24 Untapped Traffic Sources

When it comes to making an income on the internet, one of the more popular questions (obviously apart from how to make more money) is how to generate more traffic to a blog or web site.

On the internet more traffic equals more money, the more traffic you can drive to your blog or web site then the more money you are going to earn for yourself.

Kim Roach, affiliate marketer and blogger at Buzz Blogger, knows this rule and has decided to produce a free e-book called 24 Untapped Traffic Sources. As you can guess from the title it features 24 great ways to drive traffic to your blog or web site that many people don’t know about.

Like a lot of free e-books on the internet this one is not full of clutter, it is only 22 pages long and gets right down to the grass roots of the matter straight away. You could probably get through it while having a coffee break.

The great thing about Kim’s book is how a lot of the untapped sources are not the average run of the mill ideas you will have thought of countless times. The book also contains a lot of useful resources like a list of popular sites where you can submit your tutorials for extra exposure, traffic and backlinks.

October 2009 Blog Income Report

There has been a lot of changes around here lately. Dean Saliba has sold his network of blogs to me, Steven Richardson. That includes this blog, Dean Saliba Dot Com, The Final Cut and Free London Gigs.

As part of this deal I have promised not to pass on any messages to Dean so any that are sent to me will be deleted.

So lets get down to business.

Page Impressions & Visitor Count

I was very happy to see that the traffic had increased last month despite the fact that there was no increased posting on the blog.

The unique visitor count for October stands at 263, which is up 107 on the month of September.

Google reported that the number of page views for October was 684, which is an increase of 232 from September.

This means that each unique visitor looked at 1.85 pages.

Google’s search engine accounted for 27.30% of my traffic. 38.38% of my traffic was direct.

Social Spark Pay

Social Spark is owned and operated by the company Izea – the same people who are also behind PayPerPost, the giants of the blog review network. Just like PayPerPost Social Spark has been launched amongst much fanfare and criticism.

They offer affiliate marketing opportunities, pay per click offers, blog review posts and also straight link swaps.

I’ve not yet used the affiliate marketing, link swap or the blog review posts but I have used the pay per click offers and today I received my first payment from them. It was not for a lot but it at least proves that they pay out.

Sadly the pay per click offers have dried up for my blog but hopefully they will resume very soon.

September 2009 Blog Income Report

I haven’t been updating as often as I had promised, this is due to some personal problems that I have been suffering from. I’m not going to post about them on this blog, they are quite openly talked about on my personal blog over at Dean Saliba Dot Com if you’re interested.

I started this as a little side project in November 2007 to determine if it was at all possible to earn proper money on the internet as many other people have claimed to have done before me.

The amount of traffic took a bit of a dive possibly due to the fact that I have no updated as often as I should. That is what I expected, after all if you don’t produce new content then people won’t come back.

The unique visitor count for August stands at 263, which is down 68 on the month of August.

Google reported that the number of page views for August was 452, which is a decrease of 55 from August.

This means that each unique visitor looked at 1.72 pages.

Google’s search engine accounted for 34.60% of my traffic.

I am not happy with Bidvertiser, I will give them one more month to redeem themselves before removing them from all my blogs. I am not happy with the fact that they pick and choose which clicks they honour, none of the others (Clicksor, Adbrite, Adsense, etc) are doing this.

Some of your might have noticed that I have not made a post since the start of the month. I became annoyed and frustrated with my poor internet connection so decided to change to a better provider. Only problem was there was a three week wait before the new contract started.

I was not going to publish an income report for the month of August because of this but I thought it would not be right to miss out a month, after all I still received traffic and I did make some money despite not posting.

I started this as a little side project in November 2007 to determine if it was at all possible to earn proper money on the internet as many other people have claimed to have done before me.

Not surprisingly the stats for the month of August have dropped quite a bit. That is quite understandable as I have not made a single post in the past 31 days.

The unique visitor count for August stands at 331, which is down 121 on the month of July.

Google reported that the number of page views for August was 507, which is a big drop off 301 from July.

This means that each unique visitor looked at 1.53 pages.

Google’s search engine accounted for 34.74% of my traffic.

