’s would like to pay for a 125 cc model. So how much would the RC 200 and RC 390 be priced in India?

So far there has been no official indication for the price in India. But actually it is not too difficult to speculate on the India price. And I am sure that the price would remain around the same level that I would be speculating here.

KTM RC 200 and RC 390 On road Price:

Lets look at how the KTM 200 and 390 Duke are priced in India. The 200 Duke is available for on On Road price of around Rs. 1.50 lakh and the 390 Duke for a lip smacking around Rs. 2.0 Lakh on road in most cities of India. Coming straight to the price speculation, in most probability the RC 200 will be priced at around Rs. 1.75 lakh on-road and the RC 390 at Rs 2.25 lakh on-road for most of the cities in India.

Why?

For most part the RC 200/390 are based on the already in production and on sale KTM 200/390 in India. The engines would most certainly be in the same state of tunes, there are slight change in the chassis but like the other body parts it would in all probability be shared with the faired (125/)200/390 variants. The ABS and Metzeller tyres that the 390 Duke gets and the 200 Duke doesn't, would be the same story for the RC 200 and RC 390 as well.

Very tough times for the Honda CBR250R (300R)?

The Honda CBR250R Standard variant is already priced at around Rs. 1.7 Lakhs on Road and the ABS Variant at Rs. 2.1 Lakhs on Road. I am sure that KTM can and will go for the Honda CBR250R's jugular vein with its RC 200 taking care of the the baby CBR's stardard variant and the RC 390 sweeping clean the ABS variant.

Now even if Honda decides to launch the 300 in India, it will only make things tough for itself, as there will definitely be an increment in the price. And if KTM prices the RC 200 and RC 390 in the range that I have speculated, except for the fanboys, Honda will have a really tough time convincing the Indian customers to buy the CBR250R (or maybe the 300R) in place of the so desirable KTM RC 200 and RC 390.

The KTM RC series already has much more desirable styling. The 375 engine of the KTM is much more powerful than the Honda's 250/300 engine. The RC 390 has ABS and the tyres of the KTM RC 390 is of much superior variant.

If KTM prices the RC 200 and 390 as what I have speculated, one has to be ignorant about motorcycles to go for the Honda CBR250R/300R.

5 interesting things that make the KTM RC 200/390 special..

The recently unviled KTM RC 125/200/390 has managed to grab everyone's attention. Needless to say the styling on it is aggressive, in your face and pure KTM. The performance with its KTM 125/200/390 Duke derived engines will definitely be equally exciting. Posted below are 5 interesting things that make the RC 125/200/390 stand out.

[1] The rear seat on the KTM RC 125/200/390 is designed to look like a single seater:

The foam of the rear seat of the KTM RC 125/200/390 comes from a supplier in Canada and which is the only one supplying this stuff. What makes it special is that the special seat foam gives the rear seat the look of a rear seat cover/cowl..!! So the RC 125/200/390 will always look a single seater.. Super Cool..!!

[2] The LED Pilot Lamps on the KTM RC 125/200/390:

The head lamps on the RC 125/200/390 is a bit too extreme for some to digest. Personally I love it. The bike will be half interesting without those dual projector lamps. But it is the position of those LED pilot lamps which is really wicked. Just have a look at the photo and video posted below.

[3] The Front Turn Indicators:

The Front Turn Indicators on the KTM RC 125/200/390 are integrated with the Rear View Mirrors. Benefit? Forget about the "aerodynamics" being stated on the official KTM website. But the real benefit apart from looking cool is that in case of a fall there won't be chances of the front turn indicators being broken anymore..!!

[4] The Frame of the KTM RC 125/200/390 is different from that of the 125/200/390 Duke:

The frame has been modified to better fit the supersport ergonomics and dynamics. Changes include in the steering head, a shorter wheelbase, taller seat height and increased ground clearance. All these modifications have resulted in a quick and agile handling over the 125/200/390 Duke.

[5] The triple clamps on the KTM RC 125/200/390 are made of forged aluminium:

Forging makes the metal parts stronger compared to normal casting. The handlebar triple clamp on the RC 125/200/390 is made of forged aluminium. This along with the low clip ons give a supersport riding feel and stance.

