“LONDON, WE’RE COMING! History is about to be made,” the actress wrote, as she announced the premiere.

The cinema, which has 791 seats, is described as one of the largest auditoriums in the British capital. The film will later open in Nigerian cinemas on December 11, 2026.

Reacting to the development, Akindele said she was humbled by the feat and thanked God, her cast, her crew and her fans for their support. “I’m humbled and so grateful to God for this feat,” she said.

She also encouraged young and aspiring filmmakers not to give up on their dreams, saying she hoped her work would open more doors for other Nigerians to tell their own stories on the global stage.

Fellow entertainers, including Mo Bimpe and Enioluwa, were among those who congratulated her in the comments section.

Kwankwaso spoke on Sunday during an interactive session with journalists at his residence in Kano. He said the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on whose platform Atiku is running, should not create confusion over the North-South rotation of power.

“What is happening in the ADC will not help us,” he said, adding that some people want to bring a northern candidate “knowing fully well that it is still the turn of the South.”

The former Kano State governor admitted that zoning is not written into the constitution, but argued that common sense dictates that when one region has held power for two terms, the other should be allowed to take over. He said fielding another northern candidate would not aid peaceful coexistence and would only breed disharmony.

Kwankwaso also recalled that he contested for the presidency three times before stepping aside for Obi. “I sacrificed my ambition for Peter Obi because he is credible and from the South,” he said. According to him, the presidency would return to the North after an Obi administration.

His remarks come amid growing concern that the opposition could split its votes in the 2027 election if Atiku and Obi both stay in the race, as happened in 2023.

In a statement dated Friday and signed by its Secretary, Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, the diocese said Bishop Obodo was named Director of the party’s Faith-Based Campaign Group without his knowledge or consent. The names of some other Catholic priests were also said to have been included without approval.

The diocese said the listing gave a false impression of the bishop’s political leanings and damaged his standing. It added that Bishop Obodo had condemned it as a “malicious act of misrepresentation and defamation.”

“No individual or group should exploit the name, office or identity of the Church or its ministers” for partisan interests, the statement said. It stressed that the Catholic Church is politically neutral and does not endorse parties or take part in campaigns.

The diocese warned that any further unauthorised use of the bishop’s name, title, image or office for political purposes would attract legal action.

Bishop Obodo is also the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Enugu State. In a separate statement on Thursday, the Enugu CAN secretary, Innocent Offor, said the association did not authorise or endorse the inclusion of its leaders in the campaign council.

Mr Offor said linking church leaders to a political party could divide the church and weaken the impartiality expected of religious leaders. He urged the public to disregard any suggestion of endorsement and called for the list to be corrected.

The APC had yet to respond to the objections at the time of filing this report.

In a statement issued on Friday through his campaign spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the development as a serious breach of public trust and questioned the commission’s ability to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

He said, “INEC must not quietly ‘clean up’ the register and bury the evidence. The allegation that more than 20 million AI-generated images may be involved demands an independent forensic audit.”

The former vice-president called for an independent examination of voter records, image files, access logs and audit trails to establish how the irregularities occurred.

He also criticised INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, for failing to disclose the identities of the officials implicated in the incident.

The controversy followed the discovery of suspicious photographs and duplicate entries in the preliminary voter register uploaded on October 26, 2026.

INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Lawrence Bayode, said the commission’s Automated Biometric Identification System helped identify questionable records and trace some irregularities to registration officers.

However, INEC maintained that the document was preliminary and that corrections were ongoing ahead of the final register’s certification scheduled for December 15, 2026.

Atiku warned that the ADC would approach the courts if INEC failed to disclose the requested information, insisting that accountability was necessary to protect confidence in the 2027 elections.

Obasanjo made the remarks on Friday at the Ajibosin Platform, a public forum held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where discussions centred on leveraging artificial intelligence to address grassroots challenges and drive national development.

“When I started my farm, 47 years ago, naira to the dollar was one naira to $1.85. Forty-seven years ago. What has Nigeria done in 47 years that we now have 1,500 naira to the dollar? What have we done?” he queried.

