Our Anniversary 44 years

Rob’s birthday 36 years

Wow! Where did the time go?

Today is Rob’s birthday. He has been though some hard personal times but has gotten through them. I am so proud of him. He spent many years in active duty in the Navy and continues to serve now in the reserves. He has been to the Middle East a number of times once with his reserve unit. He is a quiet man and a hard worker. He is finishing up his Master’s with only one more class to go after this semester.

I am so proud of him and his accomplishments.

Our anniversary is also today. Rob was born on our 8^th anniversary. We have had ups and downs like most but praise to God we are still together. Most of the time I think we balance each other. I praise God for His faithfulness and provision.

The most important thing is not to dwell on the bad or sad times but to learn from them. If I was to write a list I know the good times would far outweigh the bad times. It’s all a matter of perspective. I want to see the glass ½ full not ½ empty.

I praise God for:

44 happy years together
3 great children
4 wonderful grandchildren
Always having enough food
Always having a warm house
A comfortable bed
Great extended family
Cars that get us there
Memories of grandparents, parents and other family members who have passed away
Living in a free country
Memories of our first years together – struggling to find 35 cents to buy a bottle of soda
Susan Parker sharing the gospel with me
My salvation
Answered prayer
More than enough

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

Saturday, November 28, 2015

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6

“Prayer and supplication (request) with thanksgiving”, in this verse thanksgiving means gratitude; actually grateful language (to God, as an act of worship). Wow! When I thank God I am actually worshipping Him. I am showing gratitude for all He has done.

Today is the last day of November. In a few short weeks we will be celebrating the birth of our Savior and Lord. The week following a new year will be upon us. Where does the time go? Even though November is ending our praise and thanks to God should never, ever end.

Each and every day we should look for opportunities to thank God. Can you breathe? Did you wake up this morning? Can you look out your window and see something? You get the picture. Thank God for all his wonderful blessings.

Dear Lord,

Help me each day to wake up thanking you. May my mind be focus on you daily. Let me meditate on your holy word and hid it in my heart that I might not sin against YOU. Let me daily remember the benefits that You provide. Thank you for all you have done above anything I could ask or think.

In Jesus precious name, Amen.

1 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm 103:1-5

In everything give thanks,

Donna

I would love to encourage you to take a few minutes each day to write something that you are grateful/thankful for. It will give you a "boost" as you begin your daily routine.

I need to be thankful for everything, not just the things that make my life easy but the hard things too. Not just the “happy” times but the “sad” times as well.

Thankful Entries

2015-11-12T05:00:00.000-05:00

The days are speeding by, it seems like yesterday was the first day of summer. Where does the time go?

I keep a thankful journal and try to write often. One of my goals this month is to write something daily, whether a list or a verse. I’d like to share my entries:

Sunday November 1, 2015

Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart ©. Psalm 32:11

This verse makes me happy and thankful. Be glad means to “brighten up”. Rejoice means to “spin around” Shout for joy means “to creak.. to shout..aloud for joy” .

What a great way to start the day. Oh, Lord help me to meditate on this verse and keep my heart © “upright” in You.

Thursday, November 5, 2015

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalm 26:7

O Lord, help me to proclaim your greatness and praise your wonderful Name.

Joy dare – 3 gifts acorn –small

What a funny thing to be thankful for – small things, but there are many small things that hold large significance.

1. Ants – we learn so much from an ant by just watching – hard workers – diligent – can carry 10-50 times body weight Proverbs 6:6

2. Seeds – I have been “sprouting seeds” and it is amazing after 4-5 days that little seeds “sprout” to become part of my salad – miracle of God

3. A grain of sand- everything God made

Just trying to think of small things can be mind boggling, so many in the plant and animal kingdoms that are good. God’s perfect plan He made it all. Thank you Lord!

Friday, November 6, 2015

This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Meanings of rejoice (spin around) and glad (brighten up) are the same as Psalm 32:11, Praise God!

Put on a happy face (and really mean it) and be a blessing to someone. Help me Lord to do this each and every day!

Have a thankful day,
Donna

Pray For Mothers Everywhere

2015-05-09T10:55:00.000-04:00

Pray without ceasing. I Thessalonians 5:17

Tomorrow is Mother's Day. Many times we think of our own "circle" of mothers. We don't look outside and see the many mothers who are struggling. I found this on Internet Cafe Devotionals. Take a few minutes to read and pray for others in difficult and trying circumstances.