Comparison between Yamaha FZ-16/S and the Honda CB Trigger

Since it's launch the Yamaha FZ-16/S has been the the most desirable 150 cc Street Sports motorcycle available in India. Probably the only thing that prevents it from being the best selling 150 cc motorcycle in India (which has been the Bajaj Pulsar 150's turf for over a decade) is its relatively low fuel efficiency figures (around 35-40 kmpl) for a 150 cc model.

The TVS Apache RTR 160/180 models are too small to have the same kind of presence that the FZ has, the Hero Xtreme is not too everyone's taste in its styling, the Hero Hunk, Suzuki GS 150R bring nothing special to the table and the Pulsar 150 is too common on the roads. Honda CB Unicorn is too commuterish.

Honda tried to break into this desirable 150 cc with it's Dazzler in 2010. But did not taste the success it was looking for. As a result the Dazzler was discontinued and a new redesigned model called the CB Trigger has been launched. Is the Honda CB Trigger good enough to take the Yamaha FZ-16/S head on?

All the comparisons nearly has the same verdict. In terms of performance and fuel efficiency there is not much that separates both these models. In terms of price the Top variant of the Honda CB Trigger is costlier than the Yamaha FZ. In terms of styling/looks/appeal there is no doubt that the Yamaha FZ trumps over the Honda by a good margin.

So is the Honda CB Trigger a good buy over the Yamaha FZ-16/S? '

Well unless you are a Honda fan, I say no..!! The Yamaha FZ-16/S still lords over the Honda. Even if Honda gives a rear disc and Combined Braking System on the CB Trigger as options.

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India replaces the CB Unicorn Dazzler model.. with the CB Trigger

This had to happen as the CB Trigger was essentially the CB Unicorn Dazzler in new clothes. Honda has officially withdrawn the CB Unicorn Dazzler by taking it off from it corporate website. Slow selling models do get discontinued, but what's important to note here is that the CB Unicorn Dazzler is the second motorcycle model (after the CBF Stunner PGM-Fi) to be discontinued from HMSI (Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India)'s lineup. Something that Honda is not known to do in India.

The CB Trigger is still not "hot" enough to challenge the Yamaha FZ-16/S

Honda could have just opted for an easier option of naming the new model as the new CB Unicorn Dazzler.. or in case it felt that the name was too long, then could have shortened it as the "CB Dazzler". By choosing to discontinue with the CB Unicorn Dazzler branding, it will affect the resale value of the Dazzler models plus also Honda will again have to go back to square one in terms of branding, which is a costly affair.

I have seen a few CB Trigger's ply on the roads of Bangalore. The CB Trigger definitely looks better than the CB Unicorn Dazzler. One can make out from the styling on the CB Trigger that Honda has tried to imitate/ape Yamaha FZ-16/S. Which is evident by the way the tank is shaped. But then somehow Honda doesn't go out the whole hog and isn't able to let go of its commuter ambitions.

The result is that the CB Trigger still appears commuterish and not "hot" enough to challenge the Yamaha FZ-16/S in terms of sheer appeal. The Yamaha FZ-S is the model that the Honda CB Trigger is gunning for.

In terms of pricing the CBS Variant of the CB Trigger is dearer to the FZ-S model.

This means that the Honda CB Trigger will appeal only to the Honda Fans. Anyway discontinuing models from it's lineup just indicates that even Honda is not immune to competitive pressures.

Photos of the production ready "Made in India" KTM RC390 emerge..!!

The full faired KTM RC390, that will be made in India by Bajaj Auto and exported to the world has been revealed just before its international appearance in the Milan Motorcycle Show.

I was almost sure that my "Dhoom" days were over.. and this gets launched

Visordown has posted photos of the soon to be launched "Made in India" KTM RC390. Of late I have developed kind of disinterest for full faired bikes. I find the kind of models available in India like the Yamaha R15, Honda CBR 150/250R and even the Kawasaki Ninja 300 more kind of poser stuff than actually being true to its track bike genre.

I actually find it amusing when someone say how sporty riding position of the R15 is. Anyone who says so should be put on a "real" super sports machine or even the KTM RC390 would do..!! The handlebars on the RC390 looks to be pure super sports stuff. The KTM RC390 looks totally impractical for commuting, which is exactly why this is one "Dhoom" machine that I am falling in love with.

As this knock out will be manufactured and sold by Bajaj in India, surely this will be a dream machine that will be within reach of desi bikers.. provided that the desi biker has a second bike/scooter/car to commute. Being an Indian biker and not getting this would be kind of "Sin".

