Races are scheduled throughout the year with various locations in Florida, Indiana and New York City. Clearwater Beach will once again welcome Super Boat International for the National Championships and Key West will host the most unforgettable race of the year, the 32nd Annual Key West World Championships. Parrot Heads Meeting of the Minds in Key West

With over 200 chapters in the US, Australia, Canada and Europe, the Parrot Head Club’s purpose is to assist in community and environmental issues and provide a variety of social events for those interested in the music of Jimmy Buffett and the tropical way of life he stands for. Each year the Parrot Head Club holds a “Meeting of the Minds” in Key West, FL open to all members of this charitable, educational organization. Starting on Wednesday October 29th through Sunday November 2nd, members are invited to attend the scheduled events. This year, the “Meeting of the Minds” offers the chance to enjoy a variety of great musicians, attend charitable events including an auction, join celebrations on the beach, and participate in the Margaritaville Street Festival.

Bahama Village Goombay Festival

Goombay weekend marks the beginning of Fantasy Fest, the island city’s 10-day masking and costuming gala famous the world over. Goombay centers around Petronia Street in Bahama Village, just off Key West’s legendary Duval Street. Each year the festival attracts thousands of people who view and purchase African arts and crafts, sample foods and delicacies from a variety of cultures and countries, and enjoy live musical entertainment ranging from gospel to reggae.

The festival’s main entertainment stage is located at the corner of Emma and Petronia streets, and features nonstop musical entertainment from a variety of Caribbean-influenced entertainers. It’s a weekend of island delights on America’s favorite Caribbean playground…Cayo Hueso!

Catch Up with the Big Fish at the 2012 S.L.A.M. Celebrity Tournament

Anglers from across the nation can fish with celebrities at the annual Mercury S.L.A.M. event in Key West. The event will take place from September 7^th through the 9^th. S.L.AM. stands for Southernmost Light-Tackle Anglers Masters, and celebrates the tradition of fly fishing in Florida. The S.L.A.M., sponsored by the Redbone family, is a so-called “catch-and-release event, where anglers try to haul in tarpon, permit, and bonefish. Catch one of each in the same day and you’ve nailed a Flats Grand Slam. Among this years celebrity participants are former Major League Baseball third baseman Wade Boggs, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer and Denver Bronco Mark Cooper, and former space shuttle astronaut Bruce Melnick.

A day before the S.L.A.M. opens, interested anglers can participate in the Superfly tournament. It’s a one day, one fly event and has a $350 per angler fee to enter for those also in the S.L.AM. Otherwise, it’s $500. Entry fees for the S.L.A.M. stand at $3,000 for a single angler to fish with a celebrity and $3,500 for a two angler team. All fees, which include two days’ charter fees with a professional guide, come out at $3,500 for a two-angler team or $3,000 for an angler to fish with a celebrity. The Superfly entry fee is $350 per angler who also fishes the S.L.A.M., or $500 per angler otherwise. Points will be accumulated for catching and releasing fish in three categories: fly, bait, and artificial. Prizes are then awarded to the top the individual anglers, teams, and guides.

The Southernmost Beach Café is hosting the 3rd Annual Sam Adams 6 Course Beer Dinner on Sunday September 2^nd at 6 p.m. The event, sponsored by Sam Adams Brewery, features beer tasting and a six course dinner menu. The $100 cost per person includes tax and gratuity.

Popular dishes include Boston spiked and sugar cane skewered Bar-b-q shrimp. Diners will also enjoy Crab and avocado timbale with endive salad, as well as Angry Orchard and grilled flatbread sandwiches. The latter features caramelized onion, shaved black truffles, duck confit, goat cheese, and arugula, all drizzled with a herb oil.

Seafood fans will relish the whitewater tuna tacos and fresh blackened Ahi tuna. Lamb lollipops will also be served. For dessert there’s Key Lime Pie Sundae, which consists of a homemade graham cracker cookie with key lime ice cream on top, dark chocolate syrup, and pop rocks. And diners will be able to wash it all down with plenty of Sam Adams lager and Whitewater IPA. It should be a great evening of beer, food, and fun.

Key West Poker Run 2012

Forty years ago, Phil Peterson came up with the idea of a poker run to help boost the motorcycle business, and the Key West tourist trade during the slow September season. What started with 46 riders has grown to become South Florida’s biggest motorcycle party weekend of the year. Today, more than 10,000 riders from all over the U.S. enjoy this event. They rumble from Miami to Key West, enjoying the sunshine, ocean breezes, and riding on the many bridges that cross over the beautiful turquoise water.

Along the way, they make five stops and draw a card at each stop. The winner is the lucky guy – or gal – who draws the best hand. If you draw one of the top ten hands, you get a chance to play one round of Texas Hold ‘Em at Cowboy Bill’s, 618 Duval Street in Key West. The Round will begin Saturday Night at 11:00 p.m. featuring a winner take all – a brand new Sportster 883 Iron!

The City of Key West blocks off an eight-block stretch of Duval Street. A huge bike show is held in front of Rick’s/ Durty Harry’s and Sloppy Joe’s Bar on Saturday. Locals, tourists, and bikers all enjoy the sights and sounds of this mini-Mardi Gras with its carnival atmosphere, music, food and cold Budweiser.

You can purchase your poker hands starting September 1st until 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 15th. The Poker Run does not begin until Friday, September 14th at 8:00 a.m., and ends in Key West on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. They only request a $10 donation per hand, and there is no limit to the number of hands you can play.

Key West BrewFest Aug. 30 – Sept. 3, 2012

The 3rd annual Key West BrewFest will be held in Key West, FL on August 30th through September 3rd. This year’s festival will feature new and signature events hosted by local restaurants and bars in an effort to raise money for the Key West Sunrise Rotary of the Conch Republic.

Beer School, Beer Dinners, Beer Seminars, Beer Brunches, Football Tailgate, Pool Parties, BrewMasters, After Parties featuring specialty beers, and of course, the Signature Event held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 all make up this exciting annual festival!
