Backdoor still has lots of back to school product trickling through the door, that was shipped late (just like everything else!). Let’s start with school style shoes from Vans, Converse, Nike, Globe and several more. Vans, in particular, are uniform approved shoes, including Old Skool Leather, Old Skool, Era, ERA LEATHER BLACK MONO, Classic Slip-On.

Vans shoes offer great support with a comfortable fit all day long. The ultimate combination of function and style, they are ideal for walking due to a sturdy rubber sole and flexible canvas construction. Generally speaking, Vans and Converse are comfortable shoes that are great for everyday wear. Vans are affordable and some quite durable.

The Vans Authentic boasts effortless cool factor, a universally liked design, and wearability with nearly any kit. It's an honest shoe, it's expendable, and each one is as good as the last. It's not frivolous, it's dependable.

Backdoor also has other back to school necessities, including backpacks from Jansport, Santa Cruz and Nike.

JanSport has become one of the most popular brands of quality backpacks, due to over 50 years of consistently manufacturing durable, extra-reliable bags that stand the test of time.

Trust is built over time, so for more than 50 years JanSport has designed packs that last, to go everywhere you go, see what you see, and carry what you need. They stand by the quality and durability of every pack they make, and since they’ve been doing that since 1967, that is a guarantee you can stand by.

So, get the kids into the front door of Backdoor for all their school gear, and they’ll thank you for it!

With this in mind please take a moment to find out more about skate shops and Vans by visiting the website at https://www.backdoor.co.nz .

(Source)

SKATEBOARDING

Just because it’s turned cold and the winter months beckon, doesn’t mean keen surfers give up and stay home keeping warm! Backdoor have the answer for those winter blues, with more winter wetsuits arriving from Rip Curl and Billabong.

The Flashbomb Heat Seeker is Rip Curl’s most technically advanced cold water wetsuit. Combining the new super stretch E6 Flash Lining and their unique Flex Energy neoprene that generates heat when stretched, plus many more superior technical features, the Flashbomb Heat Seeker is the warmest Flashbomb ever.

The pinnacle of cold water wetsuits, the Furnace wetsuit from Billabong provides an unparalleled level of heat. The warmest wetsuit they make, their top-shelf men’s wetsuit is now made with eco-conscious materials without sacrificing heat or flexibility. The full suit is lined with incredibly lightweight and heat-conductive Graphene-infused yarns, now made from 100% recycled fibres.

Backdoor also has new surfboard models arriving, including the Channel Islands Two Happy and Sharp Eye Inferno 72 models. The Two Happy takes all the high-performance speed and flow of the original Happy but makes it more accessible and user-friendly for a broader range of surfers and conditions. With added entry rocker and increased double concave, the Two Happy is looser, rolls rail to rail more easily, and carves better in the pocket. The Channel Islands team describes the board as exceptionally fast, responsive, and under the feet. The fuller rails and wider, thicker tail block provide ease of paddle, ride, and acceleration.

Backdoor have also stocked up on Huffer puffer vests and jackets, just in time for the winter chill, and lots more wintr apparel from most brands.

Finally, get on line now for Backdoor’s All About Eve 2For $100 Hoodies. All About Eve hoods are a perfect mix of comfort and fashion; a simple throw-on hood that is great to wear out and about or perfect to chill on the couch, and for more information on urban wear NZ please go to https://www.backdoor.co.nz .

(Source)

James Kingston Wins Amazon's 'Zon of the Lines' Skateboard Invitational in Christchurch

SKATEBOARDING - CHRISTCHURCH

Sunday 4 Nov, Christchurch, New Zealand: James Kingston took away $1250 and top honours at the very first Zon of the Lines Skateboard Invitational at a sun-baked rooftop set up at Papanui’s Northlands Shopping Centre in Christchurch.

After bad weather forced the event to be postponed by a day, skateboarders and event staff were welcomed with a sun-drenched day. The purpose built ZOTL set up consisting of a manual/grind box, wedge to picnic table, flat bar and wheelchair ramp turned the vacant lot into a skateboard paradise.

20 of the best skateboarders from around Christchurch, Dunedin and the South Island’s West Coast formed the core crew. The result: a fun event that celebrated the simpler parts of skateboarding. A great session with friends, up and comers and competition stalwarts.

Element’s Scott Lai, local legend Stuntdubs AP (of ‘Quaked’ fame) and industry heavyweight, Amazon’s Justin Watene, manned the judging table, with Justin also keeping the tempo on the mic.

Finalist Cade Wilson-Russ and Olly Wilson’s manly approach saw them stomp classic trick after classic trick, with Cade nailing a frontside five-0 grind on the wheelchair railing in the closing moments of the event. Wildcard Josh Bamford seemingly came out of nowhere blazing through lines of solid and speedy tricks falling just short of a place on the podium.

Hootie Andrewes stacked up impressive combos including backside Smith grind frontside 180 outs and feeble grinds to backside lipslide. His effortless style earned him third placed. Jack Woodrow’s jaunty manoeuvres were watched with awe, and the occasional wayward line saw him attacking a nearby shopping trolley bay with frontside 50-50s. This and other technical lines that included the likes of a frontside nosegrind 180 out on the picnic table secured him second place.