I have a car for commute.. so.. Why KTM, Why..?? I was almost sure that my "Dhoom" days were over.. and then you happen to launch this..!!

Full faired Pulsar sighted on the road.. being tested

Autocar India has published a spy photo of a full faired Pulsar being caught testing near Kolhapur Highway. The test model is heavily camouflaged and nothing much is visible in the photos except for those distinctive alloy wheels that also are found on the Pulsar 200NS.

Upon closely inspection one can see the Perimeter frame that is also found on the Pulsar 200NS. All the ingredients to make a full faired bike were already present in the Pulsar 200NS. Namely the perimeter frame and liquid cooled engine. All Bajaj had to do is to design it with a full fairing around it.

One thing is not clear though is the engine capacity of the model caught testing. Whether it features the 200 cc engine of the Pulsar 200NS or the speculated and as already announced my Mr. Bajaj, the bigger 375 cc KTM 390 Duke based engine.

Speculating further on the specs, features, price and blah blah based on this spy photo will be just.. Blah..!!

But it’s definitely good to see the first full faired bike from an Indian brand about to be launched.

5 things to like and 5 to dislike about the Pulsar 200NS..

The Pulsar 200NS has surprised me big time with its on road performance. This model is without any doubt the best product to have come out of Bajaj Auto's stables. Everytime I ride a Pulsar 200NS, it always impresses me with it on road behavior. It is one tight and sensible package. Among the many things that I like about this bike, I have listed out the top 5 that stand out for me. Also there is a list of 5 things that I wished could be better on this bike.

Top 5 things that: I LOVE

1. Rock steady handling, thanks to the Perimeter Frame: The perimeter frame on the Pulsar 200NS is the USP (Unique Selling Proposition) among naked street bikes in India. No other naked street bike comes equipped with this modern frame. The effect of putting such a frame is evident by the manner the Pulsar 200NS rides on smooth roads, bad roads, potholes, corners and on highways. The bike feels composed in all conditions and feels like one solid piece of metal put together.

2. Impressive Brakes: The front and rear disc brakes on the Pulsar 200NS are excellent in their bite and feedback. Coupled with the strong perimeter frame, the brakes does an impressive job of dropping anchors and shaving off speed whenever needed. The brakes actually gives you the confidence and encourages you to ride a bit faster than you would normally ride.

3. Rev-Happy, 4 Valve Engine:The DTS-i, triple spark, 4 valve engine of the Pulsar 200NS is a gem. The engine shares its genes with the KTM 200 Duke's over square engine. Even the bore and stroke on both the engines are identical. This co-development between Bajaj and KTM has worked wonders and what we get is a rev happy, 4 valve engine that loves to spin effortlessly to its redline. The engine can hover around the redline of tacho and would still feel nice. Something that was/is missing from the older gen Pulsar engines.

4. Riding Position: I just love the upright yet "ready for action" riding position on the Pulsar 200NS. There is no hint of any forward lean, instead the riding position is kind of like Supermoto style of riding. Upright seating with comfortable reach handlebars and rear set foot pegs for that "in with the bike" feeling. Maybe there is an influence of KTM genes here too.

5. Perfectly Padded Seat:The seat on the Pulsar 200NS is perfectly padded. The foam is neither too soft to be uncomfortable over long distances nor too hard like the 200 Duke. Its perfect for short and for extended rides as well.

Top 5 things that: COULD BE BETTER

1. Tyres: The Pulsar comes fitted with Eurogrip branded tyres. These tyres are mediocre in terms of providing grip specially while cornering and during less than perfect road conditions. Thankfully there are a few after market options from good tyre brands like Pirelli and even from MRF. Recently I rode a 200NS fitted with the rear tyre of the R15 V2.0 (MRF, 130/70 x 17). I have to say the amount of confidence one gets from the extra level of grip makes it worth spending that extra and going for a tyre swap.

2. Seat Height: On paper the seat height of the Pulsar 200NS might be stated as 800 mm that is normal by Indian standards, but the wide front seat and the side covers that intrude with the insides of the legs, makes it difficult for someone like me (5 ft 4 inch) to get both feet on the ground. I guess for guys less the 5 ft 7 inches, the Pulsar 200NS’s seat height would be a bit intimidating.

