Checking your entire inbox, only to find dozens of unread emails could be annoying for you. So sometimes  it really helps to show only the unread email messages. Here’s how.

After you logged into your Gmail account, move your mouse cursor over your inbox label and click the down arrow that appears. Select the “Unread First” in the drop-down menu. Voila- you are done. You will see a new, customized interface of inbox displaying a separate section for all your unread mails.  From there you can delete unwanted mails or mark all unread messages as read. You can also run advanced search operators to find all unreal messages in Gmail. For this, Enter “is:unread label:inbox” in the Gmail search bar and click the search button.

However, repeatedly searching mails from using search operators can get quite cumbersome, and therefore enabling “Unread First” is a good way to find unread emails easily.

In this workshop, we will guide you through syncing your chrome browser across all your PCs.

Setup Sync in Google Chrome

To use Google Sync in your Chrome browser, all you need is a Google account. Click on the bars like icon located to the right of the address, and choose  “Sign in to Chrome” .

Alternatively, choose Settings from the menu, and then click on “Sign in to Chrome” button on the settings tab.

When you signed into Chrome, a small pop-up window will show you synchronization options, giving you the ability to sync your bookmarks, add-ons, passwords and extensions. Once you setup the sync, all your chrome data will be attached to your Google account. There is even an optional “Advanced” Link which you can choose to encrypt your synced data.

To access this information in the new computer or handheld device, you just need to be signed into chrome with your Google account as before.

Turn Off Chrome Syncing

If you want to stop Chrome from syncing with your other browsers, open the Settings tab of your chrome browser, and click the Disconnect your Google Account.

Manage the Sync Information

To manage your sync, go to Google Dashboard, and scroll down to Chrome sync. You can edit data or cancel the syncing process by clicking “Stop the sync and delete the data from Google”. You will find this setting useful if you want to get a fresh start of the syncing process.

Conclusion

Most of us find ourselves working on at least two PCs; be it’s the combination of your home PC and the laptop which you take to work, or the combination of laptop and office desktop. With Chrome Sync, gone are the days where you would face problems of missing your favorite sites, bookmarks and various other settings that are stored only on one PC.

This app is a simple timer, but a brilliant one with Android’s Holo theme UI. You can control this app though neat little touches. There is a dial in the center of its interface, just tap and turn the dial to set the timer. One full turn is 60 sec, 60 min or 24 hrs., and you can choose these units of time by tapping on options available above and below the circular dial. There are a few quick setting buttons: you can Start, Pause or Terminate timer.

You can assign a task with timer, change the alarm sound, set the Auto dismiss tended timers, and you can change the theme of your app from the app’s main setting.

Bottom Line: The actual functionality of this app is kept quite minimal, which makes it exceptionally easy to use. Timers don’t get any simpler than this.

Once installed, Google Hindi Input adds a Globe icon and “a->?” button to your Android’s native keyboard. Tapping “a->?” button (*next to space button) will turn on/off transliteration mode. In transliteration mode, you type a Hindi word in English characters, and as you type, the app will automatically convert them to Hindi. There is even an ingenious auto-correct feature, which will predict words in Hindi and offer them as selectable choices in a field just above the keyboard. Just tap on a word to Enter it.

Pressing the “Globe button” brings a new Hindi keyboard with Devanagari alphabets and symbols to input Hindi words. Note that you can bring up extra symbols by pressing the paging button “1/2” “2/2 available on the left side of keyboard.

What do we think of it?

We simply love this app, and we think this app is a lovely surprise for all those Indian users who always want to communicate in “Desi language”. Also, we’re pretty sure that users might be expecting similar apps for regional languages such as Guajarati, Tamil, Teulgu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Adding information is a case of tapping and typing, and the user-interface is simple and intuitive. We, however, found that the interface is a little sluggish and does not offers a smooth experience. Additionally, we also think that this new android app should have feature for sorting the tasks as well as making tasks and notes offline. This app is in its infant stage, so we hope that few kinks I found will be ironed out soon.

What do we think of it ?

The service features are quite basic. It does not keeps your files’ version histories like we’ve seen in Dropbox, and sharing a file link on its PC application is not convenient- to share a file link you need to access its web interface, and the web interface is not particularly user-friendly, but its layout and labeling make sense. On the upside, its web interface and mobile apps has a streaming music player, which is really good at handling your music files.

Overall, we think it’s a good service for backing up data but its interface for web version could be more user-friendly and sharing options for its desktop application can be improved further.

Avast has obviously spent a lot of time and effort on refining its interface. Avast 8 new interface sports a clean, professional design. The new, tile-based metro interface matches quite nicely with the Windows 8 modern UI, and is designed to make the antivirus program usable on all kinds of PCs, from desktop to touchscreen tablets.

Menus on the navigation are bold and clearly visible, and the main page displays icons of the essential functions. All in all, the new design make it a pleasure to use.

Built-in Software Updater

There is a new built-in component in Avast 8 that runs a quick scan on all the programs on your computer, and tell you which ones can be upgraded. All your outdated program can be updated to the latest version, right in the interface, just by a single click. You can find this new component under security tab.

Browser Cleanup

Browser Cleanup is a standalone tool that is available under Tools> Brower cleanup. This tool is not automatically installed with Avast 8, and you need to download and install it manually by clicking the Download button. But one installed, this tool make it easy to get rid of unwanted toolbars from your browsers. Additionally, you can disable browser add-ons or extensions that you don’t require.

With this feature, you can connect the screen of a remote PC. Your monitor will show a view of the far-away screen, and you can easily transfer files between the connected PC.