He further questioned the knowledge and decision-making capacity of Nigeria’s political leaders, asking, “What do our leaders know? And what do they not know? And from what they know, what can they do for us?”

“World Bank and IMF were not designed for us. They were not built by us. They were built before we became independent. And that’s the people who would determine what we do,” he said.

He cautioned against blindly implementing economic recommendations from foreign-trained experts without considering Nigeria’s unique circumstances.

According to SaharaReporters, the arrest followed a petition by the Lagos State branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), which accused the pastor of abusing the girl from age 14 and threatening to kill her if she reported the alleged abuse.

In a petition dated October 26, 2026, addressed to the Shimawa Police Division, CDHR alleged that the abuse began after the teenager’s mother, Bukola Rachel Omogbolahan, married Idowu and moved with her children into his residence in the Ologbo Ark area of Shimawa.

The organisation claimed that the alleged abuse continued after the girl turned 16, leaving her and her elder brother fearful for their safety.

CDHR said the police invited the suspect, his wife and another Celestial Church pastor after receiving the petition. The suspect and the victim’s mother were subsequently detained after their statements were obtained.

The teenager was also taken to Shimawa General Hospital on October 28 for medical examinations, with the results handed over to investigators.

According to CDHR, the case files were transferred to the Ogun State Police Command headquarters in Eleweran on October 30 before the matter was moved to the D3 Gender Unit in Oke-Ilewo.

The organisation further alleged that Idowu admitted to sexual contact with the teenager during questioning, claiming he told investigators that he had “only fingered her once and only had sex with her once.”

CDHR said the pastor remained in detention as investigations continued and that it would be informed of his arraignment after the investigation was concluded.

“Under this intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive N50,000 monthly, providing direct assistance to help meet essential needs and ease the burden of living costs,” he said.

The government linked the programme to ongoing food inflation and said it forms part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the ministry, beneficiaries will receive a text message from the payment providers asking for their consent before money is sent directly to their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

The minister also cautioned that the programme does not require applications, fees, or registration through agents.

He advised people not to share their PINs or BVNs with anyone, warning against possible fraud.

The ministry said it intends to run the intervention with transparency and accountability.

Speaking during an interview on Naija Info FM, Lagos, on Friday, Asekun said President Bola Tinubu’s decision to switch the Villa to solar energy was aimed at reducing its dependence on the national grid and easing the pressure on public electricity supply.

She explained that Nigeria’s increasing population had made it more difficult for the national grid to meet the country’s electricity needs, noting that the infrastructure now serves a population far larger than it was originally expected to cater for.

“You see, Mr. President said, I will give you power and I will increase national grid. And now the national grid supplies, the national grid that used to supply a country of about 70 million people now has to supply a country going to about 250 million people,” she said.

Okorocha made this known during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, where he discussed Tinubu’s chances in the Southeast and the impact of his own emergence with a political ticket.

According to the former governor, the resentment previously directed at the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State was largely linked to the administration of former Governor Ikedi Ohakim and should not be interpreted as hostility towards Tinubu.

He maintained that the president has done nothing to warrant the resentment of the Igbo people, pointing to his longstanding relationships with people from the Southeast.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Wednesday during the launch of the Lagos Private Health Plans (LPHP) in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event was held under the theme, “Lagos Covered, a Shared Commitment, a Healthier Lagos.”

According to the governor, the enforcement of Executive Order EO/BOS/01 of 2024 will commence on January 1, 2027, giving individuals, businesses and employers until December 31, 2026, to secure the necessary health insurance coverage.

Sanwo-Olu explained that the policy is designed to ensure that residents can access healthcare services without suffering financial hardship due to medical expenses.

He noted that achieving universal health coverage would require the collective efforts of individuals, employers and the government. The governor also urged employers to see healthcare coverage for their workers as a necessary cost of doing business, just like pension contributions and other statutory obligations.