But thankfully there seems to be a simple solution to the problem. Installing the rear tyre of the Yamaha R15 V2.0 reduces the seat height to an acceptable level for someone like me. The tyre of the R15 V2.0 has specs of 130/70 x 17 that it identical to the Pulsar 200NS OEM tyre. Maybe because the profiles of the tyres are different or maybe the rear tyre if the R15 V2.0 is a radial which makes the difference, but still surprisingly the seat height drops by a few mms.

3. Design of the Turn Indicator Switch : The current design of the turn indicator switch is not ergonomic. One has to make a conscious and extra effort to reach out and operate the switch. Also the tactile feel of push to cancel the switch is less especially while wearing gloves. '

4. Paint finish on certain areas : For most part of the bike, the paint quality and finish is quite decent. But then there are certain areas where it could have been better. For instance on the handlebars, which are in glossy black paint. The glossy paint tends to chip off over time. A powder coated matt black paint would have been more durable and also given a more premium look and feel. Also I have noticed the black paint on the engine chip off quite early on some bikes.

Interestingly the Pulsar 200NS that is exported to Indonesia gets's matt finish on the handlebars. "Why this Kolaveri Di" Bajaj?

5. Vibration damping : Personally this is a non issue for me. There are some tingling vibrations that makes its presence felt at some specific rpm range. The vibes are felt around the legs in the seat and the tank area. It is not severe and definitely much lesser in degree than what is felt on the TVS Apache RTR series of bikes. The fact that the engine doesn’t feel stressed is more important to me.

Even the KTM 200/390 vibrate and even the Hero Honda Karizma's vibrate. But KTM and Honda have successfully damped/masked these vibrations by spreading them over the rev range and not letting it localize at certain revs. A little bit of effort from Bajaj's end to eliminate/damp these slight vibrations would make the Pulsar 200NS a flawless package.

Smaller, Single cylinder Triumph spied.. will it make into India?

Triumph Motorcycles have been keen to enter India for some time now. It showed off its lineup that it wants’ to bring to India in the 2012 Auto Expo and also announced the indicative prices of the models. It has been almost 2 years since then and Triumph is yet to officially launch its models in India.

Recently there has been some hectic activity from Triumph’s end. It appointed Mr. Vimal Sumbly (ex Bajaj GM) as the head for India. Mr. Ashish Joshi (Ex Royal Enfield Emloyee) who was originally oppointed as the CEO for Triumph India had resigned from his post. Its now just a matter of time before Triumph launches its models in India. The officially date is around November 2013, makes sense as global companies refreshes it’s models around that time which also coincides with the Milan Motorcycle Show where these new models are displayed.

Triumph can bring its models in CKD (completely knocked down) and CBU (completely built unit) forms to India. CKD attracts lower taxes, also these kits can arrive from Triumph's Thailand manufacturing unit, a country with whom India already has some trade agreements. But what’s most interesting is a recently spied smaller model from Triumph, spy pics of which are posted below (source: visordown)

There was already some rumor about Triumph developing a smaller model specially for developing nations like India and Thailand. This spied model can be seen to be inspired the Street Triple, which is one of the best selling model of Triumph. But unlike the famous 3 cylinder engine of the Street Triple, this one seems to have a single cylinder. Triumph Street Single..??

Triumph could fulfill the dreams of desi bikers who put twin round headlamps on his bike to mimic Tom Cruise’s Triumph..

The cubic capacity of the engine is not known but is speculated to be around 250-350 cc. Now the most important question is where will this “Street Single” be manufactured in? Thailand is the most obvious answer but there could well be a very good possibility of this baby triumph being manufactured in India..!! Much like how Honda made the CBR250R for the world in Thailand and India. Manufacturing in India means ridiculously low priced models (much lower than getting it in CKD). We have already seen how delightfully the KTM 200/390 Duke are priced in India when compared to the rest of the world.

Although Triumph has decided to start its operations from Gurgaon, where it would probably start assembling the CKD kits. It has also bought a land near Bangalore. In the near future Triumph can very well use these facility to manufacture made in India Triumph’s for the world, take advantage of the low cost of manufacturing in India and in turn we Indians get access to another top motorcycle brand at ridiculous prices..!! Bring it on Triumph, I say.

Mr. Sumbly has already said that "India will become a global bikes hub for emerging markets". Very soon we could start to see authentic made in India, bug eyed Triumphs rolling on our desi streets to fulfill the dreams of desi bikers who put twin round headlamps on his bike to mimic Tom Cruise’s Triumph from the movie Mission Impossible.

