TeraCopy is a freeware that replaces Explorer’s copy and move function, enabling you to handle files faster than the default Windows file handling functions. TeraCopy can be run as a standalone file copier or it can be integrated as Windows shell function, so you won’t need to bring up its main interface each time to copy and move files to and from different locations.

As compare to the default Windows Copier, TeraCopy offers better functionality such as ability to pause and resume copy/move operations, fixing problems in case of failed file transfer and simple file verification. Additionally, the program has ability to check md5 checksums to check if a file has been copied properly from one drive to another.

To use TeraCopy, you simply drag files to the Windows or use the usual copy-and-paste method.

I’ve tested Teracopy 2.27 on a Windows 7 PC, regardless of the claims and other editorial reviews i don’t believe that the transfers are tad faster than Windows. You’d better test it for yourself. On the plus side, this small utility is more than just copy and paste, you will appreciate the resume capacity which lets save you from copying the whole thing all over again. And, it works fine without hogging down system resources while copying data.

Smart Archive Reloaded is a free plugin that make it easy to find older posts by cataloging them by date and category. You can download Plugin from here. Once you have activated the plugin you will see a “Smart Archive” link under settings tab in your wordpress admin panel. The ‘Smart Archive” link  lets you explore all the settings that you need to manage the plugin. The options available to manage this plugin are pretty basic, plus no coding is required. You can configure how you want your archives to display and you have the options to filter certain categories by ID and formatting options for date and months.

To display archives you just have to add a short code anywhere in your theme or in a separate new page. Below is the screenshot of archives displayed by this plugin. Beautiful, isn’t it ?

Activate and Use Priority inbox in Gmail

To activate this feature, go to your settings, click the inbox option and then choose ‘priority inbox’ from inbox type. It will automatically scan your inbox and replace the classic inbox with two major sections, namely, important and unread and everything else.

You can customize and manage the inbox sections included in your priority inbox. For this, go to settings and click the priority inbox tab. Use the ‘Inbox style’ drop-down box to select which inbox you want to include in your priority inbox. You can also choose how many items that section should show, or you can remove that section entirely from inbox.

Just like Gmail’s spam system, you can train the priority box feature at recognizing and handling your incoming messages efficiently. The priority inbox feature can be trained over time,  by marking an email as less or more important. Use the arrow sign that appears next to a message, to teach message’s importance to Gmail.

I use this feature and it’s really efficient in recognizing e-mail behaviors, I recommend you to give a try to this ingenious feature.

You are probably familiar with Addthis, a popular web service that provide social bookmarking and sharing buttons for your website. This site also offers a handy way to send website links to people. All you need to do is to get a custom ‘bookmarket’ from their tools page and add it to your browser’s toolbar. When you click this bookmarklet, a small window pops up. This pop-up window consist of icons of social networks or sharing services. Click on ‘more’ and find the ‘Email icon’(1).

When this icon is clicked, a compose window(2) is displayed and a link to the web page you’re viewing is attached with the message body. Add email details and additional text to the message body, and click on the send button. Enter the Captcha code correctly and you are done.  A minute or two later, the link with message arrive in your inbox. Isn’t that so easy !

Pokki is a collection of small apps-or Pokkies- that bring your favorite web services seamlessly to your Desktop. The Pokkies are lightweight apps and take only fewer than five seconds to download. Install an app via Pokki and an icon for that service will appear on the Taskbar, along with one for Pokki itself (acorn icon), which you can use to add other apps. Clicking an icon will then open a mini version of that service and if you click anywhere out of a Pokki app window, the app returns to the Taskbar. Pokki is free and available now for Windows 7 only.

Gmail Pokki look like the familiar browser-based Gmail environment. Reading Gmail through this app is pretty basic. Click on the icon and you get a pop-up dialog box which shows your inbox, drafts, trash and sent folders. From this dialog box, you can easily compose and send emails, read unread messages, and get access to draft, labeled and starred items. You can also mark spam, save email to draft, add star or labels, move emails, and open a browser window to go straight to your email.