The newly launched Lagos Private Health Plans will cater mainly to salaried workers and corporate organisations, while the existing Ilera Eko scheme will continue to provide coverage for vulnerable residents and people working in the informal sector.

The governor also issued a strong warning to healthcare providers against refusing emergency treatment to patients because they cannot afford to pay immediately. He stressed that patients must first be stabilised before payment or insurance issues are discussed.

Sanwo-Olu further revealed that 21 Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) had already endorsed the new private health plans, describing the initiative as a collaborative effort between the state government and private healthcare operators.

With the January 2027 deadline approaching, residents, workers and employers in Lagos are expected to prepare for the new policy, which the government hopes will make healthcare more accessible and reduce the financial burden of medical treatment on households.

The Minister of Power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe, disclosed this on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

Tegbe described the prolonged detention of the equipment as “unacceptable,” explaining that unpaid charges and unresolved customs procedures had kept the containers trapped at the ports for years.

He said Tinubu directed the Ministry of Power to work with the Nigerian Ports Authority and Nigeria Customs Service to settle the outstanding issues and facilitate their release.

According to the minister, technical experts will inspect the equipment once cleared to determine what can still be used. Serviceable materials will be deployed to ongoing power projects, while obsolete items will be appropriately handled.

The directive comes as the Federal Government moves to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission network through the proposed East and West Super Grids, which are expected to raise transmission capacity from about 5,000MW to 19,000MW within two years.

Tegbe also announced approvals for transmission projects in Abuja, Lagos and the Lagos-Shagamu corridor, including new transmission lines and three 300MVA transformers for the Ikeja West Transmission Substation.

On the sector’s financial crisis, Tegbe said the Federal Government had paid ₦1.23 trillion out of ₦3.3 trillion owed to gas suppliers and other stakeholders, noting that the debts had contributed to gas shortages affecting power generation.

Meanwhile, construction has commenced on a new National Control Centre in Osogbo to replace the existing facility, which is 64 years old. The government is also working to energise completed substations in Kano, Katsina, Bauchi and Gombe.

However, she failed to report as directed. Investigators said GPS data from her monitoring device showed her last known location was Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on March 24, 2026, where the device stopped transmitting.

Hall had reportedly informed her probation officer that she was scheduled to fly to Minnesota, where she was to serve her sentence, but airline records showed she never boarded the flight.

A federal grand jury subsequently indicted her on October 23, 2026, for failing to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Hall had earlier pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud mostly older women through romance scams. Court documents said members of the syndicate posed online as generals, philanthropists and entrepreneurs, built romantic relationships with victims and later persuaded them to send money under false pretences.

Hall and her co-defendant, Kenneth Akpieyi, allegedly used Le Beau Monde LLC to process victims’ funds. Hall admitted responsibility for $851,207 in losses, while Akpieyi was held responsible for more than $3.5 million and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

If convicted of the new charge, Hall could receive up to 10 additional years behind bars, consecutive to her existing sentence.

In a statement on Thursday by the Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, Oluwabukola Khadijah Adeyemo, the government condemned illegal borehole drilling and groundwater abstraction conducted without valid authorisation from the commission.

Ms Adeyemo said LASWARCO was statutorily mandated under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, to regulate borehole drilling, groundwater abstraction and water supply services in the State.

The executive secretary warned that such unlawful activities could pose serious public health risks, lead to groundwater contamination, contribute to land subsidence and threaten the long-term water security of millions of Lagos State residents.

Ms Adeyemo stated, “Drilling or abstracting groundwater without LASWARCO authorisation is illegal and punishable under the Law.

“Every unregulated borehole endangers our collective future and compromises the sustainability of our environment. All intending drillers and abstractors must obtain the necessary permits from LASWARCO.”

She added that the commission would not hesitate to seal any facility found in violation and prosecute offenders.

“There is no scripture that says a church cannot give 20 per cent or 30 per cent. If the early church could come together and say we are selling our land and giving everything, we can also come together and say we are doing 10 per cent,” he said.

He further urged critics to stop focusing on biblical arguments surrounding tithing and consider the financial needs of religious institutions.