PRAY FOR:

There are mothers who have children lost and buried in earthquake rubble in Nepal…

There are mothers who fear for their children as they struggle to raise them in urban America…

There are mothers whose children have committed their lives to public service in tense social times…

There are mothers whose children are incarcerated…

There are mothers who are incarcerated…

There are mothers who patiently wait for the return of their children from foreign lands as they protect our freedoms…

There are mothers who see their children return from war very different people who often can not find a way to cope with their new reality…

There are mothers who watch their adult children make choices that break their hearts…

There are mothers who are victims of abuse, who fear daily for their children…

There are mothers whose tragic choices have separated them from their children…

There are mothers who step in to become something every child deserves; foster mothers…

There are mothers who did not bear the child that has stolen their hearts, adoptive mothers…

There are mothers who sadly live on the streets…

There are mothers who have given their children up in hopes of a better life, longing to know they are safe…

For Mothers…in all circumstances. WE PRAY FOR YOU.

Be in Prayer,
Donna

New Year

2015-01-01T05:00:00.000-05:00

Where has the year gone?

2014-12-31T05:00:00.000-05:00

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Where has the year gone? In just one day we will enter a new year, 2015. It seems like yesterday that I was in high school and thinking about “how old” I would be in 2000. It is now 15 years later and I’m still marveling over the New Century.

What was this year like for you? Did you do a lot of traveling? Where family members “added” as in a marriage or a new birth? Did you do something you always wanted to do? Did you complete anything on your “bucket list”? Did you make goals at the start of 2014? How did you do?

Each year I make “goals” for the coming year, activities that will enhance my spiritual and physical life. I write them down and review a few times a year. I am a “list” person, I write it down and cross off as I complete things. It helps to “see” the accomplishments. Whatever works for you do it; we are each unique and what works for me will probably not work for you. Find what makes you comfortable and do it.

Making goals for the coming year should not be hard. Start out with small things. If you already walk 1 day a week make it two. If you read a chapter a day in the Bible try to read it through in a year, there are so many “reading plans” that one of them will probably work in your schedule. There is also a Bible reading plan to read it through in two years.

Think outside the box. Look for opportunities in your community, school, work, and church that you can do or help with.

Here is a list that can get you started:

à Attend a Bible study

à Keep a thankful/grateful journal

à Read the Bible

à Memorize scripture to help with problems/issues

à Volunteer

à Encourage/help others

à Exercise regularly

à Pray and ask the Lord for guidance

As you look forward to next year, take a few minutes to reflect on 2014. Like most families, our family had sad and happy times this year. We suffered the sudden lost of my beloved brother-in-law, Thomas, but it drew us closer together. Cousins renewed friendships with cousins and old friends mourned with us. Everyone banded together and dropped whatever they were doing to be a help and an encouragement. We have so many happy memories of things we did with him, of this I am so thankful.

I will close with some entries, written throughout the year, from my thankful journal:

à Protection from storm

à Cup of tea

à Food

à God’s glorious creation

à Morning sounds of birds and squirrels – I can hear

à Mark doing well after surgery

à Breakfast with friends

à God’s wonderful creation

à Kayaks

à Family

à Job

à Coffee

à Bible – daily comfort from God’s word

à Stove – I don’t have to cook over a camp fire

à Refrigeration – keeps my food cold

à Winter coats

à Ireland trip with the family – blessing and within budget

à Neighbors – we are so blessed with great neighbors

à Knitting

à Annual “tea” with granddaughters

à Beautiful sunrise – I can see

à God’s mercy

à Skype with grandsons

à Children

à God’s faithfulness

à God’s greatness

à God’s comfort and peace in tragedy

I could go on and on of my thankfulness to God for all He has done and will do.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Ephesians 1:3

Start the New Year with a “goal list” and maybe a thankful journal and you will be pleasantly surprised when you review next year.

Have a blessed day,
Donna

Happy Thanksgiving

2014-11-27T05:00:00.000-05:00

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 118:29

This is a special day for me. It is Thanksgiving, it is my wedding anniversary (43 yr) and it is my son’s birthday. Seven times since my wedding Thanksgiving has fallen on November 27.