Competition favourite James Kingston lived up to expectations with a powerful onslaught. He skated the top of picnic table from the flat, launched kickflips and backside flips off and over the wheelchair bump, setting it up later as a gap to flat bar nailing blunt transfers crooked grinds, a backside Smith grind and a backside tailslide within minutes. He was the standout of the day setting the bar for the rest of the lineup. His efforts were rewarded with yet another contest win. He took home a healthy $1250 and secured himself a spot in the Auckland Zon of the Lines on 1 December.

Other standouts were Kurt Green’s attire on the day and Niwa Warner’s gap to frontside feeble grind on the wheelchair railing.

The next stop for the ZOTL invitational series is Wellington's Waterfront on 17 Nov. Another 20 skaters, this time from the Capital and around the lower North Island, will transform Oldins Plaza, one of the cities most iconic skate spots, aptly nicknamed 'Brewery'. More prizes and cash will be on offer.

James Kingston - Winner
25-year-old Christchurch native James Kingston has been a mainstay on the competition scene in New Zealand for a number of years now, claiming title after title with his relentless approach. James had a blazing run through last year’s circuit winning not only the Cheapskates Nationals, but also Amazon’s The Biggest Game of Skate and Billabong’s City Squared event in Auckland’s Aotea Square earlier this year. He’s a force to be reckoned with and a favourite for the Zon of the Lines Skateboard Invitational series.

For more info visit:
Zon of the Lines Skateboard Invitational series
http://manualmagazine.com/2012/10/12/zon-of-the-lines-skateboard-invitational/

Confirmed Rider Lists
http://manualmagazine.com/2012/10/19/zon-of-the-lines-rider-lists/

Wildcard Callout
http://manualmagazine.com/2012/10/21/zon-of-the-lines-wildcard-callout/

Follow the event on Instagram #zotl

Keep up to date with the event by following Amazon Surf Skate Denim on Facebook
http://www.facebook.com/pages/amazon-surfskatedenim/10150147325600585?fref=ts

Zon of the Lines Skateboard Invitational Series, proudly supported by Amazon, Mountain Dew, Vans and Plan B.

The next stops in the Zon of the Lines series:
Wellington – 1-5PM, 17 November, Odlins Plaza, Jervois Road, Wellington Waterfront (‘Brewery’ spot)

Auckland – 1-5PM, 1 December, Shed 15, 90 Wellesley Street, Auckland

Zon of the Lines Christchurch Results
1.
Responding to community requests and following the tremendous success of the Neale Park Skatepark, Council’s now moving to build a skatepark in Stoke.

Council staff are taking to the streets later this month, to gauge the community views on the proposed site on Main Road Stoke.

Planning Adviser Britta Hietz says the project is just starting and Council has two major stages to work through with the community, starting with an agreed site selection and then on to designing the park.

She says after looking for a suitable location in Stoke, the lawn area on Greenmeadow Reserve, in between the tennis court and Main Road Stoke (intersection with Songer Street) ended up heading the options. “It’s considered the most suitable site because of its high visibility, distance from residential neighbours and accessibility.”

Now Council has a potential site in mind, its seeking feedback from people likely to have an interest in the development, including local businesses, residents and community groups. Council staff will be on hand at Strawbridge Square in Stoke between noon and 1.30pm Saturday 26 February and at McCashins Market between 3 and 4.30pm that afternoon.

“We want to discuss this with the local people so we can finalise the site and then move to the design stage” Britta says. “A working group made up of users and Youth Council representatives will work on this. We hope the design stage will start soon and finish sometime in May, with the park being built in the 2011-2012 financial year (June 2011 -1 July 2012).”

(Source)

East End Skate Bowl Construction to Start

SKATEBOARDING - NEW PLYMOUTH

The latest facility for Taranaki skateboarders starts construction at East End Reserve on Wednesday (3 November).

The 260m2 skate bowl will be about a quarter the size of the adjacent skatepark and will have varying degrees of difficulty to suit skateboarders’ experience.

“This addition will give young people the chance to increase their skills, and it will provide more space at a facility that is very popular – especially with summer just around the corner,” says Manager Parks Mark Bruhn.

The skate bowl was approved following a submission by East End Skatepark Club to the Draft Budget 2010/11 earlier this year.

Club President Mark Samuels says the skate bowl meets the changing nature of the sport.

“The previous generation of skaters were happy with street skating, which the skatepark provides, but the younger generation want street skating and to ride bowls as well,” says Mr Samuels.

“The skatepark is way too popular for its own good. The skate bowl will give more room to rollerskaters, rollerbladers and skateboarders.”

The skate bowl will take about five weeks to construct.

Mr Bruhn says work may continue into the early evening, depending on the progress of concreting during the day. “I don’t expect that to be the norm though.”

The skate bowl will sit above the ground as, given the site’s past as a swamp, digging into the soil is impractical. Nearby vegetation screens the skate bowl from most of the houses surrounding the reserve.

(Source)