“So let us leave Melchizedek out of the conversation. Leave the Old Testament out of the conversation. Let us talk about it like we are talking about a barbing community, or a hairdressing community, or an estate community,” the apostle stated.

Emphasising the cost of maintaining a church, Ayintete asked, “We have a church to run, yes or no? There is diesel to buy, yes or no? There’s microphone to buy, yes or no?”

Although Nigeria already has a prisoner-transfer arrangement with the United Kingdom, the proposed amendment is expected to expand the country’s options for reaching similar agreements with other nations.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded actress Doris Ogala at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of her bail application over alleged cyberbullying, cyberstalking and attempted extortion of Pastor Chris Okafor.

Ogala was arraigned on three counts by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation before Justice Akintayo Aluko on allegations bordering on the publication of intimate photographs, dissemination of allegedly false electronic messages and threats against the cleric.

The prosecution counsel, Tolulope Mokolu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between September 2024 and March 2026.

Mokolu alleged that Ogala knowingly and intentionally published nude and intimate photographs of Okafor on her social media accounts without his consent.

The prosecution also alleged that the publication was capable of causing annoyance, embarrassment, emotional distress and injury to the cleric’s reputation, adding that the images were subsequently circulated across social media blogs and platforms.

He accused Ogala of intentionally publishing and disseminating videos, recordings and electronic messages containing information she allegedly knew to be false, with the intention of bullying, threatening, intimidating and harassing Okafor.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant allegedly transmitted electronic communications threatening to continue publishing menacing and intimate material about the cleric unless he compensated her or bought her a house.

Mokolu said she allegedly made the threats with the intention of damaging Okafor’s reputation and exposing him to ridicule and public opprobrium.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections ,24(1)(a), 24(2)(a) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read to her.

Following her plea, prosecution counsel Mokolu asked the court to fix a date for trial and order her remand pending the determination of the case.

Mokolu also informed the court that he had only been served with the defendant’s bail application on Wednesday and needed time to study it and file a response.

Opposing the remand request, defence counsel, N. C. Atulomah, argued that the decision to grant bail rested within the court’s discretion.

He urged the court to release the actress, adding that she was a governorship candidate of a political party in Abia State, and undertook to produce her in court at the next hearing.

The prosecutor opposed the defence’s request, arguing that he was still within the time allowed to respond to the bail application.

In his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defence had not placed sufficient material before the court to justify the request for the defendant’s release.

The judge, however, ordered an accelerated hearing of the bail application and adjourned the matter until October 30, 2026, for its hearing.

He further ordered that Ogala be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of the bail application.

The lawmakers also called on relevant security agencies to investigate travel agencies allegedly involved in the trafficking and exploitation of Nigerians abroad, particularly those who may be using deceptive recruitment schemes to lure victims into dangerous situations.

The lawmakers further proposed legislation to regulate short-let apartments, expressing concerns that poorly monitored rental arrangements could provide criminals with hiding places and allow them to evade security checks.

These resolutions followed the consideration of a report on measures to protect Nigerians from human trafficking, slavery and human rights abuses in Libya.

Speaking on the issue, Senate President Godswill Akpabio stressed the need for landlords to know the identities of the people renting their properties. He warned that renting out houses to unidentified individuals could unknowingly expose property owners to criminal activities.

Akpabio therefore urged the government to review existing tenancy laws to ensure that tenants can be properly identified and traced when necessary.

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal also supported the move, revealing that he had initiated similar legislation while serving as Speaker of a State House of Assembly. He called for proper tenant registration, rent control measures, security checks and verification of property ownership.

The congress said temporary wage awards were inadequate to address the worsening economic hardship confronting Nigerian workers, insisting that the government should increase salaries rather than introduce relief measures that might not be implemented consistently.

The TUC also accused the Federal Government of failing to fulfil its 2023 wage award obligations to some workers and neglecting a seven-month-old agreement on the adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure for health workers under JOHESU.

