Mahindra Two Wheelers registers 279% growth in August 2010

Mahindra Two Wheelers, a part of the US $7.1 billion Mahindra Group, has further consolidated its presence in the two wheeler segment, with record sales of 15,165 units in August 2010.

Mahindra Two Wheelers today announced that its sales for the month of August 2010 stood at 15165 units, as against 4005 units in August 2009, an increase of 279%.

Total cumulative sales from April to August 2010 stood at 54261 units, as compared to 12948 units for the same period last year, an increase of 319%.

“We are very happy with the response to our Power Scooters. Consumers have laid their trust in brand Mahindra which has helped us grow more than 75% in the last four months. We have been achieving several milestones. Just a couple of months ago, we crossed a landmark figure of 1,00,000. Our efforts to come closer to consumers are also bearing fruit as we now have more than 370 dealer ships across the length and breadth of the country.” said Mr. Anoop Mathur, Sector President and Member of Group Executive Board Mahindra & Mahindra.

Hyundai domestic sales up 17.2% in August 2010

Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter continued to be on a growth trajectory with the domestic sales growing by 17.2% over the same month last year.

HMIL’s total sales for August, 2010 stood at 50,636 units as against 49,521 units in August, 2009 registering a 2.3 % cumulative growth over the same period last year. The domestic sales accounted for 28,601 units as against 24,401 units in August, 2009 while the exports declined by 12.3 % from 25,120 units in August, 2009 to 22,035 units in August, 2010.

Nissan India registers 1249 nos total sales in August 2010

Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today announced that it has registered total sales of 1249 nos for the month of August 2010 as against 22 nos in August 2009.

Out of the 1249 nos, the sales of the new Nissan Micra were 1182 units in Aug 2010 as against 928 nos sold in July 2010. Out of the remaining, Nissan Teana, the luxury sedan (CBU) clocked 21 nos in Aug 2010 as against 10 nos in Aug 2009 and Nissan X-trail; the lifestyle SUV (CBU) registered sales of 44 units as against 12 nos in Aug 2009. Nissan also sold 2 nos of its iconic sports car, Nissan 370Z in Aug 2010. So far, the company has already sold 4 units of 370Z since its launch in January this year.

In August 2010, owing to the overwhelming demand for the top-end variant (XV) - almost over 65%, the company was encouraged to re-align its initial production schedule to cater to this growing need. This has led to increase in the delivery period, which the company hopes to control and manage in the coming months. The company has also started second shift of production in August 2010 at its manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Chennai to cater to the demand between domestic and exports. The company is expected to commence its exports during this month.

The top variant of Nissan Micra boasts of category first features such as keyless entry (i-key), push-button engine start-stop system and electric foldable mirror. Another unique feature is the intelligent multi-display meter, which supplies drivers with real time fuel economy information, cruising range and outside temperature. Renault Nissan Plant receives ISO Certification for Quality and Environment Management

Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd. (RNAIPL) today announced that it has received ISO certifications for Quality - ISO 9001 and Environment Management system - ISO 14001. The plant has also received Homologation – whole vehicle type approval for European market in a short span of time from the Start of Production on 23rd May, 2010. RNAIPL receives these 3 certificates, at a significant time when it is ramping up production and gearing up to commence Export operations of its Global compact hatch - Nissan Micra.

Commenting on the receipt of ISO Certification, Mr. Akira Sakurai, M.D. and CEO RNAIPL, said, “Quality is always our primary focus and we wanted to achieve best quality from the very beginning of our operations. The certification has come in at a right time as we march ahead with our India operations and this is also a testimony to our quality excellence system and socio-environmental methodology that we have adopted at our Plant. Hyundai Motor India announces price hike up to 1.2%

Hyundai Motor India, the country’s largest exporter and the second largest car manufacturer would be increasing the prices of its products by up to 1.2% across all models, from the 1st of September 2010. This increase is attributed to the increase in input costs.

Announcing the hike in prices, Mr. Arvind Saxena, Director, (Mktg. & Sales) Hyundai Motor India Ltd said, “There has been an increase in the input costs for car manufacturers. We have tried to absorb as much of the cost as we can, to cause as less inconvenience as possible to our valued customers.”

Mahindra & Mahindra signs MoU with Shriram Automall for commercial vehicle exchange programme

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), a part of the US $7.1 billion Mahindra Group, announced a strategic alliance with Shriram Automall (I) Ltd – Newlook Division, a pioneer and leader in the pre-owned commercial vehicles industry, today. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by both the parties, to facilitate an exchange programme which will enable M&M customers to exchange their old commercial vehicles with new commercial vehicles, from the company’s stable.