The app has a powerful  inbuilt search box that will search for your search terms in inbox, trash, draft and recycle bin folders.  Another interesting feature of Gmail Pokki is the real-time notification. Most of us have our Gmail inbox open in one of the tabs. Still, it becomes painful to keep shuffing between what you’re doing currently and checking email. Fortunately, the Gmail Pokki let you check your mail without ever leaving the window you’re currently on.A little white number will appear on the icon corner to notify you of new messages and updates.

Verdict

This is a lightweight app and does not require large resources. Best of all, it work smooth even if you’re are on an unreliable or slow connection. So, if you’re looking for a better Gmail experience and want to increase your productivity, this app is a real-time saver. The few drawbacks of  Gmail Pokki- yes there are some- more advanced features such as support for multiple accounts and email attachment are missing in this release.

Unlike other similar apps which are crammed with options, Wunderlist interface is straightforward and very easy to use. The first thing to do when you start Wunderlist, is to create a free account. This will help you synchronize your tasks across all the computers and mobile devices that have Wunderlist installed. Although, you can easily skip this step to use the application right away, but it’s advisable to signup for a free account, since it’s a quick process. The main interface displayed afterwards which lists tasks on the left side and tasks list on right pane. Task lists are used to categorize and filter tasks for speedy management.

Creating a new task is quick and easy. Click the text box available on the top of left panel(1)and start typing to add the list of tasks. You can set when they’re due- use the clock icon on the left side of text box(2)and cross them out when done. Tasks are marked as complete with a click on the square at the front of them(3). The completed tasks moves to the “done” section at the bottom of your list. To edit task you can just have to double-click it and edit the text as needed.

You can prioritize your tasks using a small star symbol(4). Simply click on star symbol to mark the tasks that really matter. The tasks can even have extra information such as a note associated with them. It can be accessed using the small symbol next to each task(5).

The bottom taskbar help you synchronize and sort your tasks with a simple mouse click. From here you can toggle between all, starred or done tasks. You can also sort tasks with assigned day or date and the tasks without any date.

The application even lets you have multiple lists. These lists can be used to categorize tasks. To add new lists, click on the ‘add list’ button in the right corner. All the created lists can be found in the left pane. For the convenience of users, Wunderlist has hotkeys for essential functions, such as [CTRL] + [L] to create new lists. Thankfully, the first time when you launch the app, you will see all the keyboard hotkeys listed on the main section.

You can print your lists, send them to your friends by emails, or upload and get a public link to share with people who don’t even use the app. Wunderlist also comes with a couple of background themes that give it a stylish look.

It is simple but effective to-do tool that take care of all your task management needs. The interface is prompt and responsive. Synchronization feature keep your tasks up-to-date wherever you go. You can even work offline, it will sync your data, when you’re back online.

It runs on everything. It offers cross- platform apps that runs on Windows, Linux and Mac, and has apps for mobile platforms such as Android, Apple iOS, Windows phones OS and Blackberry OS. It even has a web version so you can work on other computers without installing any app.

Wishlist

The desktop app take up too much screen space; it would be better to have an option that turns it into an app with minimalist interface like Doomi. And, it does not have alarms or reminder, although it used to.

Closer Look at Martview

Martview is a free PDF reader with an eye-candy interface. The charming design and user-friendly interface make Martview stand out from other PDF readers. The aim of this program is to recreate the book-reading experience to the maximum and it gets the work done without any fuss.

The program is pleasure to use, especially the virtual page flipping feature that lets you read a PDF with a natural feeling as if you are turning the actual pages of a real book. You can flip a page, just dragging the page to any side or by scrolling mouse wheel and there are some handy keyboard shortcuts to perform various functions; you can customize the keyboard shortcut from program’s option. In addition to the “flipping view”, it also offers “horizontal slide”  and “vertical slide” views; for quick browsing through pages. It also provide a range of easy-to-sue tools that let you zoom in and out, access bookmarks and jump from page to page.

There is an integrated bookshelf where you can organize books and magazines in the software, and download new tiles from library – it has a huge catalogue of free magazines across different topics such as health, food, music, technology and so on. These books are uploaded by Martview users around the world, and you can also upload and share books on Martview online library.

The program is even optimized to work with touch screen devices. So if you use a touchscreen capable hardware, you  might never go back to other alternative PDF readers. Martview currently supports PDFs, CBZ/CBR and jpg/gif/png image files, as well as its own MART format.