The congress made its position known in a statement issued on Wednesday by its President, Festus Osifo, and Secretary-General, N.A. Toro, following a National Administrative Council meeting held in Abuja on October 8, 2026.

According to the statement, the congress had written to the Federal Government through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, demanding an immediate salary review in response to rising living costs.

The TUC argued that the government did not need to wait for negotiations on the national minimum wage before increasing workers’ salaries, noting that there was no legal ceiling on how much employers could pay their workers.

It said, “The Federal Government should review increasing workers’ salaries. This was hinged on the fact that the government does not require the minimum wage to be negotiated before increasing workers’ pay, as there is no maximum wage law in the country.”

The congress proposed that the Federal Government could raise the salary of the lowest-paid worker to N300,000 from the current N70,000 and apply the appropriate consequential adjustments to other salary levels.

It maintained that while negotiations on the national minimum wage remained important, they should not be used as a reason to delay urgent salary increases for workers struggling with rising food, transportation, healthcare and other essential expenses.

The TUC said its leadership had held consultative meetings with government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, during which it rejected the proposed wage award.

Explaining its opposition, the congress said the previous wage award negotiated in October 2023 had not been fully implemented, raising concerns about the credibility of another temporary arrangement.

“The wage award agreed between FGN and organised labour on the 2nd of October 2023 was to be implemented until a minimum wage was agreed in 2024 but was never implemented holistically,” the statement said.

It added that some workers were still being owed one or two months’ payments, while others had not received the allowance at all.

The Congress also alleged that workers who received the award did not always get their payments monthly, with some experiencing intervals of one or two months and having to make repeated demands before receiving their entitlements.

It further claimed that more than 80 per cent of states and workers in the informal sector had not benefited from any form of wage award.

“How do we go back to the same wage award that never benefited all workers? How can workers be expected to trust fresh promises when previous obligations remain outstanding?” the TUC asked.

The congress insisted that a permanent salary increase would provide more dependable relief than temporary allowances, which it said had failed to reach workers uniformly.

It stated, “Negotiations of a new national minimum wage must not become an excuse for postponing urgent pay increment.”

Beyond salary increases, the TUC called on federal, state and local governments to introduce measurable interventions to reduce the cost of essential goods and services.

It urged the authorities to ensure timely payment of salaries and pensions, protect existing jobs, curb exploitative labour practices and revitalise the productive sector to create decent employment.

The congress said economic hardship was not limited to federal workers but also affected state and local government employees, pensioners, private-sector workers and people in the informal economy.

It called for adequately funded interventions with clear implementation timelines, arguing that government announcements must translate into tangible improvements in the living conditions of Nigerians.

JOHESU agreement remains unimplemented.

The TUC also accused the Federal Government of failing to honour an agreement reached with the Joint Health Sector Unions after months of industrial action.

According to the congress, its President, Osifo, led a delegation of organised labour, including JOHESU leaders and a representative of another labour congress, in negotiations aimed at resolving the dispute.

The negotiations culminated in a conciliation meeting at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, where both parties agreed to a communiqué.

The Federal Government delegation was led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, alongside the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, and the then Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

The TUC said JOHESU suspended its industrial action in good faith after the agreement was signed, but accused the government of failing to fulfil its own obligations.

It said the agreement provided for the resolution of outstanding issues relating to the adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure, known as CONHESS.

However, the congress alleged that seven months after the agreement, the adjustment remained unimplemented.

“While the workers have kept their side of the bargain, the government hasn’t kept its side of the agreement,” the statement said.

The TUC described the delay as a breach of the principle of good faith, warning that failure to honour agreements could undermine confidence in collective bargaining between the government and organised labour.

It demanded the immediate implementation of the CONHESS adjustment, publication of a clear implementation timetable, provision of the necessary budgetary allocations and resolution of all outstanding issues in consultation with the relevant unions.

The congress said health workers should not be expected to continue delivering essential services while commitments made to them remained unfulfilled.

“The TUC demands tangible action, not further assurances,” it said, pledging to stand with affected unions and pursue lawful measures to compel the government to comply with the agreement.