How fast is this year going along? I swear it does not feel a month since I wrote my last Blog Income Report. Next month I’ll be 31 for crying out loud! And In About four months it will be the end of the year!

The summer is not really a good time for small blog income makers as people jet off on holiday and most of us see a dip in traffic and revenue.

I started this as a little side project in November 2007 to determine if it was at all possible to earn proper money on the internet as many other people have claimed to have done before me.

Last month I decided to give Google Analytics a go as I have heard a lot of impressive reviews about how accurate they can be. To be honest I was very shocked at how low my traffic was being reported with regards to, say, StatTraq plugin.

StatTraq was reporting my traffic to be over 30,000 a month but Google Analytics is saying it is under 1,000. I’ll have to contact the creator of StatTraq to see how it gauges traffic.

Anyway the unique visitor count for July stands at 452.

Google reported that the number of page views for July was 808.

This means that each unique visitor looked at 1.79 pages.

Google’s search engine accounted for 25.88% of my traffic

* Social Spark is a new one this month. I’m very happy with the outcome so far.

* Although with Adtoll I made nothing in clicks I have received advertising requests from companies so should see the money from them in the coming months.

* Bidvertiser has been disappointing to say the least for me. I’m geting tired of them being selective over which clicks they will accept and which ones they won’t.

* I’m going to give Kontera to the end of the year to sort itself out otherwise I shall bin them. $0.02 a month is simply not worth it and like Bidvertiser they are slective on which clicks they accept.

I Need Discipline is not just all about making money, we are very much into helping you save money also. So when I stumbled across a fantastic advert for Zenni Optical on TV!!! I was very excited to create a post passing on the good news.

For those of you who don’t know, Zenni Optical is a company that specialises in eyeglasses, not only do they specialise in eyeglasses but they specialise in $ 8 Rx eyeglasses. That’s right, $8 for a pair of glasses!

How many times have I had to fork out around $150 for a pair?

Now just because they are cheap does not mean they look horrible. I have included a pic of a pair to show you how nice they look. High Five to Zenni Optical for providing a great and cheap service says I!

We’re Not Just About Making Money

Making Money From Blogging For Free

If you are serious about making money on the internet by blogging then you would have, at some point, visited many of the blogs produced by the top guys like Shoemoney, John Chow, Pro Blogger and the ilk.

They all spout the same type of thing, you have to spend money in order to make money. Spend money on a custom layout, spend money on advertising and promoting your blog, spend money on getting people to write for your blog, spend money on prizes for kick-ass competitions.

When I first started blogging my main aim was simple: To make as much money from blogging by SPENDING AS LITTLE as I possibly can.

That is why I Need Discipline exists, in order to show other people that you can make money by blogging (and other ways) without having to go out and mortgage your house to the hilt.

Today I’m going to show you how to make money from blogging without spending a single penny.

1. Get a free blog.

Go to Blogger and get yourself a free blog. These blogs are pretty simple and basic but they are free and because they are owned by Google they are listed in their search engine super fast.

2. Sign up to Adsense

Adsense is the daddy of all advertising networks as far as I (and thousands of others) are concerned. Once you have the account place the ad units on your blog. You could also use others such as Adbrite, AdToll or even Bidvertiser.

3. Get Traffic to your blog

In the beginning gaining traffic can be hard. Tell your friends. Put your URL in your MSN, YAHOO, AOL scree name, put the link on your Facebook, MySpace, Bebo & Twitter profiles. You can find more ideas on a previous post I did about building traffic.

If you install a tracking script then you can check out where most of your traffic is coming from and build on that.

4. Sign Up To Blog Review Networks

If you are new to making money from blogging then you really do not have the time to have morals and standards. The point of the matter is that you can make a good amount of money from writing blog reviews on your blog.

Lots of people find this kind of thing bad as the writer is, more often than not, writing in a biased fashion because they are being paid. I don’t buy into this and happy write reviews on almost any subject.

I wrote a post that has 19 of them listed for you to get stuck into. Some of them have lots of offers, some of them have hardly any, so it makes sense to sign up to as many as possibly to increase your chances.

I’m not going to promise you that you will make lots of money doing this the free way, but it is a good place to start if you want to make money online but don’t want to risk putting in large amount of or money.