Under the aegis of this agreement, Shriram Automall – Newlook Division will work closely with M&M to evaluate and procure the old vehicles of M&M customers, under exchange. Shriram Automall – Newlook Division will service all the exchange inquiries within twenty-four hours, through its local representatives. Further, the old vehicles procured by Shriram Automall - Newlook Division would be refurbished and sold as per Shriram Automall - Newlook Division’s discretion, through its own network. Initially, this exchange program will be operative in the four southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala and will be subsequently extended to all the key markets.

Maruti launches K-Series K10 engine with Alto priced Rs 3.03 lakh

Maruti Suzuki today launched another version of Brand Alto, equipped with a K-series, 998 cc engine. This version, called 'Alto-K10', comes with improved suspension, new cable-type transmission, superior brake system and more knee-room for rear seat passengers.

The existing Alto clocks average sales of over 20,000 units every month. Maruti Suzuki expects the Alto-K10 to bring in additional customers. Fuel efficiency: 20.2 km per litre - the highest among petrol cars in A2 segment and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 13.3 seconds.

Hyundai domestic sales grew by 19.3 per cent

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, registered an overall 55.7% growth for the month of December, 2008. The domestic sales grew by 19.3% and exports saw a healthy jump of 96.8% over the current month last year.

HMIL’s total sales for December 2008 stood at 38,402 units. The domestic market accounted for 15,602 units, compared to 13,078 units for the same month last year while the exports totaled 22,800 units in December ‘08, against 11,586 units of December ‘07.

Commenting on HMIL’s 2008 performance Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice President - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “Since the last quarter of 2008 the market situation has become extremely challenging. We at HMIL have fared better as we have a strong line up of products in the compact segment which has kept our sales steady. A combination of factors like innovative schemes, established products and a large network is what has helped Hyundai in these difficult times.”

HMIL registered a 49.6% overall growth for the year ending December, 2008 as compared to calendar year 2007. The cumulative sales for 2008 stood at 489,328 units with the domestic markets accounting for 245,397 units which is a growth of 22.4 % over calendar year 2007’s 200,421 units. In the overseas HMIL grew by a healthy 92.5%. The 2008 exports stood at 243,931 units against 126,749 units for 2007. HMIL accounts for around 78% of the total exports for passenger cars from India.

The segment-wise cumulative sales in the month of December, 2008 are as follows: A2 Segment (Santro, i10, Getz & i20) 37,320 units; A3 Segment (Accent & Verna) 1078 units; units, A5 Segment (Sonata Embera) 2 units; and SUV Segment (Tucson) 2 units.

Maruti Suzuki displays Fuel Efficiency of its 12 brands from the New Year

In yet another first mover initiative, India's leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced "Fuel Economy Consumer Information" of its full range of 12 brands at the company's dealerships from today onwards.

"The 'voluntary disclosure of fuel economy' is a proactive measure undertaken by the company in customer interest. The fuel economy figures obtained in tests by premier automobile research institutions emphasize Maruti Suzuki's overall leadership in making highly fuel efficient cars. It would enable customers to make an informed choice when purchasing a car in the market¿ said Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), at its Annual Convention held in New Delhi in September 2008, had announced a Voluntary Labeling Program for all member companies to make a voluntary disclosure of fuel efficiency by end of March 2009. Maruti Suzuki is implementing the program on the first day of the New Year.

Maruti Suzuki has got its complete range of 12 brands tested at the three government approved test agencies: ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) Pune; VRDE (Vehicles Research and Development Establishment) Ahmednagar and ICAT (International Centre of Automotive Technology) Manesar. The Fuel Consumption Consumer Information labels displayed alongside the car models in the showrooms would prominently show the test result of fuel efficiency obtained under standard test conditions at the above mentioned test agencies.

Maruti Suzuki started the public announcement of fuel efficiency in November 2008, when it announced an extraordinary high fuel efficiency of 19.59 kilometer per litre (petrol), for the A-star. The fuel efficiency for A-star is the highest amongst Maruti Suzuki's own range of petrol cars and could well be the highest in A2 segment petrol cars in the industry. The fuel efficiency of Swift Diesel and Swift Dzire Diesel at 21 kms to a litre of diesel, could also be best amongst the diesel cars in the industry.

Keeping a focus on consumer awareness while implementing the voluntary disclosure of fuel economy information across network of over 600 sales outlets in the country, the company has taken a number of initiatives. The company has made an educational Audio Visual film for customers. The film communicates those factors that help in increasing fuel efficiency. The film also explains the test procedures adopted to arrive at the fuel efficiency of a car.

At the same time, the company has conducted a comprehensive training programme across country for its 14,000 strong dealer sales force. Through this training, the sales force has been equipped with necessary information that a customer may seek on issues related with fuel efficiency.