The congress reiterated that workers were not seeking favours but demanding improved living conditions and respect for their rights.

“Workers’ welfare is not a privilege. Agreements must be honoured. Workers’ rights must be respected. Government must comply,” the statement added.

The TUC said it was awaiting the outcome of its scheduled meeting with the Federal Government before deciding on its next line of action.

The dispute comes against the backdrop of Nigeria’s prolonged cost-of-living crisis, which has intensified pressure on organised labour to secure higher wages and measures to protect workers’ purchasing power.

In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu signed the new national minimum wage law, raising the statutory minimum monthly wage from N30,000 to N70,000 following negotiations between the Federal Government and organised labour.

The agreement followed months of disagreements over the amount workers should earn amid the effects of the removal of petrol subsidy and other economic reforms on transportation, food and household expenses.

Organised labour had initially demanded a substantially higher minimum wage, while the government and employers raised concerns about the ability of employers, particularly state governments and businesses, to meet the proposed increases.

The resulting N70,000 minimum wage established a new statutory floor for eligible workers, but it did not automatically resolve demands for adjustments to salaries across different grades or address the broader rise in the cost of living.

The 2023 wage award was introduced as an interim relief measure during negotiations over the new minimum wage. The TUC’s latest statement renews concerns about the implementation of that arrangement and argues that future relief should be structured around permanent salary increases.

The JOHESU dispute represents a separate but related challenge involving remuneration and the implementation of agreements in the health sector. The union’s demands over CONHESS have been a source of industrial tension, with the latest TUC statement accusing the government of failing to implement the adjustment covered by the settlement.

The congress did not announce an immediate nationwide strike in its statement but said it would determine its next steps after receiving the outcome of its scheduled meeting with the Federal Government.

Ike had accused Olayinka of violating his fundamental right to privacy by publishing his voter registration details on his X handle in May.

The actor alleged that the publication exposed his personal information, including details of the transfer of his voter registration from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory.

Ike subsequently instituted the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, through his lawyer, L.T. Adeh, seeking N10bn in aggravated and general damages against the respondents.

The actor, who aspired to contest the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, lost the party’s primary election.

In the suit, Ike asked the court to declare that Olayinka’s publication of his voter registration details without his consent “amounts to gross breach and violation of the applicant’s fundamental right to privacy and the protection of personal data”.

He relied on Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution, Article 12 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and Sections 24 and 39 of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, to support his claim.

The actor also sought a declaration that INEC owed him and other registered voters a “statutory duty of care” to protect their personal information against unauthorised access.

He further asked the court to declare that INEC’s June 2 press statement, issued in response to the circulation of his voter information on social media, amounted to a tacit admission of guilt and liability.

Ike sought an order directing Olayinka to remove the disputed publication from his X account, #OlayinkaLere, and tender a written apology for the alleged infringement of his rights.

However, INEC and Olayinka urged the court to dismiss the suit, insisting that the publication did not amount to a breach of Ike’s fundamental rights.

In its counter-affidavit, INEC maintained that the information complained about was neither classified, sensitive nor confidential, arguing that the electoral body was legally empowered to make certain voter information available to the public.

The commission’s response was deposed to by Anthonia Makwe, an assistant director and data protection officer in its Legal Drafting and Clearance Department.

INEC argued that it had the “statutory and constitutional power to make available information of its voters to the general public without the consent of any registered voter”.

The commission said its statutory responsibilities included the compilation, maintenance, display, publication, certification and management of the voters’ register in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

It also denied that the information allegedly published by Olayinka originated from its database.

INEC stated that it had not breached its statutory duty to protect voters’ personal information within its secured portal and restricted database.

Olayinka, in his counter-affidavit, also denied wrongdoing, maintaining that the document he published contained only Ike’s name and passport photograph, which he claimed were already in the public domain.

He argued that the information was not obtained through any unlawful means and that he owed the actor no duty of confidentiality requiring his consent before publishing the material.