I don’t think it’s very much Mission Possible for Triumph to manufacture in India. What say guys?

Honda shows it's global CBR250R upgrade, the CBR300R..

Indian's are not used to upgrade/change of engines in Honda motorcycles. Honda has never done it in India till date for its motorcycle lineup. But this could soon change with its flagship model in India the CBR250R. Honda has today shown its global upgrade to the CBR250R, the CBR300R. Its very likely that India too will get the upgrade and probably replace the CBR250R.

CBR300R changes from CBR250R:

Apart from getting a bigger engine the new CBR300R gets new fairing panels, twin headlights which mimic the bigger CBR1000RR, and a new exhaust end which seems to be borrowed from the CBR500/400 series.

The styling changes makes the motorcycle look sportier than the CBR250R. Thankfully the VFR 1200F inspired headlamp of the CBR250R has been done away with the new CBR1000RR inspired twin lamps.

CBR300R Basic Engine Specs:

Engine: 286 cc
Max Power: 30.8 bhp (31.23 Ps) @ 8,500 rpm
Max Torque: 2.7 kgm (26.48 Nm) @ 7,250 rpm.

Even though the peak power and torque figures have been updated, it still is a good distance away from the performance king of "Made in India" bikes, the KTM 390 Duke (44 Ps and 35 Nm). It is not clear if there is any change in the chassis and suspension. The CBR250R is not exactly a very good handler (especially with bikes like R15, Pulsar 200NS, 200/390 Duke around), it will be interesting to see if Honda has done anything to improve the handling of the CBR300R.

Nevertheless the styling changes on the CBR300R will help Honda to keep the interest alive in it's flagship. Honda should seriously consider getting the CBR250R replaced with the new CBR300R in India.

Hero has come out with the power figures of its new Karizma ZMR. Peak power is up from the earlier 17 bhp to 20 bhp. The following promotional video makes it official

No issues with Hero upping the peak power of its flagship, but calling it as the "God of Bikes" is... well.. amusing. Someone at Hero should try the 390 Duke for a proper perspective of bikes in India in 2013-

This study is something like Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" for Motorcycles..!!

During the last few years motorcycles in India have started to mimic the looks and style of international motorcycles. Words like "Super Sports", "Street fighter" are sometimes loosely used to describe these motorcycles. But how exactly are motorcycles categorized globally?

The following was actually a project which took nearly 3 months for me to complete. The problem in the analysis was that there was no common terminology. Each manufacturer uses it's own terms to categorize it's models. For example Honda calls its CBR250R as "Sports" in USA and the same bike as "Super Sports" in UK and launched as a "Sports Tourer" in India..!!

Modus operandi for this study: I browsed through websites of different brands trying to understand how and why they categorized their models. Read countless articles especially on the history/origins of the different styles of motorcycles. Initially it was difficult to make sense, but eventually some kind of pattern emerged and ultimately all the pieces fell into place.

On seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, it felt like how Siddartha attained enlightenment and became Buddha..!!

Basis: "Form Follows Function"

3 years back, I had made a similar attempt at categorizing global motorcycles, but later I realized that it was not very clear. There were still a few things that was left open to interpretation and personal opinions. This time around the analysis is based on the evolution of different styles of motorcyles, hence chances of ambiguity is less. The different kinds of motorcyles that exist today is a result of its evolution over the years based on its intended usage. This study is something like Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" for Motorcycles..!!

Where did it all begin?

The different styles or "forms" of motorcyles that exist today is because of its intended usage of "function". Back in 1950-60's most motorcycles used to look like how Royal Enfield Bullet looks. The intended usage was to be ridden on normal roads of those days. Enthusiasts then started modifying these motorcycles and made something called a "scrambler" to be ridden on off-road conditions. Then enthusiasts made something called Cafe Racers to be used for racing on highways/speedways.

The "Scramblers" and "Cafe Racers" are the grand daddy's of today's Off road and Super Sports motorcycles.

Current Motorcycle Categories: What started as modifications by enthusiasts have resulted in very specialized forms of motorcycles. In broad terms there are 3 main categories.
[1] Off Road
[2] On-Off Road
[3] On Road Motorcycles.

