2010 Eagle Creek West Score-O Results

A huge thank you to all the people that braved the 17-21 degree temps and many inches of snow to come out and compete today. We had a great turnout and look forward to seeing everyone again in February.

Results for Nov. 7, 2009 meet at Story

The weather for the meet at Story was unseasonably fantastic and almost 100 people came out to enjoy it. Despite Story's remote location we had a great turnout and everyone seemed to have an absolute blast. Something about a warm sunny day in November that makes even a struggle of a day on an O course very enjoyable!

The preliminary results are posted here. We've only used the summary notebook so far, and this needs to be confirmed against the finishing cards, so if something looks out of whack wait a couple of days. We'll be sure to let everyone know once we've finalized the results, we just wanted to get these out as soon as possible!

A huge thanks to Doug Petersen for designing some great courses in some really challenging property. Thanks also to Frank Baukert for helping to both get controls out and pick some up.

Be sure to mark your calendars and spread the word for the meet at Skiles Test Park on December 12th!

North American Orienteering Festival: June 26-July 21, 2010

In 2010 you’ll want to orienteer in the most extensive series of orienteering events to be held in North America for many years. Over a period of three weeks you can participate in over 15 races, in five major events in some of the best orienteering terrain and scenic country you’ll experience anywhere in the world. Located in western Canada and USA, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, you can participate in all the races, or if your time is limited, one or more of the major events including the first IOF sanctioned North American Regional Orienteering Championships.

Thanks to all the volunteers that came out to setup this course and work the long hours at the Hoosier Outdoor Experience. The DNR reports that 13,300 people attended all the events this year, great exposure for the club!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Meet Fee Update

For 2009, the meet fees have been changed as follows:

Member map fee $5, extra maps $2
Non-member map fee $15, extra maps $2

We are very excited to be working on new maps this year, we thank you for your continued support as we expand Orienteering in the state of Indiana!

Membership Changes

For 2009 we have made some changes to membership and meet fees in hopes of encouraging greater membership participation. As of January, all memberships will change to an annual basis based on the calendar year. If you renewed your membership or joined after September 30, 2008, you are good through the calendar year 2009. If you have not renewed to this point, your renewal will apply to calendar year 2009 as well. Going forward, all memberships will be valid for the calendar year when paid. The only exception will be new members joining after September 30 of a given year, their membership will continue through the following calendar year.

Membership Rates

Annual Family $30, renewal $20
Annual Individual $20, renewal $10

Hoosier Outdoor Expo

The Indiana DNR is hosting the Hoosier Outdoor Expo on September 25-27, 2009. This event will be the first in Indiana, but has been very popular in other states . It will be held at Fort Harrison State Park, with orienteering events at Camp Belzer.

ICO is very excited to be a part of bringing education and awareness of outdoor activities to a large group of people. Best of all, entrance to the Expo is free!

Please consider helping direct a meet this year. There are jobs for everyone, no matter what your skill level. Board members are happy to teach you all you need to know and can even walk you step by step through the process. If you aren’t comfortable with designing and setting courses, your help would also be appreciated with clearing the course after meets, assisting with registration at the beginning, or recording times throughout the meet. Please take a look at the schedule and let Jerry know what meet works best for you!

Start location on the west side of Eagle Creek, same as last year's score o and paddle o. From Raceway Road, turn east on 65th St. When the road t's, turn right and you'll run right into the start area.