The FCT minister’s aide further contended that Ike, having presented himself as a public figure and expressed an intention to contest an election, could not claim to have suffered trauma from the circulation of his name and photograph.

Olayinka also argued that the publication was made after Ike allegedly led a group of hoodlums to INEC’s office to disrupt its activities following his declaration of interest in the election.

According to him, the publication was intended to remind the actor that he had recently transferred his voter registration area and draw public attention to the relevant electoral provisions.

He further cited Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, arguing that INEC was required to publish the voters’ register within the period prescribed by law ahead of a general election.

Olayinka also relied on INEC’s June 2 statement, which he said confirmed that there had been no external breach of its continuous voter registration database, hacking incident or unauthorised access to its information technology infrastructure.

The statement, as quoted in his counter-affidavit, said, “There was no external breach of its CVR database, no hacking incident and no unauthorised external access to the commission’s ICT infrastructure.”

He argued that he was not a data controller under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, and therefore had no statutory obligation to safeguard the actor’s information in the manner alleged.

Rejecting Ike’s demand for damages, Olayinka described the N10bn claim as being made in bad faith, calling it “an indication that the applicant is a gold digger who wants to reap where he did not sow”.

He insisted that he should not be held liable for publishing information he claimed was already publicly accessible and urged the court to dismiss the suit in the interest of justice.

The Vice President also brought up Cameroon’s oil refining situation, claiming that the country’s only refinery had been shut down for about five to six years and alleging that the country had struggled to compete with cheaper fuel imported from Nigeria.

He warned that Nigeria should not return to a system where the government effectively subsidised fuel consumption beyond its borders, arguing that such an arrangement placed an unfair burden on the country.

“Unless we want to revert back to the old status quo of Nigeria being the godfather or the Father Christmas of Africa, of Nigerian oil going as far as Central African Republic,” Shettima said.

He urged Nigerians to carefully examine the facts and figures surrounding fuel pricing and subsidy policies before drawing conclusions, stressing the importance of making decisions based on reliable information.

The experts gave the advice at a national training workshop on snakebite handling, treatment and management at the Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos, on Tuesday.

A medical expert, Abubakar Ballah, described snakebite as a neglected tropical disease, identifying the carpet viper as responsible for about 66 per cent of snakebite deaths in Nigeria.

Ballah cited the World Health Organisation estimates of 5.4 million snakebites globally each year, resulting in 81,000 to 138,000 deaths and about 400,000 cases of permanent disability.

He identified Gombe, Plateau, Bauchi, Benue and Taraba as major snakebite-endemic states, particularly within the Niger-Benue trough and Sudan Savanna.

According to him, farmers, herders, children and hunters are among the most vulnerable, with cases often peaking during farming, rainy and harvest seasons.

Ballah identified the carpet viper, puff adder and black-necked spitting cobra as Nigeria’s three medically important snakes.

He said their venom could cause severe bleeding, tissue destruction, kidney injury, neurological complications and respiratory paralysis.

He warned that delayed hospital presentation and harmful first aid could worsen patients’ conditions.

He said such practices include applying tight tourniquets, cutting bite wounds, using animal dung and resorting to traditional remedies.

Citing clinical cases, Ballah said some patients died following delayed treatment and harmful first aid, while others recovered after early hospital presentation and appropriate care.

He identified the high cost of antivenom, poor healthcare access, bad roads and inadequate blood bank services as factors contributing to snakebite deaths.

According to him, antivenom costs between ₦170,000 and ₦250,000 per vial.

Ballah stressed that trained healthcare personnel should administer antivenom when clinically indicated and monitor patients for allergic reactions and other complications.

He called for quality antivenom supplies, proper storage, improved referral systems and community education to reduce snakebite-related deaths.

In a separate presentation titled “Dangerous Snakes of Lagos State, Nigeria,” wildlife conservation expert, Dr Mark Ofua, advised residents against attempting to catch, kill or handle snakes.

Ofua said snake encounters could occur in mangroves, swamps, farms, gardens, building sites, drains, compounds and stores.