When my son was young we always celebrated his birthday on the actual day and our anniversary on the following week. My son lived out of state for a while so we didn’t always get to celebrate together. This year he is back in the area and we will be having our thanksgiving meal together.

I am so thankful for all the blessings God has bestowed on us.

Here is my very short list:

My wonderful husband, Mark – Happy anniversary

My children

My grandchildren

Praise & Worship

2014-11-26T05:00:00.000-05:00

And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground. Nehemiah 8:6

When was the last time you really praised and worshipped God? In the busyness of the season may we never forget to praise and worship the LORD!

Thank you Lord, for your greatness and wonderfulness, help me to never take your word for granted. There are people right now suffering for believing in You. Help me Lord to have a heart of praise and worship each and every day.

Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen. Psalm 41:13

Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. 19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen. Psalm 72:18 -19

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Ephesians 1:3

Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. Psalm 63:4

Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. Lamentations 3:41

Have a blessed day,
Donna

Tidbits from Psalm 119

2014-11-25T05:00:00.000-05:00

Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm in the Bible. There are many nuggets of wisdom contained in its many verses, as always the key is to apply them to our life. Here are a few of my thoughts.

2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

Keep God’s word and seek Him wholeheartly.

16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

The only way not to forget God’s word is by reading, meditating, and applying.

62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

Wake up at night? Thank God for all He has done.

66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.

Do you want good judgment and knowledge? Go to God.

89 LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

God’s word is God’s word, it is true, it is forever.

101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.

I need to make a choice to refrain (H3607 to restrict by act (hold back or in)..) from doing wrong.

114 Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.

God is the best hiding place. I am completely protected. Hide in Him and His word.

126 It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law.

This sounds like today, taking God and His word out of everything.

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Let the word of God enter your heart. He will give understanding.

Thanking & Praising

2014-11-19T05:00:00.000-05:00

1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:1, 8 (KJV)

Thanking and praising God is an important part of the Christian life. It is one “job” all Christians can and should do. As I draw closer to God and “dig” into His word, I cannot help but thank Him for all His benefits, especially for saving me! I need to praise Him each day, privately as well as publicly. I need to thank Him daily for all the great blessings He so generously gives.

Have a blessed day,

Be Uplifted, by God and His greatness

Notes on Psalm 84

1 To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

Amiable (H3039) loved

Tabernacle (H4908) residence … dwelling

2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

Do I long to be with God? Do I cry out for Him?

3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

I can find comfort in the shadows of the Great IAM

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

Blessed (H835) happiness

Want to be blessed? Dwell with God and praise Him for His greatness.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

Be strengthen by God and keep your heart in His ways.

6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools. 7 They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

“Though they pass through this barren and desert place, they would not fear evil, knowing that thou wouldst supply all their wants; and even in the sandy desert cause them to find pools of water, in consequence of which they shall advance with renewed strength, and shall meet with the God of Israel in Zion.” – Adam Clarke

8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

God hears when we call on Him in prayer.

9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

King David is saying, “Look on me, O Lord I am anointed by you.”

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

One day with God is better than a thousand with the world. Just “keeping” the door of God is better than living in wickedness.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

God is our light and protection. He will give grace (H2580 kindness, favor …) and glory (H3519 … splendor…glory, honor) and will not withhold anything from me when I walk uprightly (H8549 entire … integrity, truth…)

12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

I will be blessed (happy) when I trust (H982 … be confident or sure) in God.

Psalm 84 (KJV)

Action

2014-11-13T05:00:00.000-05:00

1 A psalm of thanksgiving. Shout with joy to the LORD, all the earth! 2 Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. 3 Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. Psalm 100 (NLT)

A Psalm of action, my part is to shout, worship, come, acknowledge, enter His gates, go into His courts, and give thanks.

Why should I do this? The answer is in verse five. God is good, His unfailing love continues forever and His faithfulness continues to each generation. Praise God for His love and faithfulness to you (me)!!

Praise & Thanks

And each morning and evening they stood before the LORD to sing songs of thanks and praise to him. I Chronicles 23:30 (NLT)

What better way to start and end the day but by thanking and praising God for everything.
