Where I live, power outages are common and unpredictable. I take printouts of reading material which I begin to read whenever the power goes off. Or I take a nap.

Nature has a way of quieting the mind-chatter. Like you, when I feel like there is just too much information to handle anymore I like to spend time in my garden. Just a few minutes here or a few minutes there. But since I have a dog, he requires that I commune with nature a bit more vigorously. A romp on the beach gets us away from the phones and the computer for a longer stretch. Both our brains feel better afterward.

Jane, you are once again right on target. The question that I find most helpful is: What one thing can I do today to advance this project or goal?

BTW, I followed your networked blog on FB.

Jane -
Yes! In addition, I use the Paper Tiger (www.FindInFiveSeconds.com) action date to remind me to take action on those not-so-frequently-done activities. I file the procedure away and note it in my Paper Tiger and set the reminder. Super simple, but saves slews of time later down the road.

Even though thinking through and writing down procedures (and or policies) takes time, there are many benefits. As you note, it can save you slews of time down the road when you are trying to remember how to do something. In addition, if you own a business, it will actually increase the value of your business! One of the things that business appraisers take into consideration when they are determining the value of your business is if you have your processes and procedures written down.
To your success!

Yes, it certainly pays off even though it takes extra time at first. Thanks for your comment!

I can relate with this. I usually record steps or procedures for any task that is not done frequently enough. What you assume you know today one will forget tomorrow. Thats why God has given us pen and paper.

I like that you give examples of how you actually use Paper Tiger Online to help you run your business. While their website talks about really big companies (like CocaCola and IBM) I can see how it would be useful to small business owners as well.

I've been a bit resistant to move away from PC based file storage to "cloud" based online storage but after my 2nd computer failure recently, and lots of travel in my future, tools like this should make the transition much easier.

Thanks for the great information, Jane!

Jane...what a great saying. I love the analogy. Sometimes we just flail about trying to get out of the water - the sea of information. It only exhausts us. You've identified three other (and great) choices.