About Standard Test Conditions:

The approved agencies conduct tests on all the cars under "standard test conditions". Amongst many parameters, the "standard test conditions" include: 2 persons in the car, AC switched-off; Standard (non-adulterated) fuel; gear changes in a predetermined pattern and at predetermined acceleration levels; standard air pressure in the tyres, wind speed etc. As the "standard test conditions" during tests at the certification agency are identical for all vehicles, irrespective of manufacturer, the customer will able to make correct comparisons of fuel efficiency, across car models.

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold 56,293 vehicles in December 2008. This includes 4,264 units of exports.

The company had sold a total of 62,515 vehicles in December 2007.

During the month, Maruti Suzuki's sales volume in the domestic A3 segment went up by 98 per cent.

Hyundai launches stylish i20

After a big success of the i10, the second largest car manufacturer Hyundai Motor India today launched its latest model – the i20, a premium compact car for its discerning Indian costumers. The premium i20 hatch is a significant addition to the new generation of Hyundai vehicles identified by the `i` prefix.

Commenting on the launch, HMIL Managing Director, H S Lheem said, “The Hyundai i20 that we launch today was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. Hyundai relocates company owned showroom

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, today relocated its existing Hyundai Motor Plaza to a more up market and easily accessible Lower Parel area in the Raghuvanshi Mills Compound in Mumbai.

The new facility is spread across a built up area of 10,157 sq feet area and boasts of a capacity to showcase the entire range of Hyundai cars.

Commenting on the occasion, H S Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL, said, “Maharasthra is an important market for Hyundai. With the opening of our new company owned showroom which boasts of a significantly better ambience at a more accessible location is confirmation of our belief that we take the Mumbai market very seriously and over the years we have been constantly striving to improve our facilities. Hyundai Motor India has three company owned showroom located in Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai called the Hyundai Motor Plaza which are run and managed by the employees of the company. The Mumbai HMP was earlier located on Peddar Road. This new showroom will provide the customers with much improved service in terms of space and ambience.

Hyundai Motor India has a large sales network in the country, which will grow to around 255 dealers by the end of 2008.

Hyundai Motor India receives FIEO ‘Niryat Shree’ Award for 2005-06

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), India’s largest auto exporter and the second largest car manufacturer, was today honoured with the ‘Niryat Shree’ Silver Trophy for the year 2005-06 at a function organized by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). The award was conferred for Hyundai’s outstanding performance in export in the Engineering and Metallurgical products under the Non-SSI category.

Hon’ble President of India, Smt Pratibha Devi Singh Patil gave away the award at a glittering function to Hyundai Motor India, President, Mr Ashok Jha.

Last year, Hyundai was the proud recipient of the EEPC ‘Top Exporter of the year’ award for the year 2005- 06. HMIL, which is the largest passenger car exporter from India accounts for roughly 67% of the car exports from India. HMIL in 1999 started exporting with a batch of 20 cars being exported to neighbouring Nepal. Today it exports to 95 countries across the globe and by next year the exports should reach over 100 countries.

HMIL reached the first milestone of exporting 100,000 cars in four years and ten months in October 2004. In October 2005, it exported its 200,000th car followed by its 300,000th car and 400,000th car in October 2006 and August 2007 respectively. In March 2008, Hyundai crossed the half million mark for exports becoming the first Indian manufacturer to reach this figure in the fastest time.

Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Jha, President, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “We are honoured and delighted to receive this award. We understand the critical role of exports in bridging the country’s trade gaps. The honour accentuates our endeavour to be one of the major contributors to India’s rapidly growing economy, playing our part in India’s growth as a manufacturer as well as an exporter.”

Currently, Hyundai Motor India is exporting five of its most popular models, namely, the Santro, i10, i20, Getz and the Accent. HMIL this year will export around 50 per cent of its production to overseas markets namely Europe, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and South East Asia.

Tata Motors had confirmed earlier that the company would pass on the benefit of the reduction in CENVAT to customers, for both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.

Effective December 8, the cut in prices are as follows:

Passenger Vehicles:
Passenger Cars (Indica and Indigo family): Between Rs. 12,000/- to Rs. 23,000/- depending on the model.

Utility Vehicles (Safari and Sumo family):

Between Rs. 16000/- to Rs. 36000/-, depending on the model.
The new prices along with the Schemes as applicable are available at all Tata Motors outlets, across the country.

Commercial Vehicles:
Light Commercial Vehicles: Between Rs. 17,000/- to Rs. 23,000/-.
Medium &Heavy Commercial Vehicles: Between Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 60,000/-.