[1] Off Road Motorcycles

These are motorcycles that are designed to be ridden on off road or practically no road conditions. Further there are two sub categories [a] Motocross and [b] Enduro. Both these subcategories are actually motorcycle competitions. Motocross are held in closed and specially designed off road circuits. Enduro events sometimes take place on some portions which involve public roads. Therefore Enduro motorcycles feature a headlamp and tail lamp, whereas Motocross motorcycles do not have headlights, tail lamps, turn indicators, no pillion seat and a very small tank (all these to reduce weight)etc. These motorcycles (especially Motocross motorcycles) are not-legal to be ridden on public roads and can't be registered.

[2] On Off Road Motorcycles

Yamaha invented a new category now known as Dual Purpose mototcycles with it's DT-01 in 1968. These motorcycles can be ridden on both off road as well as on proper roads. They are not as extreme as off road motorcycles, with less extreme ground clearance, suspension and tyres. There is a pillion seat, headlights, rear view mirrors, speedometers, turn indicators everything that is needed to make it a road legal motorcycle.

Adventure motorcycles are extremely popular abroad. These are heavy models which are comfortable to go around the world and can even tackle off roads. BMW with its GS series is the originator of adventure motorcycles and is the market leader.

[3] On Road Motorcycles These motorcyles are designed to be ridden on paved roads. This is the biggest category can be further categorized based on where they are intended to be used. Based on specifically which kind of paved surface, these can be sub divided into motorcycles designed for

[a] Highway
[b] Drag Strip
[c] Race Track
[c] Supermoto Track
[e] Street

Highway: Luxury Tourer - Honda Goldwing is the most famous model in the Luxury Tourer category. These are very heavy motorcyles almost equivalent of cars in terms of luxury.

Highway: Classic Cruiser - Harley Davidson is the synonymous name associated with Classic Cruisers. These are feet forward, wide handlebars motorcycles which are at home riding on open and free highways. There is a sub category of Classic Cruisers called "Chopper" which are nothing but Classic Cruiser's with the extra stuff "Chopped" off, therefore these are minimalistic looking Classic cruisers.

Highway: Power Cruiser - A relatively new category, there are a few model like the Yamaha V-Max, Ducati Diavel and Harley Davidson V-Rod.

Highway: Sports Tourer - Honda India has tried to promote the CBR250R in India as a sports tourer. But in the true sense, Sports tourer are motorcycles that are designed for high speed touring on highways. Their design therefore incorporates a big fairing, comfortable and slightly sporty seating and riding position and are relatively heavier than Super Sports motorcycles.

[b] Drag Strip: Hyper Sports - The Suzuki Hayabusa is the most famous model for this kind of motorcycles. These are made for achieving very high speeds. Ideal for drag races, these bikes are popular because of their reputation as speed demons.

[c] Race Track: Super Sports - Motorcycles designed and engineered to ride and handle like models for the race track are generally called as "Super Sports" motorcycles. Such motorcycles are sometimes popularly called as Super Bikes too. There is a latest trend among motorcycle makers to called their models that are positioned with the race track as the backdrop are called as Super Sports.

[d] Supermoto Track: Origin of Supermoto motorcycles is from a competition in which off road/dual purpose motorcycles are fitted with slick and wide road tyres and raced on a track consisting of 80% tarmac and 20% off road sections. These event gave birth to a new category of motorcycles called Supermoto. These motorcycles that are basically off road / dual purpose motorcycles but with normal road tyres, were found to be fun to be ridden on road / street use. Later motorcycle makers tried to introduce specially designed, heavier and bigger supermoto motorcycles like the Ducati Hypermotard.

[e] Street: These motorcycles are designed for Street riding, therefore they have comfortable riding position and mostly are naked in design. These can be subdivided into Sports, Retro and Standard.

Street: Sports - I am not calling them as "Street Fighter" since Street Fighters are basically Super Sports motorcycles but modified for street use. There are some true street fighters like the Triumph Street Triple, Ducati Street Fighter which are actually based on Super Sports models. But nowadays there are also sporty looking naked models which do not have a Super Sports underpinnings.

Street: Retro - The most famous model here is Triumph Bonneville. Recently Royal Enfield has struck gold in India with it Classic 350/500 models. Like how it started back in the olden days, there are even "Scrambler" and "Cafe Racer" models available. Royal Enfield has recently launched it Continental GT which is a Cafe Racer.

Street: Standard - I don't think I have to say anything about this but just this photo would be ok to explain it all.
