Small Business Opportunities Panel

On monday I attended the panel on small business opportunities in aerospace, and it was great to learn about how different companies got started in the industry. Learning about the SBIR program was especially interesting with different sides, from awardees to a program manager to a lobbyist presenting their views on the program. I hope AIAA keeps on sponsoring such discussion panels in the future, because as a student, they are important learning opportunities.

MacArthur Maze! Travel tips to get to Infotech@Aerospace

I’m flying out this weekend to Sonoma Wine Country through Oakland International Airport and was concerned how the recent Truck Meltdown would affect my travel plans. Transit.511.org and the Doubletree Hotel in Sonoma were both helpful when providing alternate routes.
When researching my travel plans to Rohnert Park, CA the best route to the Hotel from the Oakland Airport is the Sonoma County Airport Express. I could rent a car from Oakland Airport, but I prefer to let the locals do the driving.

AIAA UAV Standards

AIAA currently has only one standard in UAV technology. Terminology for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Remotely Operated Aircraft (R-103-2004) seems like a nice basis for a comprehensive library of UAV standards. Should we leave the creation of UAV standards to other standards developers, or do AIAA members want to get involved in this important area to support the AIAA reputation as "the" place for space standards? What do you think?