He urged residents to exercise caution in such environments and leave snake handling to trained personnel equipped with appropriate tools.

He identified the puff adder, black-necked spitting cobra, forest cobra, green mamba and Gaboon viper among species requiring particular attention in Lagos.

Ofua also discussed the boomslang and carpet viper, noting that the presence of some species, particularly the carpet viper, required confirmation through local records.

He cautioned residents against identifying dangerous snakes solely by their head shape, pupils, colour or size.

He noted that some venomous species could be difficult to recognise and that protective equipment did not eliminate the risk of bites.

Ofua advised suspected snakebite victims to remain calm and still, immobilise the affected limb, remove tight items and seek immediate medical attention.

He warned against cutting or sucking bite wounds, applying tourniquets, using traditional remedies or attempting to chase and kill the snake.

For venom spat into the eyes, he recommended immediate and prolonged irrigation with water.

Both experts emphasised public awareness, prompt hospital treatment and safer interactions with wildlife as essential measures to reduce snakebite injuries and deaths.

Earlier, the Director-General of NCF, Dr Joseph Onoja, said snakes played important roles in biodiversity and ecosystem balance.

Onoja said snakes help control rodent populations, warning that unchecked rodent increases could heighten the risk of infections such as Lassa fever.

“It becomes important that we learn to live as one in harmony with nature and more specifically snakes,” he said.

The two-day national training workshop, scheduled for Oct. 27 and 28, focuses on improving snakebite handling, treatment and management.

Speaking at Chatham House in London, Oyedele cited a government survey showing that food expenses exceed the total income of some households.

“In fact, there was a survey we did that shows that up to 120 per cent of household income is spent on food. Like, how do you spend 120 per cent of your income? You borrow food before the end of the month,” he said.

He noted that Nigeria’s poverty rate remains above 50 per cent despite an unemployment rate of about five per cent, pointing to the growing number of employed people struggling to meet their basic needs.

“That tells you something. As a policymaker, you don’t sit back and say we don’t have unemployment. You have working poor,” he stated.

Oyedele attributed rising food costs to structural challenges, including low agricultural yields, seasonal farming, post-harvest losses, inadequate storage, high transport costs and insecurity in farming communities. He cited cases where up to 60 per cent of tomatoes are lost after harvest.

He also said food inflation stood at 19.6 per cent in September, noting that food prices were declining more slowly than headline inflation.

“Macroeconomic stability means little to a mother who still cannot afford food,” he added.

To tackle the situation, the minister said the government was investing in agricultural technology, irrigation, storage facilities and financing for smallholder farmers.

He disclosed that the administration’s cash transfer programme had reached more than 10 million households, with digital payments and National Identification Number verification used to reduce leakages.

Oyedele added that agriculture and non-tradable services, which employ 81.4 per cent of working Nigerians, were being prioritised to boost incomes and reduce dependence on cash transfers.

“The purpose of governance is to solve problems, not to blame people. I will not blame anybody. We will create that new Nigeria that is possible,” he said.

He identified corruption as a central obstacle to national development, pledging a more aggressive campaign against it if elected.

“We need a revolution that will turn this country around, and we are committed to that. The APC-led government under President Tinubu has failed Nigeria,” Obi said.

Temitope Ajayi, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, made this known on Monday while reacting to a report indicating a significant increase in manufacturing jobs in 2025.

In a post on X, Ajayi accused opposition figures of portraying the economy negatively for political reasons, particularly as the country prepares for future elections.

He maintained that the impact of Tinubu’s economic reforms was becoming evident, pointing to rising employment figures as proof that the policies were beginning to yield results.

According to Ajayi, Nigeria’s manufacturing sector created 81,174 jobs in 2025, compared with 34,769 jobs recorded in 2024. This represents a 133.47 per cent increase in employment within the sector.

The report attributed the growth to a recovery in factory activities during the first half of 2025. Other contributing factors included a more stable exchange rate for imported raw materials and production inputs, improved business confidence, and increased exports of locally manufactured goods.