Verdict

With eBooks and user manuals supporting the PDF format exclusively, it’s become pertinent for PC users to have a program that can present those files in enjoyable and easy manner. That’s why, i give a thumbs up to this eBook reader.

There is one downside of this program. All online documents are in MART format and once you download them, there is not any option or tool for converting MART format into others.  Hopefully, the Martview developers will learn from feedbacks and make further tweaks to the application in future.

Minus Share is a free tool that adds a new entry to your windows explorer ‘send to’ context menu, allowing you to share massive files on Minus online storage (read full review).

With Minus share, you can share any file anonymously without any account. But we highly recommend you to sign up for Minus because guest users have few limitations – they cannot  edit  options for uploaded content and guest file uploads expire after 30 days. You can upload as many files as you like, provided each one is less than 2GB (hefty indeed) in size. This tools also allow you to upload multiple files simultaneously.

Select the files and folders you want to share, click right button of your mouse to open Windows Context menu and from ‘Send to’ menu select Minus. It will open a small window where you can give a title for gallery or upload the files to an existing gallery. Once uploaded, it gives to a direct link to your gallery and files and you can also edit ‘share URL’ as per your convenience.

We like that Minus share gives you several options for sharing your files once they’re uploaded, including direct links, buttons for Facebook, Twitter and email.

Well, now we will show you how to copy, install and boot Windows 7 from a USB flash device. Since you are reading this, we’ll assume you have already made the decision to install Windows 7 and have verified that your hardware is compatible. Before you begin, you will require the following:

» USB Flash Drive (4GB minimum is enough to hold the content of Windows 7)

» Window 7 Image File (ISO Image or NRG)

» UNetBootin (a standalone app that automates the process of installing a OS to a USBdrive)

Step1: Plugin your USB flash drive to USB port and format it. Make sure your flash drive is using NTFS file system. If not, Right-click your flash drive, click Format and choose NTFS in the file system drop-down and now format your flash drive.

Step2: Download the UNetbootin from and ‘Run’ the executable. First mount the Windows 7 ISO- click ‘Browse’ and open the Windows 7 ISO file. See the screenshot below (no need to choose distribution).

Step3: Click OK and it will begin extracting all the installation files to USB drive. This  will take some time (15-20 min approx.). When the process is finished, you will be able to see the files on the flash drive as you would if you opened the installation disc.

Step4: When you need to install a fresh Windows 7 OS, just plugin this USB drive and start the System. You may need to change your BIOS settings (press F1, F2, or DEL while your system loading files of your existing OS) to boot from a USB drive.

Why you need it ?

First, You have a netbook and would like to upgrade it to Windows 7. But you may be wondering how to do it without a DVD drive or expensive external DVD Drive.  Luckily, this Windows installation guide does just that.

Second, a flash drive is much more responsive than an optical drive, so the installation process will be faster.

When you delete a file, only references to it are removed – the file itself stays on the disk until it’s overwritten. This means some software could still find and retrieve the files if they get access to your hard disk. Fortunately, Recuva can help you in times like this; it can recover the files that have been deleted from your camera’s memory card, USB thumb drive, and your PC’s My Documents folder, Recycle Bin and other locations, and restore them to the destination of your choice.

Recover Files and Photos Using Recuva

Recuva offers a dedicated ‘wizard’ for rescuing lost images, files and folders. This wizard guides you through the recovering process which makes the entire process pleasantly painless.When you first start Recuva, the recovery wizard should start automatically. Select the type of files you are want recover(1), then specify where the photos were deleted from- such as Memory card, USB thumb drive or any location on your PC. Click Next, then Start, Recuva will scan and display all retrievable files(2).

And now, you will see the accidently deleted files from the chosen location , select the ones you want and click the Recover Button, restore them to the destination of your choice.

If your initial Recuva search doesn’t turn up the files you’re looking for, Click Options, Actions and select ‘Deep Scan’ – a slower intensive mode. Click OK and run another scan. This will search the location more thoroughly for your lost files.

We’ve tested Recuva, and we must say this amazing tool live up to its name (as the phonetic name implies), it successfully recovered all the files which were deleted from our USB Thumb drive. Though we’ve not tested but there are many claims that it’s also good at retrieving corrupted files from partially damaged hard drives & external storage mediums.
