So, update — working on the next batch of script for Rick. I had fallen behind due to deadlines, which I should be able to manage, being an approximation of an adult, and due to my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah, which was it’s own enormous undertaking. She stuck the landing, by the way, thanks for asking

Then I caught a cold. Vicious evil bug that seems to be roaring its way through Portland right now. I don’t know anyone here in town who hasn’t had it themselves, or hasn’t had a family member felled by it.

All this to say, yes, I am behind. Rick will be getting script from me this coming week, which means — being Rick — we’ll likely be resuming on the 29th, at which point we should be squared away for the epilogue and then onto the beginning of Book Two…

…which means those of you who are making appearances, whatever color your shirt, keep an eye open for a missive from Doc. We’ll need some reference!

Slight delay in the process while we face down various vicious deadlines in our day jobs. We will return Monday!

ONE:
We’re back on the rooftop from the end of Chapter 13, looking past SABRE as she sits between LIGHT and STONE. Angle down to where DRUM and DRAKE are now clapping the irons around PAYNE’S wrists.

1. CAPTION/West: “…just prior to Mister Payne’s arrest at the hands
of Marshall Drake and Deputy Drum.”

2. CAPTION/Giselle: “I know about that, West.”

TWO:
On SABRE, hand on her belly, wincing as she continues to bleed.

LIGHT and STONE are on either side of her, watching the activity below, still greatly amused.

3. CAPTION/West: “Then you can enlighten me when it’s your turn,
Giselle, but for now, shut your mouth with some
food and open your ears. You’re the one who
asked.
4. CAPTION/West: “So she’d taken the steel, and you can add to that
smoke from the fire that took Pegasus, and any
number of other things…

THREE:
STONE and LIGHT each turning to look at SABRE, a mix of surprise and alarm, as SABRE passes out. It’s more a comic beat than a traumatic one.

5. CAPTION/West: “…it all came to be accounted, as one might
imagine….

GISELLE is as before, leaning forward, fixing him with a brooks-no-nonsense look.

1. WEST: So where would you like I should begin, then?

2. GISELLE: Her Ladyship, for a start.

3. STEPH/off: Fresh from the oven…

TWO:
GISELLE straightens as STEPH lays a BOARD on the table with a STEAMING loaf of bread fresh from the oven, a pot of butter, and a slab of cheese. In her other hand, she’s setting a MUG in front of GISELLE.

WEST is gazing up at her with the honest love of a man who is always hungry and is about to eat well.

4. STEPH: …with honey-butter and a slab of that Fueille stink that lot call cheese.
5. STEPH: And a mug of the cold-chaser for your friend.

6. WEST: Marry me.

THREE:
STEPH turns away, grinning. WEST is grinning again.

7. STEPH: You cannae afford to keep me, Westfield Thane.

FOUR:
GISELLE draws WEST’S attention back.

8. GISELLE: Eyes off her stern, eh?
9. GISELLE: You were about to say.

FIVE:
WEST tears himself a chunk of the bread, settling in. He’s going to tell a story.

10. WEST: Aye, Lady Sabre and her whereabouts, for a start.
11. WEST: She took Payne’s steel to her gut, you remember…
